Chris is a professional, honest and hands-on owner who made sure everything went smoothly. When there was a potential problem with a new slurry being done on my block and no parking the same day as the re-roof, Chris found a way around it. I wish all the other services I deal with were as easy to work with as Chris. I know I've been remiss in posting this review nine months later, but now I can say the roof held up perfectly through the rains we finally had. What made me think of writing this review was that I was in the middle of doing my taxes and remembered that Chris told me that there is a tax credit for the cool (light blue) Eagle roof tiles I chose and for the energy efficient skylight. I went back to my email and sure enough, Chris had sent the certifications as attachments. Just another nice touch and a nice tax credit! I would recommend Weathermaster unconditionally to anyone looking for a re-roof. I obtained three quotes at the time and although Weathermaster was in the middle in terms of price, be sure to compare apples with apples, such as the quality of the underlayment, vents, etc. Plus, how many owners are up on the roof with the other workers? Just a great experience.
Description of Work: Weathermaster Roofing Services did a complete re-roof last summer with brand new tiles, vents, skylights... the works!

Got bids from 4 of the top roofers on Angies, to replace the roof on our Mira Mesa asphalt shingle roof. This selection was based on number of years in business, review grade, and content of reviews. Excluding one, the bids were fairly close but what made Weather Master Roofing (WMR) stand out was the fact the owner (Chris) was actually in the crew, doing the job. It is difficult to impress how significant this is. i have worked with roofing crews a few summers in my youth, so i had some idea what i was getting into. Contacted WMR and agreed on a time to start. Of course everyone else in this town seemed to be wanting a new roof at the same time; i was told by someone that Feb. is the start of "roofing's" busiest season. Fortunately we had no leaks i was aware of but i didn't need any professional roofer to tell me the shingles on the original part of the house were "shot." i nervously watched the weather forecasts. We had to delay the actual start by a day, as they found more roof repairs than expected with the previous job. Life is like roofing, ... you never know what you are going to find til you take up the shingles. This delay was no big deal. The crew showed up bright and early as planned. With a crew of 12, they attacked our shingles like a whirlwind. It sounded like what I imagine a herd of buffalo on the roof would sound. i could clearly hear grit and debris falling onto the sheetrock ceiling, in attic areas where there is no insulation. (The garage looked like it rained grit, but Chris and half his crew warned me about this repeatedly up to the start of the roof removal - asking if anything needed to be covered.) Starting at 7am, they had the entire roof denuded of shingles by 11am! There were numerous layers of shingles (easily over an inch thick) on top of 3/8-ths plywood. (i had to cut an opening in the old original part of the roof for access into one of the roof additions. i am saving one of these pieces, as my Dad does not believe anyone would use 3/8ths ply or re-roof that many layers of shingles.) Once all this stuff was removed, i imagine the house lifted a little. Roofing materials were delivered directly from the supplier - shingles, underlayment, torch-down material, whirlygig-vents, etc. It was obvious there was not going to be any salvaged material sold to me as new. Approximately half the original crew left and went to another roof removal. Chris and his remaining crew immediately started fixing improperly-installed/dangerous areas of plywood ? corner areas of the plywood where the edge did not land on the top of a rafter-truss. It is very fortunate nobody stepped on any of these areas during the roof removal. From teh start to the finish, they were very careful to get all the debris up (esp. nails). Heard the owner coaching a new employee, in which he explained that his philosophy was to clean as you go, rather than save everything til the end, when you are tired. Someone walked the perimeter of the house repeatedly while the removal was in progress and at the end. Early the next morning Chris and crew returned. In this house, there have been 2 or 3 roof modifications, resulting in a valley (picture an "M"). The previous owner had problems with leaks in this area so this area was of particular interest to me. Chris and his right-hand-man(?) focused on what i call the "V" of the "M". The previous owner had what is called a "cricket" built to address the leaking. This low pitch platform is apparently a common solution for this type problem. In this instance, as Chris said, it appeared that they started with a plan but once they neared the end, didn't know how to finish it. All this old "cricket" was torn out and a gradual sloping incline put in its place all the way to the edge of the roof. I was paying particular attention to this ?cricket,? and Chris accommodated several of my requests (ex.: replacing some of the plywood, additional blocking support). Once this platform was in place, his right-hand-man installed what they called ?torch-down.? This was a multi-layer system of rolled rubber type material, covered by another rolled tar/rubber material with grit embedded on the top side. The guy putting this stuff down was clearly an expert. He made it all look easy, as without hesitation he knew just where to cut the seams, perforations and creases and then rejoin them with his ?wand-flamer? to create a continuous 3-sided ?pan? with the thick rubber. He then repeated the process with the rolled grit. This torch-down material doesn?t last as long as the shingles but am confident it was installed as well as can be. While I was watching the ?torch-down,? Chris and his crew were replacing damaged wood (mostly along the eaves), installing underlayment, and the like. By the end of the afternoon the entire roof was covered with the Corning underlayment (this is much better stuff than the 30 pound tar paper used in my youth). At this point i breathed a sigh of relief, knowing we were protected from any light rain. In the following days, the new whirly-gigs, shingles, drip-edge, etc. went on the roof. My attention then went to the skylights - I was very pleased with the attention to detail given the flashing for these (3x). Though the skylights are currently ok, Chris told me what to look for as they get older (hairline cracks in the corners). They also put a rolled rubber material with adhesive on one side, in all the valleys. Apparently this is not the norm. in this area and is an added expense. This is something we use on the East coast where it rains a lot. Chris spoke very highly of the material during the installation, saying if one were to cover the entire roof with it, you wouldn?t need to bother with the roof again. When the job was complete, Chris asked me if I wanted to keep the unused material or have him take it off my hands. This was unusual in that most trades we used in the remodel (ex. Tile), kept any unused materials without asking. Everything was completed about 4 days before the rains. We got several significant rains, and when possible I went into the attic spaces and looked for leaks. No leaks were to be found but am confident if there ever were a problem, Chris would attend to it without hesitation. Weather Master Roofing (Chris and his crew) were very professional, quality oriented, cleaned up well, respected my property, and did an excellent job. A quality job was my core concern but as an added benefit, they were reasonably priced. I would not hesitate to call them when I have any roofing needs or suggest them to others.

Great! Showed up on time - Finished up in less than a day - Cleaned up after - Chris (The Owner) very personable and not pushy! The reason for the re-roof was that I was having solar panels installed the next week. Chris was was concerned about the attachment points to the roof and asked me to send me a picture of the method of attachment to be sure that the roof wouldn't leak! I talked with the the solar company and sent Chris pictures to him. He said it looked good! You would never know that I had a re-roof except for the new roof. The crew was Great! Quick and efficient but took the time to answer all the questions I had! Most Excellent!

Chris and his team were so professional, punctual, and responsive. They were also very flexible, working with us around having the exterior of the home painted at the same time. We noticed one tile that needed repair after the job was complete and they came back within a few hours to fix that as well. I would recommend Chris without hesitation.

Bottom line up front: The owner, Chris, is a trustworthy and experienced roofer who?s business is fairly priced, and responsive to your needs. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WEATHERMASTER ROOFING. I spent weeks researching roofing companies in the SoCal area on Angie?s List and anywhere else that had reviews to read. My biggest concern was the new Title 24 ?cool roof? requirements that had recently taken effect ? I was concerned how much cost this was going to add onto an already costly home repair/improvement. My next concern was overall cost of the project ? getting the best craftsmanship and quality for my money ? any homeowner?s concern for a total re-roof. For my house, we were able to get an exemption from the city for the cool reroof title 24 requirement because my HVAC system meet the title 24 HERS standards. That saved us about $1,500 in ?low-e? thermal underlayment. I was only able to pursue this exemption because Chris had done his research on the new law?s requirements and informed me of some of the exemptions. All other contractors that gave me estimates didn?t even bother to research the requirements and ask about the specifics of my house, they just told me I had to do the ?Low-E? underlayment to meet title 24 cool roof, adding at LEAST $1500 to the cost. Chris Wilder and his company Weathermaster Roofing was OUTSTANDING ? totally earned my trust throughout the entire project; from the first walk thru and estimate to project start, finish and receiving the final bill. Chris was extremely responsive to all of my questions, concerns and needs. Not only did Chris? first estimate come in WAY under the other five estimates I received from Angie?s List businesses, (the closest other estimate w/o ?Low-E? was $2,000 more) but Chris, as the owner, was literally the project lead on re-roofing my house. He spent the majority of his time throughout the week on my roof, ensuring every detail of the job met his standards and mine(both very high, and the end result shows it). I was out of town for the most critical portion of the job (in my opinion) ? the first and second day when most of the unidentified issues below the old shingles are identified and then fixed based on what you want as the owner. Without prompting him, Chris took tons of pictures throughout demo and emailed them to me so I could see what decking he replaced and the amount of work that was being done ? I have difficulty trusting contractors, but again, throughout the job, Chris earned my trust at every opportunity. Chris warranties his work and the shingles come with Owens Corning preferred warranty since Weathermaster is certified OC roofers. He also gave us the option to purchase the materials straight from his supplier at the beginning of the job to save a few hundred bucks. He also responds to your emails within a few hours ? you wont get that from many other contractors. All of that, coupled with the final cost is why I?ll recommend Chris and Weathermaster Roofing to anyone. I also thought it was cool that it?s a family owned and operated local east county business. Chris? wife runs the office and his son works for him on the job.

Contacted Chris as he had installed vents for my daughter, and he had great reviews on Angie's List. Was right on time to do the estimate, and we contracted for him to do the install a few days later. Again, Chris showed up on time, with his helper, and went right to work. While he was installing the dormers, he noticed a couple of minor issues an corrected them at no charge, even though I offered to pay. He also pointed out a couple of potential issues, explained the impact and needed work, and then told me how I could do it myself. Needless to say, I was impressed. Would definitely use his services again.

i solicited a total of 5 estimates for a reroof job on my 3 bedroom single story home. Weathermaster Roofing was one of the estimators. Chris, the owner, did the estimating in my home. Completely professional start to finish. His estimate was not the cheapest and not the most expensive. i thoroughly reviewed the estimate, cost and quality of materials, job details to be performed and time frame to complete. Using the "BestValue" concept Weathermaster won my business. The professionalism, knowledge level and presentation performed by Chris put him over the top. Anxious to get the job started and finished of course, we waited patiently. The wait was more than 'well worth it"! If you are in the market for a new roof, do not pass over an estimate from Weathermaster. Extremely satisfied and highly recommended.

Chris was very responsive and provided a through review of the condition of our roof and estimate to replace it. He walked us through the choice of materials and options such as venting etc. He is clearly proud and passionate about his profession and the work Weathermaster does, and the results reflect that passion and attention to detail. We had some tight schedules and Chris and team were able to meet the schedules. Chris and his team conducted themselves very professionally during the roof rip off and reinstall for our home and they treated it as a home not just another house! We had some challenges during the process... Chris provided an updated estimate and did not nickel and dime us for every issue uncovered but worked with us to resolve them. The results at my home are better than expected. I not only have no reservation providing a recommendation, I have already referred Weathermaster to a friend who is equally pleased. .

prior to arriving met to choose a new roof system. I love the low profile roof vents so much better than the ugly roof-top whirly vents that Chris introduced. Safety is my priority always and I was happy to see safety harness being put on during delivery of material. They showed up on time, took care of permits, provided protection for surrounding area prior to tear off, maintained a clean environment for my pups and finished when promised. Good communication throughout entire process. You don't find many honest contractors by chance! Thanks Angie's List for introducing me to Weathermaster Roofing Services. We had a 20 year old concrete tile roof that needed new underlayment. We found out that while concrete tiles are guaranteed for 50 years, the underpayment is not and often must be replaced after 20 years or so. The original installer used one layer of 20 pound felt which had deteriorated. We were installing a rooftop solar electric system and so wanted to make sure the roof would not need to be redone in the future. So a re-layment with 2 layers of synthetic felt and replacement of broken tiles was in order. We had also just had the house tented for termites and thought we had replaced all damaged wood, but Weathermaster found some additional wood that needed to be replaced. Chris Wilder from Weathermaster was perfect. He communicated with us via email in a timely manner, coordinated with our solar installer to match up his work with theirs, and installed the solar panel standoffs at the same time as he re-roofed our home. He found additional termite damage and replaced that wood, he even emailed pictures of the work he had to do to replace termite damaged wood. Weathermaster corrected a slope issue on the original roof and installed drip edges, Weathermaster calculated roof venting and installed additional vents to bring our roof up to current code requirements. It is nice when the contractor always answers your emails and keeps communicating with you the entire time. Chris was very professional, the job site was always kept clean, the work was done in a timely fashion, and appears to be first rate. I am very satisfied with his teams work and recommend Weathermaster without hesitation.

Bottom line: Excellent work, professionally and courteously done. Chris Wilder (Weathermaster Roofing's owner) was one of three top-rated roofers I interviewed to re-roof my home. Chris' quote was very competitive, and he provided information and brochures for the exact high-quality materials he would use. Chris and his crew completely removed two layers of old roofing, replaced old damaged wood in several places and installed the new roof. I appreciated that the material was delivered directly to my home by the supplier with no price markup. The crew protected my yard and landscaping with tarps during removal of the old roof and were careful to clean up, including using a wheeled magnet to pick up any nails that might have fallen to the ground. Chris was courteous and responsive, answering all my questions before the job started and during the project. I am very pleased with my experience with Weathermaster Roofing and would definitely recommend this company to others.

Our old roof had two layers of shingles and was in pretty bad shape. The quote we received from Weathemaster Roofing Services was by far the most competitive. Chris was on the job site from beginning to end. He and his crew were extremely professional and friendly. He really listened to us and made excellent recommendations about different product options. He told us exactly how the process would go and it went exactly as planned. Our roof and all the added equipment looks wonderful! One of my neighbors saw the quality of Chris' work and is now having his roof done, too. Finding a contractor with Chris' type of work ethic is rare these days. We feel that they went above and beyond when completing our project. I will definitely recommend them in the future!

I received an immediate reply that they were booked for the next month so feel free to get bids from others. They did a good job, cleaned up and all was done on time. They gave options and price variations in the initial meeting, then set a date and did the work, came back and cleaned up. I couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: They re-roofed the house and garage with a better quality shingle. Theirs was the most economical bid.

We called Chris out for an estimate, and he gave us a very competitive price. Chris is professional, honest, and trustworthy. He is also very accommodating. When we were deciding on shingle colors, he came over on a Saturday with the samples we requested, took them up on the roof and held them in position while we (including our neighbors :) decided on a color choice. His communication is excellent, telling us when the work would begin, and how long it would take to complete the project. They were right on target. I might add that Chris was on site every day working!! And it was hot with temperatures pushing one hundred. All the roofers on site were courteous and hard working. Each day the site was left "broom finish" clean. We were so impressed with the finished product. The roofing vents were painted to match the shingle color, with shingles placed on top of the vents to camouflage the metal. They installed new drip edge flashing at entire roof perimeter, prepared the roof surface with a vapor barrier 30 year warranty, installed and painted new galvanized flashings, all vent pipes, and skylights. Everything looks perfect! We highly recommend Chris and his team to anyone looking for any roof work.
