Came out to my home twice in Livermore to assess a job. Each time I was informed I would be provided with a bid/proposal. Was never followed through even after subsequent phone calls. Horrible customer relations/service. Well the jobs at hand were smaller, follow-through would be appreciated.

Response from Ken Prine Construction
[Member Name Removed] I do apologize for the lack of communication approximately 8 to 10 months ago however at that time I was traveling back and fourth to the state of Washington as my Mother was ill. She was diagnosed with a stomach aneurism and had surgery to repair that and endured other complications. I do not recall the subsequent phone calls as this was a while back and was crazy times but I most always return calls. I don't recall. I do recall meeting with you. The first meeting was to advise you of what steps to take with your water leak. I did that. The second meeting was a job walk where I was to provide a bid/proposal. Unfortunately I had several jobs get pushed aside during that time. Family comes first. I take pride in my work and do not care to have any negative reviews as this is my only means of advertisement. Most of my business is all repeat customers and word-of-mouth advertisement. Sorry to disappoint you. Ken Prine

We used Ken when we moved into our home over 12 years ago for a texture and painting project and everything went great then so when we decided to do a bigger project on our home we decided to contact him again! My in laws have used Ken for various projects as well in their Livermore home over the years. We used Ken for a 400 sf addition and remodel this time. It was a REALLY big project with lots of processes. He worked with us from the beginning on finding an engineer to draw and submit plans to the city for approval and then the 400 sf addition which extended the whole back side of our home. He was there every step of the way. Our project included adding a new Master bath, kitchen remodel, roof, floors, baseboards, crown, paint ect ect ect. The total project from start to finish was 7 months. I saw A LOT of Ken and his crew, who were always respectable and considerate. If something was not going right Ken would always listen and make it correct. I feel Ken is very fair, patient and honest and does top quality work in a timely matter. The project has now been complete 4 months and we have not had any problems but I know if we did he would be over to fix it! We will definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone we know

Having Ken work on my bathrooms was a pleasure. He did a very good job. My bathrooms make me smile. We had old outed dated plumbing and bathrooms that smelled, not anymore. He was always on time. He was very clean. He layed paper down on my floors in my house so they would not get dirty. He listened too everything I said and wanted. Ken also had great ideas. He sent me to a great tile store and a great marble place. Everything in my bathrooms are of the best quality and beautiful. I love everything from my sinks to my shower doors and even my toilets. He will even do a few extra things for you. I would definetly hire him again. Thank you again Ken.
Description of Work: Ken totally gutted and remodeled two bathrooms in my house.

Working with Ken was a delight from the beginning. He provided a detailed estimate and final invoice. His prices were very competitive. I had already purchased the pedestal sinks and faucets and I had selected the paint color; so, he was able to work my job into his schedule very quickly. He completed the job in just three days. Ken gave me some excellent advice about replacing the faucets and he saved me from what could have been a very expensive mistake by talking me out of diagonal placement of the flooring. He was always very punctual and works very clean, cleaning up every day, and making sure that we were never inconvenienced. He was a pleasure to have working in our home. I will certainly call him again for any remodeling projects around our home.
Description of Work: Ken replaced the vinyl flooring, removed the vanities and replaced them with pedestal sinks, new supply lines, new faucets, replaced the baseboards and painted both bathrooms.

Description of Work: Ken Prine does excellent work. He last installed a new kitchen faucet for me. He has installed new windows & done painting & other work for good friends. The primary drawback to contacting Mr. Prine for services is that he is often so busy there may be a long wait.

I purchased all materials at a cost of over $1800, (so the $3800 I show above is 98% his labor, including paying off subs) - I used high quality, but fairly priced components. Ken did (during the project, with my consent) add a few additional quality touches, some were free of charge, some I voluntarily absorbed. Again, there were aspects that Ken subcontracted out at reasonable prices, specifically the tile work and cutting the granite top...I knew all this up front. The guys he used also delivered the goods, very nice work. Time in project was a little less than 2 weeks - Ken was juggling another project at the time, and his assistant was out, recovering from an operation. He explained all that up front - all OK, since I had 2 other functioning bathrooms. The result - his work on this project was flawless, period. High-end model home, show quality meant for more discerning customers. No seams, gaps, half-baked compromise fixes. No callbacks, just the same as last time.... During the final stages of the project, he replaced electrical switches, outlets and plates at absolutely no charge. Besides being financially invested in the project, he was becoming emotionally invested too, because of just how it was all turning out, and he knew there were just a few things stopping it from looking 100% perfect. At the last minute I threw some new vanity lights on the counter and he put them up, no cost. He added upgraded door molding at a very very reasonable price. His paint quality on the wainscot, trim and walls was factory smooth, professional quality. So this time around, I graded his pricing as above good - (almost) excellent value. I had to take into consideration he had to pay his tile/granite subs, he had additional material/labor on the rotted sub-floor, the run for electrical components (free) and reduced cost for molding/painting/installation..all this puts him at the $100/hr category.... Yeah, still a little high, but again, the work was flawless, no callbacks, nothing compromised. Also same as last time, he was great to work with through the project, kept me apprised. Honest businessman, does what he says he's going to do and delivers great quality. Yes, I'm satisfied.
Description of Work: I'm a repeat customer, having done business with Ken back in July 2011 when I first bought my present home. This time around, was to take care of a large 1/2 bathroom in my downstairs that was sorely in need of remodel (was original to construction in 1983). The original material supplied by the builder was shoddy and cheesy. The floor had bad water damage, the result of a previous homeowner who installed laminate in the bathroom - the job was, ahem,.....substandard to put it gently, and in addition, the previous homeowner blew it when he re-seated the toilet. It was a mess. I had Ken out to the house @ 6 months before, to get a quote on doing the remodel. I didn't have the funds then, but wanted to make him aware of my intent, and to get pointers. This time around I wanted to approach the project from a "labor-only" quote, since bathrooms (and kitchens) become one of those where the homeowner is more involved, choosing the components/colors they like best. Ken pointed out the vendors with the best quality/value component, and how to approach certain aspects of material. I did want quality first, but I have to say I saved a good deal of money, or at least got the best value for my dollar in following his advice. I pretty much admit I'm not interested in being a do-it yourselfer, although I enjoy causal wood building projects: planter benches, storage sheds, miscellaneous knick-knacks - but I've gotten away from a lot of that since I have a demanding job that saps my time during the week and weekends. At my past home I tried my hand at plumbing - a $50 job turned into a $1100 job, since I damaged copper piping which had to shut down the main to fix - all this was on a Sunday afternoon with time running out - had to call in a plumber (and got one of those 24 hr "shark" plumbing outfits... never again). I've smartened up and found that if I really stop and look, there is an abundance of local talent here art reasonable prices, as long as you pay them fairly, develop a good business relationship and hold them to high quality expectations. I like to keep my money here with the locals and businesses in Livermore, and I haven't (and don't expect to be) let down. So back to it here - I wanted Ken to provide installation skills in a complete bathroom remodel, including demo, haul-away scrap, remove all water damaged items/replace with new quality material, strip wall paper, repair sheetrock (from an unrelated issue. On the build/remodel side: Correct/Install subfloor, wainscot/molding, vanity, top, tile, lighting, sheetrock work, painting, etc...the whole enchilada. He gave me a quote at that time, and stuck with the same quote 6 months later, when I was ready to go. After I had collected all the materials/paint, I contacted Ken for a start date, and he was able to slot me in at a reasonable point. Once there, he got busy quickly.

The home was empty, so Ken's set up was easy. In addition to getting Consultation/update calls from Ken daily, I would do physical checks - He was able to accomplish all this within a week of start. Work (including finish) was excellent, with no rework needed. I found him real easy to work with - he always asked for direction to insure he was working to my requirements - I normally deferred to him for his expertise and experience on certain aspects, and found his opinions and recommendations to be sound. The room looks great. He chose good quality material that appears durable. Ken normally quotes by each action needed in the sum of total requirements of the job. That's good in a way if you're working to a budget, you can opt in or out certain things. Price total was negotiated a few percentages off of quote, but not much. Summary: I got exactly what I paid for: high quality work by an experienced, honest, timely contractor.
Description of Work: Recommended by my Agent. Purchased a bank-owned home with a slew of issues needing attention in Kitchen. My fundamental need was to convert a loft, closing off a wall, installing fold-back doors and converting it into a fully functioning bedroom - that also included installing a fully functioning closet and lastly putting laminate flooring in the room. There was also a 2nd bedroom where I wanted laminate flooring installed. All of this had to be done in short-order, within one week after close of escrow. Ken stepped up, so I gave him the business.
