I tried twice unsuccessfully to get an in person estimate. The first time I was sent an email days after the estimate time had been arranged letting me know that since they had considered my appointment tentative that they were canceling since since they hadn't received a detailed list of what I wanted done in my renovation. I certainly didn't remember it this way and gave them the benefit of the doubt on a possible miscommunication even though I had read in other reviews that they canceled or messed up estimate appointments. The second appointment I made right afterwards which was for 6:00 and was called at 5:00 by the owner informing me it would be have to be much later or the next day Sunday. I decided not to do either since it confirmed to me that they do not have this together. It seems they go make estimates after their jobs are done and they don't seem to organize this right and it is a pain for me as a customer. Undoubtedly, they will respond with a song and dance rationalization of why they were not to blame, however I would strongly urge you be aware that I am not the first person on Angie's list to find this part of their business very unprofessional and a waste of time.

The clients reports is basically correct, when this gentleman first called 9/2/2010 he was abit unclear/ vague of what he would like us to quote on, so we provided him with a tentative appointment time and suggested he send a work list for us to review, we recieved the list 9 / 8 / 2010 a day after is tentative appointment it seems they did not understand the appointment was not confirmed , on 9/9/2010 we called him to make a firm appointment time and apologized for any confusion that they had. We made a new appointment for Saturday 6 - 7pm, on that day, we called them at approx 4pm to advise that Daryl had been delayed on a job and that their appointment would be closer to 8pm and if that was not workable we would come out on Sunday at 12 mid day, they declined our offer and said they had already met with other contractors and would not need our services. ps; we dont song and dance...!! we take our business very seriously

After initial contact through Angies List they e-mailed me and then called to set up an appointment for pricing out the project. They seemed professional at this point. The day of the appointment arrived and I raced home from work to meet them in the later afternoon. When the appointment time came and went with NO ONE SHOWING UP. I called to find out what happened and was told they were supposed to have called me to tell me my home was out of their area and would not make the appointment. I'll give a little slack here because they did apologize and people do at times make mistakes when dialing however it seems to me when they set the appointment up initially they knew then they did not want to travel from Northridge (the location shown on Angies List) to Van Nuys where the home is so why did they make the appointment or even respond to my inquiry requesting we set up a time to meet. Terribly frustrating and to me makes them unreliable. Sorry.....

The project when pretty well. The project started while we were out of town and CMRS (Liza) kept us informed by e-mail (including pictures of the progress of the project). The project took a bit more time than expected due to various factors so we ended up being at home while the project was finished (one problem that arose was the faucets for the tub that we couldn't fit horizontally due to the width of the bathroom so we had to order the vertical version of the faucets and another problem was an order mistake for a faucet - not CMRS fault). Liza was very responsive about the progress of the remodeling, e-mailing always in advance when someone would come into the house to work on the bathroom or anything else. We were able to get involved a bit more in the project by deciding a few features of the bathroom and Liza was always encouraging about that. The bathroom is now completed and we are very happy. I'm highly recommending CMRS!
Description of Work: We had to remodel completely our bathroom after buying our house. The old bathroom was in a pretty bad shape. The project consisted in demolishing the old bathroom and remodeling everything: shower, floor and ceiling, tiling, painting, etc.

Description of Work: I did not use CMRS because I ended up going with a diff. contractor that came recommended by a friend and was also highly rated on Angie's List. I did, however, have multiple communications with Liza and she was always quick to respond and pleasant. Without actually being a customer of CMRS, I feel they provided great customer service and communication.

The final results were fine. I used them again after the first job. Subcontractors were very skilled. Owners are good to work with. My only problem was with scheduling. I never could rely on the original time scheduled, and I never knew who would show up to do the work. Because of this, I felt I had to brief each new worker on what had been done, and what remained to be done. Supervision, when it occurred, was good, but I would have liked the supervisor to check on the work more often, and to direct the work more. As I said, I used them again after the first experience because the work was well done. Very friendly staff.
Description of Work: 5/12/10 Removed old counter tops in kitchen and installed new. Installed new tile backsplash. Rebuilt and repaired rotting wood window shoji screen. And I used them again: 8/23/10 Straightened up a twisted privacy screen, a fence-like structure across part of the front of my house. Removed old small chainlink fence in back yard.

We have worked with the member again since this first project, there is one small error in his report, the people working on his project were not sub con's , they are employee's that are on our payroll, they did know what they were supposed to do, however the member is a very hands on client and likes to be very involved in things, hence his need to go over alot of details with every employee. Our lesson learned here, is only send one person to complete the entire project so hours are not sent re clarifying things and concerns not missed in translation, like the fence project just completed, NO hitches.

This job was done in parallel with the painting job (also by CMRS). Again, Liza was very helpful in defining the scope of the job and what could be done (we just moved into a new house as first-time home buyer). The end result was great, we couldn't have been more pleased. Note: we did all the work remotely with Liza (we were in San Francisco while the house is in Los Angeles) and met her only a few times at the house to define the project. Liza sent pictures of the work in progress every week and was very responsive to my e-mails (even Sunday night!). I am highly recommending CMRS.

This small job had to be done very quickly because we had scheduled a turf installation in the backyard for the following week. Because I worked before with CMRS, I contacted Liza who responded immediately (yes, she is awesome!). 3 days later someone from CMRS came and cut this ugly piece of concrete out of the backyard (I have to mention that it was not easy to cut it because it was alongside the house and near a concrete path that we didn't want to break during the process). I highly recommend CMRS!

They originally quoted me $850 for the job, plus some unquoted work to repair a leak in the subfloor from my roof-top sundeck. The quote I received specified that I needed to find and supply the replacement tile myself. I wasn't been able to find the tile since it is no longer being manufactured; it took me 2 months to find similar tile. When I mentioned this to the construction company they said "Oh, we coud've helped you find the tile". Really? Why wasn't I offered that option? On August 30 they had to give me a new quote because my original quote was only good for two weeks. The new quote was for $1,000. They stated the $150 dollar increase was due to a math error on the first quote. On the quote, they were only going to paint the portion of the wall that needed repair, rather than the entire wall. Nobody asked me if I wanted the entire area painted. They just assumed I wanted to save money to paint only the patched areas. They quoted the same thing for the ceiling; to paint only the patched portion. Lastly, they have a coupon for 10% off any job found this thru Angie's List. They would not honor the coupon. This coupon was on the site when the job was quoted and still remains as I am writing this at 4:42 PM PDT on 9/2/10.

good morning good morning...what a day yesterday...two rude abusive potential clients in one day and they have both has promised written rude reports and yes there they are..... The report above is true in its facts however what he fails to tell you is how rude he was to us, in fact yelling at me over the phone both my book keeper and my assistant could confirm this, in his ranting he even said himself perhaps CMRS is not the right company for me, I agreed, however he continued to banter. After discussion with Daryl we decided since he was already so unreasonable and difficult that we would pass on this project, i sent him a very nice thank you email stating such. Sometimes not matter what you do you will never make clients happy and since we had not even started work for this gentleman, it was better we just walk away and look after the other more respectful clients.

These people are incredibly rude and unprofessional. Several weeks ago I had an appointment with them that they canceled about an hour prior to the appointment time. I was hesitant to reschedule, but because they had a good rating I decided to give them another try. Now, less than 24 hours before the new scheduled appointment they have canceled AGAIN. The worst part is how arrogant and unapologetic the person was on the phone. I then asked to speak to the owner who was even ruder. I mentioned that I was an Angieslist customer and she offered to reschedule me again, but if I didn't like the time I would have to "take it or leave it." After I got off the phone with the owner she started emailing me trying to get me to engage in an argument with her. I asked her 3 times to quit contacting me. When she refused to stop I finally had to block her email address. Do not use this company...there are far too many other ones out there that are way more appreciative and deserving of your business.

BOY...how hard is it in this economy to even stay in business but to have to deal with such rude clients makes it nearly worth throwing in the towel. yesterday was the day from hell, two clients, yelling at us. This lady contacted us 7/8/2010 for an appointment for odd jobs, we scheduled her in, unfortunately if i recall there was a plumbing issue at another clients home and Daryl could not leave the water running so we called to re schedule, she said they were going out of town and would get back to us, which she did some 4 weeks later 8/27 and we scheduled her in again, unfortunately we got called for a 203K inspection by HUD, as we tried to explain to her inspections by city and HUD are out of our control and hence we must re schedule our plans which in turn means our clients. We certainly dont like upsetting peoples schedules but this is the nature of our industry there are alot of variables. Gretchen called to re schedule her after the long weekend which she was very unhappy about and asked to be put through to the owner, me, and i re explained the same story that Gretchen had. As i was speaking to her i recieved an email of a cancellation of another bank meeting 2 hours after her intial appointment and i said, i have just recieved a cancellation we can still come to visit with you tomorrow but 2 hours later would you like this or would you prefer the thursday after the long weekend, she emplied i was lying so i sent her the email whilst i was talking to her, clearly showing the time so she could see it was in fact true, she declined the appointment and said that she now did not trust our company to do a good job and would report us to angies list, i said OK and to have a nice weekend. she then responded to my email that i sent to her showing her the cancellation implying i was "stalking" her and to not contact her again or she would report us to better business bureau. For What ?????? Re scheduling her appointment, perhaps she did us a favor if she is that unreasonable now, imagine what she would be like to work with. Some potential clients you just have to walk away from. You try and do the right thing follow up but you just cant win....wow...i know so many other contractors who NEVER call, NEVER re confirm, NEVER show up, NEVER send a quote...we dont do any of these things but still recieve rude reports like this...go figure....

Pretty well. Service man was well trained and knew his business. Doors had to be taken off site to be milled which dragged the timeframe out, but work was very well executed. Strange configuration where cabinet meets new fridge which limited some storage space, partially our fault for not understanding finished job, but none-the-less, happy with the work.

It went well. The project took 5 days (day 1: demolition and prep for stuccoing, day 2: stucco, day 3: build stairs and landing, day 4: build handrail, day 5: paint and cleanup). The quote I got from CMRS was about $900 less than the 2 other quotes I received. CMRS also gave me an Angie's list discount when I asked about it. The office communicated very clearly with me via email (my preference) and accommodated my request that they take Thursday and Friday off because I had relatives coming to visit (couldn't have the gates open with little kids and pets running around the yard). The work seems well done, and I am pleased with the results.

Called for an estimate. Very pleasant staff. First date available 1 week later. Handyman came on time. I asked for an estimate on Monday as I was anxious to begin fence repairs. I'm not sure why I couldn't get an estimate on the spot as the two fence repairs were not elaborate "Daryl" said he could have an estimate emailed to me by Tuesday. CMRS does not give verbal quotes at the time of our visit, we advise our customers of this when they initally book with us, that they will be sent via email about 3 - 5 days after the visit. I asked Daryl regarding this client, and he found her to be off handed and that she required the quote on the spot, Daryl advised that we do not give prices at the time of the appointment. We did not forward a quote to her.

Working with contractors that appreciate my busy clients schedule is a pleasure. I will work with them again. I also appreciated their easygoing nature regarding working on a small project. Many contractors only want the 'big' jobs, but in my experience, most homeowners practice meeting contractors on the small jobs - then offer them the large jobs when they like their work! They have a good contract, good customer service, and made scheduling easy for me.
Description of Work: Liza came out and did a fast, thorough estimate for my client to paint a bedroom. It was very important to my clients to use no VOC paint since their baby sleeps in the room with them. Liza was understanding about the paint and our need to divide the process into two days - one prep and primer day, and a second day for the paint color. Their painter was 30 minutes late, but the office did email me to let me know. He was prepared and didn't disturb the house while he worked. He even painted a sample of the new color neatly for my client to decide on.
This company is very professional from start to finish. All of their employees did excellent work. The only issue I had was a scheduling mixup on the second day. I took off work and boarded my dogs, and nobody showed up until 5:45 P.M. While I was a little peaved, I called and spoke with Deanna and she did all she could to get an ETA on the carpenter. He was on another job and it had taken longer than he thought. Other than that, I could not have gotten better results than these people gave. And the price was very reasonable considering all they did. What's also great is the responsiveness of the people in the office. They emailed me or called every step of the way,
Description of Work: They provided a variety of handyman services. They hung a new back door, installed the door hardware; built and attached a new cellar door; fixed and replaced wood on falling-apart barn style garage doors; ripped out leak damaged area of ceiling and replaced with drywall, then mudded over it. In my bathroom they added pipe to reconfigure my shower from handheld to built-in, installed new showerhead, spout, and faucet handle. To do this they had to go into the wall and discovered that two of my galvanized steel pipes were almost rusted through. They replaced them with copper and patched the wall.

Not only did Darryl and his assistant do an excellent job, they were friendly but inobtrusive in my home while they were working. I should not be surprised. I found The Live Handyman on Angie's List, with lots of A ratings.
Description of Work: I had purchased a Wood-Fold wooden accordion-folding door to mask the laundry machine alcove off of the hallway of my house. It was a very expensive purchase, and I needed a handyman/carpenter who would install it perfectly the first time. Darryl and his assistant knew exactly how to proceed and got it done perfectly. It took a couple of hours. They even showed me that the door would work better for me if it was installed without anchoring it to either of the side walls of the alcove.

Overall, the work looks great. Daryl came a day after we called him and came up with a design that matched the architecture of the house (1929 Spanish). It took about 3 days to build. The only hitch we had was with some of the finish detail work, had to call to have them come out and do a bunch of touch ups on the paint. Daryl was very responsive once we pointed this out. Overall we're very satisfied and would definitely use CMRS - The Live Handyman again.
Description of Work: CMRS- The Live Handyman built and designed a pergola around the outside of a room that was exposed to the sun in the summer.
I asked Daryll to look at a number of varied tasks, and we scheduled work very conveniently. Randy was able to construct a trellis exactly as we hoped -- it looks terrific and is already becoming entwined with a vine -- and he also power-washed a large concrete patio and replaced a number of cracked saltillo tiles on steps. The work was completed in two days [some things needed to dry before being finished]. The final task, replacing broken roof tiles, as delayed as these particular tiles are apparently no longer made [the house dates from the 1920s] and they were able to locate a dealer and order the tiles. Once the tiles arrived, we scheduled the work, which was completed in one day.
Description of Work: Daryll and Randy performed a number of tasks: building a trellis, power-washing concrete in the backyard, repairing saltillo tiles on an entrance stairway, and replacing broken roof tiles. All but the last were completed in a short time, efficiently and well. The last task -- the roof tiles -- was delayed because it took them a long time to locate a source for the tiles, which are now rare and hard to match. They managed to locate a source and order the tiles, and then were able to complete the repair quite efficiently. All in all the job was completed with the professionalism and efficiency I had previously experienced with this company.

After looking at the situation Daryl determined that he needed to put a fire proof metal tube around the vent tubing to stop the transfer of the heat to the window sill. He needed to get the part, but was able to come back the next day to install the tubing. While he was there he also fixed a vented gate that had opened into my attic. It was a small job, but a great introduction to Daryl and CMRS's professionalism and good work.
Description of Work: I had a new dryer put into my basement which needed to have the dryer vent safely and securely run through an open window.
