Description of Work: I had a house job to fix a leaking retaining wall for my garage. I found Egald through Angie's li st and another company through a reference. Efrain was very responsive to my initial inquiry, he showed up on time for the estimate appointment, and he provided a timely estimate. I was very impressed and assured that he would do a good job. However, the other business was equally highly qualified. Both estimates were similar and the description of the work was the same. The cost of the job was about $5300. I made a difficult decision to go with the other company. I would have been equally happy with Egald. I notified him of my decision and he replied in a very professional way. I wish his business much success and hope that other Angie's list members will consider Egald Construction.

Efrain and his guys are wonderful. Hard-working, fair priced, smart, and great positive attitude. These guys are the best. We had them fix a 6 foot retaining wall that was cracking, build a set of stairs, and completely re-do our patio. They were on schedule and the price was just as quoted. We were so happy with last year's work that they're back now re-doing our front patio!

While the job took a while (to be expected), the price was extremely competative ... had quotes ranging from $15K to $30K ( cinder block wall was $30K which would have been totally ugly). Efrain built a beautiful garden wall terrace, that is super strong (this wall is not going to move) ... very happy. It's been a few months since the job and everything is still looking great ... no shift of ties or drop in backfill, etc. Oh, and the orginal concrete garden wall that was there before needed to be carried up the hill and removed first (i.e., few thousand pounds of broken concrete!).
Description of Work: Built two 30ft long railroad tie retaining walls on hillside property in South Pasadena. Incl metal post every 5ft with concrete pylon support, incl steel supports through railroad ties, gutter drains within wall to drain excessive water, back fill, and relaying of brick patio.

Called Egald and spoke to owner Efrain Galdamez. He came out and was very helpful and made what turned out to be a critical suggestion regarding the steps abutting the walkway. Efrain wanted to create a 24and quot; landing so that people did not trip as they went up the steps. The landing would only have a riser of 5and quot;. At first I disagreed with him, however, after consulting a contractor friend, he concurred with Efrain. Long and short of it, he knows his stuff. I would definitely recommend him. Several weeks after the job was complete, I saw him doing a job two doors down at a neighbors. I suspect the neighbor saw the work he had done for me.

The Owner Efrain Galdamez, is a very personable guy, he came in, looked over the project and was able to determine, the best design for my space. Efrain calculated an estimate that was under the other contractors I called. Then the Egald team came in on the date and time promised. Removed and disposed of all the existing concrete, set the elevations. On the second day, they set up the forms and rebar. On the third day, they poured the concrete and leveled and smoothed it out. I'm now waiting for it to dry, as of the typing of this report. However, I feel confidant that the finished job will be prefect. Cement dried on Saturday, Efrain came back removed the remaining forms and cleaned up the area. GREAT JOB!!

I called 4 companies for bids. Egald Construction showed up on time as promised. Unlike some companies who planned to bid only what I outlined, Efrain (the owner) first assessed the space and asked me what I was trying to do. Based on that, he provided me with a series of additional ideas and concepts. Each one was innovative and based on his previous experience. We discusse the pros and cons of what I had in mind and offered alternative solutions. What struck me was that Efrain was very knowledgeable about his trade and unlike some companies who looked, took some measurements and said they would get back to me, Efrain calculated everything on the spot. He knew his material and labor costs and detailed everything out for me, even breaking out additions to the original scope of work in a line by line format as options to add (as per my request.) He looked at ways for me to save money. While he followed up with an electronic copy (emailed to me with the same detail typed out,) I had an idea of cost and what I was looking it before he left. Efrain and the workers were always on time, courteous and left everything clean and tidy. I had an excellent rapport with Efrain and I made several additions along the way (which I paid for,) as I could see they were doing such a good job. In short, Efrain and his crew exceeded my expectations. I will use him for future jobs and would recommend him to others without hesitation. I thought Efrain was honest, the crew was hardworking and the work to be of an excellent value.

Everything was great until they actually commenced the work, then it turned into a disaster. Efrain Galdamez - the company owner - showed up on time, talked a good game, was not the least expensive but was close, and seemed very professional. After considering several quotes, I gave him the job. Paid a 20% deposit and amde all the agreed upon payments on time as requested. The day they poured the concrete, the finish was very disappointing. They did a "brush finish" but it wasn't even close to uniform and the brush strokes were running in different directions (1/2 were north to south, the other 1/2 were east to west!). The level work was poorly done and there were low points. Within a few days of the concrete drying, large irregular shaped sections discolored. (See photo.) Efrain said it would go away in time, so I gave it a few months, but it didn't. Then he said he'd redo the job, but kept putting it off. Then he asked if he could try putting a cap and a sealer on it which I told him he could, but only if it didn't look like paint, only if it was professionally done, and only if it were up to me whether the finished job was acceptable. He promised that if I wasn't happy with the cap, he'd redo the entire job immediately. Well, it looked even worse then the original job. The finish is ridiculously uneven, and the cap has already discolored and its started cracking. They even got some of the cap material on my freshly pained house and side wall. Efrain acknowledged that the cap was not satisfactory, and told me that he didn't add the sealer because he knew the job was unsatisfactory and he didn't want to waste the money on the sealer knowing he was going to have to redo the whole job. He then agreed he would redo the entire job, but wanted a month to finish the job he was already working on which I agreed to. Then, after he kept putting it off and dragging it out for several more months, he announced that he wouldn't redo the work and that I'd have to sue him. It’s going to cost more than twice what I paid him to remove, replace and repair his crappy work. I have made a claim against Efrain’s contractor’s license and have commenced litigation against his company. Needless to say, I do not recommend this provider.

We had to have our main sewerline replaced and the plumber had to cut through the front slab outside of our house and the concrete slab floor inside of the front room of our house. The concrete person my neighbor recommended flaked out at the last minute, so I needed to find someone on short notice. We had scheduled the project for a weekend with the concrete being done the following Monday.I called Efrain the Friday before and he said he could come the following Tuesday, which worked for me. He took the time to speak with me about the job at length, so we both had a good idea as to what it entailed. Efrain and his helper arrived on time and we discussed a few small repairs in addition to the main job we had originally discussed. He gave me a fair price and started work. He completed all of the work in one day. He compacted the base dirt thoroughly and installed rebar reinforcement to both the outdoor slab and the indoor concrete floor. He poured the concrete with a smooth surface on the indoor floor. On the outside slab, he poured the concrete with a textured surface and replaced about a dozen decorative bricks (to match the rest of the slab). Being that this was in the front of our house, it was important for it to look good. He also reattached about a half a dozen decorative bricks (including matching the grout) to the front wall of our house. He also patched two other small areas of concrete. All of the work was done very well and looks great. I am very happy with the results and I have had several people compliment the work that was done. Efrain is friendly and has a great attitude. I would use him again and recommend him highly.

This was a very pleasant experience. Egald Construction arrived everyday on time and cleaned up very well each day before leaving. Owner, Efrain Galdamez, worked tirelessly with his helper Marco, demolishing and rebuilding my front porch surround. They chipped old mortar away from the bricks they removed and hauled about five loads to my backyard for a future job. The remaining broken bricks and debris were hauled away. They built four walls using cinder blocks, rebar and cement. Afterwards, they built two brick columns around my existing concrete columns. This was especially challenging because the previous construction company built the structural columns unevenly in height (3' off) and in width (no two sides had the same dimensions). Efrain was very meticulous with his measurements. He brought a leveler that the surveyors use to make sure he would get both brick columns as even as possible (could not do much with the 3" height difference because the columns are structural supports). Many bricks had to be trimmed in numerous sizes to fit. This took more time than anticipated. Finally, the concrete caps were framed, concrete poured, and the walls were stuccoed. There are hairline cracks throughout the walls, but Efrain said this was normal. I'm a little baffled about cracks in new concrete/stuccoed walls but what do I know? When I paint, hopefully the cracks will be less noticeable. All in all, Efrain is one of only two contractors that I've had the pleasure to work with in the 22 years that I've owned my home. He really cares about his customers and takes tremendous pride in his work. I can't wait to call back Egald Concrete Construction for my next project! By the way, I am very picky and have had YEARS of problems with numerous contractors. So, I was very nervous and did not expect the attention to detail that was given. All I can say is EXPECT EXCELLENCE when you call EGALD Construction. You will not have any regrets.

We were very happy with the job. Efrain and his crew were professionals keeping everything clean and orderly. The job took about 5 days from start to finish and Efrain was there everyday. We were particularly impressed with several landscape ideas that Efrain had suggested. He has a keen eye for details. One example, instead of throwing away some bushes that needed to be removed, he replanted them in a different area so we wouldn't lose them. He also trimmed some branches of a tree so it wouldn't obstruct the basketball shots. He also recommended that we buy a bench to put near the court which we did and the kids love having it. Efrain even stayed late one day to help complete the installation of the backboard so my kids could play. He even spent 30 minutes shooting hoops with them. The court is now complete and my kid's friends come over to play basketball. We already have identified 2 other projects for Efrain and would highly recommend him for either concrete work or for anyone looking to build a sports court.
Description of Work: We constructed a half-court basketball court in our backyard. The court was 25' long by 21' wide and 4" thick. We also had a planter box with bricks repaired and poured a new 20' sidewalk area in our backyard along with a 10' concrete pad in the front driveway area for trash cans. The job required removing existing sod, grading and compacting soil, setting forms and installing rebar prior to pouring concrete. We also had them set our pole and backboard up for us.

Efrain came out on a Saturday and gave me a comprehensive estimate for the work. He wrote out an estimate immediately at my house and showed me pictures of some work that he did. I eventually did not do the work because I had second thoughts of what I really wanted to do with the backyard wall and I got too busy. I will definitely contact Efrain again once I figure out what I really want to do with the cinder block wall.

Efrain and his worker(s) are extremely reliable, quiet and quick at their work and above all tidy. That is, they cleaned up after each day's work (swept, put tools away, watered down dirt surfaces). It was a pleasure to have him here. On one occassion when we were out of town for a few days, he called to tell us the house alarm was sounding and had done a visual outside inspection and assured us that nothing was broken into AND fielded questions from local police dept who responded to the alarm. He worked well with the electrician and landscaper and above all, us, as we seemed to be modifying our plans throughout the project. He is wonderful!!
Description of Work: Removed and filled in swimming pool. Removed and recycled (some) of the concrete to form a new pad for a above ground spa, pathway and stepping stone pathway. Laid new concrete/brick patio and platform to hold our numerous potted succulents. Extended high retaining wall and created a terrace for plants.

He was here for around a week. We had estimates from many contractors, and theirs was the best. They were very personable and easy to work with. They were very reasonably priced too. They had given good suggestions and provided good customer service. It’s a small business that the contractor does himself with some helpers. Our experience with them was absolutely excellent and worthwhile. I would recommend them to anybody.
