Able To Plumbing & Rooter

Excellent. Able To was able to schedule us for a service call within a couple of hours after I called early Monday morning. The owner, Travis, came out and explained what had happened (a fatal leak of the water heater) and what we would need, including the differences between water heaters one could buy at a home improvement store versus the better reliability of those only available to the contractor trade. Within 5 hours of my call, we had a new working water heater and new stainless steel connections - a necessary upgrade. Travis and his employee explained everything well, answered all of our questions, even the minor ones, and explained how to check the operation of the new device. The friendly conversations that took place during the repair were great, too.

I really don't think you could find a better plumber than Able To Plumbing. The integrity with which they do their work is incredible. I heard of them upon recommendation from my father-in-law and we first had them out to deal with a back-up. Brad came out and knew exactly how to deal with the problem (unlike the previous plumber we had out), and thoroughly explained everything he would do, and then followed through on it. He also checked what we thought was a leak with our water heater. Although our water heater was old, and we were convinced we needed a new one, Brad told us it was just a leak with the pipe and no need to replace the whole water heater. Later we decided to get a quote to replace our galvanized piping with copper, and Travis provided us with a very reasonable quote for all the work that would need to be done. When Brad and his team came out to do the work, they were very considerate and treated my whole family and home (including yappy dog) with the utmost respect. They diligently completed the work (even cleaning under the fridge where we would never see) and regularly provided me status updates and explanations. Whenever I had a question they would take the time to explain, and give me the education I was looking for given the situation. When they had to come back to fix my washer lines that we accidentally reversed, instead of just switching the lines, Brad took the time to do it the right way - I was once again blown away by his integrity. These guys are the real deal - they treat you like a brother or sister, and I won't be using another plumber as long as I can avoid it!

After buying a house in the Livermore area, inevitably things started to go wrong. First it was a leak in the garage through the walls and then an absolutely shot garbage disposal. We called Able To and had the pleasure of having Travis come out on the first call. He was incredibly knowledgeable and fixed the leak above and beyond. There was a possibility of having to rip through the walls, leaving us with major sheetrock replacement. Instead of doing this, Travis was able to assess the problem, fix it, and leave us with nothing to do on our own. Not only did he fix the problem, he took the time to tell me about his favorite spots in Livermore, ranging from gyms to schools to great places to grab a bite. Being new to the area, this was such a welcome "bonus". Two days later, we got to meet Rich when it was time to replace the disposal. He, too, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He explained things to me, showed me the problem and, again, went above and beyond what I expected. Beyond the work, the price and the knowledge of these two, I was incredibly appreciative of their respectfulness and attentiveness they showed me and my children. It's not everyday you come across a company like this.

I called on a Friday and left a message. He returned my call the the next day, Saturday, and came out to look at the problems. He scheduled to return Monday morning to do the repairs with the parts he needed. He is very knowledgable about the different plumbing fixtures. He said for leaks he always replaces the washers and stems regardless of the cause. He won't replace only some parts. He places his metal tools directly on the fixtures so if you are concerned about scratches you should provide him a towel or something to protect your fixtures. He ran water in the tub to test the faucet. Then stepped in the water and tracked muddy water on my tile and new wood floors. The knobs he provided look too small and out of proportion foro my faucet but he said nothing else was available. He provided gold tone fixtures to match my gold toned faucet. I recommend if you care about the appearance then you should provide your own fixtures and have him install. The toilet handle had to be held down until flushing was complete to flush properly. Travis diagnosed the problem as the wrong flapper had been installed. He said the proper flapper would resolve the problem. After he changed the flapper I asked if it would flush properly. He hedged his answer by saying something like "it will flush the way this model is supposed to". I explained the only problem was that I had to hold down the handle. I asked if it would flush with a single push of the handle the way it did if I held down the handle. He only repeated his vague answer. I got the uneasy feeling he was paranoid of liability or something. I was also taken aback that his reponse before I agreed to the work was a certain affirmation that it would correct the problem and after the work had been completed he started qualifying his answer. I asked to keep the old flapper in case the new flapper was worse. He responded with what I interpreted as a flippant answer "You mean this flapper that I broke while removing?". When he left I had to dipose of the old parts and clean up the grease/dirt and rust that had been dislodged during the repair. I found the packaging for the flapper on the floor behind the toilet instead of in the garbage can that was on the other side of the toilet. Subsequent to the completion of the work I noticed after flushing the toilet I could hear water temporarily leak down the drain in the tank. I did not have this problem with the old flapper. Travis insists it's not a problem unless enough water leaks to cause the tank to start refill. The toilet now flushes normally, but has the residual leak that is temporary and audible after each flush. I think he is very knowledgeable, but he could be more professional and be more respectful of clients property. I would consider using him again, but I would try other plumbers who have more positive recommendations first.

The 25 year old toilets in our townhouse no longer flushed very well & needed to be replaced. The work went very smoothly, even considering the cramped quarters in two of the bathrooms. Mr. Ables took care of the work personally, was prompt, efficient and left no mess. I will definitely use this company in the future.
