The homeowner, a 76 year old woman, had a water line break in her kitchen and it damaged the wood flooring and cabinets. The kitchen is a very small kitchen in a 2 bedroom townhome. Darrell M Richards (aka Darrell W Richards) was hired to complete kitchen cabinets (upper/lower) and flooring. He came into this project after another company had tore out lower cabinets. Since starting this project in July 2010, the work has been irregular and haphazard at best, after a very promising start. He will come over and take measurements and disappears for a weeks at a time. He makes promises and and doesn't keep them. His working habits are pitiful. When he does work, he cannot work for more than a couple hours a day and stops and doesn't come back for weeks. He has installed and removed cabinets and shelves and drawers, only to come back and have to make "tweaks" to fix shabby work, or to add features that the homeowner never asked for. Oe example of the shoddy work he has performed, he made 1 drawer front too large and when the owner complained about it, he took the drawer front back and cut groove an inch below the top of the drawer front and told the owner that this made it look like a 'breadboard' was at the top ofthe drawer. He has stained drawer fronts and cabinet doors and had to remove and restain several times and as of today, is still not finished. He has yet to finish the electrical work for cabinet lighting started more than six months ago and the wiring is NOT up to code. He argued with the homeowner about height placement of a overhead microwave. He wanted to place the microwave so low over a stovetop that you couldn't see the stovetop while standing in front of the micorwave . He has installed new features such as silent door hinges without asking the homeowner, among other things. Crown moldings were placed on the cabinets, but have not been attached and are not level, for over a year now. The excuse is that he was waiting to finish the cabinets which of course, are not yet finished. Thus far, the project, started in July 2010, is still unfinished in Sept 2012. DO NOT EVER hire this person to do any work for you.
Description of Work: He removed damaged wood kitchen flooring and installed new wood flooring and completed that work in a timely manner. He installed temporary countertops so the homeowner could use the kitchen while the cabinet carcasses were being worked on. He has installed upper and lower cabinets, shelves, drawer fronts, cabinet doors, cabinet paneling, and crown molding. These are NOT yet completed. He has installed a microwave and exhaust hood, but the woodwork remains unfinished. He has installed cabinet lighting in several locations, but that remains unfinished. Kickplates were contracted to be installed as well, but are yet to be installed. The work was started in July 2010 and as of Sept 21, 2012, it has yet to be completed.
