Flores Artscape

Flores Landscaping (AKA Flores Artscape) did a wonderful job transforming our patio area. They were courteous and professional, and they had great design ideas. They were true to their estimate and tried to finish as quickly as possible despite holidays and rain delays. The only points I would take off would be for communication. I had to call a few times to get the estimate and clarify design elements, but with all contractors, it is important to verify yourself that things are going to plan. We love our new fire-pit patio!

I and my husband had searched for a landscape company to do a small section in a corner of our back yard with decomposed granite. We had several companies give us a estimates ranging from 9,000 to 6,000 dollars for the same section. Who knew decomposed granite was so expensive. An acquaintance of ours who is in realty gave us two company's, I selected Flores Landscape to give us an estimate. Eric Willis showed on time and gave my husband an estimates that was way lower than the previous companies. They did the job in two days, and attached new irrigation hoses to our old irrigation for the large pots we have in the corner section. After six months the decompose granite looked great. This is want I for the front yard. We called Eric again and he showed up on time and we did a walk through of the front yard. I gave him my wish list, remove dying grass, plants and ground cover and replace with flagstones and DG. I wanted native plants (that I would buy) in the DG section, and sedum between the flagstones. He measured the yard, wrote down my wish list and with in less then a week we e-mail the proposal. We had been saving but the estimate was more than our budget, for two weeks we discussed the issue and finally e-mailed Eric letting him know we it was over our budget. Eric then suggested we met again and see how we could lower the cost. After a second walk through we managed to still get most of my wish by using pea gravel instead of DG in some areas. I can say enough of the workers. Everyone that worked on the front yard was professional, answered all my questions, and were very helpful. I highly recommend Flores Landscape and the staff. We had Flores Landscaping undertake a challenging project for us. Throughout the process, we found them to be professional, careful and courteous. In addition to the foreman, the owner, Rumaldo Flores, was always approachable and came by regularly to make sure that the job was on the track. When we needed to add/slightly revise the plan, which is common in these engagements, they consistently provided excellent advice, options and creative solutions to work with our esthetics and budget. The employees were reliable, friendly, hard-working, and kept us informed. We trusted them and treated them accordingly. Everything turned out even better than we had expected and Rumaldo went "above and beyond" to make sure we were happy. It was a totally positive experience for us!

They didn't return the call for two months after the quote. They lost the quote. Then they were 4x's more than every other landscaper. Really unorganized. They didn't even have a record they sent someone out. Never go with them. We moved on after we hadn't heard from them for a month. They should have done it right. They should have returned the quote in a timely manner. They wanted to charge us $24,000 for a small patio. It was ridiculous.

I was pleased with some aspects of the work they performed, but overall I was disappointed. They were unreliable and unhelpful when it came to correcting elements of the job that weren't up to scratch. They always professed a willingness to help on the phone, but didn't show up for follow up appointments to put parts of the job right. While the work wasn't horrible, it was definitely not completed properly or worth the price I paid. I wouldn't use them again.

Flores Artscape did a wonderful and quick job on my landscaping. They were very thoughtful in their approach and moved at an amazing speed. While it was priced on the high end of what I wanted to pay, it was worth it with how quickly and smoothly the process went. If there was any criticism that I would make, the contact was not consistent. Over communicating just a little bit more would have made it an even better experience. Considering my area is not an easy flat level, they did an excellent job.

When I called Flores Landscaping to schedule an appointment, the office person was polite and helpful. A few days later I met Freddy to walk through the site and review my plans. He was polite and seemed knowledgeable about the building retaining walls. He said he would send an estimate in few days. After a week passed, I hadn't received anything. When I called back, Freddy told me he had been sick, and would send the estimate soon. After a few more days, I called again to follow up, and Freddy said he didn't recall my name or the project. He said he was in the field and would call me back in 3 minutes. No call, no estimate, no work. As a potential client, I expect better. If you don't want the work or are too busy, that's fine, but show respect and communicate that to me. This was a bad experience.

They did a good job, cost a lot of money but not far from what we expected going in. They promised five days, the job ended up taking two weeks. The people who did the work were great, didn't mind having them around. Karl, who wrote the bid and supervised the work, was good, responsive on the phone and by email, kept things moving along. The proprietor came to the property once near the end to check on the work. In the end, we're happy with the work and will use them again. The wall created more space on that side of the house, looks very nice, created a space for planting, and obviated a scary landslide hazard. We've had compliments from neighbors and from other contractors who have come to the property since they finished.

It has been a super busy Summer and Fall, with lots of projects needing to be done at my house. I put a lot of effort into meeting different companies for each of my projects making sure to make the best choice for me. Many elements were involved such as budget, time communication and comfort. I chose Flores Landscaping for two/three of my projects. The first project they did for me was a new balcony. The second project was a new garden bed wall and walkway in front of my house. I did the projects at different times and in both cases they got to me quickly with a bid and a plan of action. The end results... I am SUPER pleased with. I felt comfortable having them work at my house. From the beginning of the projects to the end of the projects they kept in touch with me to make sure I was happy with the progress. Everyone at the company was really a joy to work with. I definitely recommend them and I plan to use them again.

We were in need of a completely new and water efficient yard and Flores Artscape did a terrific job! From design to completion they listened to what we wanted, offered good ideas, and saw to the details. Materials and workers were top-notch. Each worker (and there were many) was polite and thorough. A few times there was minor miscommunication but they quickly and competently made the needed corrections. Although the entire yard was affected by the work, they made every effort to minimize interference with our lives and to keep the work area as clean as possible. The job took a bit longer than anticipated but better than our prior experiences with contractors. Mr. Flores himself is particularly eager to make sure the customer is satisfied -- and we certainly were. We highly recommend them.

I called Flores Artscape to trim hedges and give me a couple estimates on some landscaping projects that I have. There was a miscommunication and they only scheduled the consolation and not the trimming. The trimming was scheduled two weeks in advance and had to be coordinated with my neighbor so they could get on their property, so once I learned that they were unable to do it, it was a bit of a let down. They noticed my disappointment and worked really hard to get some guys out to do the trimming that day. Within a couple hours, they were able to trim the hedges, so I was very happy. But the happiness ended there, and looking back, I wish they were never able to reschedule. They completely hacked up my hedges and I've lost a lot of the privacy that I once had. I used to have an entire wall of green, and now not only can I see parts of my neighbors house, but I can also see the wall!! I'm hoping the hedges will grow back in to give more privacy but I don't think they will ever be the same, and I fear that they will never fill in at the base which is where I see the wall. I thought they understood that I just wanted a trim, but in the end, they completely changed the look of the hedges without explaining what they were about to do. It's been almost a week and I have not heard back from them regarding the other projects, but that's okay because I will never use their services again.

We hired Flores to clean up and plant trees and agave plants on our front curb strip, and to clean up our side yard area in preparation for a larger landscaping project. Everything went great, Juan Carlos met with us at our property two times before we decided on the final details of the project. They showed up a day early to do the work which took two full days. Paulino and his crew did a great job making our front curb strip look nice, starting from the wild patch of weeds that it was. They cleaned up all the weeds around our very unfinished and overgrown yard. Trimmed all the dead branches from our olive tree and banana tree and left our property looking great.

The estimator showed up Monday morning on time, however the actual gardener who would be doing the work did not show up by the time I left for work. Not a positive sign, however, Juan was so professional and personable that I agreed it would be ok for him to relay what plants I would and would not want trimmed on a routine basis. This has been a consistent issue with past gardeners - they have agreed to let certain plants grow, only to disregard that request and take an automatic hedger to them once the honeymoon period has passed. My residence ends up looking like an apartment building, contrary to what had been agreed upon. When I came home later that day, I was pleased to see Flores Artscape had done the work requested, which included removing old growth the previous gardener hadn't bothered to remove for months, and took care of the build up of leaves in my guest house yard as well. I am very happy with their first visit and am very hopeful their work will remain top notch!

I was unhappy with their service at first but Rumaldo and Raul turned out to be very helpful. At first they didn't show up on time and didn't have the grass or flowers that they were going to plant. The designer, Katy had no clue what was going on. She did not communicate to the workers what needed to be done. I called to complain and Rumaldo and Raul came right away and took care of everything. They came back and fixed the lawn since weeds grew and took over the St. Augustine grass they had planted. Also came back to replace sprinkler control since they removed one of the controls and didn't replace it. Finally, planted new flowers since the ones they planted died within a month. They were prompt and assisted in solving the problems.

They have a major communication issues. I called to get someone to come out to give me an estimate to remove dirt on our backyard. A guy asked to to send photos of the job which will get me the estimate with no need for someone to come out. After seeing my photos, they changed their mind to come out to take a look. Just to schedule an estimator to come out, we exchanged 4-5 phone calls, texts, and emails because they kept asking me for my email address. I emailed and texted the info, but the guy kept calling to get the same info over and over. I don't know how big their operation is, but they had a guy who handled my call sort of like a job manager, a gal who schedules the time they handed me over to to set the time, an estimator, etc.. pretty convoluted process. The guy comes out, a pretty nice guy, then I get another several calls asking for my email again so they can send the estimate even though I had given them several times through several sources, email, text, over the phone, etc... I send email and text again, finally receive the estimate. The estimate is ridiculously high, more than double/trimple compared to other 3 estimates I got. I reply back to their estimate email that I am going with someone else who is a lot cheaper. I get a phone message a few days later asking if I had any questions to their bid. I leave a phone message explaining I am going with someone else, expecting that will do. Guess what, I got another email asking today if I had any questions from their bid. I replied back again that I am going with someone else because their bid is too high. I want them to stop calling me!!!!

Well, I'll start with the positive and go from there. In initial meetings/correspondence with Flores (Rumaldo specifically) we were quite happy. The meeting was on time and the proposal sent felt fair. We spent time picking out flowers at the nursery and came up with a plan we were all happy with. The team who worked on the property did a nice job and the first work completed seemed to go well. We were in a good groove. However things seemed to go south from there. After the initial work was done, we still had quite a bit of things which needed to be completed. It took days (and sometimes a week) to get any response back from the team. We tried email, phone and texting and no response. Finally my wife tried blocking her phone # and that time someone answered. Hmm. Maybe just a random coincidence. My wife (very directly) explained that we were unhappy and that someone needed to come out and walk through the property with us to go through each item and see what remained to be done. We met with Rumaldo and he assured us that everything would be taken care of. Over a series of weeks we did get more work done, but that was after much back/forth with Flores. At times we'd set an appointment, and no one showed up (causing me to be late for work). Not really acceptable. More failed communication and finally got folks to come out and do a few more things. When I say "a few more things" I mean finish the work they were contracted to do. Not additional work! To try and make us happy they planted an extra row of flowers in the back. A nice gesture, but a row of low priced flowers (1/2 of which died two weeks later) doesn't compensate for the lack of communication and follow through. Throughout the process I was clear that I wanted to be communicated with. For example I explained that before you install lights, I'd like to have the chance to a) pick them out or b) review a few options. Next thing I know I come home and see several lights already installed in our lawn. We had not approved them and didn't like them. They were the wrong style and color. Had someone asked us prior, we could have saved time and energy. I then found lights we liked and texted photos to make sure we got what we wanted. Again, simple communication could have saved so much effort. And that is really the essence of the issue. Communication. At no time did any representative from the company (i.e. Rumaldo) call to ask how things were going, or come check on the work. Each time it was at our insistence that things were not completed properly. We made our final payment with the thought that things would be completed. That was my mistake. Never should have done that. I brought up the idea of partial refund, but that was ignored. I have a string of emails in which we tried to communicate the challenges. For example, the sprinklers weren't installed/aimed properly, so areas of the grass died because they weren't getting enough water. I tried to adjust, but it was beyond the scope of my ability and they needed to be changed (which eventually they were). And still grass is dying and water is wasted. Also, about 8 plants have died. Yes, partial responsibility is on me, the owner, to water plants. But, we paid a lot of money for a new automated sprinkler system and that system was designed and installed to specifically deliver the right amount of water for each plant. So while I tried to water and fix things, this was a design/installation issue. The last time we had someone out to the house (mid July) the gentleman did some work and noted all the plants that had died. He said those would be replaced. I waited patiently for a followup from Flores. Nothing. And quite frankly I've given up. We have large brown patches in our lawn. Dead plants. And sadly a frustrated taste in our mouth. When we started this process, our gardener offered to do the work for a much lower price. We decided to hire a larger company to handle it with the thought that it would be better organized, better managed and better quality. Now, six months after our initial meeting we are paying our weekly gardener extra money to redo the sprinkler work and eventually replace plants. Hate to spend extra money, but don't have the time and energy to continually beg a company to stand by their work.

In the end we decided to hold off on doing this work due to cost, but Juan Carlos and the folks at Flores were responsive, and helpful. Juan Carlos was punctual on the day of our meeting, listened to what we were looking to do, offerred some suggestions in places where we really weren't sure how to proceed. We were sent a proposal for the work the next day and since it was more than we were hoping to spend I asked whether we could talk further about some other routes we could take (not removing all the DG, doing irrigation for the lawn and the trees but not the garden, etc) and Juan Carlos was helpful in that regard as well. At the end of the day my wife and decided we could live with things as they were for a while and wait till we felt more comfortable spending the money. That said, when/if we do decide to tackle the backyard, we'd certainly consider calling Flores again.

All staff were very responsive to all my requests. Work was done as specified, with skill and with attention to detail. My property was treated with respect, with the workers being careful not to break anything and to replace things in their proper places. Clean-up was excellent. The price was reasonable, especially considering the amount of work to be done. There were four workers for two full days. Each worked very hard and non-stop. It was a pleasure doing business with Flores Landscaping and I would use them again.

These guys were great. The quote was quick and professional. They worked with me on the pricing and they came in at about half of my highest quote received. Half! I was a pain in the neck about scheduling the starting date due to a delay in receiving my plants from the east coast and they were extremely accommodating. Things were completed in three days and the whole job was done very cleanly. They also handled some changes in the plans along the way. Very impressive. Great job overall. I'm so happy, I might even have them become my regular gardener (and I like my regular gardener).

UPDATE: After seeing my review, the owner came out directly to do an estimate, which is highly appreciated. Its great to see small business owners try to make things right when things go wrong. Let me start off by saying that everyone at the office that I spoke to was friendly, organized, and responsive. I had setup an appointment to have someone come out to give an estimate. He arrived, took measurements, and said he'd get back to me with the estimate. A whole week and a half goes by, and he had never called me back or emailed me. I had to call back to follow up, wondering what had happened. Eddie at the office was great at trying to track down where their guy made a mistake. Unfortunately at this point I figured it was best to just not proceed. If I couldn't get an estimate without having to prod, I couldn't be sure the work would get done without an uphill battle. Summary: Would have liked to have used them, considering they're so close to my house, unfortunately their guy Irvin completely forgot about me.

This was a really good experience for us. We found everyone we worked with at Flores to be completely honest and highly professional. The man who oversaw the actual work on our yard, Paulino, was absolutely the best. His guys got a big job done in, basically, two days. We'll work with them in the future on projects.

Flores Landscaping is the best company that I have ever worked with on any house. I will start with our project manager, Eric. He was extremely professional and made sure that everything was done precisely and to our specifications. He met with us late at night after our work was done, and answered emails at midnight! He is a nice guy and very intelligent as well. The men who worked on the house were all great and didn't smoke or do anything else that I have seen other workers do. The owner also came out (I can't remember the spelling of his name) and was very gracious. The landscaping was beautifully done. Both my picky wife and mother in law were impressed, and said that whatever we paid was worth it. The concrete piers had to be very precise because they had to line up toward the North Star for astronomy. Due to factors out of their control, the first attempt was off (metal in the concrete threw off the compass). They replaced both piers, no questions asked, and now things are precisely where they should be. Everything was drawn out and done to perfection. If I had an outdoor structure, I would not hesitate to use them. This company may not be the cheapest option, but I think they are the best.
