Other than the light rain that fell between stripping the old roof and installing the new one, it couldn't have gone any smoother. Chris and his crew showed up at 7 am and were cleaned up, done and gone by noon the next day, and that included installing new attic turbines and replacement of some rotten boards. Weathermaster used quality materials and the workers were professional, courteous and friendly. We had two different sources recommend Weathermaster to us and we will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone we know with roofing needs.
Description of Work: During the last rains we had multiple roof leaks. We called out three different roofing contractors for bids. The first showed up and charged us $250 for the estimate. He then gave us a price of $5200 to repair the leaks. The second company didn't seem to want the job. Chris from Weathermaster showed up and shared his expertise and thoughts on repair vs. reroof. We opted to reroof at a cost of less than $3000 more than the first guy wanted just to make repairs.

The work done by Chris's team at Weathermaster was top notch! They were on time, professional, quick, honest and high quality. I cannot describe how impressed I was with their whole operation. From the first bid, to the last invoice everything was coordinated and excellent. If you are looking for a team to do roofing on your house, Weathermaster should be your first call. I was fortunate to have been recommended to Weathermaster by Regal Concepts and Designs (our General Contractor). They did a re-roof over existing for our 1600 sq ft house and it took about 2 days. Great work Weathermaster team!

I started with 3 quotes through Home Advisor to replace a 35 year old concrete tile roof on our house of 2 yrs after we noticed some leaks. The roof was in bad shape, especially around 3 existing skylights, and appeared to be improperly installed and/or repaired. #1 used a satellite photo of my roof to give me a very low $10K quote. After speaking with the other 2 salesmen, I tossed that one immediately. #2 gave a $25K estimate to "lift and re-lay" the existing tile. When I asked about the cost of new tile, he said it would be about twice as much and when I asked about replacing the skylights, he said they would install them if I supplied the new ones. He also didn't hesitate to throw out other things I should consider doing to the house as they were actually a home improvement company and not a roofing company. #3 was a bit confusing, but gave me a "lift and re-lay" quote for $15K, and then had another $5K of recommended "upgrades". He said replacing the tile would be about $20K and another $5K if I wanted the upgrades. He also started to push solar and told me about all the benefits and tax credits I could get even though I didn't ask for any info on solar. While both of them sounded good at the time, and were convincing on why I should select them, my gut said to get another estimate so I started asking around work and one of my co-workers suggested Angie's list( I wasn't a member at the time). I looked on her account and started reading the reviews and ultimately reached out to Weathermaster. I was told that Chris, the owner, does all the quotes himself, but it would be a couple weeks before he could make it out to my house for an estimate because of how busy they were, and another 4-6 weeks to get started if I chose Weathermaster. At this point I had a tarp over the leaky section of roof and El Nino was turning out to be a dud, so I waited until Chris was able to come out and give me an estimate. He looked at the roof and flat out said it would be too much work for him to "lift and re-lay" the existing tile and he wouldn't even quote that option. This worried me initially because I figured it would mean a high quote. I received a quote a couple days later for $18K for the roof and $1350 for 3 new skylights. I then called the office and spoke to Chris' wife and asked how much more $ the roofing material would cost thinking the $18K was just for labor. She laughed a little and said that their quotes include all the roofing material. I compared all 3 quotes again and noticed that on top of the best price, Weathermaster also had twice the warranty as the others, so I proceeded to sign the contract. They started a month later and had it not been for my indecision on the tile color, would have been finished within a couple weeks(except for the skylights which weren't "standard" and had to be special ordered). All is completed now, I'm a member of Angie's List and I couldn't be happier. Chris and his crew were great to work with, did a fantastic job and the roof looks great. I am confident that it will outlast me.

Chris Wilder was prompt in giving an estimate and gave a fair price compared to others' roofing estimates. He was able to start the project ahead of time and completed it on time. His workers cleaned up and left the job site in great condition. The roofing job was of a very professional quality. He kept us up to date on the project's progress and made fair adjustments to the cost for additional work we requested. He was very accommodating of our scheduling requests as we had renters that we had to consider. The overall experience of working with Chris was great. He was cooperative, considerate and respectful in all of our dealings. We were very pleased with Chris and his employees. We would definitely hire them again.

I was upgrading a 40 year old roof system to current thermal barrier standards, as much as reasonably possible. After doing my research, I discovered this would involve, a proper ridge vent; a thermal sheet barrier over the entire roof; blown in attic insulation; and sealing of the air holes between the attic and living area. I work out of my home, and keeping it cool in the summer without huge electric bills for cooling was my goal. Chris Wilder, owner of Weathermaster Roofing Services, was one of the few roofers who used the proper ridge vent system and understood the difference between a ridge vent that creates a Bernoulli effect to "suck the air" out of the attic and the other ridge vents that are being peddled which work very poorly or not at all - but are quick to install. He also was detailed enough to select a ridge vent that was Class A-Fire rated - not all ridge vents are Class A-Fire rated. Again, most of the roofers weren't concerned about this detail. Chris was one of the few roofers who was familiar with the benefits of Low-E Thermal Sheet barrier being placed over the entire roof, under the shingles. Chris personally did the initial walk around inspection for the job bid and personally oversaw the crew that performed the roof repair. He was present and actively participating/supervising the job. Both he and his crew were very knowledgeable and detail oriented. Every time there was an issue/surprise that presented itself - and there were a few - Chris and the crew made sure the matter was repaired/installed correctly. The removal of the old roof and new roof install with ridge vent was $6500 and the Low-E Thermal Sheet barrier and blown in insulation were about $3,600. From that total, actual material costs were $3,477.90. The pricing was very fair. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive. During the job he did not nickel and dime me to death nor did he try and hurry up to get the job done. Cleanup of the ground and gutters was done perfectly. There is a lot of mess that is made when tearing off an old roof, and Chris uses a dedicated clean-up crew for this purpose. They were fast and thorough. Chris is unique in providing an itemized bill of materials. This allowed me to see the actual material costs as compared to labor costs and also let me see the quality of the materials being used. This was a great up-front practice and a big deal. I paid the building suppler directly for the materials ($3,477.90) and was able to get points on my credit card for the transcation! Weathermaster's warranty was actually better than most of the bids I received, at 20 years for labor/workmanship. The roofing shingle warranty was standard at 25-30 years, or limited lifetime warranty on the shingles. All roofing shingle manufacturers' limited lifetime warranties are a joke. What your really looking for is a quality install, with a high wind rating - mine is rated at 130 mph and a long warranty by the installer as to labor/workmanship - here 20 years. In summary, I would use Chris/Weathermaster again and recommend Weathermaster without reservation. In my opinion he is really the only ball-game in town to do what I wanted done - applying current state of the art practices to an older structure. I interviewed six or seven roof contractors before selecting Weathermaster. That was an unusually high number of vetting, but it was required because the bids were not accomplishing the goal I had set out for this project. Actually, Chris was the last one to make a bid. I have received no compensation or discount for this review nor was I asked to make a review.
Description of Work: Removed existing one layer of asphalt shingle roofing material down to roof deck. Installed: Owen's Corning Energy Efficient rated Duration asphalt shingles; Low-E Thermal Sheet barrier over entire roof under shingles; Lomanco "Omni-ridge" ridge vent (Class A-Fire rated); Attic Cat R-30 Blown-in insulation; Repaired roof plywood subfloor damage (5'x5') and removed attic spinner vent and replace plywood subfloor (8'x8'); Repaired chimney stucco to flashing defect when house built; New flashing and paint.

The contractor did an excellent job. He and his crew were timely, efficient. Kept us informed of all the work and progress. Very thorough. Very professional. Kept in constant communication with the solar panel contractor who was installing solar panels when the new roof was complete. Following the solar panel installation, Weather Master checked the roof for any holes and penetrations made by the solar contractor and covered them with more membrane. We were completely satisfied with the work. We have had no leaks following subsequent rains. We would hire Weather Master again and would recommend this company to anyone needing a roofing job.
Description of Work: Overlayed our entire roof. Installed Fiberglass basesheet. Installed Interply membrane over entire roof surface . Repaired/replaced any broken rafters. Installed new flashing. Primed all raw galvanized flashing. Covered all flashing with Interply membrane.Installed solid bead of flashing compound around vents and corners. Hauled away all debris. Reinspected roof after solar panels were installed to patch and cover any holes with membrane that were made by the solar contractor.

Because we had not yet moved into our new home (which is in another state), everything was doing via phone & email. It couldn't have gone more smoothly, and this was during a time when Chris was especially busy. In addition, when I came into town more recently, it was determined that an exhaust pipe was incorrectly put in place by the previous homeowner's furnace installers, the repair of which required a follow-up visit by a roofer. Chris saved the day, coming out to our home with only a few hours notice and managing things so that the work was finished within 24 hours! [Note: the $750 cost mentioned above was for the first repair of the roof; I don't yet know the charges for the furnace-related repairs. From my earlier experience with Chris, I expect the cost to be reasonable. ] Bottom line: I cannot recommend Weathermaster Roofing Services more highly!!!

Chris showed up for our assessment on time and was ready to give me as much information as I was looking for. We ended up talking for 2 hours and going over all sorts of different options as well of work outside of his scope that would help make our home more energy efficient. He was very honest and willing to go over all of my questions, concerns, and even shared some stories together about unrelated subjects. He is everything we were looking for; local family business, roofs as well as manages the business, honest, does not mark up material pricing because of El Nino (in fact does not mark up at all so you pay for the labor and not additional material mark ups), and he is just an overall great person. We are looking forward to having him come and make our house look better as well as be more energy efficient and leak proof. Thank you so much Chirs, I will be highly recommending you to anyone I know that needs roofing work done.

Chris came to our house and gave us a complete estimate. The price was thousands less than the other roofer we brought in, but I believed we would get the same high quality service - and we did. They scheduled the job right away and got it done punctually. It took two days total, just as promised. Chris was on the job site to answer my questions. Once they completed they clean up the mess that is made from this type of job. The house looks much better and I feel better with the anticipate El Nino rains. I highly recommend Weather Master Roofing!

I originally contacted this company on 1/7/16 to get an estimate for a new roof on my home and was told at that time that the estimator would not be able to see me until today 1/15/2016 - 8 days later and that is just to get an estimate. No telling how long it might be before the work could be done. And I am not looking at repairs only or some small patch job but an entire new roof at a cost of probably $15-20K. But then this morning (day of the estimate) I get a voicemail telling me that he (the estimator) would not be able to make it to my house today (the day that was agreed to) but he would be able to "fit me in" tomorrow morning (Saturday morning) at 7 AM. The scheduler lady that left the voicemail then has the nerve to tell me 3 times during the message that the appointment will "only take an hour" and that he is just going to be too far away today to make it by 4 PM but he could be here tomorrow morning because he has another appointment just down the street from me. I know exactly what that means. It means that he wants to re-schedule me because the other person "just down the street from me" insisted on a Saturday morning appointment so Chris (the estimator) wants to try to do both back to back so that he doesn't have to come to the same area on 2 different days. So, even though I have been scheduled for 8 days I was put in the position of having to re-schedule to fit Chris' time needs. No thanks. Then the scheduler/dispatcher has the nerve to call me back after I left a voicemail explaining that I was very upset about this whole thing and that Weathermaster could just forget it. But no she wanted to argue with me that they were just trying to please me and fit me in. But the way that it has been handled so far does not instill any confidence in me about doing any business with this company. I have to wonder what it would be like through the process. Would I have tiles sitting stacked on my roof for months after delivery waiting to be installed while one excuse after another would be given for delays and I would only get voicemails when I call?

Response from Weathermaster Roofing Services
Mr. [Member Name Removed], To get straight to the point, you are 100% correct. I asked Yolanda to contact you, to re-schedule ( the morning of the appointment, that was set for 4pm) , so it would be more efficient. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately waiting another 14hrs, was just to much for you. Thats OK, not a problem. Im am very happy the appointment was eliminated after hearing your tone, and the way you spoke to Yolanda over the phone, I was actually standing right next to her collecting some paperwork when she called you back after your message . You were EXTREMELY RUDE! and all she was doing was trying to explain the situation to you, while still being a professional during the rude attitude you were presenting. I hope that you feel good about yourself. You seem to be a pretty angry person, with a very self-righteous attitude. Weathermaster Roofing Services, would not have been a good fit for you, at all. Sincerely, Chris Wilder Weathermaster Roofing Services

It was about as wonderful an experience as dealing with a roof leak could have been. Chris has a great personality and really understands roofing. I would recommend him to family and friends without hesitation. The roof above the general area where the leak was occurring was a combination of several different planes coming together, complete with a turret and an overhang. Where the leak was found was under the overhang, in a narrow area that was very difficult to access. My house -- a tract home -- was built very quickly. It is pretty obvious that a shortcut was taken in building the roof because this area was so difficult to access. Chris reached in there and fixed it. Chris was not the first roofer that I'd called for an estimate. The first roofer that I'd called went up on the roof and, when he came back down, told me what (he thought) needed to be done -- without doing a leak test. He just spent some time looking at the roof and then later sent me a much higher price quote than what Chris charged me. Chris is honest, skilled and hard working. He told me up front exactly what he was going to do, and what he told me made complete sense. I had insufficient confidence in the first roofer to give him the job. Price was NOT the deciding factor. This was my first experience with Angie's List and it will definitely not be my last.
Description of Work: I have absolutely no doubt that Chris successfully found the source of my roof leak -- which was due to a problem with the original construction of my house -- and then he fixed it really well. To find the roof leak, Chris explained to me that he needed to perform a leak test. While he stood inside my house and watched for the leak to begin (the drywall in the ceiling had already been opened up by a remediation company), his associate systematically applied water to the roof. As soon as it began to leak they stopped applying the water. They had found the leak. Then they fixed it and tried the water test again. This time there was no leak.

In the past I had found it difficult to get an honest evaluation of the condition of the roof because most roofers in San Diego just want to sell you a new roof. This all changed when I had the good fortune to find Chris Wilder of Weathermaster Roofing. I have used Weathermaster for several projects over the past 4 years including major repairs for a residential pitched roof and a flat commercial roof complex. What?s great about Chris is that besides giving you a thorough inspection and detailed trouble shooting, you can trust that the recommendations given are intelligent, efficient, honest, and truthful. He is the most ethical contractor I have ever worked with. He is an experienced roofer with over 30 years of experience in roof construction. His knowledge base of roofing is extensive and he has earned the title of ?Roof Geek?. It is his true passion. Whether you need a new roof or are repairing the existing one, the quality of the workmanship is excellent. He doesn?t cut any corners, his prices are very reasonable, and he never tries to upsell. The best part is that the work execution is organized and goes smoothly with a minimum of stresses. It?s a family run company, so the service is very personal and you develop an ongoing relationship. Chris has become our go to ?Roof Doctor? and it?s been a very valuable and rewarding relationship to have a professional with his level of expertise to rely on. Chris pays attention to both the function and the aesthetic details of the roof. In my 29 years of residing in San Diego, all the roofing problems I have seen (both commercial and residential) have been due to construction defects from the original builder cutting corners or using poor judgment. The roofing industry is unfortunately rife with companies that don?t follow correct procedure in the fundamentals of roof construction. Considering the expense of remediation from roof leaks, the roof is the worst place for a builder to cut corners. Thankfully, Weathermaster was able to remedy all our roof leaks originating from the original faulty construction. After the problems we?ve experienced with defects in construction, it would be an awesome privilege to have someone like Chris be the original builder of our next new roof, because I know he would construct it in the way that it should be done. It?s a major investment, so you want the construction to be correct the first time for a long lasting, trouble-free future. I give this advice as someone who has been involved in fixing the past mistakes of several previous roofers. When you hire a roofer, you want someone who is going to be attentive and smart about the construction. I would love to keep Weathermaster as my best kept secret, but I think others with similar problems will benefit greatly.
Description of Work: Roof maintenance repairs and replacement of 64 leaking skylights with new ones in a large commercial flat roof complex consisting of multiple buildings. When a previous roofing company had placed a second roof, they covered over all the existing skylights with caulk instead of properly removing and reinstalling the skylights. This resulted in multiple leaking skylights several years later due to the caulk separating from the expansion/contraction of the skylights. Weathermaster was called to fix this problem created by the previous roofer.

This project went flawlessly in every respect. Chris, the owner, made time in his company's busy schedule to fit this job in. He did this as an accommodation because he knew that I was having a solar system installed and that I did not want the roof replacement to hold up the solar system installation. Chris was referred to me by Sullivan Solar. For reasons I now fully appreciate, the folks at Sullivan spoke very highly of Chris. I took three bids on this job. One was a couple of thousand dollars less, but his quote was vague and he did not have the vast experience Chris does in dealing with solar installers. One bid was about $10,000 higher, with similar specifications. When Chris came to my house to evaluate the project he took the time (probably an hour or more) to explain exactly what he recommended and why. While I certainly am not capable of installing a roof, at least I now understand much better the process -- and what it takes to do a first rate job (without breaking the bank). I could hardly believe how efficient Chris and his team were. First, Chris WAS THERE, ON SITE almost every minute of the project. He even showed up on a very hot Saturday on the last day of the project, by himself, to take care of small details that I would not have even noticed. The roof came off literally in a few hours -- done before noon. Watching Chris and his crew install the new roof was like watching a finely choreographed performance. Everyone seemed to know exactly what was expected of him, and without exception they all "turned to" in getting the job done without glitches of any kind. We had a roof replaced a couple of years ago on a rental property and while the roofer did a fine job, the difference between that roofing job and the one at our house is a "day and night" comparison (good versus excellent). I have only left three reviews on the internet, ever. This is my third one. I took the time to write this review both in a modest attempt to thank Chris for his stellar work, his great attitude (how he still had a sense of humor after spending an entire day on my roof in the sweltering sun is beyond me) and to let you, the savvy reader, know that you need look no further than Weatermasters for unparalleled service at a most reasonable price. We could not be happier with our new roof!! THANKS, CHRIS!! Phil (La Mesa, CA)
Description of Work: Removed ancient roof, consisting of 3-4 layers on a 1,600 sq. ft. house, plus a porch of approximately 1,000 sq. ft. Replaced with Owens Corning shingles and torch down material on the South side. Some plywood replacement. New vents. New facie. New flashing. Reinforced parts of the porch roof (without charge). A complete, professional job. Coordinated with Sullivan Solar in the installation of posts for mounting solar hardware. Complete cleanup.

everything happened as promised; the whole process was very smooth from start to finish and completely adhered to the timeframes that Chris Wilder laid out for us. They were very professional and hard-working. They cleaned up after leaving very little trace that they had been there except we had a new roof at the end of it all. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: stripped off the old roof, replaced some fascia boards and painted them. Made special installation around skylights to ensure rainwater would sluice around them properly (previous roofer had not done that causing the roof to fail), installed an energy star rated roof.

Fairly priced, did not do unnecessary work that other contractor had proposed, on time, used correct materials which matched roof tiles. Would hire again.

Chris promptly gave me a detailed written quote. The price was reasonable. When I gave the go ahead, he scheduled a date for the work which was met. The new roof appears to be excellent and was done in only one day.
Description of Work: On home addition, removed old roof and replaced.

Chris was very punctual on both giving me a bid as well as sticking to the set time of getting the job done. I was very concerned with having the roofs covered because it was during the rainy season. He took care of having everything covered well. A freak and uncalled for storm came one night, and Chris made an extra trip that night to make sure everything was well protected. During the daytime I had to work, so I wasn't always there to see the job getting done. However, two of my neighbors commented on how professional his team was! He cleaned up well and the roofs look great!
Description of Work: A new roof was put on both the house and a separate garage.

Chris (Owner) came out and gave us the estimate, thoroughly explaining the entire process and how the job would proceed. He is very easy to deal with and definitely a straight shooter...we had room in the bid for significant growth as I thought there was rot under the shingles. Once he got the old roof material off he determined the sheeting did not need to be replaced as I had expected. He repaired some rotted shiplap along the perimeter in a couple of areas as I was expecting. His tear-off crew showed up later in the afternoon and removed the old roof (again, 2 layers), then cleaned up and put down the underlayment. They showed up early in the morning the next day and installed the starter layer, shingles, edging, new flashing, etc. 100% professional and obviously takes pride in what he does...this is a family operation run by an extremely knowledgeable, personable and professional owner. I unreservedly recommend Chris and his Weathermaster team (I have already given his card to two of my neighbors). When I get rich, I will definitely call on Chris for all the roofing needs of my real estate empire.
Description of Work: Remove two layers of old roofing material, install new roof on single family residence.

Chris and his crew did a wonderful job with demo and the roof. He was extremely mindful of weather and they completed the job in three days. They did an excellent job cleaning up also. After speaking with several roofers, Chris gave us the most reasonable price.

Chris and his team completed a re-roof on our rental house in Santee in 1 day, far exceeding our expectations. We had 3 roofing contractors do quotes, and we chose Weathermaster because of the good reviews on Angie's List, their 15 yr. warranty on labor/workmanship was better than the others, they gave us an option to buy our own building permit which we did saving us $, as well as their $ estimate was the best of all the contractors. The new shingles look great and Chris was a pleasure to work with, providing us detailed email updates and photos of the roof in progress, since we were not able to be there in person during the construction. Highly recommend Chris Wilder and Weathermaster Roofing Services!

Everything went really smooth. Chris is extremely thorough. He explained to me what had to be done (and why). The work was completed in one day (as advertised). We were very impressed!
Description of Work: Locate source of roof leaks and detected faulty workmanship of existing valley flashing. Chris gave me an extremely competitive quote to pull up existing tile, replace plywood substrate/ flashing and replaced roof tile.
