Description of Work: A tree fell and knocked out our power lines. When they fixed everything there was a short and the heater wouldn't work so we called them out.

Description of Work: I called Fire and Ice because they are close to my home, I like to patronize businesses in my community first. My AC/Heater appeared to have some type of electrical problem. They responded on time and I was given an $70 estimate to evaluate the problem. I questioned the cost and was was told there were no other cheaper alternative except to call around to look for cheaper price. The Tech found the problems within about five minutes and gave an estimate of $214 to replace the transformer before he could go any further to evaluate the system. He also poInted out two crossed wires on the thermostat. These appeared an easy fix since the fix was in addition to the diagnostic cost of $70. He advised I call back to do a maintenance tune up for an additional $89. I felt like the tech was taking advantage of my ignorance with unreasonable repair cost that didnt neccessarily fix the problem. The tech agreed to only charge me the $44 dianostic charge and not the $70. This after I was told there were no other options......! I bought the transformer myself for less than $20 and installed but still had a problem. I called a different company who replaced the transformer that I shorted out. He also recharged the freon and replaced the filter as well as complete a full diagnostic test of my system. total cost $150. I saved about $300 NOT using Fire n Ice and didnt feel violated afterwords....... This may have been an isolated incident as I have used Fire n Ice before without a problem. However this time there was no doubt that somebody was trying to take advantage of me. Good Luck whatever you do................I did not call Fire n Ice to complain as I did not feel it would have made a difference and I didn't trust them at that point.
