ANR was very responsive in sending a representative over to look at damage. Because of impending rain, it was agreed to have a temporary tarp placed. The representative left after looking at damage and stated that they would email me with an esitmate of the repair and would send me a contract for the tarp. Never got estimate for repairs, but did get by email an agreement for the tarp(no firm price on contract for tarp).....agreed to tarp....upon arrival(one day before anticipated rain) was told tarp would cost $950 and that a portion(would not commit to what portion) would be credited towards repair if ANR did repair......Agreed and paid for tarp which was then placed.....The tarp basically covered the hole that the dormer vent used to be(12 inches x 25 inches)....Still no estimate was provided for the repair.....About a week later, got a call about estimate....was offered to do repair for $2400....later readjusted to $1900 with a 50% credit from tarp......My insurance adjuster estimated repairs to be about $2000 including tarp an espressed amazement on the $950 for the tarp job....Got several estimates from other roofers and all expressed the same amazement on the charge of $950 for the tiny tarp job.....Other estimates for the roof repairs where way lower than ANR's $1900, so went with another contractor for the eventual repair...... In summary, felt was way over charged for the tarp job....felt ANR took advantage of the situation....also, took weeks to finally get an estimate for the repairs and once got estimate, was way above estimate that other competitors offered as well as what the insurance adjuster estimated....
Description of Work: My roof sustained some damage from a recent windstorm.....essentially the winds blew off a dormer roof vent and some clay tiles....the blown off vent left a 12" x 25" uncovered vent hole in my roof.....ANR was called based on previous reviews on Angie's list....Because of impending rain, and inability to schedule repair work prior to rain, ANR offered to place a tarp over the vent hole to temporize before repairs can be made....Because of the impending rain, I agreed to tarp while awaiting repair to be scheduled.

From the beginning communication with the company was a problem since they did not respond quickly to phone calls. Once I discovered their website and submitted an online request they responded. 2 representatives came to inspect the roof at the agreed upon time and Gerry was to give me a written estimate in a day or two, which was right before Christmas. Gerry was very professional during the inspection and answered my questions. He gave me a packet of information describing the type of materials they would use. They said they would honor the coupon for Angies's list members and would find out if there was also a senior discount that might be applied also. However, I emailed Gerry on 12/29/12 because I had not received the written estimate. He confirmed my email address and stated that he had emailed it but would resend. I received the email with the estimate that day; however, he not included the list of local references I had requested. Also I noticed a few omissions on the estimate and called Gerry to discuss. Gerry acknowledged the omissions and said he would correct them but would have to talk to the owner about the additional senior discount. Even with the discounts, the price quoted was the highest of several estimates I received and contingent upon payment in cash. I ultimately chose a different roofing company and notified Gerry of my decision.
Description of Work: I called the company to request an estimate to get my roof repaired or replaced after damage from severe wind storms. The estimate was for a single family residence with a pitched roof using composite shingles. They were also to replace the PVC gutters.

The first time they came out, they did not have a 2-story ladder, although I had specifically told them one would be needed when I made the appointment. I agreed to set another appointment, but the times they suggested were all convenient for them but very inconvenient for me. When we finally managed to reschedule, I waited for them to arrive. About 45 minutes after they were supposed to be there, I saw they had left a message saying they had been there and knocked but had not been let in. They could not possibly have been at the right address because I was waiting for them the entire time.
Description of Work: I asked them to come out and give me an estimate to repair a roof leak. I explained that the building was 2 stories, so they would need a 2-story ladder.

We were experieincing leakage through the roof of a rental unit. ANR's estimator told us that the roof was near the end of its service life and should be replaced. We had them replace the roof. The wind storm on Nov 30/Dec 1 rolled the roof off of a storage building. We called ANR, and they quickly assessed the situation, provided and estimate and completed the job before next storm. Both jobs were completed quickly and the job sites were thoroughly cleaned up before they left. We now have two new roofs that we should not have to worry about for years. We will be sure to call ANR if we have any more roofing problems.

We have had problems and problems with them. After they did the work on the roof, it rained. It rained in my house. When I called them about it, they refused to believe me. They said they did not see a problem even after I sent them pictures . They also did not replace something on my patio correctly. They refuse to come out and correct the problems that we have.

Response from ANR Roofing
Hi Angies list members thanks again for the overwhelming response! We were hired to replace the roof on her deck and to add a glass enclosure to the deck as well. We went ahead and did the work. Once the job was completed she called us to say it was leaking. The roof that was installed was a PVC membrane and we explained to her that it was very unlikely that the leak was coming from the deck. She has a tile roof that is not in very good shape so we told her that the leak may be coming from there. We then proceeded to go to her home on several occasions. We did some troubleshooting and out of courtesy we patched the roof and found the source of the leaks. Keep in mind that the extra work done was not part of the original scope of work. The roof is now fixed and does not leak. We always aim to keep your best interest in mind even when we know we are right. The old adage "the customer is always right" applies here, any other contractor would have just left and not come back it was not in our scope of work.

They did a great job. They were very professional. The work was done quickly. They were clean and efficient. They cleaned up afterwards. I had no complaints or no problems. I didn't have any issues with their responsiveness. I didn't ask them any questions and they didn't get back to me about anything. I assume that it would be good if that was an issue.

I can't say enough good things about ANR. They have a commitment to Eagle Rock, and it shows.I first thought I might need a new roof last March, and I had Eli out to give a quote. He provided the quote, but I did not have the cash flow at the time for the project. Eli followed up about every 3 weeks--but over the summer I just wanted to wait until fall. Fast forward to October of this year, and I decided now was the time to do this project. I asked 3 highly rated roofing contractors to bid. Eli came back out. I got the other bids right away, but had not heard from ANR after a few days. I was ready to decide that day--I gave their office one more call and said I needed to know today and unfortunately I would probably choose on of the other roofers. Andy, the president of the company, came on the phone and said he would be right out. Within an hour, he was on top of my roof taking measurements, explaining to me his contributions to local Eagle Rock civic events, and promising me he would take care of a neighbor with a fantastic deal. The same day I received the proposal. It was the middle of the 3--but included plenty of extras such as repairing poorly designed gutters and using an Energy Star cool roof that would entitle me to a DWP rebate. The best part about the bid, was that they were able to start right away. I felt very comfortable after getting all my questions answered from the president of the company. I visited their office and was also impressed with meeting everyone. Their references checked out. The experience could not have gone better. It turns out my old roof had 5 layers! The proposal accounted for removing just 2 layers. Andy said although the disposal fees were higher due to the extra weight--that would be no problem and included it in the original quote. This happened several times along the way--and each time Andy said he would stand by his estimate and not tack on extra costs. All the proper permits were pulled with the City of LA. I received certificates of liability insurance and business licenses without asking. Day 1 was tear-off. A team of about 8 workers worked through 98 degree heat and didn't leave nails or debris anywhere. Day 2 began application of the new roof and everything was completed about mid-way through Day 3. The roof came in exactly on budget and a day and a half early. ANR did some custom metal work to use my existing downspouts and gutters. We just had the big windstorm last night and the roof took it like a champ. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Tear off of 5 old roofs. Re-roof with cool roof (qualifies for DWP rebate) shingles. Repaired flashings and gutters.

I received three quotes to get a new roof on my garage. ANR was the lowest. The estimator was a gentleman named Ruben. He was very professional and most importantly, punctual. After he provided me with a quote, I had follow-up questions. He was available to respond to them by email and by telephone. Once I hired ANR for the job, Ruben gave me an accurate estimate of when the job would take place, which was three weeks out. Once the job was completed, the roofers did a great job of cleaning up the site. I think my garage is actually cleaner now than when they first started. They finished the job in less than one day. The products are practically odor-free. I had a re-roof done 8 years ago and the entire perimeter of the home smelled like tar for a couple of weeks.

The salesman from ANR was very informative, he went over every step of the process with us. He answered all of our questions. He promised they would be in and out and they stuck true to their word. It took about two days to finish the work. They did a great job on the roof itself and did a superb job on clean up as well. It hasn't been long since they finished the work up, but I am hopeful the roof will hold up. All in all it was a posistive experience.

After my phone call, an estimate was promptly given the next day after the evaluation. After I compared services of another competitor and agreed to the job, work was started promptly on the date agreed. My observations of the first two days was that work was done efficiently and professionally. After two and one-half days the job was completed. Clean-up was done as could best be done. I recommend the company as efficient and professional and appeared to be very experienced and knowledgeable. I will recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: Removal of old roof and disposal of debris. Replacement of damaged plywood with new plywood, removal of damaged wooden fascia boards and replacement with new fascia boards. Installation of a 30 year roofing system with 2 layers of deck-defense underlayments and new flashings. Two skylights were lifted and resealed. Solar powered attic fan was installed on the roof to treat possible mildew accumulation due to the cathedral ceilings. Energy star shinges were placed as the top layer. Debris was blown clean daily.

See above for additional comments on how the project went. The roofers on the project were efficient and removed the old layers of shingles in half a day and could have probably completed the job in one day if not for the County required inspection. They cleaned up well both after removel and laying the new roof. They could have done a better job at the end where after they used their blower to cleanup the patio they did not sweep it up and put into the trash. They probably would have done it if I asked them but decided I could handle that after their overall "A" work.
Description of Work: The price included doing about 75% of my home (maybe about 1000 sq. ft),dry rot repair, new roof attic vents, additional cost for 4th layer of old shingle removal on half of the job area, roof metal drip edging, and Owens Cornings best 30-year roofing material, with new product fiber underlayment. ANR provides a 5-year contractor warranty. (Note: The roofing area on the other part of the house was done a few years back when an addition and remodel was done.). The cost included removal and hauling away of three layers of old shingles, County permits and inspections. From our first contact with ANR, it only took about one week from the initial phone call, their site review to a contract in the mail (email). All request for "proof" of coverage like insurance, contractor #, etc. were promptly provided. What was particularly impressive was ANR's manager assigned for project (Ricardo, a people person- -an asset to ANR) who keep the job going without a hitch and was available at a moments notice if any questions came up. I gave him a 14 item check list at the start of the project- -all were taken care of under his direction.

I had a small repair job and was concerned that I might have trouble getting a contractor to do it for a reasonable price. I contacted ANR based on Angie's List and his location and was able to schedule very quickly. The estimator showed up right on time at 9:00 AM as scheduled. He quickly measured and then gave a written estimate that was right about what I had expected. He didn't try to oversell additional services. The next week he called the day before just to make sure that I would be there at the scheduled time of 9:30 AM. The next day the crew of 3 actually arrived about 15 minutes early and had everything completed in about 3 hours. Everything was picked up and swept clean. I still have to wait for the next good rain to see the final results but am otherwise very satisfied with the work..

This contractor knows the value of good customer service. It was a real pleasure dealing with them. All of the employees were very diligent and did a very good job. It only took 3 days - start to finish. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a re-roofing job.
Description of Work: The contractor removed 25 year old asphalt shingles down to the plywood. Installed new drip edges and one skylight (2'x2') which required cutting hole and framing. Installed new shingles to main roof and installed new flat roof covering. Everything went very smoothly with no surprises.

I think the project was handled very well. The project manager Ricardo was diligent about keeping me informed about progress. He returned my phone calls very quickly to answer any of my questions. The inspections were approved by the city without incident. The job was completed in a timely manner. I was happy with this contractor.
Description of Work: The house that needed a new roof was a 6 unit apartment building that required 2 layers removed, as well as replacement of a lot rotted wood. I also had new gutters installed. Gerry Kelly handled the initial contact and quoting process very professionally. The quote was not the most expensive nor was it the least expensive but it was fair based on my own research for a job of this scope.

Thank you for considering us to do your roofing project, I'm sorry that my associate forgot his appointment through this comment on Angie's list. I spoke to my associate and he said he was in the area and made courtesy call that he was running 10 minutes late and was told to go home. We are always striving to do better, and this does help me monitor our employees. Remember we live in Los Angeles and to get from A to point B sometimes is a job in itself. We Value all your comments. I may not like them But I can see them. Thank you, it only makes us better!!!!!

In all, they did excellent work and we'd hire them again in a NY minute.
Description of Work: The roof of our garage sprang a giant leak. ANR came out during a rainstorm and plugged the leak temporarily. Then they came back a few days later and gave me an estimate. We went ahead and the work went nicely, except for an accident where the crew got a bit sloppy and roof debris crashed into an air conditioner and broke it. ANR took full responsibility and replaced the entire unit. Which really surprised us, as we expected to get royally screwed—which is how most contractors work. But ANR were honest and honorable and really, these guys are champs. We ended up spending more money than the estimate but that's because there was more dry rot than was originally visible, but isn't that always the way?

We're admittedly very hard to please customers, because we know what we want and are picky, picky, picky! We do our own research, and give prospective contractors a spec sheet so they can all bid the same job. We're open to their suggestions if they know things we don't, which we pretty much expect them to, so our spec sheet does morph as we get more information, material samples, pricing, etc., from them, but we do send them the spec sheet in advance of the estimate meeting, so we're always disappointed when they show up and ask what we want, not having written anything down from the 1st phone call or reviewed our specs. ANR did NOT do this, and the fact that I'm giving these guys straight As says a lot about their quality. We met with at least a dozen roofers before hiring these guys, and when we first looked ANR up, we didn't even call them because they only had the C39 license for roofs and we needed someone with a B General Contracting license for the deck and deck door parts of the job. We didn't want to hire someone with a B license who'd just sub out the roof, because the roof was too important a job to not hire the roofers directly. So lucky us, a couple of months before we looked at them again, they had gotten their B license. This is a family-owned and operated company, and they've been in the roof business for decades. Andy Chavez is the owner, Ruben Ugarte is an operations/sales guy, and so is Gerry Kelly, and they're prompt in returning emails and calls. That's a major plus, but even better, they know modern roof techniques, like this modified bitumen torch granule stuff which is white (but you have to keep it clean to get the maximum benefits) to reflect the sun and help keep out some of the CA heat. Here's another major and rare plus - they actually have a store, and don't work out of a truck so you know exactly where to find them and you know they're not going anywhere. Their workers are great too, hardworking and skilled at their jobs. First they removed the deck, then they put the new roof down, then they installed the new deck, and the gutters, and last, they changed out our old deck door for the new one. They got our roof and deck on fast (during the rainy season!) and without any hitches once we got fit into the schedule. They did hire a contractor who had had his license pulled to do our deck and deck door, but he worked under ANR's license so we felt covered, we checked one of the guy's references, and we were very pleased with the deck and deck door work. There was a slight delay finishing the deck door part of the job (why the end of construction projects always seems to take as long as the whole rest of job is a mystery but it's true) and some some very minor paint damage from taking out the deck door and putting roof nails in our ceiling (since our 50s post-and-beam has no attic and our ceiling is our roof), but it got done, and ANR willingly paid their share of our painter's invoice. Basically they did everything we asked, and everything they said they would. It's been months, and so far, there's been rain, but no leaks. We got their warranty, and feel confident that if we ever have to use it, they won't shirk their responsibility. But I'm betting we won't have to use it. We've recommended ANR to 3 people so far.
Description of Work: We hired ANR to remove our old and leaky composition roof and replace it with an energy-efficient GAF torchdown roof, which qualified for the federal tax credit. Because our wood deck sits over some of the roof, they had to remove the old deck anyway to get to the roof, and since it wasn't feasible to save the old deck, which was in ok, but not great, shape, we replaced it with a new Trex fake wood deck. We also replaced our old and creaky sliding aluminum deck door with a wood French door. Please see the photos. The plastic sheeting is covering the deck in the deck - before photo because that's where the roof leak was.

When this guy came out with his quote to see the three layers of roof which was demolished anyway. There is a strict variance between the other provider and ANR roofing said that there was the problem. That's why we have been waiting for an estimate. The other provider thought that there was a structural problem but these people did not feel anything of that sort. I just thought that was kind of wired that one said it was a structural issue and the other said there isn't a structural issue. When they said they were taking off the three layers I fully agreed with it. When I got the contract and they said they were going to take of one layer and then there would be additional cost per footage. The reason we knew that the roof was bad because we had like a constant leak in the bathroom ever since we bought the house. He had gone up to the roof and never once asked where the leak was coming in from.
Description of Work: I had a quote from ANR Roofing just two weeks ago to replace the roofing.

Response from ANR Roofing
Thank you for the oppurtunity to bid your project we are sorry we could not earn your busness, but wish you the best as you move forward. I personally went to see this job and there was no structural defects that I could see (red Flag). Only when you remove the roof are you able to inspect the substrate. There were no visible sags to this roof. Our proposal was based on a single layer removal because we did not want to cause additional damage to the existing roof and or additional damage to the interior. We are here to help as many people as we can, we are not here to up sell, scare, or deceive anyone! If your looking for an honest, detailed contractor call us. We are not perfect, but we will satisfy you in the end. We are not always the lowest priced ;( but we will work hard to earn your business.

I would use them again! I have more roofing I need to have done and I will use Rubin again. Very professional and they give the best price!
Description of Work: Rubin came out and gave me a bid, they beat everyone's price! I even got 3 bids from other Angie's list roofing companies. They also installed 2 solar attic fans and I also got a tax rebate for the installation. They repaired my roof before the rains came and their were no problems! They fit me in and were on time and did the job fast!

We requested a quote via their website. They responded promptly with a very detailed proposal. They were very responsive and did exactly what they said they would do every step of the way. Every person we dealt with at ANR was friendly and professional. I would hire them again, if needed and would not hesitate to refer them to anyone who needs quality work at fair price. Also, they went above and beyond by installing a tarp to cover the leaking roof for two weeks (during horrible rain storms) until we wanted the actual work to begin.
Description of Work: ANR Roofing replaced the roof on our garage.

I was initially referred by a friend to have this work performed by an non licensed roofer. We both had been told by our inspector prior to purchasing our home that the roof was fine, the ridgecaps just need to be replaced. So I requested an estimate from the non licensed roofer and it was $800. I was told its actually more expensive. I hesitated..this was my roof we're talking about. So I waited. In the mean time, at least 3 construction companies stopped by my house asking to put a bid to fix my roof because it need to be replaced. I asked for an estimate just on the ridgecaps and they refused and said they need to put an overlay and yadayada yada. It sounded expensive. So I decided-ENOUGH! Im checking Angies list for a roofer. First estimate:$1075 I chose ANR as one of the estimates, because of the great reviews. This was my experience Monday-3/14/11-email ANR asking if they replace ridgecaps. Tuesday-3/15/11-Response from company stating yes, with information on product used and request to submit estimate request online. I submitted same day. Wedensday- 3/16/11-Ricardo (General Manager ) contacted me to schedule estimate. Scheduled for 3/17/11. I had another estimated scheduled on that day:$900. Thursday-3/17/11-Ricardo came out took pictures, provided me with estimate and informed me of cracked flashings-recommended to have them fixed BUT also said my husband can do it himself. They said they can do it while they replaced ridgecaps. Also informed my roof was fine, but ridgecaps could cause leaks if not replaced. (just like inspector stated). ESTIMATE:$850. Heavy rain was expected. I had already waited a very long time. I needed to get this done. After consulting with my husband I felt ANR gave the best price and had the best reviews. So I called Ricardo asking if he could come to do the work on Saturday. He said he would check to see if someone was available. Friday- 3/18/11- Signed Estimate and request for service. Ricardo confirmed someone could do the work Saturday morning. Saturday- 3-19/11- Roofers completed work in 3 hours. (estimated time 4-5). Cleaned up everything and were very nice. Ricardo came by to check their work and take picture of the roof to show me the completed job. I am very happy! What a difference! Thank you so much! Quick response, competitive pricing and completed work in time I requested.
Description of Work: Replaced ridgecaps and sealed and painted all flashings.
