Our remodel went smoothly from start to finish. Nick's estimate was clear and detailed. There were no hidden costs and everything was broken down into segments so you could see exactly what you were paying for. I have never seen a clearer or more detailed estimate from anyone who has worked at my house. The remodel was brought in at exactly the estimated cost and time. Every detail was enumerated in the original estimate and there were no surprises. The crew was very professional and knew their crafts. I was nervous about the project and they certainly inspired confidence. Nick was very attentive to our wants and needs. He showed up everyday to check on the progress of the remodel. He always responded to e-mails and phone calls promptly. From start to finish working with Nick and his crew was easy. Most importantly we were able to work with Nick and his crew to achieve exactly what we wanted without any compromise. I would definately call Eye4Design for any future projects at my home.
Description of Work: Totally remodeled the kitchen. It was taken down to the studs. We had the kitchen rewired and new circuit breakers put in. The walls were redone in drywall. The floor was tiled and new cabinets installed. A granite counter top was added with a tile backsplash. New lighting was added throughout. The kitchen was painted. During the cabinet installation several problems arose fitting our semi-custom cabinets into the exisitng space. The carpenter custom constructed extra pieces to make sure everything fit perfectly and seamlessly. Nick's crew of craftsmen was up to handling any of the complications that come with remodeling an older house.

Through out the project Nick (the contractor) stayed in touch with me and the most important part was that he always got back to me immediately. Never a hassle, never. I was lucky and only ran into one bad contractor through my project, but these guys were fantastic and truth be told, I don't give compliments easily. They've earned it. Thank you Nick, Mike, Bob and the rest of your capable crew. I will send you pictures of the finished project.
Description of Work: I am not one for writing reviews because I feel they are subjective to every personality and the particulars of each job. However, since it was the reviews on this site that helped me get in contact with this particular contractor, it would only be fair that I do my part and share my experience with you. My initial contact with this group was through the framer "Mike" and I instantly felt comfortable with his skills based on his detailed examination of the plans as well the ultimate look we were after. I did not even wait to see other bids or vendors and proceeded to hire them. Now to be perfectly honest their bid was more than I had anticipated paying for this portion of the job, but since I was comfortable enough with Mike's skills I went forward. Nick the contractor called me the same day and we discussed the job and I expressed my strong desire to start the next morning since I could not proceed with other aspects until this was completed. He communicated with me until well after 11:00 pm that night and Mike was on the job the next morning, just as I had requested. In my opinion the best thing about Mike aside from his skills was his interest in the final look of the job vs. just completing his portion. This guy is insightful and thorough. His assistant was hard working and very pleasant as well. As in any job there were challenges, but nothing they couldn't handle or work around. This job was inspected by the city at every stage and it passed every time. Mike even told me when his job was done, to call him personally if there were any issues and he would come out and take care of it (now how often do we hear that). Bob the electrician (who reminds me of Abe Lincoln) was also very pleasant and knowledgeable. He showed up and completed his portion and came back over and over to address various stages of the job. The plumber equally as good.

We have a small room right in the middle of our house that had crumbling walls. We have had many look and say it is a nasty big job to replace the, but Nick came and gave us an estimate, which was well within our expectations. He convinced us to use veneer board and plaster, instead of regular dry wall, mud and tape. This was a great idea for our old house. We scheduled a time to do the work, and stayed in touch via email. On the first day of the job, he and his crew showed up on time. They demolished the walls and ceiling and had everything hauled away before we even got back to look at it. They were on the job every day until it was finished. They were wonderful: cheerful, dog-friendly, professional, neat, left things in tidy order at the end of each day's work. Each step was done in a timely manner, and each step was done with care, and the finished product was everything I had hoped for. I hope to be able to hire this crew again for the rest of the rooms in this house!
Description of Work: Nick Reynolds and his crew delivered! We needed new walls on our central room, and I had pictured using standard drywall, mud, tape, etc. But when Nick came to do the estimate, he mentioned a type of wall board and plaster we were not familiar with, claiming it to be less of a mess, less sanding, and a better product overall. He was right! Our room is beautiful, and the plaster leaves a smooth finish with no seams, and much less dust due to very little sanding. The painters came in after and took such care to get it really right. I couldn't ask for a better job!

A plumber, called to unclog a clogged bathtub drain, reported that a toilet leak beneath our bathroom tiles, had rotted the underfloor to an extent that neither the floor nor the bathtub were adequately supported and had become a safety hazard. It appeared that both the tile floor and wood underfloor would have to be removed and reconstructed at a cost which could run as high as a few thousand dollars. We phoned Nick Reynolds of Eye 4 Design, who had worked for us previously, and whose competence and integrity we trusted completely, and requested that he assess what needed to be done. Nick assessed the damage and said he would have his "framer" come out to corroborate his opinion that it would not be necessary to totally remove and reconstruct the bathroom underfloor. Once this was done, the work was undertakened and completed as described above.
Description of Work: In order to support our bathroom floor and bathtub, because extensive rotting of the underfloor had occurred due to a toilet leak beneath bathroom floor tiles, new joists and blocks were installed, and the weight of the floor and tub are now sufficiently supported.

They are terrific. They stay on schedule, do what they say they are going to do and are very organized. They are very professional, we were very comfortable with them. We can just give them a key and tell them to go for it. The place where they were doing the work was vacant and we had no problem with them working while we weren't there. They aren't the cheapest, but they do quality work. They were good and they also finish concrete floors.

The guy was fabulous. He was terrific and he didn't shift the information so he would get a job out of it. I would call him and trust him with a bid in the future.
Description of Work: I had a consultation with Eye 4 Design I had a wall in my bathroom and I wanted to know how big a problem it was and if it was compromised or needed to be redone.
Nick Reynolds and his team worked on renovating our bathrooms. They did demolition, plumbing, electrical, LOTS of tile work, and finish carpentry. Nick has a very easy communication style. He was always responsive to my questions ? email and texting worked great! The contracts were clear and easy to understand. Quotes were detailed, thorough, and very fair. All of his team members (except for one plumber) were very punctual; if they said they would be there at 7am, they were there at 7am. If they were going to be a little late, even 10 minutes, they called me before the time they were suppose to arrive to tell me. All of the work was top notch and completed as estimated. We had picked out our own tile and the tiles were handmade, so they were not perfectly square nor were the thicknesses consistent. It was a challenge for them to get the lines straight and the surfaces even, but they worked hard and made the effort to cut and fit to make sure it worked visually. The bathrooms look great. In fact, as they worked and we saw what a good job they were doing, I asked for quotes and got them to work on a couple additional projects for me, such as wiring the carport. They were all very professional and they all showed a great deal of respect to our house ? everything in it and around it. They always cleaned up after themselves everyday, too. We have already recommended them to 3 different friends, and I highly recommend Nick and his team (Mike, Jacob, and Bob) for you too!
Description of Work: Nick and his team renovated two of our bathrooms, replacing the tile, lights, fans, tub, sinks, shower stall, toilet and floor. The bathrooms had been built by a guy with two left hands over a couple weekends and there was some water damage underneath that needed to be replaced as well. The demolition was done quickly and efficiently. It was amazing to come home and find the room cleaned to the studs with no mess! They reinforced and leveled the floor, set the tile, salvaged the sinks, installed the new fixtures, and really made everything seem effortless. The master bath and vanity is exactly as we hoped and the tiny cramped 1.5 bath is now comfortable and accessible to adults.

At first I asked if he did small jobs and said it depends....???? I explained what I wanted done, then he asked me where I lived. He then said he doesn't travel that far!!!!!!!!..This guy is 13.9 miles from his door to mine. Is the economy that good and this guy is so busy that he plays the "We don't go that far"card? Unless you live within 13.9 miles from him, don't bother calling

This seems a little unfair. It is 14 miles, but that trip home to the east can be an hour or more in traffic. We are a relatively small company. I know our work load very well. If the work load is at a certain level it would be a poor decision to take work, or even an estimate, that far away. By drawing boundaries based on work load, I can properly complete the projects we are currently working on and give those customers the service they deserve. I am sorry this member was angered by my response. But I would rather have her be angry because I won't drive to Sherman Oaks than angry because I cannot complete her project in a timely, professional manner.

Nick and everyone that came to my home to perform work were always on time. I felt very comfortable leaving a key for them as I was usually at work when they came. Everyone was polite and they always left the the work area clean at the end of each day. The work was completed on time and the only change in the quote was due to a change in the flooring material made by me.
Description of Work: Converted a regular door to a pocket door. Moved added some electrical locations so they would not interfere with pocket door, changed lighting in closet, moved and changed electrical for satelite TV and room lights. Installed new hardwood floors and trimed doors for proper clearance.
We were very pleased with all of the work. What sets Eye4?s owner, Nick, apart from most contractors out there, is that he is very customer-oriented. He is very approachable, easy to communicate with, responsive to any questions/concerns that might arise, and very patient with answering all my questions. He also demonstrated considerable patience in interfacing with other contractors we hired (such as for the Corian and the flooring). He will give suggestions, but doesn?t get offended if you decide to make a different choice. Another trait that stands out with Nick is his integrity. He is honest, up front and plays it straight. When a bump in the road arises ? as they typically do in contracting work ? he makes things right. His bids are clear and competitive, and he gave an accurate estimate of the length of the job. We were comfortable with his workers in the home and communicating with them, and they did a good job of cleaning up each day. Nick is one of those rare quality folks, and we would definitely hire him again should the need arise.
Description of Work: I used this company for three bathroom jobs, plus two handyman jobs. The first bathroom job was at my mom’s house, while all other jobs were at my house. The first bathroom job was a shower stall at my mom’s house, which they demo’d, did the rough-in for the new shower, installed new shower fixtures/plumbing, installed a bathroom fan/electrical switches, installed grab bars, installed a GFCI outlet, and painted the bathroom and hallway. (A separate Corian-certified contractor installed the Corian portion of the shower.) The second bathroom job involved demo’ing a shower/tub and replacing it with just a shower. While the Corian/Livingstone work was done by a specialized contractor, Eye4 did the rough-in, installed new shower fixtures/plumbing and grab bars, replaced the bathroom fan, installed a new toilet, and repainted the bathroom. The third bathroom job was a complete remodel. Originally, we had a shower and a hot tub in the bathroom. The room was gutted, drywall installed, and a shower/tub with pony wall and grab bars was installed, along with a ceiling-installed shower curtain ring over the tub, pedestal sink, heavy medicine cabinet, toilet, towel bars, and window blinds. In addition, the bathroom fan was replaced, an additional electrical outlet installed, and the room painted. We purchased the plumbing/fixtures, tub, toilets, sink, medicine cabinet, towel bars, grab bars, shower curtain ring, window blinds, and Corian work ourselves. The first handyman job was to repair the base cabinet floor under the kitchen sink, which had become severely warped from water damage. The second handyman job was to restructure the kitchen cabinetry that houses the microwave and wall oven, when we had to replace the microwave and wall oven. A shelf had to be built within the existing cabinet.

Nick came out to see our house, onto which we wanted to put a 400 sq ft addition. He took a copy of the plans, asked a few questions, looked around the house...and then we never heard from him again. If our job was too small, or he was too busy, that's perfectly fine, but some kind of follow-up would have been professional.

I am sorry this potential customer seems dissatisfied. I spent over an hour looking at the house and the plans and talking to the owner. After completing an itemized bid I called a few times and left messages. Perhaps I had the contact information wrong, I did have trouble contacting them the day of the estimate. A phone call to me would have solved any problems. We are a very customer friendly company and answer all calls and emails promptly. I sure that all of our other reports show this to be the case.

We were not able to get into the house until escrow closed, so Nick came to appraise the situation at the beginning of August. We had all the work permitted and he got the permits submitted within a week and started the demolition right away. We had a lot of the wall-breaking and sanding/refinishing done before we moved in at the end of August. After we moved in the guys were in the house most every day for the next couple of months and it was hectic getting all this work done while we lived there. I believe that Eye4 made the experience as comfortable as possible for us, however, as the men were polite and friendly throughout and tried to clean up after themselves as much as possible while in mid-job. Hats off to the gentlemen: Nick, Mike, Art-paint, Evan, Gareth, Bill, Bob, Jacob, Jim, Donald, Art-floor, Sam). Nick kept us apprised of any difficulties that arose as an old house holds many surprises and every time we made changes to the job, he would send an updated itemized quote, that detailed additions and subtractions. Payments were based on specific milestones throughout the job; the downpayment was only $1000, followed by payment for permits and 7 progress payments. The original quote underestimated final cost by only $275 (out of $48,000, without the work I added mid-job). Naturally everything did not get finished as first predicted, but it was a large job with a lot of components, slowdowns based on ordering and quirks of past remodels, etc. All-in-all it took them 3 months to complete the above listed work (and I'm sure I forgot some things) and the work is of the highest quality. Someone may be able to do it faster, but not better. Our master bathroom is a showpiece, with gorgeous tile-work and a masterful use of the space. I started calling Nick my design guru. Whenever something went wrong, and it always will, they always corrected it without complaint and usually without my ever needing to mention it. They have a lot of pride in their work. I will definitely use them again and already have one more bathroom and a garage remodel scheduled to start next year. And in the future, who knows?
Description of Work: We recently purchased a 1903 Craftsman-style home and are in the process of renovation and restoration. After interviewing several general contractors, we hired Eye4 as we were very impressed by Nick's (owner) good design solutions during the walk-through and his prompt delivery of an itemized estimate. We had a wide range of work done: design work, tearing two rooms down to the studs,1 complete and 2 partial bathroom remodels, hardwood floor refinishing (2000 sq ft of 100-yr-old flooring), HVAC, built-in cabinets in closet and kitchen, refinishing and re-tiling a fireplace, painting most of the house, hanging 5 ceiling fans and a chandelier (over a 20ft stairwell entry). They also did quite a lot of handyman tasks for us at very reasonable prices (doorbell installation, mailbox hanging, change doorknobs).

Nick was very quick to respond to our initial inquiry. He was very helpful in answering our questions and giving us advice about different ways to accomplish the job. He gave us a bid that seemed very fair, and we scheduled the work immediately. The person who actually did the tile work (Bill) was extremely meticulous and did a very professional job. Watching him work, you could see how tedious it could be to really get everything perfect, as well as to deal with the inevitable unforeseen problems like light switches in the wrong place and walls way out of square. He handled everything patiently and with a real artist's eye. The floor was done after the backsplash, and again the work was done in the most professional way. As happens with most projects, this one took a few days longer than anticipated and was not finished by the Friday before the Labor Day weekend. Leaving it unfinished would have left us without appliances over the holiday weekend (they had to be removed to install the floor), so Nick and a large crew came on Saturday of the holiday weekend and worked from 7 am until about 4 in order to finish. They did so with no extra charge.

The project went extremely well. Nick Reynolds, owner/general contractor, sealed off the kitchen opening so that dust and debris would not affect the rest of the house. Teardown was efficient, done in one day, with everything hauled away and cleaned up by the end of the day. Nick kept me informed of what would take place each day. As a general contractor, he effectively orchestrated each part of the remodel--cabinet installation, electrical, plumbing, painting, countertops, so that progress was visible daily. Early on, I could see that Nick had very high standards for the workmanship. He monitored the quality of the work and redid anything that didn't meet his standards. All of his workers and subcontractors were friendly, courteous, and informative. Nick took care of any problems that arose by discussing the problem to seek the best solutions. One of the subcontractors scratched my hardwood floor (5" scratch) when moving an appliance stored in the living room, and Nick had one of his crew sand, seal, and paint to remove all signs of the scratch. I inspected each completed part and made note of any questions I had or touchups needs. Each was addressed and checked off. At the end of the process, I have a beautiful, new kitchen, one that is much more functional and easy to work in. I will upload photos later (camera battery needs recharging)
Description of Work: Remodeled entire kitchen, except for the floors. Price included cabinet and counter tear down, installation of Schuler cabinets, Caesarstone countertops, sink, dishwasher, disposal, tile backsplash (subway tile w/glass mosaic), canned ceiling lights w/dimmers, undercounter lighting, new door, screen door, wall/ceiling paint, door and trim paint, door staining/varnishing. Contract price included all labor and materials, except for large items I purchased separately. Materials furnished included light fixtures, wiring, plumbing parts, electrical wiring for disposal and dishwasher, paints, stains, tile (receipts, based on my selected tile costs) and other materials. I purchased separately all cabinets (from Lowes), stainless steel sink, faucet, disposal, dishwasher, door, and screen door, locks, I used my existing stove, hood, and refrigerator. In addition, I had a new "quiet" bathroom fan installed and new electrical wiring for my garage door. And a Caesarstone sill that covered the width and depth of a garden window facing the sink.

The impetus behind this bathroom remodel was a leaky shower pipe that forced me to remove a bunch of tile from the shower, leaving me with a gaping hole covered by a plastic sheet. I had two choices - either I search high and low to find the same hideous tile from the 60's, or I tear out everything and start from scratch since the ugly tile covered almost every surface in the bathroom, from the vanity to the floor to the shower. This is where Nick came in. I called him to come look at the bathroom and he gave me several options, price ranges, and time frames, all depending on how much work I wanted to be done. He emailed me an itemized estimate in the next day or two, and feeling that the estimate was fair, I decided to go with Nick and do a total remodel of the bathroom. Nick was really great about keeping to the set timeframe (about a month) even when the plumbing hit a snag (an issue unrelated to the bathroom remodel). All of his guys were friendly, hard-working, and always showed up at the time they said they would. I appreciated that his workers would ask me about certain details before they went ahead and did something. And Nick as well had a keen sense of the details and on several occasions helped me solve some design questions. He definitely brought ideas to the table that I never would have thought of, like putting a slab of caesar-stone on the sink ledge, or building a shelf above the end of the bathtub. Now that the bathroom is all finished and looks amazing, it's those details that really stand out and give the bathroom its character. It was also very cool that Nick had a knowledge of Craftsman era bathrooms, which fits the style of the house. And with any additional issue that came up after the estimate, he would always give me the price and the option to say yes or no. Great communication and just a really great attitude all around.
Description of Work: Nick and his crew redid the bathroom from floor to ceiling. Everything except the bathtub was torn out. New subfloor. New walls. New plumbing for the sink. New vent installation. New floor and shower tiles. Nick built a shelf in the shower which came out great. Also, a ledge behind the sink was built. New paint and bathroom hardware installation. Also there were some extraneous plumbing issues connected to a different bathroom which required replacement of an old cast iron pipe and his guys took care of that as well.

Nick was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. He understood just what was required and described just what we could expect. Art, who did the work, did a clean and thorough job with good attention to detail. The price we were charged was based on the actual time spent on the job and came in on the low end of the initial estimate Nick gave us. We would not hesitate to use Eye 4 Design for a bigger job.
Description of Work: Finished and sealed a new, wood, exterior door.
