Horrible!

Fred came out to give me an estimate for the work. He was wonderful and helpful and very professional. I decided that we would definitely go with his company! Then he took so long to get me an estimate for the work (despite two calls telling them that we wanted to hire them but needed the estimate first) that I ended up hiring someone else. I was very sad not to have the chance to work with Fred as I was very impressed with everything except for his promptness in getting me the estimate!

The price they gave us was on the higher side. They said they would be here and were here and they were very professional. They came into the house and looked under the house and I would probably use them in the future if the price wasn?t on the higher side.

Avalin was the first quote I got and they set the bar high. They were very professional and straightforward. I was emailed a very complete package and they were available for my questions..even emailing city codes regarding my questions. The Installation started quickly and was done in two days.

It?s been a week now and I am yet to get a quote from him. I was very impressed with him and I look forward to the quote. He was very professional. He was also very honest and said that if I wanted he would give me a repair for a total estimate. He was not at all pushy, and I appreciated that.

I hired Avalin to do a foundation inspection before committing to buy a property and was pleased to find that Fred Cohen is a realist. He identified the problems and proposed a solution without trying to over engineer the project and bring my 87 year old building back to level which would have been cost prohibitive without adding significantly to the value of the building. The crew showed up when expected, completed the work without delay and cleaned up the job site at the conclusion of the work. All work passed city inspection without a problem. It doesn't get any better than that - Avalin did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to hire the company again.

Mr. Cohen was very prompt in responding to my request for an estimate. His estimate for the work was right in line with what I expected after talking to several friends who had similar work done. When Mr. Cohen did the estimate he said that he'd have his crew put screening over the foundation vents while they were doing the seismic work. This at no extra charge. All work was done over a period of two days while I was at work. When I came home after they had finished I noticed that they had not installed the screening as he said they would. When I mentioned this to Mr. Cohen he said that it was his fault in that he forgot to tell his crew to instal it. He said that he would have his crew come back out and install the screening - which they did within a few days. Remember, this was for an item that was included at no charge. This was great service. Upon the completion of the job Mr Cohen sent me a copy of the signed building permit and a letter to my insurance company certifying that the work had been completed. The company was thoroughly professional and I would not hesitate to use them again.

They did a great job. The guy was really personable. His name was Fred. They came in and did the job when they said they would with a minimum of disruption to my life. They passed inspection and everything was good.

They were helpful. They explained and took the time to answer all of my questions. I was looking for restoration of the existing windows and they only dealt with replacement of windows. They did very well with the estimate. They were very responsive.

Better than we had hoped for and definated us this service again!

Excellent--if Avalon did other types of work I would hire them for everything--I can't say enough good things about them. Fred Cohen came out and gave me an estimate, was very happy to answer my questions (and I always have a lot), to explain the difference between the old framing anchors (FA8s) and the new ones, explain in detail how the shear wall support would be handled, etc. He's excellent--quiet, patient, knowledgeable, modest, articulate, and a very nice guy. The job went exactly as planned. The men who were under the house were very nice, and took time to explain to me what they found and how the job was progressing (it took about 3 days). I crawled around the entire permeter of the house to check on things and found that it was exactly as they said, confirming the impression I had from both Fred and them that they were honest. I could also confirm the quality of the work. The only issue was that an alarm wire had somehow been damaged (this is easy to do--when the alarm company did the install, which is not the one I use now, they left wires hanging all over the place...). I called Fred and told him, and also explained that I might have been responsible, as I had crawled around as well, though I didn't think I had touched any wires. He said no worries, to get it fixed and he'd pay for it. So the alarm company came and fixed it, and Fred sent me a check immediately. I tend to be quite critical, and have high expectations of anyone who comes to work at my house. Avalon and Fred couldn't be better to work with.

I do remember that they did a good job, the price was reasonable, and they were nice to work with. don't remember how much I paid exactly.

Everyone was very polite and professional. Fred Cohen had a straight forward, no-nonsense approach which we appreciated. He provided us with current references which helped us choose him. The job was started and completed on time.

Fred Cohen came and gave me a thorough explanation of what would be involved to retrofit a house. Then he had a worker go under the house to make an assessment and followed up by sending me a thorough estimate at a very good price. The work began and finished on time. Fred and his on site supervisor were very polite, soft-spoken and totally professional. I recommend them and, of course, would use them again.

Our house was built in 1912 and had not been retrofitted. Fred and his crew were punctual, explained the process, obtained the permits, did an excellent job, excellent cleanup, and followed up with a copy of the inspection report. The price was reasonable and the job was completed quickly. A couple of years later, I called Fred and asked him to come out and inspect the foundation again. As I recall, he did this without charge. I would recommend them.

As I recall, they were excellent. They provided a good bid and did the work on time. They also cleaned up after themselves. If I ever needed to, I would hire them again.

Fred Cohen is very good. His folks are clean and they show up on time. They do the work they promise. If needed, I would use them again.

When I first called Fred was really low key on the phone. I got nervous because I am not low key about hiring people. He came out and he was so casual that I was still nervous. But then emailed me such an incredibly thorough proposal that I was floored. And this was FREE. Others had told me over the phone that they were going to charge me 100 bucks for the estimate. From the moment the crew showed up, they were awesome. They seismically bolted and retrofit my old, old house. They took care doing the job like I would take care bolting my own house. They put in more posts and even moved some because they were in the wrong place. This is not a group of guys who are about phoning it in and cashing checks. They WANT the job done right. I was at home that week and had the opportunity to watch and listen to them beneath my floors.....I felt proud of myself for selecting such a good company from a website. When it was done I called Fred because I was confused about the different techniques - sometimes there was a bolt, sometimes a plate. Fred came back out and looked at stuff without attitude or pressure. I crawled under the house and checked the work. Then HE crawled under the house and checked EVERY bolt. He came out and said he wanted them to come back and put in a washer. He could have easily let it go. This was in a back corner that you know an inspector was NEVER gonna go to. I was just impressed with people who actually cared about things being done correctly. Top notch.
