 + -1 moreWhen we called, he came out that day and gave an estimate. He gave a ball park figure. The job ended up costing less. He repaired the garage door. It was bent. We called another company and they said it wasn't fixable. He was able to fix it and strengthen it. He was a real gentleman. We also discovered that he's a handyman.

 + 0 moreArne is great. He is friendly and professional and performs great work. My house was built in 1885. Dealing with an old historic home can be a challenge, but Arne was prepared for it. He installed a top of the line steel section door made to look like a wood carriage house door. The door was oversized and had tinted windows. Custom welding helped to make the rails very heavy duty and secure. Rebuilding of the wood frame to the garage was required due to rot. The door looks amazing and works perfectly.

Arne gave me a quote, which was less than another I found on Angie's list. I decided to go with him. He was easy to get in touch with and when I did leave a message, he returned my calls promptly. He removed my old garage door, and assembled the new garage door, which looks great. I'm so pleased!
Description of Work: Arne demounted and hauled my old garage door. He was extremely careful as he backed his truck to position it under the old garage door and have it hauled away. He assembled a 15 foot by 7 foot garage door and installed the T-lock. He explained how I should maintain all movable parts and said I could call him for any concerns. He did not rush as he assembled the garage door and he is organized. He gave the best estimate and was easy to contact. He retuned all calls, but almost always, answered his phone. He was able to accommodate my schedule. I'm so glad I found Arne!

 + -1 moreArne arrived early at our home, and he gave us all the information we needed in a professional and courteous manner. Since he gave us a reasonable estimate for the cost to install new springs, we asked him on the spot to do this work. His quote for replacing two springs was fifty-some dollars less than what a bigger name garage door specialist would have charged us. We're very happy with the amount charged and how quickly he installed new springs. The door feels so much more balanced than prior to spring replacement. We need some time to decide what kind of new garage door opener to get installed. Arne did not pressure us to do this right away, but respected our decision to first handle the springs problem and then get back to him on the garage door opener choice. For now, however, our immediate problem (broken springs) is solved. We're pleased with Arne's excellent service. We're pleased with how much money we saved, too. We will definitely phone him for help in the future!

He returned the following day with a new part, discovered the root of the problem, and fixed it within 25 minutes. If needed, will definitely call on him again.

 + -1 moreOur garage door opener malfunctioned at the beginning part of January, 2013. Our garage door never worked right and we have always suspected the door was too old and too heavy. We called Arne due to his great rating on Angie's list. Arne showed up and replaced the broken part quickly and charged us less than if we ordered the part online and replaced it ourselves! Since we were worried about the weight of the door, we asked Arne to quote us for a new door. He looked at our mountings and explained the door was mounted improperly and with wrong kind springs, why explains why our door always slammed itself against the door jam. We set up a time for him to come back later (he had to go get the brackets and we had plans) to remount the door. Now, the door doesn't slam itself again the door jam and is absolutely quiet! And Arne gives arrival updates before he arrives at the house, allowing us to know exactly when we need to be home and open the door for him. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

He aligned and mounted the garage door opener motor with the door and then mounted it along with the rail for the chain. He also installed the safety sensor at the bottom of the door way. He showed me how to make any adjustments to the opener and how to disconect if necessary.

He is also very honest (he initially misquoted the price of the new doors, but stuck to his bid even though it left him a very low profit margin). He is a good communicator and a very likable person. He takes great pride in his work. He is efficient and does it right the first time. Many of our neighbors & friends have complimented our attractive new doors. The doors work beautifully, and Arne came by a few months later to oil them and to make certain everything was still working well. My husband and I, as well as our general contractor, were thankful to have such a knowledgable and skilled person who was willing to take on the challenges of our difficult garage door job and do it right.
Description of Work: My husband and I were in the middle of a major construction project that included the addition of more beams to strengthen the structure of our garage. Our general contractor told us we needed to hire a garage door specialist to remove the garage doors, the rails, and the motors. The doors and mechanisms would later need to be reinstalled at a different height and repositioned around a new beam. I called a garage door company I had previously worked with (also from Angie's List), but the owner refused the job due to the complexity of the installation. I again turned to Angie's List and based on reviews decided to call Arne's Garage Doors. That was a good decision. Arne came the same day to look at the job. He discussed all of the challenges with our general contractor, and then very clearly explained how he would accopmlish this difficult task. Both the contractor and I were impressed with Arne's quick grasp of all of the problems and with the solutions he proposed. I hired him on the spot. Since our old doors were mismatched and unattractive, I asked Arne to show us samples of new doors that would match the architecture of the house. He gave us recommendations and told us where we could see garages where these doors had been installed. He made his recommendation on the basis of the quality of the product as well as its appropriateness for our home. Arne was very flexible in coordinating the removal and replacement of the doors with our general contractor. Arne removed our 2 old garage doors and replaced them with 2 very attractive new doors. He repaired one door opener and replaced a very old one. He took very precise measusrements to make certain that the new doors, rails, and openers would fit with the new configuration of the garage. Everything fell into place perfectly.

 + -1 moreI found Arne on Angie's List & based on past reviews, decided to have him come give me an estimate for a new garage door. He turned up at the agreed time & talked us through our options. He wasn't trying to sell us the most expensive door, just the one which would be best for our requirements. I instantly liked Arne, & trusted him. He quoted $700 for the door, & gave us the choice of liftmasters. We went for the $445 one. There was also an additional cost of $175 for the vinyl back installation. We picked the door in the color we wanted & arranged for Arne to come back later in the week & complete the job. We didn't bother seeking alternate estimates as the price was fair, & Arne was professional & personable. Arne turned up on time to do the job, & we left him to it. Everything was completed within the day as discussed.He cleaned up after himself & we were very pleased with the results. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Arne, he's a really nice guy & is very honest & trustworthy.

 + -1 moreMy garage door didn't open all the way after I had used the garage door remote control in my car. I backed into and damaged the lower panel. I contacted Arne and he arrived that day and fixed the door to the point where I could open and close it. Arne attempted to locate just the lower panel, but quickly found out that it was no longer manufactured. I ended up having Arne replace the entire door. He was great, punctual, and kept me updated on everything related to the search for the lower panel. He came when he said he would and his work was clean and his prices were reasonable.

 + -1 moreArne just left after having installed a new garage door opener in the house we just closed escrow on. He arrived a few minutes before our scheduled time, inspected the existing opener and recommended replacing it, but was in no way pushy about it. In fact, I had already decided we needed a new opener since the existing one was, shall we say, "vintage." He had everything with him necessary to complete the installation. He was appropriately concerned about both the functionality as well as the aesthetics, running the necessary wires in the most inconspicuous way possible. He worked quickly, tested the opener and then gave me a brief overview of its features and recommended maintenance. He completed the job in less than 2 hours and his price was, I thought, quite reasonable. I will defiinitely use Arne's Garage Doors again if the need arises and have no hesitation in recommending the company to others.

Description of Work: I came home today and noticed my garage door was not working correctly. The door was of the track on one side and I was unable to close the door for the night. Once again, Angie's list comes through! I found Arnes Garage Door within seconds of searching. I spoke with Arnes, and he came over in 20 minutes! Keep in mind, this was at 5:30 pm today. Most businesses would be closed and we would be out of luck for same day service, Arnes, inspected the door and stated he could repair the problem.Hhe pointed out more damage to the support portion of the garage door than I knew about and I greatly appreciated that.Wwithin 30 minutes, our door was in working order again. He charged me a fair price of $65.00 for same day service and repair.

 + -1 moreSince October 2011 we've had problems with the tension bar on our large wooden garage door. This is a long rod that stretches the width of the door at the top whose purpose is to keep the center of the door where the door opener connects to the door straight instead of bowing down due to weight. The bar on the door is probably close to "original equipment" on a house that is 40 years old so rust and age has taken its toll. We had another company out in October and seemed to answer the problem, but it came up again last Sunday (1/8/2012). After seeing Arne's listed as one of the best Contractors in Angie's List book I decided to give him a call. Even though he normally does not work Sunday he was out and about and stopped by not long after I called. He jury-rigged a temporary solution and indicated that the large garage door itself was in good shape an the hinges/hardware was also fine so replacement of this tension rod was all that was needed. He returned Wednesday 1/11/2011 with a new bar, reinforced the mounting brackets and now the door opens and closes smoothly and without bowing when open. Arne was professional, knowledgeable, honest, and reasonably priced - all in all an EXCELLENT experience. He belongs on "The Best" list!!

I selected Arne's because he offered a slightly better quote and he was the one that answered my call, gave me the estimate and installed the door, there was no others to deal with. i felt that if i had any problem in the door that he would honor his workmanship. He completely delivered on everything he promised.
Description of Work: I had a double car insulated roll up garage door installed with opener. He took the added time to adjust for a header that was slightly bowed to insure a good fit. the exiting door was not standard but he ordered the correct size from manufacturer.

 + -1 moreLeaving for work one day we discovered our garage door would not close all the way. After checking for obvious obstructions we released the opener and wedged it shut. I called Arnes when I got to work and we agreed to meet at my house in the afternoon. I got delayed a few minutes at work and on the way home he called to check on the appointment. I apologized (I do hate to keep people waiting) and he said he would wait the 20 min until I got home. In the meantime my dogwalker arrived and let him in the garage. Even before i got home he had diagnosed the problem and called to say he did not have the part, but we arranged to meet back a couple of days later. He said it was a common part to break on my Liftmaster opener. When I asked if I should just replace the opener instead of fixing he said it was a good opener and didn't see any reason to replace it at over $300 instead of a $150 repair. I also asked him to change the old wall controller in the garage. I don't know if he made further adjustments or if it had been on the verge of breaking for awhile- the door runs so much smoother now than it has the two years we've had our house! He said he gets his business by word of mouth and angie's list. I can understand why he has a 100%A rating!

A very peasant experience all the way....In the selection, ordering and installation....not only that ,but he really cared that the work was done and done well....to the point where he came back a couple of weeks later to make sure the doors were working and and the springs/motor had settled in and didn't need adjustment. THEN a year later he came back to check again. The doors we had selected were a new product for him and he wanted to see how they held up...very well. He has come by once again for a look and while here he greased the tracks and left a can for me to keep it in good working order. So over all the experience could not have been better...and I write now because I recently joined Angie's list and wanted to give him a good review. jh
