ALPHA UPHOLSTERERS

They were on time and did the job nicely. I could not ask for anything more than that. They were very nice. The price was and the quality of their work was excellent.

I called another upholsterer on Angie's List who has a lot of great reviews - they also have a lovely website and seem to do excellent, high end work. When I called they were just leaving the office but I told them what I needed and gave them the measurements to get an idea of cost. He said he'd email me right back and I offered (and then did) e-mail him the same information I had given him over the phone. I never heard from them again. At the same time, I found Alpha because they're very close to where I live and I wanted to compare prices anyway. I told them what I needed and they said I could stop by that afternoon if I wanted so I did, old torn cushions in tow. They gave me a price and offered several fabric options - they cut swatches of about 10 or so for me to take home and choose (or let my wife choose). We eventually found fabric somewhere else that came close to matching the rest of the chair as we could not locate the same pattern - Alpha had told me how many yards I would need so I purchased it and brought it in. They did the work and had it finished a day earlier than they estimated. I picked them up and are using them now. Well, not right now, as I'm at my desk, but they get sat upon often. Here's the thing (if there is a "thing"). This is not a retail shop . It's a commercial upholsterer that does orders for manufacturers and they are open to the public, but there's no nice clean waiting area or fabric books to look through or photos of designs or sales pitches. They upholster things and if you go there, you'll walk through to the warehouse and one of the guys sitting there surrounded by fabric and cutting tables and tools and an old TV with his calculator and carbon copy invoice pad will write down measurements and give you an idea of cost. This was perfect for me as it was affordable and quick and I knew what I wanted. I would assume that if you don't know what you want, or if you're prissy about stores you visit, you would do better to go somewhere more design and sales oriented. If you need something well upholstered at a good price and in a timely matter, this is a good choice.
