Description of Work: Don't even bother to call! Made an appointment with Fred waited an hour and he never showed. Then he calls says he's not coming . Avalin Seismic Co. Fred is very unprofessional , unreliable and very rude.

Description of Work: We were HIGHLY pleased with Avalin's work. We did a seismic retrofit on our 1930 SoCal home (old homes need to get bolted to the foundation, plus all the other regular stuff). We shopped around. Avalin was right in the middle of price, but tops in quality--I don't think you want to skimp and just get lowest bid on something like this. I like the fact they have a Master Engineer planning the job (Fred) and all city permits taken care of, and a foreman and crew who have been together a long time and really know their work and how to operate as a team. Fred was great with info, and their proposal documentation and follow up docs are well beyond what other companies provided. Work took 2 days and they were always prompt and thorough. I've felt way more comfortable in our recent spate of earthquakes knowing we are bolted and secured, we weathered that 5+ richter temblor just fine. FYI this work can get you a reduced rate on Earthquake Insurance, but not on regular Homeowners insurance since that doesn't cover them. It probably helps the value of your home with potential buyers if you show them the permits and documentation, although it technically doesn't boost your value with banks etc. Great job, we were very, very happy with all aspects.

Description of Work: After removing my deck I found a small section of rot in my mudsill. Given the structural significance of the mudsill, especially in a seismic zone, I thought it would be wise to get professional advice. They came out for a (free!) estimate and confirmed what another contractor had determined; the rot was small enough that I could fix it myself by chiseling it out and replacing with a wood filler. They could have told me that the problem required a professional and charged me thousands. After all, most of us are trying to find as much work as possible these days. However, theydemonstrated that honesty and professionalism come first and for that I am very thankful.

Description of Work: Mr. Cohen drove all the way out from LA to OC, thoroughly examined my home, and gave recommendations about earthquake safety for my home. According to Mr. Cohen, my home was in pretty good condition, in terms of earthquake retrofitting, so all of this personal service was performed WITHOUT COST! I'd like to thank Mr. Cohen for his time. He called, he was on time, he was very professional and nice. Most importantly, he gave me peace of mind, I highly recommend this company.
