+ -1 moreIn August we had a heatwave with temperatures hanging around 110 with nightly lows at about 80. My husband and I were on vacation with our daughter, her husband, and their baby at our home. The A/C quit leaving the house in the upper 80's. Baker's heating and air was able to come out pretty quickly for a $100 fee. After a quick check the technician informed my daughter it would cost $10,000 in parts or $16,000 for a whole new system. He blamed the coil on our 15 year old unit, saying dog urine had broke it down and caused a refrigerant leak which destroyed the compressor. He also said he could start the work the following day, having already had the parts on hand... She called us to relay the message. We called another company for a second opinion. The repair was made with a $20 part- a relay to be exact. By three o'clock the day after our quote of 10-16 thousand dollars our home was cooled and comfortable for pocket change. In addition I'd like to add, we moved in 6 years ago. The dog urine damage was already there. We have had annual maintenance on the unit a few times and no other technician has warned us about the damage. The gentleman who fixed the unit said the damage was minor and would expect our unit to run another ten or more years as is. I feel as though Baker saw a young couple in a nice home and tried to take advantage of them. I will be sure to leave an honest review every time I meet a dishonest businessman.

Description of Work: Company removed and replaced heat/air package unit. Also built additional return duct from living room to improve circulation and air dispersion. I was very pleased with this company and their work. They are also really nice people! I was especially impressed because on one of the hottest days of the summer, Rod Baker came over to do an estimate at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon after working on an installation all day. That is the type of work ethic you can expect -- not easy to find these days. The work was done on schedule, professionally, and was nicely finished off, too. Both the duct testing company and the building inspector commented quite favorably on the workmanship. I would use them again in a heartbeat and recommend their work.
