CMRS Construction

Sadly my overall experience was not a very good one. I hired the Live Handyman after reading all of the wonderful reviews and was excited to get the work done. The chain fence was installed, but was not dog proof (the bottom of the fence was not secure and the dog can easily push through it, which completely defeats the purpose of the fence. The refinish work on the my 100 year old front door was okay, but the poly finish he put on was shiny, and I asked for matte. I had some questions about the sanding and refinish work he did to my large outdoor table and asked to come by so we can discuss, but that never happened. I asked in my original request to paint the outside of the new door he installed, and stain the inside. Apparently this was lost in translation because when the door was installed, Liza told me he doesn't paint or do staining but would consider doing it this time. I told them please dont if you dont feel comfortable with it i will hire someone else. I know they were just trying to accomodate my request, but I should have gotten a real painter since the paint job on my door was so bad i had to get it redone. Plus, he didn't paint the door himself but had some other guy come paint it. Didn't know that was going to happen. When the job was done, I saw that he left all the plastic on the windows. I don't know if you ever tried to remove that plastic yourself, but it's not as easy as you would think. It's still on the door. Also, they never stained the inside of the door, even though I have emails to prove they thought it was paint and would be able to do the work. Which never happened. With all the positive reviews, it may be safe to assume my experience was an isolated one. Or maybe I expected too much from a handyman. Regardless I just felt compelled to write in detail my experience as I would hope other Angie listers would do the same, regardless of how many positive reviews.

Liza was very quick to respond and set up a date to review scope of work. Her and Daryl showed up on the agreed date/time and spent a lot of time with me walking through the proposed work and what my options were. They promptly provided a quote and started the work within a few days. I had a new tenant moving into the house and the work needed to be done in a short turn-around time. They were realistic in what they could finish within the timeline and then asked if they could work on a couple of the exterior projects the following week. The work was completed in a timely manner and with good quality. Liza continued to communicate with me on a regular basis and provide updates.

After contact with the company, someone was sent right away to give an estimate. Once the deposit was received, work began the next day. They were quick, efficient and the quality of the work was very good.

The entire process went very well. Liza is easy to communicate with via e-mail and all appointments and work times were set-up and completed as promised. Jose and Francisco who did the painting and tile work were professional, punctual and easy to work with. After seeing the work, I feel the pricing was very fair for the painting and tile work. I do feel the quote for hanging the mirror in the living room was excessive, but it was done professionally and I am happy with the end result of all the work.

They patched the hole of the water heater in the laundry room, on the outside of the house and the inside. When they relocated the light, I thought that they would relocate the wires as well, but they did not. They took the light out and patched the hole with a steel plate with two screws, and I was upset about that. They said that I didn t say I wanted it rewired, and I told them that I had assumed that the light would be rewired. They wanted to charge me $500 additional for that. When I asked them to paint the front windows, they said that they were busy and sent out a person to sand and paint the window frames. I came home and saw that he had done a really shoddy job. It looked like I could have done it better. I emailed the woman who handles all the contacts - she is 100% accessible. She came to review it, and was surprised herself. She got the sub-contractor to come over and work on it, clean it up and finish it. It seems like they sub-contract jobs when they are busy, to people who may not specialize in that field. I think that their prices are pretty high too.

I thought they were really great. They did everything on time and they were friendly to boot.

Everything went very well once I contacted a provider via Angie's List. Several contacts were VERY booked. CMRS got me a written estimate after a personal visit. One unselected contractor wanted me to accept an estimate without a visit. They did not get a second chance.

Very well - all projects were completed on time and met my expectations. In addition, Daryl and his team are very professional and friendly. These projects were completed over a series of months and I would definitely call them again for my next project.

It was an excellent experience. There was never any doubt about the cost of the work or what specifically was being done.

The job went very well and was done in a few weeks. We ran into some rain briefly but everything was done as specified and priced. I would strongly recommend Daryl and Liza. The deck turned out beautiful.

Working with Daryl, Liza and Francisco was a very pleasant experience. Daryl was quick to respond to our request for a quote for the project. His price was reasonable for the work performed. Once the work began they arrived on the times quoted, finished all the work within the time quoted and did not exceed their budget. Liza managed the logistics quite professionally and Daryl's assistant Francisco was a very pleasant person to deal with- not to mention our new shower looks great! Overall it was a great experience. We highly recommend CMRS and look forward to working with them again. It is very hard to find a trustworthy, timely and professional contractor- CMRS fits the bill.

From my initial contact with Liza at the company to the conclusion of all projects, communication was excellent. Liza responds to telephone calls and e-mails very quickly-even on the weekend! They arrived promptly to review the work I wanted done and gave me an estimate in a very timely fashion. The painters arrived when promised and worked efficiently and were careful with my furniture as well as leaving the area neat and vacuumed when they left. I ended up adding a couple of small projects and they were very willing to accommodate those wishes. I prefer to be at home when work is being done inside of my home and they very willingly accommodated my schedule. Only one minor glitch. The painters somehow lost the brackets to my curtain rod. Liza cared enough to call and ask precisely where I got the rod so they could match the brackets to the rod I had. A few days after the rod was installed I noticed that one bracket was pulling away from the wall. The company had already been paid in full so I was concerned I might have difficulty getting this minor repair taken care of. I called Liza, received an apology for the problem and she scheduled a time to have it fixed. The rod was securely reattached to the wall. A bit of a hassle? Sure, but let's face it, things like this do happen! I was impressed that they were so eager to resolve this small issue to my complete satisfaction. By the way, my train depot clock was hung free of charge, and Daryl helped me figure out a problem I was having with a new hinge I installed on a cupboard door, also at no charge. Small things, yes, but it's nice not to feel like you're being "nickeled and dimed to death."

Liz responded to my email inquiry regarding their availability to perform services within the same evening. We were able to meet and discuss the scope of the project within days of my initial contact. Because of my schedule, Daryl and Liz made special accomodations and have Boris, a member of their team, perform services within 2 days from our meeting. Boris worked Saturday and Sunday to complete his assignments. He was very nice and professional. A pleasure to work with.

Everything went quite smoothly, even with bad weather making things difficult for their crew. They were more than willing to work together with me to coordinate multiple projects going on simultaneously, even with other contractors.

Very quick turn around from acceptance of quote to start of project--about one week. Able to work around our special requirements for when work could/could not be done. Completed work on schedule. Cleaned up site when finished!

We had a baby coming soon and needed to get the nursery finished (9x12 room/ceilings with two 3x3 closets). We were planning on doing all the work ourselves, and managed to get the drywall hung, but were quickly running out of time. We contacted several companies to get the drywall finishing work done, but Daryl and Liza gave the best price and could fit the work into our tight time frame. From the initial meeting through completion and final walk-thru, they made us feel confident in their ability and comfortable with their workers. The walls looked great... ready to paint. Highly recommended.

I was glad to have the problem of the unmountable TV solved.

Daryl Vidal, the owner, came out promptly and discussed this moderately complex job with us. Several days later, an estimate was provided in detail. When we had objections to a couple of terms of the contract, Daryl and Eliza worked with us until the wording was to our mutual satisfaction. The workmen arrived approximately on time (all we can expect, living in a canyon). They were resourceful, thorough, cleaned up after themselves each day and were very courteous, if a bit slow. There was a problem matching the antique brick that needed to be replaced in the front walkway. Ultimately, neither Daryl's guys nor our own efforts succeeded in finding a size match. We elected to do the brick work ourselves with our own supplies and materials and Daryl graciously reduced our invoice amount by a reasonable amount. Overall, we're still very happy, even though Daryl can't do miracles. We would use them again.

They responded quickly and were excellent about providing an estimate and sticking to it. Originally the work was supposed to be done in a day, but it spilled into a second day. However, they were able to get it done quickly.

Overall, we were happy with The Live Handyman and will most likely hire them again in the near future. Daryl came when he said he would come for the quoted price, and his employee, Jersi, was always on time and professional in performing the work. Liza is very accessible and responsive back in the office, so we never felt stuck wondering where someone was or the status of the project. There were some small oversights in the quoting process that led to some minor delays, but The Live Handyman absorbed any overages that resulted from that. From a quality perspective, we were pleased overall, but realized that there are many levels of quality and that we, as the customer, need to be better prepared with questions as to how the job will be completed so that we have a better understanding of our options. For instance, we had an odd shaped bar that required molding. As a result of the odd-shape, there were some gaps that needed filler. We would have been curious to know how much extra it would have cost to have actually cut the molding to fit cleanly, even though we probably would not have opted for the more expensive approach since it looks fine with the filler. Likewise, some new molding pieces didn't match existing pieces. It still looks fine for us, but it would have been helpful to know the price for exactly matching the pieces. Overall, we are pleased with the new work and have more projects on the horizon.

Daryl was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the job which required a great deal of care to complete properly.There was one misunderstanding on my part after the work began regarding the scope of the work which Daryl immediately took care of in a very equitable fashion. His overriding concern was that I be completely satisfied with the job he did. I was very happy to have chosen him for the project.

This company was a bit over priced. The work was quality but based on this experience I find it hard to trust their services again. He told me that he needed to go to another town to get a part but assured me that I would not be charged for it. When the bill came I had in fact been charged for it. He did good work but was not honest in his billing.

Daryl had given me an initial estimate based on photos I had emailed of the issue, but came out to give a final assessment and estimate, which was (rightly) slightly higher than from the photos. Even so, his bid was extremely competitive to the other bids I received, even after the revision. I had to wait for an estimate from another contractor for a week (it never came), but when I called Liza to schedule the job, Daryl and his dry-waller showed up two days later, at the appointed time. Jose finished all of the drywalling the first day, and Daryl came back with his painter two days later to do the painting and moulding work, the result of which is far better than the work from the company who initially installed the moulding. They were careful and clean, personable and precise. I'd use them again, and in fact am waiting for a further bid on another job I have in mind.

I have called many a handyman in the past, and in my experience, they usually don't call back for a long time, take a long time to get out there, and then usually do a medium job of it. I was impressed by the professionalism of this company -- they actually have a scheduler rather than having you just call some busy tradesman's cell phone in the middle of the day. We had to reschedule a couple of times, but it was always within reason and they began work a week after he first came out to give me an estimate -- a miracle. The work was done about one week later. All work was very well done. I owe it to Angie's List for finally allowing me to find someone I can use again. Thanks Daryl and Liza.
