+ 0 moreThis company is a complete rip-off. They took payment, showed up for a cursory inspection, and then never sent the report/estimate. I called 3 times. They promised to send a report, but a month later, have sent nothing and stopped returning calls. Clearly, companies are busy after the rainy season, but it is inexcusable to take money and then disappear. Stay away from this company.

+ -1 moreThey came out, but it didn't work to well. It was a day after rain and it was muddy. The guy was reluctant to go under house and look. He took pictures and said he would send a report and I haven't heard back from him. It only took him about a half hour to do the inspection, he couldn't find his flashlight then had to run off to keep another appointment. He didn't do anything well he was very unprepared. I would tell others to save their money and don't use them. The first time I had an appointment the guy never showed, second time he was late and now no follow up. Sometimes you get good companies and sometimes not.

+ -1 moreThey did a good job of inspecting the house. They told me it was going to cost $25,000 and multiple permits to try to rectify it. I'll take my chances with the earthquake. There was an inspector here and he examined the foundation and he looked under the house. He was thorough and communicative. I have no gripe against him. It's just that the amount of work that he felt was necessary was beyond my financial needs. I didn't have any comparisons.

+ 0 moreWonderful customer service throughout the whole process. They were punctual with everything from start to finish and their prices were reasonable. I was helping my disabled grandmother to get some foundation work done on her West Hollywood home. Even though I don’t live in Los Angeles, California foundation works made sure that the whole process went as smooth as possible without me having to fly there. The inspector was very thorough in answering the questions and wasn’t pushy at all. It’s because of this kind of customer service that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. It’s not just the customer service but the foundation repair was exceptional too. The job was done right, they provided me with pictures and everything was signed off by the city department of building and safety. I highly recommend this company with full stars!

+ -1 moreI was VERY pleased with the work that California Foundation Works did for our house. We had a large hole in our foundation with a lot of the area crumbling away in about a 10 foot area. I had 4 different foundation companies come out to give estimates, including one other that I had previously used before and liked. However, after talking to each company, California Foundation Works was the only company that was interested in getting to the root of the problem...which was drainage issues. They took one look at the problem area and figured out that needed to be done. All the other companies just wanted to fix the section of foundation and that's it, or in the case of one company, they tried to use scare tactics to get me to replace half my foundation for 70k, and then got mad and yelled at me when I pointed out that the other 3 companies didn't recommend anything even close to what they proposed. The fact that California Foundation Works was honest from the get-go meant a lot. On top of all that, California Foundation Works gave an extremely competitive estimate. When it came time to do the work, they communicated with me very well the entire way, they worked very fast, and did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend them to others!

+ -1 moreThis was a $49 big deal purchase. It was not that great. They did the inspection, then they came back and the guy said he would be sending a report. I never got the report. It was the holidays so I called him back after the holidays and they said that they had a computer glitch and they were glad I called so could they send someone else out to inspect again for the report. I said, sure. Someone was scheduled to come out and my husband was home from work. They were already scheduled to come out so we were waiting for them. I guess he was outside so they called. I think they were supposed to be here at 9:30 in the morning, but they called and left a message that they were confirming. He tried to call back, like, 10 minutes later, and got an answering machine. They never came back. Frankly, because of waiting so long and then having to reach out to them, and then losing the report, and then having them not show up, and then having them call not to confirm, but to schedule an appointment, I just did not contact them again. They never contacted me about rescheduling. The first guy was punctual, the second guy was a no-show.

+ 0 moreCFW's team is excellent. They came in on the date they said they would, and were "all business". After they excavated the soil on the neighboring property 3' deep along our partition wall (not in any particular order, but...), they installed a surface system along the wall to catch surface water and a drain line to the alley, moved the neighbor's shed so they could install the custom drainage, re-pitched (graded) the neighbors' yard, added the rain gutters to the neighbors' garage, installed waterproofing membrane onto the foundation/retaining wall after removing the prior substandard waterproofing (they actually removed that old waterproofing with bristle brushes so as to make sure the wall is prepared properly for waterproofing), plus other related work. (Note that we already had french drain system in place along our neighbor's side of our partition wall) The work was completed within about 10 business days, just as Brian had anticipated. During the process, the team showed up on-time, they were quiet, dirt wasn't unnessarily "flying" all over the place, and they all seemed to work well in coordination with each other. I can't say enough about this company. They were terrific, and their price is more than reasonable for what they needed to do. Mostly, we appreciated Brian's honesty. He didn't try to "make work" or "pad" anything. He wasn't an "alarmist" like some of the other contractors who gave us quotes. He clearly knows his business. He curiously and objectively inspects the problem areas, and applies common sense to determining a solution.
Description of Work: Our 5-unit Spanish townhome building in Santa Monica was having water intrusion issues because of water drainage problems located on 2 of our neighbor's properties on the other side of our partition wall. We received MANY opinions and quotes to resolve this issue (all necessitated getting the neighbors to agree for us to work on their property and dig up their yard). Those providers said we needed far more, intrusive and extensive work costing upwards of $80k-$100k (including the need for a tractor!). Brian from California Foundation Works came in and provided us the most logical explanation for the water intrusion issues we were having, and the most logical recommendation for fixing it. He said they could do the work over 7-10 day period, and his quote was for $11k or so. (!) Brian explained how his staff are provided on-going, in-office/warehouse training in the latests techniques related to drain and foundation repair. Long story short, Brian (who presents VERY well - which is always helpful when you need to get a neighbor to agree to getting their property dug up) met with the neighbors with us in advance of scheduling the work. He explained to them that the drainage issues were on their property, what was necessary to fix them (which included removing and replacing a neighbor's shed), how long it would take, etc.. He worked with the neighbors providing the paperwork they needed to sign, etc. (Although our HOA paid for this work, the neighbors also had to agree to allow CFW to install seamless rain gutters and drains on their garage.) Brian's efforts helped us remain friendly with our neighbors, and to be able to proceed with the work.

+ -1 moreCalifornia Foundation Works are the best! When I bought my house in '12 I had some serious, though not catastrophic foundation issues that needed to be addressed. I have a 2-story single-family home w/an attached garage. There's a crawlspace underneath the entire house except the garage. When I finally decided to have them looked at in '14, I contacted California Foundation Works through Angie's List. They came out and gave me a very fair price. The work cost $6,000. However, their inspector Brian advised me that I should have the garage walls inspected as well to determine if they're bolted down or not. He gave me a quote for a best case to worst case scenario, so I told him, I'd address it in '15 as I couldn't afford the added cost at this time. So they came out last month and were able assess my garage walls for even less than the best case scenario! $300 later, I feel confident my house is as earthquake ready as it reasonably can be and all thanks to California Foundation Works.

+ -1 moreCame out and took a look at the entire foundation. Another contractor had looked at it and advised there were a number of cracks and also needed to be bolted down. California Foundation Works advised there was only the one crack, estimated it to be a $500 job. Upon doing the job determined it did not need as much fixative as estimated and lowered the cost to $350. Can't ask for anything more than that. He could have left it at the estimate and pocketed additional profit.

+ 0 moreAt the initial assessment in early January, Brian was very professional and knowledgable. He advised us as to what we should be worrying about versus not, and where there were areas of concern, he suggested multiple ways of addressing the problem, including a more economical fix. He was also very helpful in helping us come up with a plan to address a clogged storm drain behind our retaining wall. We decided based on our experience with him to have him come again in February when we were in the process of tearing up the deck so that he could provide a quote for clearing/repairing the storm drain as well as making changes to the drainage system of the deck to better facilitate actually draining the water away. (The current system simply wasn't not effective.) He provided us a quote and a team from California Foundation Works was onsite and making the repairs in less than a week. The work took 2 days. They were able to clear out the storm drain, install new deck drains, and lay a new concrete slab that better assisted in draining the water. I can't address the competitiveness of the pricing because I did not seek out other bids. But I can say that, at all stages, Brian was always very sensitive to finding the most const-effective solution to the problem, and I very much appreciated that.
Description of Work: They cleaned, removed roots, and hydrojetted a severely clogged storm drain; they provided demolition and replacement of a 25 sq ft concrete slab beneath a deck; they provided and installed deck drains that connected to the storm drain; and they also cut a concrete sidewalk near our house to facilitate drainage of water away from our foundation and into a drain.

+ 0 more"I had to repair my rental property in North Hollywood as the signs inside the home were pretty obvious we had foundation problems. No one really enjoys foundation repair to their home. And, yes, your ideas of what will happen are probably true. However, California Foundation Works will walk you through each step with sanity and confidence. Upon my first meeting with California Foundation Work, Brian came out and explained the details of the work with clarity and detail. He was honest about the change that was about to happen around the perimeter of my home. Hauling of dirt, tunneling under the house and the removal of landscaping were executed with efficiency and as little damage as possible. Brian will tell you that he is available at any time regarding questions or concerns. And, he is. He addressed concerns, arrived on the site and remained calm throughout the foundation work. The construction crew foremen, Juan, provided assurance and answered any questions on site. The workers were polite and courteous in my presence and as they worked outside of my home. When the leveling of the house started, juan provided a meticulous approach, although the raising of the house (about 7 inches!) was done a few weeks ago, the 45 piers are solid and the house has not presented with any new cracks or gaps. California Foundation Works will approach you as the most important client they have. Their work ethic and thorough professional approach set them apart from other companies. Highly recommended if you have the unfortunate necessity of foundation repair."
