After getting quotes from 3 different contractors for earthquake bolt and brace program, I'm very happy we've decided to complete it with Avalin. From the very first meeting, they came across prepared, curious and knowledgeable. Their quote was not the lowest, but not the highest. Work was completed on time and communication between the office and us was prompt. When Avalin came by to explain their process to me and look at the house, they made a lot of sense. They weren't trying to pull the wool over my eyes and presented the idea in a reasonable way. The person who gave me the consultation was likeable, knowledgeable and treated me with respect. (I'm a younger looking female. This doesn't always happen with construction estimates and I actually kind of know what I'm talking about....) Based on this company's "reasonableness" I decided I might as well go ahead and make the investment to bolt the foundation. They were professional, reasonable and ontime. I really appreciated their approach and would hire them again if needed.

I used Fred from Avalin several years ago to retrofit my duplex: foundation braced and bolted for seismic retrofitting. They did an amazing job. While it was not cheap, he was the least expensive (with the best reviews/ratings) of the few companies that actually specialize in this work. The only thing I had to do was pay which I believe was in 3 installments: a down payment, 1/2 way through and then when they where done and the permits were signed off by the city. I cannot recommend them highly enough. You will NOT be disappointed when you hire them!

By all indications they did a good job. They were easy to work with, professional and thorough. I had gotten 2 other bids and it seemed like they had a fair price. I would not hesitate to recommend Avalin.

Contractor Fred Cohen communicated the procedures well and was knowledgeable of the California EBB Program; Avalin's contract was comprehensive and clear. Crew was professional, completed the work over two days, and cleaned up each day with little impact. Won't know until the next "shaker" if the job was successful but confident in the integrity of the materials and the installation to give my house added stability.

The service was great, punctual, communicative, and they handled all the permits and inspections. They got way back into the darkest corners of our crawlspace to make sure the work was thorough. I would definitely recommend them to others.

We were delighted with their work. They proposed a more comprehensive retrofit than any of the other 3 estimators, yet their bid was the lowest cost by far. They specialize in earthquake retrofits and they have been doing this for very long time. They got the job done quickly and did a great job. I called regarding a courtyard cinder block wall that has some movement issues. They gave me their professional opinion and advice and explained in detail the issues I was facing with the wall. It's nice to talk to someone who knows what they are actually talking about.

The work went very smoothly. Avalin's owner Fred showed up and went through the work that was to be completed. Their bid was very competitive. The work was done on a rental property that I don't live at. Since the men did not need to go inside any of the units and the building was a some distance from me, I only showed up for one day of the work. Avalin received from the city the necessary permits and finished the job in 3-4 days. I was there for the city's inspection. The city inspector did not go under the crawl space to view the work, but Avalin's representative had plans and walked him through what they did. Won't really know how the work completed does until there is an earthquake, but I feel confident that Avalin knows their stuff and has made my building safer.

Avalin Design Construction did an incredible job replacing and reinforcing the foundation on our home. This was an enormous project as our foundation was extremely weak (home in Beverly Hills was built in 1939 and the soil is apparently pretty terrible in this area). Fred did amazing work and the entire project was timely, professional and very well done.

It seemed to go very well and only took one full day to do the job. They were working underneath the house so can't really say how it all went; however, they cleaned up afterwards well and took pictures of the anchors they installed under our house.

Fred Cohen the owner came out and talked with me about the work I wanted done and explained the process to me and later emailed me a quote. I must point out that I did not shop around for price but consider the price appropriate for the amount of work that was performed . A crew of three his employees came out to perform the work which took fore days complete. The crew came on time each morning. As I had done some research on the subject of cripple wall reinforcement before hiring someone, I knew what a proper job should look like. The crew from Avalin did an excellent job, very detail oriented. I am completely satisfied with the work performed and can't say that I have anything to criticize about the whole process. I would have no hesitation to recommend Avalin Design Construction Company to my friends.

Their work was neat, they were punctual, professional and efficient as well as courteous within their work area. We are satisfied with their execution of the work and after a minor tremor recently, the house didn't seem tremble as much.
