Designer's Choice

These guys did an excellent job in every possible way. I had been shopping for drapes for a while, and not finding the price, quality and/or material I wanted. Because Designer's Choice is in the fabric district of downtown, not only did they have much better prices, but they had access to a larger selection of fabrics (because they had relationships with near by stores). The quality of the drapes they made for me is excellent - Better than any of the other custom window coverings I have elsewhere in my house. And their customer service was very personal and flawless. They worked with me to make sure that I was happy with everything, and they were very professional during the installation as well. I highly recommend Designer's Choice. It is worth the trip to DTLA.

Ig went to the showroom and met with Sean. I told him what I wanted, and based on the measurements I provided a received a rough quote, a range based my choice of a variety of fabrics which were attractive, translucent and water-proof. I brought home samples, and my wife selected a patterned fabric that was taupe with muted peach stripes. Meanwhile, Sean's partner, Carmen, came out and measured the structure. Sean and I settled on a number for the job and I got an estimated completion date from him. When the drapes came, they were shorter than we wanted (We wanted them to brush the floor.) Sean, who is a genius with these things (he used to design and manufacture clothing (woman's dresses) ran in a pleat on top with a subtle roll that extended the drape to the desired length in a way that actually enhanced the overall look. No extra charge, and the promise that if I was not 100% satisfied he would do the whole job over again without charge. We love these guys.

We met at his shop where we selected a fabric and design that had the look we wanted. (Since we were able to find a slurred silk in his shop that we liked, we where able to save some money on materials.) About a week after he came out to measure, Carmen (his junior associate) and a worker whose name I don't recall came out and installed the drapes in a single afternoon. Everything fit perfectly the first time, so nothing had to be replaced or resized. The had work was great. The silk really looks rich because of the way that they lined it. Since many of the blinds line the two walls squaring off the koi pond in our entrance courtyard, the backside of the blinds need to look as finished as the front: they do. These tailored silk blinds hold in the heat in the summer, the cold in the winter and filters the sunlight that drenches the courtyard in the midday and the backyard in the mid-afternoon. Thanks Sean!
