Brad was on time (if not early), very kind (let me borrow his ladder overnight), and his work was impeccable. While a painter said he could do the work Brad did, I hardly believe they would have given the attention to detail that Brad gave the job. We will definitely have Brad back to the house for future work: we have a drywall project coming up!
Description of Work: Brad power washed, filled cracks and repaired stucco on the exterior of our home.

I called Brad and asked for an estimate. He came out the next day and explained how he would do the plaster work for each area. He emailed me a bid the next day and I faxed back the signed contract. He called me the following day (Monday) and scheduled the work for two days hence. He said he'd be at the house between 7 or 8 a.m. He arrived at 8:20 a.m. with an assistant. They went to work quietly, efficiently and with good humour. The job was completed around noon. I checked what they had done and remarked that it looked as though nothing had been amiss. They cleaned up after the work was done, including vacuuming the area inside the house where they were working. Brad explained what he did, how the plaster would dry, what to use to repaint the area and answered all my questions. Their work was excellent and I will keep him in mind when I have more plaster work to be done.
Description of Work: Plastered a hole in the ceiling, a section of a wall, and a corner section on the exterior of the house.

on the time, i was to be there i said between 8am-9am and that i might be out front earlier. On houses i don't usually start before 8am as people in the neighborhood are still sleeping. Sorry that you were not clear with the time. I was parked outside 7:45, I didn't knock on the door until 8:10. Thought i was being thoughtful.

I called Brad a week after he'd been at our house to fix cracks on almost every exterior wall. We noticed that one small high crack had been cleaned out but not repaired. I called Brad on Thursday afternoon and by Friday morning he had been to the house and fixed the crack, calling me afterword to let me know it was done. Brad takes his work very seriously and does an amazing job - it didn't bother me that I had to ask him to come back because we had a lot of cracks to fix, but it clearly was very important to him and he came out right away to take care of it. I appreciated his responsiveness and his high level of pride in his work. The house looks great now!
Description of Work: Brad came back to fix a small crack he had missed on a previous visit.

Brad did an excellent job fixing all of the cracks, including several I had tried to fix myself (badly) a couple years ago. He was clear about the materials he used and explained that one of them would not match the color of our stucco exactly although it would provide a better more flexible seal. At the corner of the house you can't tell it was ever open - he put in backing paper and it also looks like he used some sort of wire mesh to hold everything together before he applied the top coat of stucco. It all looks great. Brad responded very quickly to a last-minute call as we had the foundation company here and they needed to have these cracks fixed before they could continue. Brad missed only one crack where he clearly prepped it but forgot to go back to finish it. In addition he got a little over-zealous and patched down onto the concrete stem wall where the foundation company was going to epoxy the cracks and seal them with a different method so they had to undo some of his work before they could continue. But other than these minor issues he does excellent work and I'd recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Brad patched numerous areas of our exterior stucco all around our house where there were major and minor cracks and openings. For this job in particular we hired Brad to patch some areas where a foundation "curb" had been installed over the old stucco and when the curb was removed the old stucco was badly damaged. Brad fixed all of these areas, including a significant section at the corner of the house where the mud sill was exposed and the shear paneling was visible.

Sorry for the over site on the missed patch. I will fix it 9/25/09. That is the next day after I received this notice and your call. Also I thought we had to come back to patch at the foundation line after the waterproofing company was finished. I'm glad you are happy with my work. See you tomorrow.

We had a new front screen door installed and as a result there was a gap in the stucco between where the old door hung and the new door. I called Brad and he came out the next day to look at the job. After the door was hung Brad came back promptly at our scheduled appointment time and put support into the gap then plastered and stuccoed over the gap.
Description of Work: Added support, plaster, and stucco to fill in a gap between the front door and wall.

Truly a wonderful experience with Brad, his partner and his son! We cannot say enough good about the quality of the work, professionalism and their overall general great attitude! So easy to work with and very generous with their knowledge regarding plastering and preparing walls for future work. They even made sure that we were going to use the right type of venting for our dryer before they did the work. They made sure that they had everything in any room they had worked in covered to keep everything clean and after the job they cleaned up everything to our complete satisfaction. Not only that but they were fast and accurate. It was very obvious that they care and are very knowledgeable about their craft. They also did a good job matching the color of our exterior stucco. Very nice too...
Description of Work: Repair and plaster several holes throughout the house that were created by having plumbing work done: which included fairly major wall repair behind a shower area, laundry wall, cracked wall plaster above a fireplace and several other smaller holes that went clear through to the exterior of the house. Installed foam into holes in walls that were being repaired as extra precaution to keep home tight from the basement.

I was in a pinch. A large concrete pouring project was about to reach the final stage and some plaster repair was necessary on a wall adjoining a new patio. I needed someone to quickly come and do the repairs, preferably before concrete trucks came. Brad came by within an hour from my first cal and assessed and accepted the job. He was not able to do the work that day (it was his anniversary, and he still came out to give me a quote), but he came early the following monday to complete the work. I was not there when the work was actually performed, but he had to do it surrounded by the concrete crew laying rebar and preparing for the three truck pour the next day. Everything looked good as usual when the work was done. The texture of the patches matched the house very well. A small job, but well done and done quickly. As before I recommend Brad for any plaster work. You won't be disappointed, and you will get your money's worth.
Description of Work: I recently had an old deck ripped out. The process left some plaster damage to my house, mostly due to the way the deck has been attached to the house. Brad waterproofed the larger areas and then patched everything up with exterior plaster.

Brad did excellent work. In fact he went beyond what I asked for and what he bid on...repairing cracks in stucco and places where stucco had come off following 1994 Northridge hearthquake, without being asked and without additional cost. I heartly recommend him. Will use him again should the need arise.

Our house was built in 1908 and was in need of a ton of plaster work and because the house is 100 years old it is all old wood lathe and crumbly plaster. The owner owner/operator Brad was prompt, neat, friendly, knowledgeable and extremely reasonable. Every day he worked at the house he would show up on time (or would call if he thought he was going to be late) get to work without hesitation and would leave around 2:30 - 3:00 - which is one of great things about Brad, he doesn't hang out at the house all day - most of the time when I've had construction done in the past you are deluged with people going in and out all day for many, many days so you begin to feel that you have no privacy and you can't get anything done, not Brad, he's in and out, neat and quick.

I would use them again but would feel the need to keep an eye on their clean up. We had some globs of plaster dripped on an electrical box on the back wall of the house and also plaster and on the back and front lawn. But over all a very good experience.

Our plumber had to cut out an approx. 8" x 11" section of exterior stucco to make a repair, and the plasterer they recommended never called me back. I checked Angie's List and was very encouraged by B & J's excellent reviews and proximity to our neighborhood, so I emailed Brad for an estimate. He replied via email and phone that very same day, stopped by for an estimate the next day, then made the repair the day thereafter. This was by far the smoothest home repair experience I've ever had. Although our job was a small one, Brad's professionalism, courteous manner, customer service, and communication skills are qualities too rare these days and I really appreciated this level of service even for our small service request, especially at a fair price.

I called Brad and he promptly came out and gave me an estimate, warning that it might need to change once he opened the wall if the damage turned out to be worse than expected (it wasn't). He arrived first thing in the morning, and carefully prepped the rooms in which he was working (plastering is messy!). He briefed me on everything he found, explaining what he would and would not be able to so. The second day he brought with him another man to help finish the work, who was also prompt and curteous. Brad also had good advice about what primer to use after the repairs dried; water stains will continue to discolor plaster even after repairs (see the photo below.) But now the walls have been been primed and repainted you'd never know there was a problem.
Description of Work: I had a roof leak in one of the bedrooms in my house, resulting in major plaster damage to one corner. I also had several small spots of plaster damage around the house, resulting from wear and tear over decades (my house was built in 1926).

I think that the entire job went very well. Brad (B&J Plastering) always responded promptly to emails and phone calls, which I really appreciate. He also took the time to answer my questions about the job and the price of his bid calmly and methodically. When we were finally ready to do the job (I had to do some prep work first), Brad and his team showed up promptly and got the work done quickly. They did a nice job matching the color of the stucco, and fixed a lot of spots without any direction from us. His initial quote included an approximate add-on charge in case some additional work was required (additional lath installed). We did need the extra lath, and Brad's charge was right in line with his estimate. Brad really seems to have his customers' best interests in mind, and I would not hesitate to hire him again or recommend him to someone else.
Description of Work: B&J Plastering added stucco to areas under our eaves that were previously boxed by plywood. They also installed lath where needed and repaired stucco all around our home.

Last year, Brad plastered and re-stuccoed all the holes left from a repiping project. This year, the plumber had to break a bedroom wall and the cement floor to repair an old clean out pipe. Once he was done, I e-mailed Brad. As usual, Brad was quick to respond and stopped by to give me an estimate. When I mentioned that my elderly mother would be sleeping in the living room again because of the hole in her floor, he went back to his truck, got all the materials and patched the cement floor right then and there so she could sleep in her bedroom that night. I truly appreciated it. The plastering was done a few days later. I was very pleased with his work and wouldn't hesitate to call him again.

This is the 2nd time I've used Brad's services. He and the co-worker he brought to help him did a fantastic job and did it much faster than anticipated. (4 hours, I think it was.) He's a pro, he's dependable and he's easy to work with. I had to have a sliding patio door installed before he could do the work and he kept in touch with me via e-mail throughout the waiting period, which I really appreciated. He even did me the favor of applying some stucco to the bottom portion of the patio door which the door installer overlooked. (Which he pointed out to me after he was done with the job and which he did at no additional cost.) I'm a commercial property manager and I know from personal experience how hard it is to find contractors you can rely on and Brad is one of those.

Brad came out to inspect the job either on the day I called or the next day. Either way, very quickly. His quote was on par with a few others I had collected. I chose Brad because of his excellent reviews on Angie's list and because he specializes in stucco and plaster. He surprised me by being able to start work only a few days later. Rainy weather pushed the start of work by one more day but once the sun returned he and his crew (2 or 3 additional workers, depending on the day) worked nonstop for three days to finish the job. I did not see much of the work happening since I was at work during the day. Every evening I saw nice progress and absolutely no mess. Everything was neatly cleared away from all walks and driveways. Brad was always present and did not merely manage or subcontract the work. Before work started they suggested I take the window screens out as they might get damaged by flying stucco during the uncovering phase. All windows were expertly outlined with tape and covered over with heavy plastic. I found not a scratch on my new windows when the work was done, and I had already found out the hard way that it's pretty easy to scratch some paint from a new fiberglass window. At night I caught some glimpses of the process of applying new waterproof paper where it had been badly damaged during window installation. Over that a metal mesh was nailed down. Finally stucco was applied with a final texture that matches the rest of the house very well. Much better than some of the jobs I have seen done around the neighborhood. The work also came in as quoted, even though I had been warned that due to the damaged paper it may run up a bit higher. The work took nearly three full days to complete. I highly recommend Brad and his crew. They were punctual, honest, polite, clean, and very skilled at what they do. They all appeared to have been on the team for a while and worked well together. I can't speak for their skills with interior plaster and lath work, but given how things went outside, I would hire them for that type of job without hesitation.
Description of Work: The windows on my 1927 stucco covered house were recently replaced. I opted for the "new construction" installation where the stucco around the existing windows is chipped away all around each window. The old window is removed and the new one is nailed into place just as one would nail a window into a newly built structure. Stucco must be re-applied around the new window. In my case the waterproof paper behind the stucco and the reinforcing wire mesh suffered some damage during the demolition process. In order to create a continuous waterproof barrier, more stucco had to be carefully broken away to uncover some pristine waterproof paper. Before any works starts, the windows are carefully taped over with plastic. Then stucco removal. Then more paper and metal mesh are applied. Finally stucco mortar is applied. This was done for 11 newly installed windows, ranging from 2 by 3 feet to 4 by 6 feet. Similar work was performed where some pipes had been exposed for an earlier plumbing repair.

We are having windows replaced in our home and then having the house and surrounding walls painted. We called Brad from B&J Plastering (who we read rave reviews about in the Angie's List magazine) for an estimate to do patching and removal of the phantom "window". We had crazy schedules and couldn't be at the house when he came by so he actually walked around the property while talking to me on the phone. We received an estimate the next day. We wanted to start work right away, but thought it was best to wait until we had replaced the windows, just in case there was additional repair work that came from the window replacement. Brad assured us that there probably wouldn't be any damage, but if there was, he'd come back. He arrived right on time and started work right away. He explained everything he and his team were doing with the window (which I really appreciated). He finished quicker than he had anticipated and while we haven't had the windows put in yet or the exterior painted (due to the weather), his work looks incredible. I talked to Brad about a few projects that we wanted to work on in our home and he came in to take a look and gave me his take on some paint problems we were having free of charge. We will definitely give him a call when we start those projects.
Description of Work: Brad and his team were hired to patch up cracks on the outside of the house and walls for painting. We also had one of those phantom windows that we wanted removed (There was a window on the exterior of the house ,but no window in the interior. Apparently that interior window had been removed by the previous owner). He needed to removed the window and patch the exterior of the stucco house.
