If I could give them 10 stars I would! My best friend recommended J&L to me. She and her husband were very happy with their work. First, April came out and did a thorough assessment of my attic space and listened to my needs. She was patient and answered all my questions. She sent me the proposal, and it was a very good price. I spoke to her and she explained everything very clearly. Today Jeff and Tristan came to my home for spray insulation. I'm very happy with them and the service they provided. They were thoughtful/conscientious and asked me to remove runners and artwork to protect everything. Then they ran plastic down the entire hallway/work area. They were fast too! After they finished they suggested I look up in the attic to see their work. So I did. From my novice eyes, I could see they followed the proposal, using batting where specified between wall openings, attic opening and glued it on the attic door. Then they cleaned up! Wow! The entire experience was awesome! All 3 were very professional and so nice! I highly recommend J&L and will tell my friends and family. I'm looking forward to a cooler home during this heat from summer. Thank you!

Description of Work: Increased insulation in our attic after installation of new a/c. Very pleased with their work, especially because they caught a mistake in how the a/c ducting had been installed (which Anderson came back and fixed the same day).

Quote Estimator Lady came to house, was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Stated they use tarps and plastic to keep the insulation removal and install contained, and from dirtying the walls and floors (which is not what actually happened). We wanted our insulation removed because we know we had a rat problem and lots of droppings. Estimator Lady said she didn?t think we needed it removed but would quote it anyway. The quote was in-line with one other quote we received; our third quote was a specialty vendor and was $2k more. We choose to move forward with the removal and install of new insulation based on other's reviews of the company. Removal I was immediately put-off by the customer service of the removal team. I answered the door and Guy A asked if he could use the bathroom. Then a second guy asked to use the bathroom. There was no real introduction or discussion of how the job was going to work. I asked Guy A if he would be using tarps to protect the floor, he said they do but he forgot them. I said he could borrow mine. This was irritating because Estimator Lady said they use lots of tarps to protect the floor and walls from the hoses and to keep things clean. Then I asked Guy A about the plastic that goes around the attic entry, he said he?s never used it before. Again, this was irritating because Estimator Lady said they put an ET type protector thing around the opening to keep everything clean. Third, Guy A asked if he could borrow our step ladder since he only had an 8 foot ladder, sure. At this point I was concerned the job was not going to go well. Later that day, Guy A asked to borrow our duct tape because he ran out. I called and left a message with the company's answering machine, voicing my concern. I did not get a call back from them regarding these issues. I knew there were rat droppings in the attic, and I am certain Estimator Lady did not warn the workers of this. I could here them gruffing and swearing in frustration in the attic about rat droppings, and how he?s going to run out of bags. After the initial issues, I could hear them vacuuming and making progress. It seemed as if they were spending a good amount of time making sure everything was removed properly. Although in the end my husband would give them a B- for effort in the removal. They worked until about 2:30pm and did about ¾ the removal. Guy A said he needed to leave for the dump so they could get there by 4pm.He said they would be by in the morning to finish up and the install guys should take 1-2 hours. Later the Project Manager called and said they will finish the removal on Day 2, then spray the decontamination spray, let that sit over the weekend, then come back for Day 3 to blow-in. I asked, so you can?t do it all tomorrow and he said he has two trucks one is already going one way and the other going the other way, then I started to say something, and he cut in...okay thanks bye (in not those words), but I felt cut off and it was weird. I called right back, got a voicemail box, and left a message to call me about Day 3. Project Manager called back and said he was having phone issues, but I still felt like I was being put-off. Install of new insulation Day 3 was a scheduling issue. At 6:50am Project Manager called, asked to confirm they are blowing-in R30 fiberglass, I said yes. This was irritating because I would assume the Project Manager should know what the job entails. Then he asked what time he said he would be there. I said 8, he said unfortunately he won?t be able to get here until 11am. He had one job cancel, one job change, now has to do one before me, etc. I said so there is no way you can be here at 8, no. I had to re-arrange my work schedule to be there for the whole day instead of the half day as expected. They arrived about 11:30, set up plastic on floor and hoses, and did a quick look around house for vents and recessed lighting to make sure they insulated around these areas. Took about 2 hours, and they ended up being pretty clean inside, although I did sweep the garage and driveway of insulation when they were gone. My husband hasn?t had a chance to crawl up in the attic to check out the install job. Final Thoughts They did an okay job for an expected price. Their customer service could be much better, an introduction when I open the door, and a description of how the process works is important. All materials and supplies should be provided by the contractor, and service should be provided as promised (keeping the house clean and protected). They could have been more detailed in the removal. As far as I can say, the insulation is working, which is expected. I would not recommend them to friends. You never know what you are going to get when you try new contractors despite all the reviews you read.

They did a great job. Showed up on time and finished on time. This was for a rental house we own. The offered to save me some money by suggesting that I could skip the wall between the attached garage and the house since there is some insulating going on there but I went ahead anyway. I used then again on the house we live in..

Description of Work: Insulated the attic. We used them because their bid was detailed and reasonable. Our attic is unusual and several companies either wanted a fortune or didn't explain what the bid would cover. J&L explained what would be hard to insulate, what would be simpler and what it would cost. As for the work itself, it went exactly as expected other than a minor scheduling issue (there was a job before ours and the time the installer was given to do it was about an hour too optimistic).

This company scheduler was very patient in that I had to reschedule several times from my original bid in November due to my jury duty call for all of December. But once they showed up at 8 a.m. sharp on the actual date in January, it was a smooth operation. The two crew members worked in tandem to drill holes in the exterior of the walls of my house and hook up a tube to blow in the cellulose insulation. They didn't even take a lunch, just worked on through until 2 p.m. The next day they showed up at 7:30 a.m. to do the attic and they were done by 10:00 a.m. The jobs were pretty dusty but they were as careful as they could be and cleaned up everything before they left both days. The workers were very cordial and professional, and listened to my concern about running a hose through the front door and hallways to the attic hatch so they agreed with my idea to run it through a nearby bedroom window instead. A good experience overall.

I needed to have rat infested insulation removed from my attic in preparation for a new HVAC system. I will be installing a new HVAC system to replace my approximate 30 year old gas furnace. The attic insulation was probably adequate when it was installed. (Looks as if it had been blown in - probably after the gas furnace was installed in the 80's.). However, the insulation had subsequently settled and was insufficient to properly insulate the attic. In addition, rats had gotten into the attic and infested what little insulation there was. Some HVAC vendors blow in insulation, others do not. So before installing a new HVAC (and insulation) I needed to 1) remove existing rat infested insulation and 2) clear out any rats and prevent further rodent infestation. (See other review regarding pest control). I played phone tag with the estimator a bit, but once April came to review my situation she was very professional and provided a quote in a timely manner. She was also very informative as to where most heat loss occurs etc. The guys who came to remove the insulation were on time and very professional as well. The job took all day. I have to give the workmen a lot of credit. My roof is very low pitched and there is very little space to maneuver. Yet they were still able to get 99% of the insulation out. In addition, they were very competitively priced. They were a little over 1/2 the cost of one of their competitors. So it definitely pays to shop around. I plan on using them to insulate after my HVAC installation and when I blow insulation into my (outside) walls.

They were wonderful. The frist time they came out, they said they recommended that I have the ducts replaced before having the insulation installed. I was impressed by their honestly and delaying the sale when they could have made the sale that day. They did a great job, were professional, and on time.
