Good. Things went relatively smoothly and everyone was really happy with the results.

We needed to demo an existing bathtub in our master bedroom and install a copper bathtub. This description sounds easy but it was a challenging and sensitive job in a large home in Brentwood. They did great and did everything on schedule with a minimum of noise and mess. Great crew and excellent supervision.

Workers were professional, on time, and courteous. They did an excellent job.

Everything went great. Shai and his workers were very attentive to my specific requests and did what it took to get everything done efficiently the way I wanted it.

These guys are true professionals. Totally responsive to customers needs, reasonable rates, and high level work. Little issues will come up during any construction job, and Butel handled all of them to our satisfaction. Would recommend to anyone for remodeling or windows.

We are delighted with the workmanship of the completed project. The price was very fair and they were very responsive to our needs and requests as the project progressed. I genuinely appreciated working with Shai (the owner of Butel Construction)-- He understands that we are very busy people. He keeps things very simple. He agreed to a price up front and didn't nickel and dime us. He kept the project moving to completion on schedule and on budget. We will definitely use this contractor again the next time we have a re-modeling/construction need.

The newly remodeled bathroom is gorgeous, hands down the best room in the home (for now). Shai, the owner, was great and always responsive to calls and emails. The work took a little longer than we had anticipated but there where delays due to needed fixtures on our end and finishing request that Butel was more than willing to come out and address on multiple occasions. The bid was not the lowest; we sourced 5 different bids and Butel's was the 4th highest. With that said, we felt the most comfortable with Shai and Tom after speaking with them and reviewing their previous work. Everyone who came by from the electrician to the demo guys were extremely polite and courteous. I would highly recommend them for future projects.

Entire project could not be performed any better. Initial appointment to discuss the scope of the work and estimate was scheduled for the next business day. Tom came on time and he was extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. He gave me super competitive estimate and we scheduled the remodeling. Actually, with my permission, they started the work sooner than planned and I was very pleased. Shai, the owner of the company, came in the morning to see the kitchen and to discuss the details. It was not a huge project but it required scheduling several different professionals: electrician, granite guy, tile guy, hardware floor specialist, general contractors, painter, etc. Actually, I have never seen such organized, professional and polite group of people. Work was done to absolute perfection and on time. Every day they left the house absolutely spotless and Shai responded to all my phone calls and was scheduling everything around me. I made several changes and he was accommodating as well. Amazing experience.

I went on Angie's list in an attempt to find a good local contractor that could work on overhauling the entire interior of our home. We were expecting at the time, so needed the work to be completed quickly and efficiently too. As per the reviews on Angie's list i picked the top three scoring construction companies in my area - one of which was Butel Construction. Interestingly they were not the top most scoring company on this list, but having met with all three, we decided to work with Butel because they were easily the most professional, friendly and cost -effective of the three. We initially met with Tom who was very tuned in to what we wanted to do with the house. He even had some great suggestions that we hadn't thought of and immediately we knew we would like to work with Butel. We then met with Shai Butel who took on the project in its entirety. We have to say, Shai is a real credit to his company. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has repeatedly gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that we had everything exactly as we wanted it. He was totally hands on throughout the project and was also conscious that we were expecting, and therefore had a deadline to move into the house. The company met all expectations. Our deadlines were met, our budget was met, and most of all, the quality and professionalism of all members of this company made the process so much easier. This was a large project with many different elements that had to be fulfilled - from re-modelling an entire new kitchen, through to fitting brand new electrics and plumbing throughout the property. Shai was extremely hands on - he regularly visited the house and would inform us every day of its progress. He was also available to us on the phone 24/7 - answering all our questions and also providing us with some great suggestions regarding our re-modelling of the property. What has been really impressive to me personally, is that he still checks in a couple of months after the work has finished and has let us know that if we're unhappy with anything, he is more than happy to fix it for us. I don't normally write reviews, but felt compelled to write this one because we've been so impressed with the company, it's employees, and most of all by the workmanship on the house - all courtesy of Butel.

We needed a new front door. We made our purchase, and Butel Construction picked up the door, the hinges, the mortise lock and mortise box, and the door handles from the location where we bought the material. They hanged the door perfectly, with everything plumb and just so. The locksmith installed the lock, and reinforced the strike plate for added security. This is one of several jobs we've hired Butel Construction, and they have always done a great job for us. Shai Butel, the owner, is a very fair man to deal with, and always honors his word. We will hire Butel Construction again, I'm sure.

Butel gave us an estimate that was less than half that of other contractors. We worried about the quality, but saw that Butel had many excellent reviews from satisfied customers. In addition, all of their insurance coverage and bonding was in good shape. Butel consistently showed up just when they said they would; they never kept us waiting. They are knowledgable and experienced. They answered our questions and followed through on everything as agreed. We were surprised at their short schedule for completion, but Butel finished right on time. They passed each inspection with flying colors, even earning praise from the City Inspector on the quality of the work. Our condo complex will definitely use Butel again. We can't say enough good things about them.

I was unable to go forward with the remodel for health reasons. Butel's was the highest bid but I felt that the quality of work would be high.

We chose Butel Construction from Angie's List magazine for what was hoped to be a top notch contractor. We also reviewed Butel's website and their videos concerning their business. At first blush, this seemed ideal for our home improvement projects. We arranged for a consultant visit on 10/11/2012 to map out our needs with the expressed request to complete all items - countertops, backsplash, floor tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, cabinets, sinks and toilet - to be done before Thanksgiving. When he assessed our project needs for our 621 sq. ft. condo the consultant assured us that all work could be done in a few days, that plenty of staff was available. A contract was drawn up for the total with payment due at the start of each stage of the project. And per the contract we did pay for each stage along the way. An initial deposit of $1,000 was paid at this time to secure the contract "in good faith". We have since learned that in dealing with contracted work that payment of balance should not be paid until ALL work has been completed and satisfied. Butel Construction advertises that credit is available, "no money down" and 10% discount for using Angie' list. We were told that the 10% was applied. We did not get the 10% discount as it was not specified in the contract.. We are in the top 3% of the credit score spectrum with excellent credit. Not once was it offered to us that we could arrange for credit terms, I took off work for 5 days in anticipation of a completed job as assured by Butel. Job was not even completed weeks later for our tiny condominium area. Note that the countertop material was supplied by Butel construction while all other materials were supplied by a subcontractor of Butel. Payment for the subcontractor's material s was paid separately up front. While the quality of the materials was not a problem, the following problems occurred during the installation. These are substantial in light of the cost, quality of workmanship and aggravation we endured. We attempted to resolve complaints directly with the contractor to no avail. We have in our possession photographs of affected areas as well as emails continually sent. The following is a complete list of the problems.: · Contractor installed wood that was rotting as a supporting base for the pony wall countertop. (We have videos of the rotting wood installation). The bad wood was in the overhang portion of the pony wall. This presented a hazard as anyone could have easily gotten splinters or cuts in this exposed area. When we complained, we were told that this under base is "the way it is done in the industry". We learned from a second contractor that this supporting base was unnecessary. Butel was reluctant to remove this splintering wood until my wife adamantly protested Only then did the contractor agree to remove the rotting wood and reinstall the pony wall portion of the countertop. To complete the installation also required sanding and painting of the affected area under the lip of the pony wall countertop portion. To speed up this finishing process Butel installed molding to cover this area only to be misaligned with a prominent and visible gap. Measuring was done, and as per contract, we paid upfront for the main counter top measurement in the kitchen. Measuring was incorrect and this resulted in a poorly aligned, installed countertop. When the owner of Butel Construction visited us to see the work in progress, we complained directly to him the about the unfinished area of the countertop next to the refrigerator. This area shows a visible and glaring gap between the countertop and cabinet. His response was "your oversized refrigerator will cover up any imperfections." I am not kidding. Again, my wife vehemently protested that this be corrected. Butel's response was to have his worker install a cheap, wooden strip below the quartz countertop in a poor effort to fill in the gap space. This looked worse than the original installation and was removed. Butel Construction should have removed the poorly installed countertop, re-measured and reinstalled. They did not. In addition, while wooden strip was being installed, the worker dented our cabinet area and did a sloppy patch job. We initially contracted to have new standing cabinets built. Please note that we had given away our still functioning cabinets to Butel's workers in anticipation that new and better cabinets would be done. Butel said they would give us but did not provide picture samples of said cabinets. We asked for samples of what the cabinets would look like and be constructed of. Butel NEVER gave us this information although we repeatedly asked for samples through emails to him as well as telephone conversations. Butel's own worker overhead our telephone conversation with Butel for the information we had been requesting. He took us aside and advised us to go to Home Depot for our cabinets. Later that evening, Butel telephoned us wanting to "negotiate" (his words) credit for cabinets not yet purchased, saying that they had searched all over but could not find anything within the original cost estimate he had given us in the contract. There was nothing to negotiate. In essence he wanted a blank check to continue to find "better" cabinets for something he was yet to define and that we had no knowledge of. Measuring was done, and as per contract, we paid upfront for floor tiles before installation. Butel's worker said they incorrectly measured our floors and said we needed more tiles. Butel subcontractor arrived with additional tiles and asked for additional payment from us . We refused and referred him back Butel. Butel workers broke the wooden floor transition strip between our living room and kitchen floor. Another strip was required between the bathroom and hallway. The strips were replaced with the wrong type and color. Not only were the strips an incorrect color and fit, but they were sloppily glued in, staining areas of our wooden flooring in the bathroom area. The strip in the kitchen is loose and needs to be redone as well with the correct type of strip. Another contractor advised us not to accept this poor quality workmanship. Workers dumped waste water from the tile cuttings onto the condominium garden behind our patio. This hardened into a mass which clogs storm drains, contaminates groundwater, as well as a host of other issues. Our Homeowners Association told us we were responsible for clean up. We asked Butel Construction to clean up their mess. As of this writing, hardened mass is still in garden area. It is our understanding Butel did not use the EPA required prefabricated washout container and used the garden area as an easy access for waste dumping. We had no knowledge that Butel's dump water was actually an illegal pollutant until we spoke with another contractor. After our last complaint to Butel Construction, they sent us an "Amendment Contract" on 12/13/12. We refused to sign due to the contract's inaccuracy and omission of standing problems and limitation of the United States Freedom of Speech Act, which, by the way, is unconstitutional. Butel omitted illegal garden water dump clean-up in their Amended Contract. In fact there was no mention of any clean- up other than "clean balcony from dust." In truth, the illegal water run-off from their tile cutting stained our patio floor as well as causing garden contamination. Fixing pony wall was inaccurately identified in Amended Contract. In reality, the visible gaps need sanding as well as painting...at the very least. The Amended Contract stated they will waive the $1,000 we owe them. There is NO balance owed them! They refused to rectify the incorrectly measured and installed countertop, telling us the refrigerator would hide poor workmanship. Another contractor verified that countertop should have been removed, correct measurements done and a properly measured countertop be installed. In addition, the pony wall countertop installation has gaps, and floor strips were inaccurately installed. These were not accurately identified in Butel's Amended Contract. In the Amended Contract, Butel Construction said they would waive legal action against us and our property. For what? Not paying for an incomplete job? Not paying for cabinets never installed? They never did give a reason. In the Amended Contract, Butel Construction stated that we must "waive any legal action or complaints against Butel Construction on any sector." Butel Construction is apparently not aware of the United States Government Freedom of Speech Act, which is the Constitution's First Amendment , and is protected when spoken in honestly and truth. We would never sign a contract limiting our free speech. In closing, we suffered much poor workmanship, stress and aggravation waiting weeks for Butel Construction to even respond to our numerous complaints. We don't want anything more to do with this company. We are done. We don't have a lot of experience with contractors, but have had work done by both Home Depot and Lowes in the past and NEVER went through the poor workmanship and mental aggravation that we experienced since hiring and firing Butel Construction. We cannot in good faith recommend this company.

The guy that tame out to look at everything was Tom and he gave us some really great design ideas in terms of how to rearrange things because we were putting a lot of stuff into a small space. Their cost for cabinets was right in line with another place that we looked at that was prefab cabinets. The cabinet design was great and we are extremely happy with their service.

The re-model went very well. They were very responsive to all my requests and questions. They showed up on time. worked very neatly, and worked with me to get what I wanted. They were honest and clear with me at all times. The final result was great. The work was well executed. It was a wonderful transformation! I would definitely work with them again.

Shai and his team completely remodeled our bathroom. From demolition to installing the new bathroom, Shai and his team were wonderful to work with. We actually had about 5 bids and Shai's bid was the most reasonable and we also felt we could trust him. We are VERY picky customers with high standards, and Shai delivered a great experience. As with any project there are unforeseen issues, but Shai was there to explain the situation and walk us through resolution. In fact, they made the shower a bit too large at first, and Shai told us about it and gave us the option to keep it fix it or make it smaller. We chose to go w/ the smaller size as we have a small bathroom, but the point is that Shai was FABULOUS to work with even when mistakes happened. He was also very solution oriented and 110% committed to our satisfaction from start to finish. It's hard to find a contractor that you trust, and Shai truly exceeded our expectations. We recommend him in the highest regard.

II found Butel Construction on Angie's List. They were the third of three Angie's List contractors I contacted. The first two never got back to me. I was ready to get more estimates when Tom from Butel called. We set up an appointment. When he arrived, I told him what I had in mind, knocking out a wall and enlarging the kitchen with a complete remodeling. He listened, told why it wasn't practical (too expensive, time consuming and bad for the room architecture) and gave me a few alternatives. He told me he'd get a plan drawn up and a cost estimate for an idea I liked at no cost to me. I could take it, leave it or we could possibly come up with something else. I liked the drawn up plan and while the cost was a bit over my budget for the job it was something I could handle. Next came the contract which spelled out in detail everything in the remodeling plan we agreed to including how the job would proceed and be paid for. Demolition of the old kitchen began on July 31. Tom was around during the first couple of steps in the remodeling. After that, I dealt almost exclusively with the company owner, Shai Butel. All his workers, cabinet people, plumbers, electricians, etc., were punctual (when they said they'd be here at eight a.m. they were here at eight a.m. sharp), professional and did great work. I had no problem with anyone or any of the work they did. Shai and I got along great. I had the feeling he'd do whatever it took to make sure I was happy with the finished job which was no easy task since I'm big on getting the smallest details correct. The job took a bit longer than we'd planned. But that wasn't their fault. Things happened that I hadn't taken into consideration (for example, taking longer than I initially expected for me to choose a floor covering and getting it delivered). I'm very happy with the final result. The before and after on this kitchen are like night and day. One hears a lot of horror stories about remodeling jobs. But this was not one of them. It was a great experience. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Butel Construction for anyone's kitchen remodeling. They get an Angie's List A with a smiley face from me.

From the very beginning, everyone connected with Butel Construction was upbeat, positive, professional and trustworthy. Shai Butel responded quickly to our first call. He spent several hours with us to go over the architect's plans in great detail and make sure he understood our priorities and our budget. Shai showed up to that first meeting with many notations already on the plans and with a long list of questions so that he could create an accurate proposal. He gave us a proposal within a week, and met with us to go over it and make any changes we needed. His proposal contained a very clear statement of work, payment schedule, and calendar. By contrast, we interviewed another contractor at the same time who was very slow to return our first call, seemed to have his own ideas about what was important in our project rather than listening to ours, and was very slow to come back with a cost estimate. By the time the second contractor had called us with his estimate (3 weeks later), we had already hired Shai and were starting work. Shai showed up on the first day of demolition brimming with enthusiasm and excitement for our project, and maintained that attitude throughout the entire four months. He and his employees made it very easy for us to live in our home during the remodel by putting up temporary walls and providing anything we needed. Shai helped us find vendors, select materials, and make the many decisions that come up during a remodel. He worked very closely with the architect on our remodel, Jamie Myer, and made certain that all the work was of the highest quality. Shai's project manager, Eudez, and the other Butel Construction workers had the same great attitude. They were very professional, communicated constantly with us, cleaned up every day before they left, and were eager to help us in any way we needed. The subcontractors used by Butel Construction were excellent, including the cabinet maker, plumbers, electricians, hardwood floor installers, appliance vendors and painters. Everyone took the time to explain what they were doing, fix any problems that came up, and schedule work when it was convenient for us. We encountered the usual problems that aren't found until the walls and ceilings are opened up, but these were all handled quickly and helpfully. Whenever there was a decision to be made, Shai presented all the different options and costs very clearly, so it was easy for us to decide on the right course of action. Shai came in within budget and finished the job EARLY!! The only costs that exceeded the original budget were from jobs we added on to the project. Shai and his accounting manager were very clear in communicating the extra costs ahead of time and providing separate change orders and invoices for the extra work so that we could keep track of everything easily. Most importantly, we love the results of this remodel, and are very happy with the work done by Shai and his crew. We have a beautiful new kitchen with beautiful counters and cabinets, my husband has a great office, and one daughter finally has a big enough bedroom. The work was of consistently high quality, and anything that needed to be fixed was done so immediately. Shai and his workers and subcontractors made it easy for us to live in our house during this project, and their consistently upbeat attitude made a chaotic and difficult living situation fun! I would happily hire Butel Construction for any future jobs we have -- in fact, I wouldn't consider anyone else!

When we contacted Shai Butel, the owner of Butel construction, we had gone through the agonizing process of demolition after a catastrophic flood that gutted the bathroom and the areas around it. Basically, the entire master bedroom suite was trashed. I called Butel and Shai came out promptly to survey the damage and work with us on a plan to not only rehabilitate but renovate the bathroom, which had last undergone renovation 26 years earlier. We had much experience with contractors, and feared the worst in spite of Angie's List recommendations and our prior experience with the contractor our insurance company had sent to estimate the cost of repairs. Shai was a breath of fresh air. He came to our home wearing the same company T-shirt the rest of his employees wear, and first listened to us at length trying to figure out what we ourselves wanted. He gave us a folder with the company's credentials including copies of all the relevant licenses, insurance coverage and other things we all should check but often don't. Then he started nudging by asking questions to clarify our goals. After making measurements he asked us to wait while he put the floor plan into his computer. A day or two later he returned with a 3-dimensional mockup of the work on his laptop so we could see how it would look for our ideas to be carried out. He modified it on the spot as we discussed the implications of the work until a preliminary plan was developed. At the time Shai told us that his firm guaranteed the work. Period. We found later that he meant exactly what he said. It took months (almost 9 months) for us to do the shopping and selection of materials, fixtures, tile and other items because my wife had several operations and was unable to participate in the process for a while. Shai was patient and recommended various vendors' showrooms as possible sources without being pushy about it at all. He was understanding and helpful throughout, and although he suggested ways to do things, he always assured us that the project was ours, and we are the homeowners. And he meant it. Finally the time came for the initial construction with plumbing and construction of the shower. We wanted to remove a decorative but non-functional item here and there, but Shai pointed out that one held up the roof. He devised a way to revise a wall without endangering its load-bearing function and bought us more room in the shower. As the work progressed, most of the workers were Butel's own employees, not subcontractors, but the plumber and the cabinetmaker were subs. All the workers were clean, on time, respectful, communicated with us every step of the way. They obviously took great pride in the quality of their work and were happy to explain to us exactly what they were doing. And they cleaned up after themselves each and every day to the extent possible. Finally, after progress reports at different milestones, our bathroom with the Caesarstone countertops and tub surrounds, the glass mosaic and ceramic tiles, the fixtures and lighting were done. Shai assured us that if there was any problem, this was not the end of the story; they wanted us to be satisfied. Sure enough a few weeks later we developed a leak from the shower enclosure and called Shai, He immediately sent his foreman to assess the situation. A series of careful explorations and attempted fixes ensued, with Shai and all the others expressing their concern for us and trying to give us as much support as possible. After several weeks, the true source of the leak was found and fixed, permanently. We thought we were done with Butel Construction. A few weeks ago there was a problem with the varnish on our custom vanity cabinet, so we called Shai. He responded immediately, without making excuses, saw the problem and very quickly sent out his master cabinet finisher to correct the problem, on our schedule and for our convenience. He took special care with all aspects of the operation and the cabinets are even more beautiful than when we started. We are convinced through experience that when Shai Butel says the job is guaranteed that those are not empty words. He proved it on more than one occasion. We will cheerfully use him again and again. We don't expect flawless perfection or complete freedom from problems; we do expect a contractor to stand behind their work 100%. Butel construction fulfills that overwhelmingly.

After over 25 years in my one bed/one bath home, I realized it needed some serious refreshing. I initially thought of just repainting and recarpeting, but decided that more significant updates were called for, so I decided to interview some contractors to see what a major remodel would entail. I immediately felt very comfortable with Shai Butel, the president of Butel Construction. He was easy to talk to, and he understood what was important to me. He explained to me how the whole process would go, from start to finish and answered all of my questions in a way that made me feel that I could trust him with such a huge investment of my time, money, and living space. The project progressed as Shai described. My place was quite old, and I was prepared for some bumps along the way, and they came primarily in the form of plumbing infrastructure issues. This was not unexpected, given some prior work that had been done in the last year. Shai explained options for dealing with them as they came up (including not doing anything at all) and he made it very easy to come to an agreement on how to proceed. I really appreciated how Shai would lay out for me when I needed to make decisions on all the details that were required (on cabinets, hardware, plumbing fixtures, tile, carpet, hardwood,etc.). He gave me the right amount of time to research and choose the products I wanted to use, and gave me great leads on which vendors to use. Because it was such a big job, I decided to move out while the work was underway. For the first month I was local, but then it was easier for me to go out of state. Although I was nervous about being away while the work was ongoing, Shai assured me that he had successfully worked this way before. We kept in touch via all the usual electronic means (email, texts, phone, photos) and it worked very well. Of course, a number of things came up that needed my input, so Shai would send me a note (do you like the placement of the shower bar, what color grout in the kitchen backsplash, etc.) with pictures of options and I would choose what I wanted. This worked fine for me. When I finally got to see the finished product, I was ecstatic. The kitchen and bath were absolutely beautiful, and the crown molding and painting were so crisp and clean looking, it made the whole place look light and fresh. My brother had seen the place shortly after it was demo'd, and he could not believe how quickly and spectacularly it all came together. It really was remarkable. Shai told me that as I started to live in it there would probably be some items that needed tweaking and asked me to make a list as I came across them. I did, and he and his team were very responsive to come and make the adjustments I asked for (painting touchups, mostly). I should note that everyone that I dealt with from Shai's company was professional, respectful of my time, and extremely good at their job. A special shoutout to Eudez, the project manager, and Miguel - they were great to work with. The whole experience was amazingly positive. I had put off doing this work for a long time because of contractor horror stories I'd heard of from others who'd gone through a major remodel, so I feel very fortunate that when I finally bit the bullet I was lucky enough to find Shai and Butel Construction through Angie's List. I would absolutely use them again, and have already recommended them to other friends.

This was the first re-model we did in our house, and it was a great experience. We worked with Shai, and he was a great help from start to finish. He is easygoing, understood what we wanted from the project, and was always available to answer any questions we had along the way - which he did very well and in a clear way that we could easily understand. The quality of the finished room is just great, and looks exactly like we imagined. Along the way there were a couple of minor bumps in the road. Most of these were due to changes we decided upon mid-project - for example, we decided that we wanted a different cabinet design after the originals were already installed. Butel handled these situations with the utmost professionalism, making sure that we were happy with the end result, and comfortable with the entire process, and any additional cost was fair and agreed upon beforehand. I would highly recommend Butel, and will call them for our next remodel project.

Butel Construction was a great company to work with, we were completely satisfied with everyone involved from start to finish. The two new bathrooms look great and the quality of work is very nice. Our project was completed on time and on budget. We are happy customers!
