This was our 3rd time using CMRS and we couldn't be happier. As usual I emailed the office with some pictures of our current bathroom floor and our wish list. Daryl promptly came out to inspect the situation and I believe we had the quote the same or next day. Work started about a week later per my request. Pulling up the old flooring which had been glued down was a back breaking task, not to mention moving our sink, toilet and very heavy claw foot tub out of the way. The next day the floor was prepped ( and properly prepped, roof paper was put down - I think that's what it was called?/acts as moisture barrier over the sub floor-, then hardibacker board and was then secured and taped up - all of this was done very well which will save us from future moisture problems/ no corners were cut here). The following day the tile went down, all which were cut perfectly. We had chosen a 1 inch honed carrara marble hex tile on 12x12 sheets with a dark grey grout. All which I bought at a local tile shop. I showed Daryl all of our materials prior to installation to make sure we hadn’t made any missteps. Unfortunately the dark grout stained our white honed marble and a portion of the tile that had been laid down was ruined, our white carrara looked like a grey dirty mess. I immediately stopped the grouting process and reached out to both my tile shop and CMRS to find out what went so wrong. The tile shop responded back by saying the installer should have tested the grout on the honed tile prior to grouting and CMRS responded back by saying CMRS cannot be held be responsible for problems with customer supplied material during installation. Though we have installed hundreds of different types of tile, there are literally 1,000's of types of tiles. We are contractors, not tile experts. There is no way to know every detail of every tile, this is why we had you contact the tile supplier beforehand. I feel both the tile shop and CMRS both made good arguments. I didn’t really have a place to directly point the blame in this situation, although why would a tile shop sell me two products that are not compatible after I explained to them exactly what I was doing and asked many questions – I may never know... In the end, the stained tile was removed and was replaced with sealed new tile and we went with a lighter grout that did not stain. Although CMRS did not cover the cost of the replacement tile they did not charge us for the extra labor to remove the stained tile, replace and re grout. Then on top of that they gave us a discount off our final payment. I felt that was more than fair. We rely on CMRS to guide us through these projects and apply their knowledge so that these problems don’t happen but it is fair to say they can’t have extensive knowledge of every single tile in the world. These things happen and CMRS handled this situation in a very fair way. The new 1/4 round was installed but not painted that day as I had asked it to be. Daryl came by to do an inspection, once he saw that the 1/4 round wasn’t painted, that same day he sent over a worker to do the finishing touches. Everything came out perfect. Once again, great work, fair price and great communication!
Description of Work: Bathroom floor remodel: Removed and disposed of old wood laminate flooring Installed proper moisture barrier paper and hardibacker board Installed hex marble tile + grout Installed new 1/4 round and painted
The work started quickly, went quickly, but was done professionally and with skill and care. There was no dawdling and no rework needed. Mario is great! The management team of Daryl and Liza are smart and caring and always helpful and willing to work with you. I would work with CMRS again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel. Installed greenboard walls and ceiling. Installed ceramic tile floors. Removed old windows. Reframed exterior and interior walls. Installed new windows. Re-stuccoed exterior wall. Installed light fixtures. Installed vanity. Installed backsplash tiles.
Overall a positive experience again. Daryl and Liza work hard to make sure everything was done properly. There was constant communication and any problems I had were addressed right away.

Daryl came out promptly to look at the job; we received an estimate the next day, liked it, and scheduled the work. The roof joist repair was finished on the appointed day, but it was raining, so the concrete work needed to wall out the skunks couldn't be done until the following Monday -- which it was. All the work seemed very competent, and we're especially pleased with the patching of the foundation: they dug a trench alongside the foundation wall, placed wire screen in it, and filled it with concrete to deter burrowing, and it looks great. Our interactions with the CMRS business office people were likewise unfailingly professional and pleasant. Everything was done on time and within the estimate, and our expectations were exceeded. We've got an old house that often needs a little work, and we will surely be calling CMRS again.
Description of Work: We asked CMRS for help with two items: (1) One of our roof joists was deteriorating and needed to be patched somehow. (2) Skunks had dug an entrance into our crawlspace and were setting up a den; we needed the hole in the foundation patched to keep the skunks out.

Have used company once before. They did fair (but not good) and affordable work then, far less so now. The administrative aspect of the company was prompt and clear, although they seem most keen to get paid--even before making sure you are satisfied with quality. Never was it, "what do you think about the work?" Instead, it was always, "please pay these monies now." What should have taken a week or two max took a month and it was very clear that we were not a priority client. The built-in cabients we requested are not "wood"--but pressed wood (never clarified)--and they are already crooked, do not open correctly and were poorly painted, never primed (what was supposed to be white is yellow; the pencil/pen marks bleed through paint). Everyone who has seen our cabinets say they look shoddy. The hole that was busted in the wall by workers was not properly fixed and we had to hire someone else to patch, sand and repaint. They never seemed to care about our needs--just wanted to get it done cheaply and quickly. Frankly, after a month of working with Daryl and co, we just wanted them to finish the job and leave and are now having to hire someone else to make the cabinets more functional and attractive. I know there will be a response to this email since all critical reviews appear to receive responses that make the client look like they are wrong. Whatever. Know that they offer, in the contract, $30 for "angies list reviews," presumably only the positive ones. For future jobs, I'm going back to my old contactor. He costs more, but cares more, too.

We were shocked to read this report from Member and her husband, return clients. Yes the project took longer than originally planned for two reasons, they added some additional works to the floor of their garage which would need to be completed before the cabinets were built. In drywalling the garage ceiling we also did some additional electrical for no charge which appears to be forgotten. Our quote clearly stated paint grade wood, the customer also changed the layout / format of the shelving twice during the process, as we explained to them also changes result in projects taking longer as we need to re quote and have them approved this price before we can re commence works, of course this causes time delays, we cannot just have the crew standing around waiting. Client made progress payments as per the agreed payment plan, so not quite sure their concerns there if clients are not happy with works then obviously payments are not made and especially the final payment. If a client is not happy then we have the last payment there for any adjustments or amendments that need to be made so that they are happy and satisfied. Member who had been phoning the office expressed some concerns regarding the weight of shelves and we double checked this and any other issues. We offer our clients $15 for an Angie's list report posting as so many of our clients never get the time to write a report and it appears lately that the only reports we get are the negative ones. We will call them this morning to make a time to return and address any concerns they may have. Of course we will post a report / rebuttle, as we want to ensure that everyone see's our side of the story, it such a shame that this recession appears to have made the poor ole small business company some sort of thief to an increasing exceptionally demanding client who wants everything cheap but high quality.

CMRS's original quote of $4700 was received on 11/27. They answered the phone and emailed me with a great deal of professionalism and were very prompt during the process . . . so I selected them even though their bid was not the lowest. On December 20th (with no actual work having been completed) I received an email explaining that based on feedback from the City of Los Angeles an engineer would need to be involved at a cost of $1500 and an architect at a cost of $1000. I agreed via email to move forward with the work trusting that CMRS had my best interest in mind. On December 29th I visited the City myself to get records on my home and read some of the literature available at the Department of Building and Safety. After considering the scope of damage I became suspicious that such a small project would require this level of review and permitting. I called the City and spoke with an inspector who said the project would only require an Express Permit. Architectural drawings are not required for this level of permit. The inspector told me that the MO of many unscrupulous construction companies is to bid low and incrementally increase the cost . . . he told me to be demanding and confrontational with the contractor. I emailed CMRS describing my conversation with the city and explaining that I felt like I had been given the ?bait and switch.? I was quite demanding asking for justification and a firm timeline for the project (even though it was shortly after Christmas). This began a heated back and forth email exchange in which CMRS informed me that: 1) Express Permits were only for projects under $750 (a lie) - Email Received December 29th 2) That the structure (built in the 1930s or 1940s) once touched would need to be brought up to code . . . this would have been another significant change order. Email Received December 29th On December 30th after receiving insulting emails from the owner Liza Robinson (see other Angie?s List responses where this company was given an F), I opted to terminate our relationship and requested a refund of my money . . . $1280 of $1960 was returned. I ended up going to the City myself, attaining two Express Permits, and hiring one of the other contractors that bid on the project. The new contractor had the project completed and approved by the city inspector within 3 days. Insurance will likely cover the full cost of this project. However, despite the fact that I will likely not need to pay for this out of pocket, I believe that companies that use this tactic to increase revenue should be called out for their actions. At the micro level, this tactic hurts homeowners. At the macro level, it increases homeowners insurance for all of us. CMRS may do beautiful work . . . look at their website! But what it will cost you is questionable. Based on comments I see from other Angie's list members that have given this vendor poor reviews, I believe the owner will comment on the following: 1) She will say I was overly demanding with communication - Once I felt like I was being taken advantage of I did become demanding of the company when it came to communication. If a question in one of my emails was not addressed I called them on it and asked for an answer. 2) She will say that their office was "closed" for the holidays during this process and that they bent over backwards to respond to me. From my perspective, their employees were calling me to collect money during this timeframe . . . and they were responding to emails . . . That doesn't spell "closed" to me. 3) She will suggest that I am somehow trying to game the system or am somehow dishonest . . . I do not stand to profit from this. 4) She will suggest that I do not understand the permitting process . . . Believe me, unfortunately I had to learn it. MY LESSON LEARNED: Contractors are not your advocates. They will profit from expanding your project . . . so if you get a change order QUESTION IT! Keep this in mind when doing a project.
Description of Work: CMRS was hired to repair damage to our garage after an out of control car crashed into the corner damaging the siding, framing, and garage door. The service was not completed because the vendor was terminated prior to starting.

Chain of events; 11/19 client called requesting quotation 11/23 met with client at his home 13 days later received signed quote, it does not appear there was an urgency at this time but from 12/28 to 12/30 over the holiday weekend it became a very urgent matter for the client. 12/6/2010 client signed quote $4700 deposit $470 including a $200 city visit fee 12/7/2010 client paid deposit 12/13/2010 additional photos taken on site to take to city as client decided to get permits which was not requested previously 12/16/2010 CMRS attended CSLB and spoke to enquiry counter 4th floor - Nth Figueroa office - showed them our scope of works / quote and photos and they gave us the (sheet attached) 12/16/2010 advised client of city requirements 12/20/2010 sent client copy of the city's check list for his review and copy to his insurance company 12/20/2010 sent client quote for preparation of engineer and architectural drawings 12/20/2010 client confirmed additional quote and we scheduled architect (BEFORE the deposit and 3d cooling off period) 12/21/2010 revised client quote to send to the insurance company 12/22/2010 architect visits clients home to take measurements and prepare drawings 12/24 - 12/26 - xmas 12/27 received architects drawings, advised client they had been sent to engineer - see email comments from engineer sent to client (attached) 12/27 CMRS advised client that to save some money he could go to the city himself to do further research, we advised him where to go.(attached) 12/27 client confirmed he would go down there and get what info he could. 12/27 client tried to send very large file of his documents received from his city visit, we were unable to open the file he got very frustrated, office was closed, we had no phones due to AT & T storm issue, Gretchen came in for a few hours to check on things and attempted to assist client. He became upset and implied we were doing something under handed! 12/28 signed agreement for engineer / architectural works received and deposit paid - if were MONEY hungry contractors why would we have in good faith started work on this for him on December 21st going on this written email to only find out he did not trust "us"? 12/29 client requested a start and completion date, he requested copies of architectural drawings. 12/29 reply to client advising that we could not commit to time frame until signed off drawings by city and we advised processing times with LA B & S. 12/29 CMRS received email to say that he was not happy at the lack of response from CMRS eg; that gretchen took 3 hours to respond to a HUGE file that we had trouble in received, that we did not respond to an email December 29th 12/29 cmrs faxed over the architectural drawings that had been sent to engineer. 12/30 fax and email received from client to cancel all quotations and requested all monies returned. We immediately refunded the $1280 for the architectural drawings evening though he had taken 6 days to forward the signed copy and pay deposit and we had already prepared and sent architectural drawings and had the engineer do first review, so we were out of pocket and still had to pay them. 12/30/2010 letter sent to Insurance company advising them that we were no longer contractor on record and home owner was doing the project as owner builder we believed 1/6/2011 Daryl met with a city plan checker received the same information that we did on our first visit we did not meet the same guy we advised the client of the outcome of this visit( see attached) Total emails between client and CMRS between 12/20 and 12/30 was over 30 I hardly consider this lack of response especially during a holiday period and with no phones.Everyone will recall the huge storms in LA which resulted in electrical outage and our AT & T lines down for 10 days (approx 12/23 to 01/ 9). We do not recall any insulting emails to the client. We were closed for holidays from December 23rd till January 4th however we did answer urgent emails for clients to keep their projects moving along during the holiday period. Frankly organizing engineers, architects and processing city permits is a big pain however if the clients request it then of course as a service we offer this co ordination, we mark up the architect and engineers invoices a standard 20 %, plus we charge them for city office visits. There is no real profit for us in doing this. As you will see in our email on 12/27 we recommended ways that the client could save money by doing some research himself. Once the city is involved it is well known that once you touch an existing structure, then the city "may" require you to bring the entire area up to code costing customers alot more money, this is something that CMRS has no control over. We must notify clients of this just in case. City of Los Angeles building & Safety has received enormous staffing cut backs in the past 6 months, the employees are totally over worked, you can attend the office 3 times and receive 3 different answers. The standard Type V building code is being re worked. We visited the city again on 1/6/2011 to discuss the situation and we were told exactly the same answers we received the first time 12/16/2010, so CMRS acted in good faith. The City of LA is renowned for their red tape, see recent article in Los Angeles Magazine (see attached). If he mislead the city and advised them that this project was not more than 10% of the total re build of the garage which would be $46,000 then this could be an issue for him. The city told us that if he mislead the city then when the city inspector reviewed the project for sign off and determined that the permit was not correct, they would require him to do the architectural plans / engineer process exactly what they had told us. Legally we did not have to allow him to cancel his original contract after the 3 day cooling off period however since he had become untrusting, there was no point in starting a working relationship with him. In retrospect we would love it if clients do all this process themselves, it is a headache we dont want or need but something that we are required to do to offer a full service and great customer service. He was not reimbursed the $480 initial deposit and $200 for the city visit from the original contract total of $680. He received the architectural drawings even though he did not pay for them. In fact CMRS is out of pocket considerably. We do not feel we have misled him in anyway, we have followed the instructions given to us by the city. We advised him of every step, if he decided to go another route that is totally his right but we have not done anything un just or un handed to attempt to get more money from our client. The pool gate we initially installed to separate our pool from the yard became uneven. Most quotes had put the repair at over $1000. Daryl explained how a quick, relatively inexpensive, fix could make the problem irrelevant. He took the extra time to make sure the job was done right, including spending an extra hour to ensure that he could put on an extra coat of paint. Very complete. Very kind, very thorough.
Description of Work: Gave estimate on re-doing porch. Also fixed a malfunctioning wrought iron gate separating our yard from our pool area.

Hired them to paint the exterior of my house which is stucco. They did not know how to patch the stucco cracks properly. They painted my windows shut. They kept saying they'd fix the problems after I paid more money but there were way too many problems to fix. Sub-standard work. They wouldn't use any primer even after I asked them to. They used the wrong fillers and the wrong texture, they left many cracks and holes unfilled. They were using the wrong tool to spread the filler. I paid another contractor to look at the work and they agreed it was very poor; cutting corners with everything. They told me they would fix everything at the "walk through" at the end, after i paid them the majority of the total price. This made me extremely uncomfortable. I told them they had to fix the problems or i would not pay them any more money before continuing on. They came and got their equipment the following morning. They left a mess of paint chips in my yard and scratched my flagstone in numerous places with their ladders. They left trash on my property. The painters themselves were very nice but the owners and manager of the project did nothing to put me at ease or fix my issues. They took over 2 grand from me and just left my house there with the paper and tape over all of the windows.

1/24/11 for $6800 approx 6 - 10 biz days for completion. Client advised she was not clear of what area’s were getting painted, we advised Daryl would meet with her on first day to go over all details to ensure she was 100% clear, she thought that the metal garage door, the metal railing fence was included Daryl advised her that he would spray them for her at no additional cost. Discussion on the very bad stucco patch job that had been performed by another person some time ago. We commenced, with standard prep work filing stucco cracks with silicon stucco, her house was white so we sprayed the first coat of white paint (one could Call it primer if you like), and then continued with the 2nd coat of paint. Two experienced employee's on project. 1st day payment was not made as agreed on 1/24 but on 1/25. The same evening she emailed to ask if the back wall of her home over looking the deck would be painted we replied by saying yes. Tuesday 25th she called the office and spoke with me and went over her concerns she said she did not feel that Daryl was listening to her, and that she knew quite abit about stucco repairs etc since she had watched numerous DIY shows and also done some herself in the past, she was concerned she had 2nd rate employees on her job.I assured her that this was not the case and explained to her that with stucco repairs you can achieve a very close blend but that due to technique of applying and the different compounds that change over the years from the way they are manufactured that it would not be 100% the same. I also explained that we had not quoted to do any major stucco repairs. I told her the only way she would achieve this is by completely re stuccoing her house, approx $15 - $20K. Daryl would be there in the morning to go over any area's of concern. Wednesday 26th Daryl called by the job, he advised she was not 100% happy with the filling of the stucco cracks, we advised her we would re do them. She pointed out several stucco area's that were repaired by someone else, that were large that she wanted re done in our bid, we advised we would just fill them in on the same way. Daryl also spoke with her husband who advised his wife likes to 10 peoples advice and get 10 different opinions. She had asked our head guy if he had every sprayed stucco, which is texture coating which he had not, you can achieve a similar texture repair on a wall with out this process. After this meeting we concluded all was happy and we proceeded. This day she then authorized the over 25% progress payment of job to be charged to her card. Friday 28th (day 5) email 10.53am to request the over 50% progress payment she replied at 5.23pm by saying that she would make the payment Saturday 29th "IF" she was happy and after she could review it in the light and that she wanted a experienced stucco person on the job and not staff that were learning. We replied 5.44pm by saying that our employee's were not learning on the job and that her progress payment was overdue. We mentioned we were confused as she told Daniel on Thursday that she was much happier with the additional touch ups we did following our Wednesday meeting. Her reply she never said she was HAPPY but it was better. Reply at 6.08pm to advise again that our scope of works did not include stucco repairs but rather stucco prep work prior to painting and suggested Daryl return at 8am Sat to go over this again. 8am Sat Daryl met with the client and husband to go over again. They showed Daryl where the window we had just painted and that had got stuck over night, he put a razor along it and advised that prior completion all windows that were painted by us would be re checked to ensure that they open that this part of our standard touch ups. The larger stucco area's repaired by others in the past implying that this was our work, which it wasn’t. Daryl again explained we could make this look better than it did now. He noted there was two area's that were not to our usual standard. They reviewed paint can which says that you can use this as a primer followed by top coat, so the home would get two coats of paint. Sat 11.33am email re confirming our commitment to achieving a quality finish and that at Daryl would do his usual walk around prior to sign off and also requested our 50% progress payment that was due (we had been on the job 5 days) if she had paid this we would have then received $3360. 17 emails from 9am when Daryl left her home and 6pm, stating things not to standard, not completed, sub standard work, refusing to make the 75% payment which was not due it was the 50% payment that was over due. She seemingly called the office 4 times leaving ranting messages demanding new crew, of not using the correct building materials, not using the correct process, that she now did not trust us and would not pay until we fixed things. Her emails were ranting, like she was on something, making comments like "the end", "good luck to you". At that point it was not worth putting any more $$ in that she may never be happy. We have never left a project for a client not paying, and we were not happy to do this. We advised client we would return Sunday morning at 9am to collect tools. There was no rubbish left on the property, perhaps she was talking about the plastic around her plants and windows which her next painting crew would need.

They did the painting for me but could not do the wood repair that I needed done. They only charged me for what they did and I ended up going with someone else to fix the wood. They gave me no trouble at all when I switched in the middle of the job. They sent me a receipt that I needed to give to my insurance company. The woodworking was very specialized and I do not fault them at all for not being able to obtain the materials I thought would be necessary for my insurance company to allow.
Description of Work: They came out in the rain for an estimate to strip lead paint and paint my old garage. They followed the federal regulations for stripping lead paint.

it was not so much as we could not do the work, we can, however the peice of siding that the Member needed required to be milled which would take some time and she was against the clock for her home insurance, the other company by chance had this old siding in stock so was able to meet her deadline.
It went well, with an acceptable amount of bumps along the way. We got bids, and Daryl was prompt and detail-oriented during the bid, including taking photos of relevant areas for future reference. His bid was competitive and detailed, so that we knew what each task cost, rather than just a bottom line total. Liza kept us informed as the first day of work arrived, including being very accommodating toward our pets. The work was performed as advertised, and anytime an issue came up, there was a phone call or an email to make sure we were involved in the decision or at least informed of the cause of the delay. There was only one issue that came up that ended up adding expense, which was that there was an additional sub-floor under the carpet in the master bedroom that had to be removed to allow the new hardwood to match up height-wise with the other floors it touched. They made sure we were aware of the consequences of our choices and the additional cost was nominal. The workers were polite and consistently there when they said they would be and it was overall a very positive experience. Now that some time has passed, the results far outweigh the petty gripes that came up during the job. That being said, here are some detailed issues we experienced: When they were finishing the bedroom floors, we were forced to camp in the living room, which was fine, since it was supposed to take four days. However, between getting the color and finish just right and some other unforeseen setbacks, it ended up taking two weeks and four days. Luckily, our bathroom has direct outdoor access, otherwise it might have been impossible, rather than just inconvenient. However, the resulting floors are beautiful. There were also a couple of times that there was miscommunication between the workers, Daryl, and ourselves. For example, when painting the master bedroom, the worker asked what color we wanted the doors (either to match the trim or the walls) and we answered. However, as time went by, the doors were never painted, so when we brought it up on the last day of painting (which happened to be the last day of the job), Daryl was surprised and told us that painting the doors was not included in the scope of work. However, he did it anyway, with no additional charge. Also, to be fair, we share in the responsibility for the miscommunication because we were not as clear or proactive as we should have been and any concern we ever communicated directly to Daryl or Liza was addressed completely. Finally, I got the feeling that the sense of urgency to complete the job escalated greatly on the final day. Whether that was because the next job was looming or the workers' schedule worked out that way coincidentally, we had the most attendance and the most activity by far on the final day, and all told it was a four week job. It was as if they were working to a deadline we were not aware of, and it led to us finding a couple of minor flaws after they left (like a threshold that was laid down but not attached) which they promptly fixed once we notified them. On a more positive note, they re-re-screened one of the doors at no charge after our pets decided to charge at each other through the newly repaired screen. Bottom line, if you can communicate your expectations, they will do everything in their power to meet them. We will be using them again, without a doubt.
Description of Work: Installed unfinished flooring in the master bedroom and hallway, sanded 2nd bedroom flooring and finished all floors together to match. Stripped wallpaper and then painted interior walls (including over wood paneling) and ceiling in master bedroom. Replaced 4 light fixtures (two ceiling fans, two hanging lights). Built two doors to fit outdoor storage closet and wine cellar, then painted outdoor retaining wall and newly built doors. Painted fascia on eaves around entire house. Repaired and remounted door on outdoor greenhouse. Caulked kitchen backsplash and bathtub. Stripped tinting off of several floor-to-ceiling windows. Re-screened multiple sliding screen doors.

This project could have gone alittle bit smoother for sure, however it is once again a customer not reading the scope of works and being 100% clear of everything we quoted. The Member expressed he did not want it rushed but rather a quality job which is what they recieved. There was no sense of urgency on the last day , it is not uncommon that we bring a few members of the team back together to do final walk through to ensure we do not miss anything.

CMRS is fantastic about communication, from the very start and throughout the project. Responses from Liza and Gretchen were always very prompt, especially over email, which was the most convenient way for me to communicate. And Mario is the absolute best on tile - his attention to detail was fantastic! The project took longer than expected, part of which was due to city permits and waiting for inspections but part was just the scope of work. Overall, though, I'm thrilled with the results and would have absolutely no hesitation about working with CMRS again!
Description of Work: 2 bathrooms were completely remodeled. No walls were moved, but completely re-tiled, new fixtures and paint.

Daryl came to look at my house and prepare an estimate. He was punctual, professional and seemed like a very nice guy. In the end I went with another painter because the CMRS bid was higher than others.
Description of Work: I had the exterior of my 1,000 sq ft house painted, including extensive prep on the wood trim, and my small deck sanded and stained.

Daryl came out and looked over our project. Then he brought some of his crew over to discuss our options for the various aspects of the project with us -- Corey and Randy for the deck and fence and David & Mario for the pavers. Daryl had several cost saving ideas for us including not having to demo all the concrete, but rather just build over it. We had a formal quote from Liza within two days. Corey started work on the Deck about three days later. They all worked together and/or separately on the various aspects as needed. Each part of the project was done to the highest standards. They all were very neat and professional thoughout the project, which took about a month because they were hampered by a few days of rain. We could see that the whole crew was dedicated to doing all the work properly Each day we received an e-mail letting us who and when the workers would arrive. Daryl came several times to oversee the project and make sure everything was proceeding properly. We had a couple of unexpected issues -- things we had not realized until the work actually was in progress. Daryl came over several times as did Liza to discuss our options and make suggestions which were always practical and cost effective. They even did some extra work for us at no charge to solve some of the details in question. At the end of the project my husband and I both felt that we were very lucky to have worked with the entire CMRS crew. It was a great experience and we highly recommend them. We'd had some terrrible experiences in the past with contractors being flaky and doing mediocre work, so we are thrilled to finally have found a company that we can absolutely trust.
Description of Work: We had a backyard in total disrepair. Concrete deck was too small and broken, concrete patio was broken & uneven and was surrounding an old Jaccuzi. CMRS built us a new deck, built and painted a new 20 ft pergola, installed paver tiles over about 600 Sq Ft of broken concrete and built and painted a new fence.

This is my second time using this service. The office is very nice to deal with. All details got clarified to everyone's satisfaction befor the job was started. They are very good at grasping what it is you need to have done. They were able to finish my job quickly, and everything was skillfuly done. The French door overhang, in particular turned out to be just what I wanted, and was constructed and finished with great care. I would not hesitate to use this service again.
Description of Work: Replaced 40' of rotted fascia, repaired a wooden fence, reset loose bricks in planters, installed sweeps on doors, hung 4 trellises on stucco walls, built a narrow redwood overhang above a double French door and stained.

Good experience. CMRS did very good work. Fairly punctual. They know their stuff. They never caused any delays, in fact they seemed anxious to finish the job and move on. I caused some delays (as did my neighbors) and they were easy to deal with on this. We had a small dispute on the bill due to some ambiguous wording in the contract-- I proposed a compromise on it and they accepted it. I would normally have stood my ground without suggesting a compromise but they earned some goodwill-- you an't say that about contractors often.
Description of Work: Ripped out the shower, replaced it with a tiled one, frameless glass door, new fixtures; coated over the popcorn ceilings. Gave estimates for new windows but the supplier was going to take too long.

There was an issue. I have a tenant in place and she did all the negotiating and problem solving in the property. It seems that there was a problem with the guy that they sent over. Apparently, he had an attitude problem. It all worked out in the end, but I am not sure if I will use them again in the future. I spent $1200 on the job. I didn?t meet them personally. There was a problem with the work he did. It was substandard. Apparently he was called on it and he had responded very aggressively to the criticism. In the end, it was resolved. They worked on it until the work was done to the right specifications.
Description of Work: I used CMRS - The Live Handyman a month ago. They did work on a gate and repaired a fence.

There seems to be alittle bit of a disconnect with this project, from the owner who has written the report, had her tenant who co ordinate the works that she requested and then what he requested. please see emails below which clearly show everyone was happy with the finished project. Yes. It looks great! Thanks From: Member Sent: Thursday, August 26, 2010 6:39 PM To: Tenant Cc: 'Damon Gambuto'; Subject: RE: progress payments Thank you Tenant…did you like the photos? Don't want to put Randy through having to come back yet again because of some miscommunication. The following Saturday is fine for me. Same time? Thanks so much, Damon From: Damon Gambuto Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2010 11:22 AM To: Daryl Vidal Cc: 'Tenant' Subject: Re: apologies Hey there, Liza, It's ok. Randy eventually calmed down and we worked through it. He is a nice guy who seemed to feel a little beat up how his work was received. Once we talked through it we were able to be polite and friendly with each other. I stayed with him as he made the fixes to the gate. I offered up some ideas about how to improve it and he agreed and executed them very well. He was nothing but friendly the first time we met so I was taken aback by his hostility this morning, but he apologized and cooler heads prevailed. I'm sure he's not usually like that. Thanks for the work. The gate is working smoothly now and I appreciate all of your, Daryl, and Randy's work and attention. We are all set here so there's no need for Daryl to come on Monday. All the best, Damon
I have used their services in the past too. They did a great job with the door. They made a good effort with the leak even though that really isn?t their specialty. I am planning to call them again to help me repair some flooring and drywall. Daryl himself came out. He and his crew made minor adjustments to the way that the hinges were on the door and it has been perfect ever since they did that. They tend to be pretty fast and they provide diverse amount of services. They can do a lot of different things. They are very helpful when you are not quite sure where to go to. They are also helpful when you want them to come out to look at the job to see what they can do. Their prices are good. They were pretty responsive. I would use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: I used the services of CMRS - The Live Handyman in February of 2010 to fix a closet door that was falling off. I also had them come out to diagnose a leak.
Daryl came to give me an estimate on building a new deck. He suggested to not build a new deck but refurbish the old deck and replace the rotten wood. To build a new deck would have cost double the money. He did not have to do that. Every other bid I had never even suggested refinishing, for that matter most of them never even bothered to show back up. I also asked him to give an estimate to repair a leak in our daughter's room that had been leaking since it was built 11 years ago. (The original contractor refused to fix it saying it was't his responsibility!). The deck was never built properly to begin with, many of the railings were never completely flush. CMRS put in fresh railings replaced every rotten board, slanting them away from the house for proper drainage (who knew?). The deck was stripped of the old paint sanded where necessary and then painted with deck paint that they recommended. My daughter's room was another matter. Once they started working on finding the source of the leak it was discovered that the whole exterior wall to her room needed to be replaced along with the windows, which had rusted due to water damage. The windows were larger than standard windows available at any of the outlet stores, so Randy found them through one of their sources and ordered them. Took a few extra days, but it was worth the wait. Daniel, their "mud man" did an almost artistic job on the ceilings and windows making them smoother than before. A Picasso of mud and paint. Randy and Corey worked so hard and showed a great deal of concern about making sure the work was done correctly. I felt it was not only done correctly, but with care. This is not a slap dash organization. With each change from the original work that we agreed on I was given a written estimate detailing the work and the responsibilities. This was much more professional than never having anything in writing from other contractors. Daryl gave me a small "lecture" on maintaining my deck and how best to keep up with it so that I never am faced with this problem any time soon. He made it seem effortless and I will not be so intimidated about the process now that he explained how to do it.
Description of Work: Completely refinished my 11 year old deck replacing rotten wood. They sanded and painted the deck to make it look better than when it was originally built. Replaced and rebuilt an exterior wall to my daughter's room, two windows, replaced partial ceiling inside the room with terrible water damage, and put proper flashing from slate deck to limit future leaks. Removed and replaced door on deck which was actually an interior door not a exterior door, put there by the original contractor. He, the original contractor, put the same kind of door in 2 or 3 times, Daryl took one look and asked "Why?".
