We got several bids, they were the lowest price and included the most for the money. We were clear that we needed to finish by a certain date, and Butel was able to write an estimate on the initial visit, while other bidders took several days just to get an estimate together. We did not select them just based on price, we also felt they were the most professional. The project manager Jason was great to work with throughout the engagement. Starting out we were not sure exactly what we wanted to do, and he was helpful with providing options. Of course we had various people doing work - demolition, tile, plumber, electrical, etc. - and we were impressed with how polite and conscientious every one of them was. They all took extreme care with our home and property, and cleaned up after themselves. When leaving, they would tell us they were leaving for the day, or that they would be back. Jason kept everything moving, and made sure we knew what was happening when. We were very happy with the quality of all the work. They were attentive down to the details, and we never felt like anyone was rushing or slapping things together. Their suggestions, such as converting the tub to a walk-in shower and reframing a window inside the shower, all turned out to have been good choices. They stayed on schedule. We had one issue - during framing someone accidentally nailed through a water line (could happen to anyone), and we came home to find water dripping from the ceiling of the room below the bathroom. Though it was after business hours, we immediately got a call back and they immediately sent the plumber over to handle it. The plumber had to cut out the ceiling to get to the water line - that, and the water damaged floor, were repaired/replaced at no cost. You learn a lot about a company from how they handle problems - business as usual is easy - and they could not have done a better job handling that incident. After all the work was done, Jason came for a final walk-through, which we really appreciated. We had a couple of little things that needed attention, and those follow-ups were taken care of. Also we asked for an additional door pull for our new shower doors, which was added without additional charge.

They gutted the bathroom, cut out a soffit that was over the shower and made a pony wall. They installed all new plumbing fixtures, tiled the shower, floor and over the bathtub, installed glass doors, a new vanity with a granite top and medicine cabinet over the toilet, moved some plumbing to accommodate the new location of the sink and also moved an electrical outlet. They also repaired some dry rot that was under the shower. The only thing we had to do was contract for a full length mirror over the vanity and on the side. Dealing with Jason, Shai, and Udeze was a pleasure. All the workers were also very pleasant to deal with. They made good suggestions. We asked them to cut a hole in the side wall after the painting had been done for a recessed medicine cabinet and to install a glass shelf over the toilet. They discovered after cutting that there was a support beam that couldn't be moved and some electrical wiring. When they went to install the glass shelf, they ran into a steel stud and were unable to do the installation. They covered up the holes and repainted with no extra charge. They did several little things such as mounting a towel bar and glass shelf on the tile and installing a towel ring as well as others and did not charge any extra. At the beginning of the job a payment schedule was developed which I thought was very fair. I would not hesitate to use them again.

We desperately needed to remodel our master bath in our condo and got quotes from two contractors which were comparable. We decided to go with Shai mainly based on the reviews on Angie's List. We had a horrible experience in the past with a contractor and our experience with Butel Construction was exactly the opposite. Shai and his crew were all extremely professional. They were patient through moments of indecision and worked carefully around our HOA's regulations. They kept the condo clean during the process and were very easy to reach and answered any questions. Shai and Jason both met us at the tile store to help shop for tiles which we appreciated. Shai kept to the contract and there were no hidden costs. There were some minor disappointments with the remodel such as not being able to install a new fan in the existing space which they told us they could at the beginning and the remodel taking a bit longer than originally proposed. However, our new bathroom is gorgeous and it is our favorite room in our home! We definitely recommend Butel Construction.

I had a very bad experience with this company about three years back. I had them start and I eventually had to let them go because of sub standard work. They had beautiful brochures. The man that came out was a really nice gentleman. The craftmanship was really not pleasant. He was not rude; he was a nice gentleman it is just that you had to pull your hairs out to have them do something right. I brought another contractor in to re-do the sub floor and other things I felt had not been done well and was told by Butrel himself they had been done up to standard and correctly. I just had a gut feeling; it did not feel right to me. I am a remodeler myself, one of those weekend warriors, and I just had a gut feeling that it was not right. This was confirmed by the contractor I brought in. I never followed up. I never did small claims. I paid my bills with them and just moved on but I was definitely extremely frustrated. It seemed like one of those scenarios where they had beautiful glossy brochures but there is really nothing behind it. The price is hard to rate because if the work would have been done correctly their price would have been find. Compared to other companies they were average, maybe a little higher but competetive. On a human interaction level the man that came I really enjoyed. He was nice I just felt like he was not knowledgeable. I would recommend that anyone considering using them would stay as far away from them as possible.

Butel Construction has been wonderful to work with. We couldn't move in until a majority of the work was completed and they completed the job on time and within budget. We didn't hire a designer and Shai (the owner) was able to help us turn our own creative vision into a reality. He was extremely honest and responsive, returning phone calls within an hour or two at the most. We LOVE our home and we will definitely hire Butel Construction again!

The representative, Jason, arrived on time. We went over the possibilities for changing a powder room into a 3/4 bath with a corner shower. Jason went over options with us, explaining the pros and cons of each. He described the work that Butel would perform, then went to his car to work up an estimate for the job. He followed up that evening with a written estimate via email. He was very pleasant to work with. We had a complication with our job that Jason was very understanding about. We already had a contractor that we hired to just upgrade the powder room, but not to redo it into a 3/4 bath. Jason explained the coordination issues that we would face having two contractors do various parts of the remodel. We decided to not complicate our lives with our present contractor, so we did not select Butel for this job. However, we do plan to call on Butel in the future for work that has not yet been contracted for.

Went well - these projects always take longer than you would like. Only complaints were that we had to check the quality on a few things and call to have them fixed (like scratched tile on the floor and leaking window). A+ for responsiveness, though, when we did raise a concern.

The principal and his supervisor were extremely professional and very responsive throughout the life cycle of the project. Suggestions for several design modifications were made and much appreciated. It was truly a pleasure working with Shai and his team! We would recommend Butel Construction to anyone in need of home improvement services.

It went great. Shai was professional and on time when he came to do the estimate. He was reliable when emailing me back the estimate. His workers were on time and did a great job. The mess remained in the bathroom. In the end it looked like I had a completely new bathroom. Also, Shai was very respectful of my budget and didn't push me to do things I couldn't afford. Shai is a pleasure to work with.

My wife and I have heard many stories from others who have gone through similar processes with other contractors, so we were mentally prepared for almost anything before the work started. As it turned out, the whole experience was as pain-free as one could hope for, especially considering the fact that we were living in our home the entire time the projects were being done. My wife and I actually looked forward to our visits from Shai during the remodel, and started to miss the activity and the visits once all the work was finished! They are all such genuinely nice people, besides being highly skilled and reliable workers.

Butel Construction was the only contractor that would come out to give us an estimate for more bathroom projects in early 2007 when big-scale construction and renovation work was much more plentiful. The principal of the company, Shai Butel-- came personally at a time that was convenient for our work schedules. We instantly appreciated his attitude and enthusiasm. Over the course of the projects, our initial instincts were borne out. Shai Butel and his teams are trustworthy, hardworking and client-oriented. They recommended reliable fixture and tile suppliers and helped us through the selection process. We actually enjoyed having them in our home and learned a great deal from their craftsmanship and knowledge of the city permitting process. We had a few frustrations owing to the DWP, but that was beyond Butel s control. I would recommend Butel Construction to one and all.

The best thing about working w/ Shai is that he is always available, and made changes all the way along, and was available to fix anything that wasn't perfect. His estimate was right in the middle of the estimates we received. He seemed to be very competent and pleasant, and he had good recommendations. All the providers he employed: plumber, tiler, glass installer, etc., did excellent work. When it was not done just the way we wanted he had them come back and fix the bit in question. He stuck to the schedule, and I paid gladly at the completion of each stage. The compensation schedule was fair and manageable.

I am very pleased with all the works that Butel Construction performed at my house. They are very professional, execute on time, within budget and offer very reasonable pricing. They contract with honest and qualified sub-contractors and they manage them directly, so that works are on schedule and as specified. They are very resourceful and clearly have a lot of experience in construction and remodeling. I found them very helpful in assessing different options (price and value) and identifying better, more effective solutions we did not think of before. Most of all, they are honest, professional and a pleasure to deal with. I will continue to use Butel construction for all my future house remodeling works and would be happy to recommend them to anyone.

My husband and I had not done any kind of termite work since we moved into this house in 1988. Somewhere in the 50 s the residents had turned the front porch into a bedroom, and when the termite inspector looked at it he informed us that the damage would require extensive carpentry/repair. We called Shai Butel to have a look at it, since he put a new roof on our house last year and we were very happy with his company at that time. Unfortunately, he showed us that the way this porch had been made into a room was totally mickey-moused; the vertical supports were built directly onto the dirt, which encouraged enough termite activity that there was basically nothing holding the walls up besides the old stucco! So Butel sat down with me at our kitchen table and we brainstormed a plan for a new room, better than the old one which he would demolish. He even figured out how to put a small bathroom in there, which is great because this house had only one bathroom up to this point! I wanted a shower in it too, and we designed a custom shower which his tile-man installed more beautifully than I would have imagined! All of the subcontractors and workers were awesome.

Shai listened to what I had in mind and gave me a detailed estimate of costs and when they would be due. We signed a contract and scheduled work 4 weeks ahead. I was concerned about possible damage to my other furnishings. Shai assured me that when the job was done he would leave my home in perfect condition. True to his word, when the job was complete, he had a cleaning crew and carpet cleaners come in and make everything shine. Living in your home during a major remodel is a trying experience and I couldn't wait for it to be over, but Shai and his crew were terrific. They came when they said they would, they took direction and did everything I asked - and Shai was an excellent manager - coordinating all the activities. His strong suit is definitely customer service. The end result was Perfection....Better then I ever dreamed it could be.

It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Shai was punctual, respectful, and extremely responsive, and his subcontractors were top notch. The project was completed by the promised time (which was more ambitious than the competing bids) and UNDER budget. The quality of the finished work was incredible, particularly the tiling.

I had a wet wall, so they came in and repaired that and also remodeled my bathroom. They do beautiful work. The workers are polite and considerate and did a great job cleaning up!!!

The job went very well, in that we are thrilled with how it turned out and Butel Construction was extremely professional and did top-notch work. We had a small issue at the onset of the job where we felt like we weren't getting the manpower that we needed/agreed on, but this was addressed after a call was made. The job did end up going 4 weeks long, but this could be due to: work over the holidays, scope creep, lack of manpower (as above) and the extensive tiling.

Shai came out to meet me at the property the next day after I called. He was very nice and prompt in turning around the quote. He was very patient with me as I asked him to revise the quote several times based on changes to the planned scope of work. In the end though, while Shai's price was competitive, we went with another contractor for our job who came in at a lower price and faster timing.

I was very pleased overall. My husband and I met with a number of contractors before committing to Shai Butel. He was very professional, well informed and reliable. I especially liked the way he would go out of his way to meet us in person if we had concerns about something, one time he even met us in the morning at the tub store to give us his input about the tile we had selected.

I work for a commercial contractor, and although I could have managed the project myself, I decided to hire a residential contractor who could focus on the project to get it done on schedule. After interviewing 3 bidders, Shai was our favorite, and we were very happy when he turned out to have the low bid. Shai was very professional throughout the project. He called almost daily with updates as to the status of the project. He gave us plenty of advance notice to make sure that materials we were supplying would be there for his installers. There was only 1 change order that we did not initiate due to a hidden, existing framing deficiency in the kitchen. The price to correct this was very fair. Every project will have its problems. Shai always notified us of problems promptly with a suggested solution at hand. There are a few punch list items open which should be completed next week. The project was extended one month due to us, but it was substantially finished on time.

After interviewing two contractors (one who never called back with a price) and another (from Angie's list) who worked on a piece of 3 x 5 scratch paper and ran for the door when I repeatedly asked for references, I contacted Shai Butel of Butel Construction. He was prompt, precise and very professional. Once the work I wanted was described Shai did a professional worksheet and gave me a complete list of references. I called a few and got tired of people singing the praises of Shai and his company, so, I hired him. Always leery of contractors, Shai's contract was precise with a payment schedule that was adhered to. Actually I had to call him to get the final billing. His workers are very congenial and professional; the finish work, tile work, drywall is perfect. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Shai assigns his project mgr to the job; he called everyday to give updates and to keep me informed. An awesome experience I wouldn't hesitate to repeat, if I could hire Ahai.

I was pleasantly surprised. He was pretty much on schedule. Shai stayed in contact at all times. He spent lots of time at the job himself supervising the contractors. The tile contractor did a fabulous job. I get lots of compliments on the bathroom. I will use Shai again when I have the living room and bedroom redone!!

Shai is very easy to work with, takes his job seriously and aims to please. I thought most of his subs were terrific! He was always available by phone, and was on site most days during the job. My only caveat is that the final touches took a long time to get to. Very common, I know, but frustrating nonetheless. I plan to use Shai again for future projects and have already recommended him to friends!

They did not show up. I called, he said they put the wrong time down and would come Monday. They did not come. I kept calling. They said he would get in touch with me. It has been 2 weeks and I have not heard from him.
