I came to Angie's list to look for someone to do some stucco work on my house after another company, i felt, tried to rip me off. B&J Plastering was a breath of fresh air after that experience and he definitely lived up to his ranking here on Angie's List. For what the other company said i needed major work done, he said only patchwork was required. I found him to be honest and very easy to deal with. He did a great job and completely fulfilled the contract. I heartily recommend him for stucco work.

He did an excellent job and patched some cracks nearby that likely caused by the same truck. Plan to have him come back to do more work on another part of our house.

I obtained proposals from two of Angie's List's highest-ranked stucco tradesmen--Brad (B&J Plastering) and a second bidder. Both bidders had excellent reputations and clearly knew their stuff. I went with Brad since his bid came in significantly lower and his reviews were so strong. I'm out of town on business a fair amount, so I suggested that Brad proceed with the job while I was away. Brad proceeded with the work, sending me iPhone photos each evening to keep me up on the progress of the job. It turned out that some of the garage's stucco was in worse shape than Brad had initially thought, so Brad ended up doing work beyond the scope of the contract--but he didn't complain and he didn't charge me extra for that (even though I had told him I would pay extra if the work proved to be more than he expected). Brad finished the work while I was still out of town. I asked Brad if he wanted me to mail a check before my return, but he said he'd rather show me the work in person. When I got back to town, I inspected the work--and was really impressed. The garage looks great--indeed, the garage now looks better than my stucco house. (Perhaps I will move into the garage.) Brad came back a few days later to proudly show off his excellent work. He told me to get in touch with him if there were any problems, but I don't expect any. Any time going forward that I need exterior stucco work or interior drywall repairs, I'm going to call Brad. I would recommend him without reservation to friends or family members. Brad is a no-nonsense, no-B.S. tradesman. If you're looking for a slick salesman/smooth-talking contractor, then go elsewhere. But if you want an honest, conscientious expert in stucco who will explain what needs to be done and then get the job done right, get in touch with Brad.
Description of Work: Brad (B&J Plastering) did extensive work on my two-car 1950s-era garage's stucco. On one wall, a thick layer of paint and stucco had come separated from an inner layer of stucco; on the back wall, there was a big crack that was causing water to leak in during heavy rains; and a third wall, the stucco was in bad shape near the foundation. Brad fixed all of that. He also filled in a bunch of holes along one side of my house and did minor repairs to the house's stucco in a few other places.

It went excellently. We'd talked with other people who told us how difficult it is to match smooth stucco repairs, due to color and the changes that take place over the years (thus, the new may not match the old even if they start as the same color). Also, there's a problem of "burn" marks where the old and new meet. They recommended painting. We didn't want to do that, since our whole (handsome) house is the same smooth stucco. Thus, I wanted a stucco expert and called Brad, based on his Angie's List reviews. He came by the next day and we looked at the wall. Essentially, the stucco had flaked off the underlying cement blocks along much of the top (about 15') and was also loose on much of the face of the wall (about 4' high). Brad advised me of the same problems that other people had noted, but I said I figured i could always paint and I'd like to take a shot at matching the stucco first. He showed me color options and we agreed to proceed. He and his colleagues Greg and Mike came out the next week and started chipping away. As they progressed Brad found that so much stucco had come loose that they decided to chip off all the old stucco and make a fresh start, which eliminated most of the color problems right there. I felt really grateful for this and wondered if I should pay him some more, but he firmly declared to stay by his original price. They finished the job in two half-days (drying time between) and it looks as good as new. It's also a more than adequate match to the rest of the house. Brad also added a cement layer between the stucco and cement blocks, which the builder had neglected to do. From the looks of the wall, the honesty of Brad, and the good nature of all the workers, I'm extremely pleased we went the stucco route, and I would recommend B&J highly to anyone else needing this kind of work.

Brad showed up at the house around 8:00A and finished by early-mid afternoon. By the time I looked at the work was a few days later and I already knew that the color would not match 100% but it was pretty darn close. I didn't care since we plan to have exterior painted soon anyway. I would say that other than the color not matching 100% (again, not a big deal for us) the fit and finish of Brad's work was excellent. The pattern matches the existing stucco pretty close so once painted I don't think you would know that it was repaired unless I told you. I didn't actually meet Brad but only communicated via email and phone but my wife met him and commented that he seemed like a nice guy.
Description of Work: Contacted Brad via Angie's List and he replied to me soon. We sent a few email back and forth and then his co-worker (forgot his name) came out to give an estimate and try to color match the stucco. I got a quote from Brad soon and then we decided on a date for him to complete the work. We had a new electrical panel installed and I also needed some work done for the exhaust for our range hood. The new panel was larger than our old one so the electrician had to make a larger cutout to fit the new panel. The gap all the way around the panel was approximately 2-3 inches wide so we wanted Brad to close that up so we wouldn't get any rain or bees inside the walls. I purchased a new grille for the exhaust and wire mesh to help keep the bugs out (bugs were original problem with hood). I tried to find a damper so it would close when there is no air coming out but could not find one. Maybe that part doesn't exist. Brad removed the old grille which was surrounded by existing stucco, installed the mesh and the new grille and then re-applied stucco around the grille.

Brad seemed very sincere and knowledgeable about his trade. He examined the job and concluded he would not make the repairs to the stucco because he felt that the cracks would return. He gave reasons why the stucco was cracking and explained how water causes discoloration in the stucco. I was disappointed that he chose not to take the job. A lot of Angie's list member write great reviews about Brad's services. I just assume the job and the type repairs I needed must be different from that of other members. Furthermore, they type of repairs I needed are not the type Brad was willing to tackle.

someone else did this job and i was not willing to put my reputation on the line for a job that after the owner was complaining about the discoloration of the dark brown stucco, that i would not be able to do the job to his liking. The house is on a hill and is moving. there is no way to fix his problem, the cracks will come back and then it would be MY PROBLEM. He was on time, kind and a clean person. He left my house neat and clean. It was a small job but he treated me like I was a big spending client. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I only wish I had need of more work like this. It took him less than 30 minutes.
Description of Work: Arch over doorway to kitchen had been hit when moving furniture and created a 4 inch damage. Matched the texture of my walls. Repaired the area so you wouldn't notice. The outside wall has texture, the edges rounded, and the inside of the arch is smooth. He also touched up a scratch in my drywall in the kitchen which is a smooth wall.

Despite having some initial miscommunication, I was really impressed with Brad's service and the high quality of stucco work. He was also very funny and likable, which is just icing on the cake. I highly recommend him.

Brad was top notch....he came in gave me a fair estimate....the plumbers had more wall to tear out that he wasn't going to see until the day of but he said he would try to cover it with what he quoted unless it was just too much. During the work he found pipes that had not been secured by the plumbers work and generously went and got the materials to secure them. He didn't want to close up the wall with a problem there. And the work looks great too. Highly suggest calling him if you need work done!

Overall a wonderful experience. Everything went as planned and for anyone in the middle of a remodel you know that's unheard of. He was exactly on time (AMAZING!) and performed the job as promised while working with our budget. There use to be a door going to our backyard which we removed and framed in a window. He did the stucco work and no one can tell there was ever a door there since the work he did was so seamless. Inside there use to be a closet which we removed and extended our bathroom into. He did the plastering work and just like the exterior no one can tell there was ever a closet in the hall.

The work was done very efficiently. I particularly notice how clean everything was kept.
Description of Work: B&J returned our call the same day. He came out the next day and gave us an estimate. The work we needed done was to repair the cement sleeves around 3" poles that support our patio roof. We had one sleeve which had broken pieces, the others were mainly single cracks. We also asked him to fill the crack in the patio floor. My husband was concerned about matching the color of the old concrete to the new fillings. Brad made a special trip to explain how he would match, fill and finish the repairs. The following Monday he showed up on time, did the work and cleaned every thing up. The new cement was a very close match and it was smoothed out beautifully. I certainly would recommend B & J to anyone needing this kind of repair. He explains every step and answers questions clearly.

He did an outstanding job both in quality and professionalism. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for stucco work and in fact I have done just that to a property manager that manages a number of houses in Westchester. His price is reasonable and he is on time and after he leaves you would never know that he was there because everything is put back in it's original place. He even traveled to our rental house at no extra cost to fix a broken brick. Brad is truly a man of integrity. My highest recommendation!

Brad (owner) was very responsive when I first contacted him to arrange an appointment to provide me with an estimate. Moreover, he provided the estimate in a timely manner. He estimated that the work (approximately patching a gaping hole of about 2 ft x 6 ft in my bathroom) would take about 8 hours to complete. He actually completed the work in 4 hours. Brad arrived on time on the day of the service and was very conscientious about not tracking dirt and debris to and from the bathroom. I'm natually curious when it comes to home repairs and so I spent a few minutes asking him questions about how he planned to do the work and how the work was progressing. He didn't seem put off by my questions. In fact, he was very pleasant and seemed genuinely interested in showing the work to me. Overall, the work was quite good. I refrain from giving an "A" on quality as there is a small imperfection at the baseboard. It wasn't noticeable when we examined the finished work prior to him leaving my home. However, in painting the wall myself, I found this flaw. I want to be clear in that I'm sure that if I asked Brad to come back to address the flaw, I believe that he would. He's a true professional! Also, that minor flaw is not readily noticeable and, on the whole, I am pleased with the work. An added plus is that Brad provided me with a scrap piece of the wall so that I could take the scrap to Home Depot and get a can of paint to match the existing wall color. He also gave me advice on how to finish the wall and what primer to use. Brad is a skilled and patient craftsman and I would definitely recommend his service.

I called Brad for an estimate to sand blast and replace stucco on the entire house, paint and other repairs. He was on time, very professional, easy to talk to, very knowledgable, and most of all honest. When he looked at the house he told me right off that I did not need to replace the stucco, it just needed a power wash few minor repairs and paint. Unfortunately Brad doesn't paint and do other repairs that I needed.I did not use Brad, but I will always keep him in mind for any stucco needs, and I will refer anyone who needs a stucco guy.I could see why B & J Plastering got all "A" reviews. Thanks Brad.
