There was a large opening into which Randy installed a beautiful closet and shelving. He reinforced the rod for heavy clothing and installed sliding doors. He was very considerate of controlling dust and dirt and did all the sawing outdoors. It was done quite quickly and we are very pleased with the cohesive look of the closet with the rest of the room. He also gutted an outside bathroom, closed all the plumbing, repaired the drywall and installed vinyl flooring. It is now an efficient tool storage room. We also had him help us with some major roof repairs. The gutters had been leaking and rotting out the fascia board. There had to be two layers of tile roofing removed , as well as the fascia boards and all gutters. This was around the entire home and adjacent large RV storage building. Purchased new fascia boards which were primed, painted and installed. Purchased new seamless gutters and downspouts and installed, and then replaced all necessary flashing, roof and felt and finally reinstalled roof tiles. Throughout the entire project, Randy was very communicative and helpful and his work teams were professional and cleaned up at the end of the day. We would hire R & R Construction again in a heartbeat and have already spoken of him to neighbors for their future reference.
Description of Work: Randy built a large closet, including dry wall surround and gutted a bathroom and finished as a storage room. He also facilitated the repair of leaky gutters and rotten fascia board.

I'm not sure why some of these contractors waste their gas and time to show up for a bid and never respond with one. When I called, Randy was readily available and showed up later the same day, indicating the project I want to complete was in line with their expertise. He invested about an hour of his time discussing the project scope, took measurements, looked at my floor plans, etc. I asked him when I could expect to see a proposal from him. He asked if I could give him a week. I said "no problem." Four weeks later, not a peep. If this is how they handle the process of "getting the work", I certainly would be very concerned about how they handle "doing the work".
Description of Work: Requested bid for extensive kitchen renovation and installation of new flooring throughout.

I was really pleased with the planning process. Randy worked with me to help me decide how we could accomplish what I wanted within my budget. He was very flexible and informative. They began work on the dates as planned. In two bathrooms we did a moderate amount of work, refinishing the cabinets, changing out light fixtures and mirrors, changing flooring. In the master bath we did a complete remodel. Everything turned out very nicely and I thought that the work was done in a reasonable amount of time. Along the way, Randy and his son Ryan addressed all of my concerns.
Description of Work: I had two contracts with R&R construction, mostly for work to update and remodel three bathrooms. I also included some incidental work like installing can lights, painting, and installing molding on other rooms.

Randy came out and was very helpful with ideas and tips for our remodel. We changed our minds many times about the shape and function of the room. Randy was able to work well with the changes.
Description of Work: We turned our third car tandem garage into a fifth bedroom. We also had a tile backsplash added to our kitchen. We also had a closet added to convert a den into a bedroom.

Based on Angie's list rating, I contacted R&R for an estimate on several projects - balcony leak repair, bathroom remodel, and possible replacement of a custom double-paned glass front door with sidelights - probably $30,000 at least in work. The young man who came out to my home told me he would get an estimate to me in a week and a half - at least for the balcony leak. He did sound busy. A month or more went by, so I called and left a polite message. I never got ANY response. If they weren't able to do the job or did not want to, a polite message would have allowed me to move along quickly. Good performance on those first projects could have led to another $50,000 plus in projects - full hardwood floors, kitchen tile, lighting, and other. I was disappointed because I liked the guy and thought he was interested in helping us.

Response from R&R Construction
I did contact (member name removed) and apologized for not getting back to her as soon as I stated. We have been extremely busy, which is no excuse. Our record shows that we work hard to give our clients a quality job at a fair price.

Randy and Ryan, his son, are an incredible team. Randy came to my home by himself the first time to write up a proposal, but he told me very soon into the visit that he wanted Ryan to have a look before we got too far into it. So we walked around the house, starting the tour with the large crack in the high wall just below the beam, a thin zigzag creeping slowly down toward the stair case, ending with a prolonged examination of the balcony floor from the perspective of a ladder in the garage with and peek holes in the plaster, its slider, its drains, its history. Randy got his flashlight and spent forty minutes there. The biggest thing I noticed about him during that first walk through was his skill at listening. This must have been near the end of May, 2013. I had talked with a few other general contractors, one of whom actually prepared a detailed and well-documented proposal several thousand dollars above R&R's contractual bid which I considered seriously. I learned much about the house and about its maintenance from this process. I noticed, however, that Randy spent much more of his time listening and answering my questions, much less of it telling me what I should or should not do, as competitors had done. When I asked him for options or suggestions, he gave them freely, and he weighed the pros and cons. Ryan's inspection of the job was revealing. I could see immediately that he wasn't taking anything for granted. By that, I mean he was looking at everything to see the work through the eyes of the guy who would climb the ladder and swing the hammer. We can't say enough about Ryan, his work ethic, his skills, his talents, his breadth of knowledge from ceiling fans to sliding glass doors. He is truly a perfectionist, adept at listening just like his dad. One thing about R&R that makes it outstanding--both Randy and Ryan do much of the work. We put our furniture in a POD in the driveway on June 10, using another Angie's List moving company (A Better Move--a great outfit in its own right). Randy started the job on Thursday, spending Thursday and Friday tearing off siding and looking at the depth of the dry rot (we weren't in too bad shape). On Monday Ryan and Brandon (Brandon is another high-caliber guy--everyone Randy brought into the job was phenomenal) began in earnest. They started on the backside of the house, ripping off bad siding and trim, replacing the siding, using pressure-treated fir for the trim. Randy had Jack Hale install the laminate floor in our loft (Jack is a visual artist in laminate--use him if you want some laminate installed). The old carpet came out, the new came in on one Thursday. Tracy painted and painted and painted (Tracy is an artist, too, a careful and patient and precise painter who is a master calker). Randy and Ryan are fine people in addition to be excellent workers. They made sure that they picked up to the extent possible each day. They swept up, and they were sensitive to our needs (helping us get the furniture out of the POD and back in the house as early as possible, for example). All of the subcontractors and Randy, Ryan, and Brandon were just plain nice people--friendly, trustworthy (we never worried about the house when we had to leave). Randy is very responsive to texts and emails as well--sometimes it is easier to contact him via text than via phone, but he is very accessible on the phone, too. I texted him with daily updates through a lot of the work, and he was highly responsive to my questions and concerns. Once he even texted me about a topic and asked if I had any questions or concerns. The POD is long gone, the furniture back in place, pictures back up on the walls. Randy was just here an hour or so ago to do the final odd things--put down a piece of quarter round between the new carpet and the slider (Ryan didn't like the gap there), water test the balcony (drum roll...), button up the plaster holes in the garage ceiling under the balcony, do just a tad bit more calking. Last thing he said to me as he walked out of the garage was "Just let me know if you have any problems." Would my wife and I hire this amazing hands on planner and his masterful son again? In a heartbeat. (I'm sure we have not seen the last of R&R :) These people are the best!
Description of Work: Randy was general for me for several projects this summer big and small, including replacing siding and exterior trim, fixing dry rot, replacing front corbels (5), rebuilding a second-story balcony to make it waterproof, installing three new downspouts, calking and painting exterior, installing laminate in upstairs loft, recarpeting throughout the house, replastering and texturing edges of columns etc., varnishing front door, replacing florescent ballasts in the kitchen, replacing ceiling fan in master bedroom, and painting interior (very high and open ceiling), and other things I am not recalling...

Overall, even though we did not use his services for this remodeling project, we will certainly contact him again to do a few more remodeling projects we have planned. Randy was prompt to return our call and set up a date for a meeting to evaluate what we wanted done. The project was to extend our living room and dining area out 5 feet onto our patio, which were mostly windows and an 8 foot slider. It would be necessary to cut out part of the patio and form a new foundation for the extension. He was very knowledgeable regarding all the steps necessary to get this done. There would be new flooring to lay, base and crown molding to be replaced and stucco and paint. There was no doubt in our minds that R&R Construction would have accomplished this for us.
Description of Work: I had a consultation and received an estimate from the owner of R&R, Randy. He was on time, personable, and my husband and I believed he was capable and willing to do our remodel.

This is the second time I have used Randy and his son. Tented area to prevent dust. Tore out two (2) pony walls; replaced flooring with travertine accent tiles to match travertine already there; sheet rocked, painted; changed electrical. Excellent job. I am fussy. Also, repaired loose bathroom tiles, caulked showers, and other areas. On time, efficient, friendly. Son works with him. Both are perfectionists. I plan to use him again in a few weeks to create a work shop.

Randy and his crew showed up on time every day and were extremely professional and courteous throughout the entire project. They worked hard and finished the project extremely fast, doing quality work on everything. We were very happy with the finished product, the price, and the time it took to complete. Randy checked in frequently to make sure we were happy with the progress and the quality of the work. I would definitely use them again for future jobs, and I actually just contacted them again for another small project.
Description of Work: We had a large bonus room that we wanted to split in half, turning one half into an office and one half into an outdoor patio. We had 2 sets of French doors installed leading out into the new patio, and multiple new walls were constructed/dry-walled/textured. We also had some electrical work done, installing new outlets and converting some old outlets from 2-prong to 3-prong with ground wires.

The design took a while to nail down due to building code complexities (especially setbacks), and Randy stuck with me until we got most of the issues settled. There were a few glitches in communication, but he was smart, easy to talk to, and gave me a very nice bid. In the end I went with another contractor who also had some very good qualities. The choice was difficult, and each contractor brought a slightly different set of strengths to the project. I felt that the other contractor had some ideas and recommendations that anticipated my particular needs a bit better. I know Randy was disappointed that I didn't hire R & R. I expect to have several more remodeling projects over the coming months, and I will definitely contact Randy for those projects if he's available. I have every confidence that R & R will be very competitive, and well worth considering.
Description of Work: Replace my aging carport with a more secure enclosure, with storage space, a breezeway, efficient lighting and an automatic garage door. Demolish and replace the concrete slab; enclose the overhead space for storage; finish to match the shingles, stucco and gutters of the house. Remove a 15 foot tree that interferes with the new design. Replace an ancient electrical service panel and redirect the connection from the main power line.

Project took nearly 5 months it would be too long to write everything down.
Description of Work: The quality of this team is excellent. We have used these guys since the major remodel and continue to be impressed with the high quality of workmanship. When faced with a challenge, they are very good at thinking through the problem and resolving it to our satisfaction. Areas of improvement include proactive communication and better estimating of when work will be complete. But as the owner learned that these were areas that we could help R&R improve on and worked towards that end. Highly recommend this business.

The top wreck room was not level. I had the original contractor come out to level the floor. They tried to fix it by putting in cement float and it ending up being a big mess. I then contacted R & R and he came out to level the whole room. His technique that he recommended was using schisms. Pulled up the trim carpet and padding and replaced it all with no injury to the trim and the carpet is in perfect condition. He cleaned up after himself immaculately. I chose him by the way he bided, which was about in the middle, and mainly how he measured and told me what the problems were. He is very polite and easy to work with. On time and even called me when he would be late. The project took about 2 weeks to complete. He even cleaned the A/C filter for me. I am going to use him for other things as well.

The house needed new windows and exterior finish as well as work on the living room area to replace damaged floors and install a set of French doors. R&R subcontracted gutters and stucco; I purchased the fireplace insert separately, but R&R installed the new slate surround. R&R installed the windows and French doors and poured a new concrete pad outside the slider to replace a rotted deck. They removed an unused wood stove and repaired the floor and wall, and removed an old chimney and repaired the roof. While we were working we discovered some electrical deficiencies which R&R corrected. They also installed a new driveway light. R&R Construction has done several jobs for me in the past and I honestly would be reluctant to have anyone else work on my house. Randy, Ryan and Chris did a superb job -- Ryan in particular practically lived at my house for three months repairing the hardwood flooring, installing tile (he even matched the circular cuts in the existing tile floor) and French doors, and installing slate and a new mantle with the new fireplace insert. The walk-in closet in the master bedroom had been added on and required an awkward step-down. Ryan raised and insulated the closet floor. The wood exterior of the house was discolored and rotting; I wanted something easier to maintain and more fire resistant. Randy suggested stucco and recommended a local contractor who did a great job. Randy also subbed out the gutter installation and again his recommended firm was excellent. The house looks SO MUCH BETTER and is much more functional.

I was very pleased with the responsiveness, work eithic, price and quality of work. I had a real hard time finding somebody to fix the wobbly rail because the job was so small. But Randy (I think it was his name), the son, came in and even had to run to a Home Depot for parts and only charged me $75. Somebody else would probably try to reap us off just because we live in Granite Bay. I am very impressed. Thank you guys. Will think of you for future projects.

No Service performed, but want to acknowledge them for bidding.I contacted R&R Construction to be one of my bidders for my bathroom remodel. They were always PROMPT about responding, their bid was in line with all the others and very friendly. I didn't chose them because they used the hot mop process for sealing showers and I wanted the membrane system. Due to my experience with them bidding, I will certainly consider them for any future project I have.

The finished product far exceeded my expectations. The Ryan part of R&R Construction is a true craftsman that does very high quality work in every aspect including cleanup.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel. I purchased the materials, Ryan Demere performed the labor. He installed an electic over, microwave, JenAire down draft stove top, refrigerator, base cabinet, upper wall cabinet and oven cabinet. Ryan does miticulous work in both wood and in stainless steel. Regarding the finish wood work, Ryan cut and installed a customized crown moulding. Regarding the stainless steal, Ryan fabricated a stainless steel trim piece to surround the jen Air cooktop. His impecable quality of work made the project appear like those found in a show house. Because I make a change, Ryan had to return on 3-5-12 to complete the job. There was no problem getting Ryan to come back. The extra work was only $125.

Things started great he showed up on time. That was a big deal for me. The project went easier then we thought. We found out that the problem was that someone had screwed the top cabinet into the drain pipe. The whole thing was done in two days and I had my kitchen back to normal. He was very clean and organized. He respected my house and listened to my concerns. I would recommend them for further work.
Description of Work: I called them about a leak I had. The leak was from the drainage pipe from the upstairs bathroom. He came out on the same day I called within about 30 min. He took a look at my problem and got back to me with the estimate. He looked at in on Thursday an had the estimate to me on Friday. After I had the estimate I talked my insurance and they agreed on the price. Then I called R&R constriction and told him the offer was accepted. He told me he would get back to me after he talked to his son. First thing Monday morning he called and asked if Thursday was good for me. The reason for Thursday was because it was my day off. So this worked out great.

I worked primarily with Randy and found him to be honest, accommodating, flexible, and creative when it came to resolving design and construction questions. He did a great job enlarging the passage between the kitchen and dining room, making the space larger and brighter. He installed 2 interior wall-mount sliding doors and built valances to cover the hardware - it's a great looking installation. He also found an ingenious solution for locating the washer and dryer. His cabinet maker did an excellent job constructing custom vanity cabinetry. Ryan put in the baseboards, among other things, and I had never seen the posh-looking cutouts he made to accommodate the sliding closet doors; they are now a featured part of the house tour. When I had questions or requests, Randy listened carefully and took care of my concerns right away. Both Randy and Ryan are hard workers who take their business seriously and aim for customer satisfaction. I strongly recommend them and would call on them again in the future.

They started on time and always did the work when they said they would. They did not gouge or try to expand their job by suggesting projects to be added which were nice but not really neccessary. They are straight shooters and very trustworthy. They did not take short cuts but did it the right way. They also used top quality materials and always cleaned up at the end of the day. It was very easy to communicate with them. They worked with my time schedule and completed on time. The finished job was fantastic. I have two homes and will definetely use them in the future.
Description of Work: I had a home inspection and termite inspection done and wanted to have repairs made on items called for in the reports. I do this every 4 - 5 years just for maintenance and keeping the home in top shape. This home is impecable and I keep it that way. The home is 13 years old. I went on Angies List to find a top performing remodeling contractor. I was not looking for the cheapest but I was looking for the best and someone I felt I could work with. I interviewed and got bids from 3 contractors off Angies List. I went with Randy and Ryan Dere with R&R Construction. That turned out to be an excellent choice. Randy who is the father and owner always returned my phone calls the same day even though they were very busy. He also sent follow up e mails. Very professional. After my initial phone contact requesting him to come out, look at the job and give me a bid we came out the next day. We scheduled the work to start in 2 to 3 weeks which was convenient for me. The job entailed repairing dry rot damage to the front, side, and rear redwood decks, replacing 9 redwood deck boards, treating the affected areas with copper green, wire brushing, removing dirt to wood contact on support posts, installing a perforated drain line, and hooking up some downspout connections.
