I’ve had a horrible experience with Brody. Sloppy work, lies and cover ups. This is a bad company. Do not hire. I wish I could give zero stars.
Description of Work: I needed an AC unit installed on my roof. As soon as it rained I had water not only coming thru the new vents but now thru my roof. The roof was new. The Brody inspector said it wasn’t them. Ha. That is laughable. Finally, after multiple visits and me having my roofer present they admitted it was them. They fixed the problem but the work was so sloppy that whenever I have anyone look at the job they laugh and tell me how badly it was done. Do not hire Brody. It’s a joke.

They do a great job. We are do for a service again. I do a maintenance contract with them and they come out and do maintenance twice a year on the heater side and then on the a/c side. I think they are fair and reasonable. They usually come when I am not around.

I have been using them for about 25 years. They are punctual, they are clean, and they are not trying to gouge people. One person comes all the time. They leave they area very clean and they put on the footies over their shoes so they don't get dirt on the floor.
Description of Work: I have a maintenance contract with them and they change out the filters and they check all the connections to make sure the fluids are flowing correctly and they do this 3 times a year.

It went smoothly from beginning to end. Ken came out to look at the job and gave us the estimate. We needed an electrical upgrade, so he referred us to an electrician. He assisted in coordinating the electrical work with the A/C installation. A week before the job was scheduled to begin, Jaime came out to go over all of the details and the schedule of work. The two technicians arrived right on time on the first day of the job. They were friendly, courteous, and communicated what they would be doing. They laid out tarps to protect the flooring and carpets. They worked with the two electricians on the first day. On the second day, they came back to complete the final hookups and tested all of the vents to be sure the air flow was correct. They cleaned up thoroughly before leaving. Throughout the job, they were both very friendly, even stopping to pet our dogs.
Description of Work: They installed a new A/C unit. We did not have one before, so it had to be matched with our existing furnace and ductwork.

Went very well. I called them in because the heat wasn't working. They correctly diagnosed that the motherboard on our heating unit was cracked and that was the source of my heating problem. They ordered a new motherboard for me and had it installed the following week. On their initial visit, I also noted that two of my outlet vents sometimes leak water when it rains. They diagnosed that problem as rain getting into the seams of the ducts. They had a crew reseal my ducts later that week. No more leaks!
Description of Work: Two services were performed: the duct work on the roof was re-sealed and the motherboard on my roof-mounted heating unit was replaced.

The techs are good, clean and respectful. The office staff in the maintenance department are a disaster. This is a tenant occupied house. I write on the maintenance contract every year that they need to call the tenant to schedule and they need to send me a copy of the service report when the call is complete. I've been writing this on the contract since 2012 - they still can't get it right! Last week they called me to schedule 2015 service. I didn't get the last service report until 2 months after the service and then it was by accident. Boy, if they could just get a service manager who cared and was competent and somebody who was organized and disciplined in the office!
Description of Work: We have an annual maintenance contract with Brody Penall and have since 2012. The techs are good. The sales department for new equipment [we have purchased a new heater and a new AC from them since 2010] is good. The maintenance service is supposed to come twice a year on the contract.

They were horrible. I had to get somebody else. I called them and I got the most horrible unit. It was a brand new one and it was so loud. They made a mess in the basement. I went down to my basement after they had done their work and water was leaking downstairs. I told them to come pick up their equipment and asked them for my remaining money back because I did not want to do business with them. They were able to get a refund. If I wasn't persistent in contacting them, I don't think they would have done that. Their boss was horrible as well. He wasn't even willing to come out and see what the men had done. The salesman was terrible. He didn't answer any of my questions and I don't think he even knew English. They were expensive.

We've been their customer for more than 6 YEARS and we have property in Beverly Park. The technician came to do routine AC maintenance yesterday and checked on everything and found out few things need to be fixed. I simply asked them how much are they to fix all those. By asking this, I think Grace Leon the office worker get offended and claimed that I gave the hard time to the technician. I never give a hard time to the Tech instead I offered him something to drink while waiting him to do his job. The reason I asked because I dont want any hidden fees afterward. This Grace Leon is very rude to customer and not helpful at all yet she has been working for 14 years with company. I never dealt with any service company that has BAD customer service and willing to fight with customer instead of trying to be nice and explain things. When I requested to talk to their manager RANDY, I was hoping that he will listen to my complain regarding his employee (Grace) instead he said I know my employee and she has been working with me for 14 years. Right there, I just stop talking and told him "Thank you for your service". I just dont want to talk and waste my time with a manager that really doesnt listen to customer instead defending his 14 years worker. This company is the worst that I ever dealt with in my life!!! There were problems from the start: zoning, thermostats and temperature levels did not work correctly and needed adjusting; airflow was never properly moderated; compressor vibrated excessively and was very noisy; rain leaked through several vents. Quality: There were far too many problems that took far too long to respond to and correct. Installation quality was inferior in that rain leaked through the inside of 4 of 7 vents entering the ceilings from the roof. The first leak occurred in December of 2010. There were 3 more visits to fix more leaks - one so bad I had 14" X 18" buckets below to catch water. Still, two 'fixed' leaks leaked again in March. It wasn't until July of 2011 that they re-sealed ALL the duct connections. And then owner Randy gave a separate one year guarantee against further leakage. The compressor needed to be replaced and installed with a different level of insulation and the entire unit needed to be supported with new springs instead of keeping the old ones. The air flow was never properly regulated; it would blow so hard you couldn't be in the room for freezing (or boiling if the heat were on) and then it would lose the heat or cool quite promptly, and this was never fully corrected. Responsiveness: They did not respond in a timely manner except at the very beginning. Throughout most of the 8 months it took till final payment, at least a week and even a month could pass without a response from Ken at Brody. For example: The compressor problem was emailed to Brody-Pennell on December 8, 2010. It took until March for a Carrier rep to come out and recommend corrective measures. These measures were not carried out until July 2011. Punctuality: People arrived on time, but it took weeks and months to effect appointments and actually get things done. Professionalism: The experience was not a good one. Polite, but non-resonsive and left the customer with a system still not working up to par. Because of lack of response, I twice asked owner Randy Gibbs for help to get problems solved. The first time, he did get reps from Carrier, the manufacturer, to come and address the compressor vibration problems. The second time (which was after I had fully paid) I asked for help about the continuing excessive airflow problems, which Ken had said were due to "the construction of the house" (which did not make sense) and that there was nothing more they could do. I never received a response from Randy. However, our current HVAC company, JW Heating and Air, resolved this problem easily, and the airflow is fine now. I highly recommend this company. 4/5/19 This is our response to the company's reply to our review: We do have a new address as of September of 2014 but this work was completed in 2010 at our previous address. Our review stands as written.

Brody Pennell hired a sub-contractor to remove the asbestos duct work. They showed up on time, did their work in a day bagging the asbestos and removing it thru an upstairs window to minimize travel through the house. They were clean and I believe they followed containment best practices to minimize spreading the asbestos in the attic. They did step on a newly installed downlight while in the attic and I did not notice it until they were gone but I decided to talk to the duct work installers when they came the next day. The duct work crew were two Brody Pennell employees. They were also prompt. The person in charge downplayed the damage to my ceiling. He blamed it on me which left me dumbfounded. The downlight was pushed back up into the ceiling and the area around the light was ready to be patched and repainted. After the duct work installers left (they seemed to be in a hurry) I noticed that the can light was pushed back down and then my son noticed a three foot long crack in his bedroom ceiling. I went up in the attic and noticed that a board was lying on top of the downlight. If the installers had done a little due diligence after I pointed out the downlight issue they could have avoided stepping on the downlight again. The installer just didn't listen. I called Brody Pennell and they sent a foreman out to look at the ceiling damage. He commented that it would be really nice if I knew whether it was the abatement guys or the installer guys who did the damage. I told him what I knew but also that it was irrelevant to me which guys did the damage because both crews were under the contract I had signed with Brody Pennell. I paid in full for the work except for a $150 diffuser that was additional to the base contract. I started receiving bills for $150 by mail and I emailed several times that I would not pay the final bill until they reimbursed me the $225 dollars my painters billed me for the ceiling patches and paint matching. (The ceiling repair cost was $225 but did not include the hassle of moving my son's desk and having more of the house messed up by construction). Finally in March 2014 the owner of Brody Pennell sent a check to me for $75 which was all I wanted. The owner is professional and honored the contract. His crew was not very professional but the fact that the owner said he was sorry for taking so long to read my emails and rectify the situation impressed me.
Description of Work: The home is a three bedroom, 2 story, single family detached structure built in 1946. Brody Pennell removed existing Asbestos duct work in attic and installed new duct work for an existing forced air heating system.

Brody-Pennell provided me with a good estimate to repair problems I was experiencing with my A/C unit. The correction of the air return system (required additional venting to be installed) and the replacement of incorrect vent covers took place without issue. They were extremely respectful of my home and prevented messes where possible and cleaned up after themselves where it was unavoidable. The replacement of the compressor occurred without incident as well. Very satisfied with the work done and with the price I was quoted. I will be using them for any future maintenance to my HVAC system.

I wasn't at all satisfied with the service. I asked them to fix the air conditioner that was freezing up.They repaired one thing but it caused something else to go wrong and flood the floor. I paid them but didn't get them to to do anymore work. I used another company altogether. So it was a waste of time and money and this was during a very long heat spell so the unit was out of order during the whole time.
Description of Work: They came to repair an air conditioning unit that was freezing up. They decided that we needed more freon. Unfortunately, immediately after they replaced the freon it began to leak all over the house because the drip pan was corroded. In the end I needed to replace the entire system so the repair that they did was useless and a waste of money.

Not trained in wall heaters although they were more than willing to start taking ours apart Pushed a completely new wall heater which it turns out we didn't need After breaking our pilot light, they referred us to a company they have worked with for years who were incredibly rude and also a bunch of salesman (when we said we wanted to get an additional estimate, he said he would never had come if he knew that) We would never use Brody again
Description of Work: We have an old school wall heater and thermostat that we wanted looked at. The thermostat didn't seem to be reading properly and basically only worked if we turned the knob up to 80 degrees. When the person from Brody came out, he started tinkering with the wall heater and took a number of pieces apart. He said that we needed an entirely new heating system put in because of a gas leak. Before we had Brody come out, we had the gas company come to our home to inspect the wall heater. They had confirmed there was no leak. The Brody person put everything back together and showed us where there was a leak. He told us the new heater would be around $1,600. We had the gas company come back out and they verified that the Brody person broke a piece of the pilot light by over tightening it and said there was now a leak even though there wasn't one beforehand. Brody seemed to be very salesman like and pushy. They did more damage and didn't fix anything. We then called another company that was awesome and they fixed what Brody broke and even showed us what was done incorrectly. We would never use Brody again.

Technician charges a basic diagnostic charge ($95.00) recommended replacement of the unit and in the event she wished to repair the unt refered her to a company that does nothing but wall heater repairs.

I hired Brody Pernell to repair a broken HVAC unit at my home today. They came out within 1 hour of the call which was very impressive. We hadn't worked with them since 2006.$310 later, the HVAC unit was repaired but the service tech was REALLY pushing us signing with them for a $300 per year agreement. They wouldn't look at my second unit without paying an additional $95. I declined. Four hours later, the HVAC unit is broken again and we have an 18 day old at home. Brand new baby with the internal temp in the house at 81 degrees. I called back and got an answering service. Their after-hours tech called me and offered ZERO warranty for their work. He said it was $210 per hour for work plus parts. He then yelled at me and used vulgarity. He was from India or someplace outside of the US although located here. In any culture, this is an unacceptable way to treat or speak to a client. I will be doing a charge back on my credit card after writing this review but I signed up for a new account and made sure that I paid to get this review live..NOBODY should do business with this company. Ever. The next day I hired another firm who came out and found that the Brody Pernell tech had left a piece of cardboard in the pump that the replaced thus causing another failure. That was removed and the unit is working well now. $171 in extra cost for a weekend visit but it was worth it. They also checked the second unit and never asked for a maintenance contract. In fact, I asked them as they earned it. I will leave their name out of this as my complaint is about how bad Brody Pernell is not to promote someone else.

We responded and replace a defectice condensate pump and charged $310.00. Our technician offered the customer to purchase a maintenance agreement in that the system had not been maintained for six years. It was explained that with the maintenance agreement he could give him 10% off the price of repairs (the customer declined). The customer then wanted him to check a second system for free which our technician explained he could not do (customer was not happy about that). However in business it would be the same a going to a restaurant and ordering a meal and expecting a second meal for free. Some time Friday evening the customer spoke to our on call emergencey technician, he listened to the customer berate the previous technician calling him an "Indian Moron" and demanded immediate service under the warranty. Our technician explained it is clearly written on the work order that the warranty is for 1 year during normal business hours. At this point in my estimation the conversation got heated on both parties part. People do not like their ethnicity challenged and statement like how mainy Indians does your company have in inappropriate. Fact the gentleman he was talking to decended from Armenia, has been an American citizen for 40 years and an employee of our company for 25 years. Upon learning of this incident on Monday, 4/23 I left a voice message at the customers home to date I have received NO response (4/25 @ 3:20 PM).
