Chimney Sweeps, Inc

This company is underhanded. Chimneys do not have to be brought up to today's codes. Twice they have told me that my fireplace is unsafe to use and quoted $2000+ to repair. Both times I have followed up with a certified chimney sweep who had noted no repairs. I thought I was scheduling with the certified company, but scheduled with Chimney Sweeps again. Never again.

The team was very knowledgeable, punctual, friendly, and efficient. I would recommend them to anyone.

The service call went great! Very nice office staff. Easy to set up convenient appointment time. Received an appointment reminder. Service staff was right on time! They worked diligently and quietly. I will use this company again and would happily refer them to others.

Michael and his assistant arrived right on time. Loved that Michael had on his Chimney Sweep hat! They promptly inspected the fireplace both inside and out and explained (in more detail than I understood) exactly what the issues were. He knew that my condo was part of a homeowner's association so wrote up a very detailed estimate for repairs that I could submit to the HOA Board. Hopefully the Board will approve their suggested repairs and I will be able to have them come back and do the work.

The people were very nice and professional. I had bought a coupon to have my chimney cleaned for $79. They cleaned the firebox but I don't remember seeing them clean higher up the flue. Maybe that's not part of this offer. They were kind enough to clean creosote off the tiles of the fireplace which they said was not part of the service. After an inspection was done I was told I should replace my cap, damper and regrout my chimney. He wanted $2000 and said it would take about 1 1/2 hours to do all the work. I agreed to install the chimney cap because he said water was getting into the opening. The charge was around $420 which I thought was expensive but I had some other issues going on with the house and didn't go up on the roof to examine things. I got up there yesterday and saw what I got for the money. I went on line and shopped for stainless steel chimney caps and they cost $90-120 retail. I'm pretty angry at myself for not telling him I'd shop around and get back to him but I keep hearing that Angie's List checks pricing as part of their research so I thought he was competitive. Won't happen again!!!!

We have generally found that the ratings on Angie's List are reflective of our experience.

Provider was courteous. A team of two inspected the internal and external chimney. The internal technician was careful to keep the area clean while cleaning/sweeping the inside of the chimney. The external technician reworked and installed the hood. Lead technician provided some recommendations for future work. Lead technician found some minor masonry damage which head proceeded to perform an interim repair with some quickset concrete. The installation of the hood was an unexpected cost yet needed repair. Only expected the sweeping of the chimney at $79.00 and ended up with about a $1000 payment. I did not have an opportunity to price the chimney repair and was unable to assess whether pricing was comparable to others.

was told by provider that if did not perform the service they offered would be fire hazard to the house. i agreed to do teh servicing for about a $1000. i asked for before and after pics via email and told the handyman that came for installation, but the company failed to provide before pics saying they were not downloaded. seems kinda fishy wondering whether i really needed the service or not??? bought this service trusting angie's list, but i would recommend reading yelp reviews before buying any service!!!!

It went fine. It was very expensive. I paid about $1,300 additional. The workmanship seems fine. I have no way of comparing if they overcharged me or not.

Needless to say, I was shocked. The employee giving me the bad news was quick to say that he would fix it immediately. When I talked about getting other opinions, he pointed out that they were booked for weeks - and then he offered a couple of discounts which lowered the price to $1,300. As a single woman, I almost agreed to have the work done because of the Angie's List A rating and because I was completely outside of my knowledge base and needed to trust the vendor who was giving me the quote. Thankfully I did not agree to the services. The chimney sweep was nice, but pointed out that a lot of damage can occur very quickly - again putting me on the fence. Fortunately, they left and I went to the phone to talk to other chimney sweep companies. In talking to other professionals, I mentioned the problems with my chimney and the work recommended. I did not need to mention the company, Chimney Sweeps, Inc. They all said, "Oh, you must have used Chimney Sweeps, Inc. They have a reputation for taking advantage of customers." And so, I have gotten other estimates and will end up paying $150 to repair my chimney instead of $1,300. I feel like I was almost scammed - and had to pay $49 to give them the opportunity to scare me about the integrity of my chimney. I am angry that someone came into my home and tried to take advantage of me. I want to warn others in need of chimney services to avoid this company. And, I want my $49 back!

They were very punctual and very professional. They didn’t give us pictures when they were trying to tell us that it was damaged. The second group gave us pictures, the first group didn’t and they basically misrepresented what was going on in our house so I don’t recommend them. The price was outstanding and they cleaned the chimney well but you can’t just trust them for repairs.

While I wasn't happy about having to spend the money to fix the chimney, I have been extremely happy with Chimney Sweeps, Inc. Matthew, the tech who came out to the house, and Georgia in the front office have been great to work with. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing to have their chimney cleaned, inspected, or repaired. I just wish I would have paid the $79 for the inspection while I was buying the house!

Today is Feb,12,2016. We are late with this review but wanted to let you know the real story. Last August, Chimney Sweeps was called for a chimney check up with winter just around the corner. We were told a $99 fee would be charged for the cleaning. After checking everything over we were told we needed a crown repair for $789, water proofing for $1,029, a top damper for $559. and additional cleaning for $99 for a total of $2,402.15. We had that work done but refused the additional $9,000 to re-seal all the roof vents on the roof and new flashing on the chimney. We just had another Chimney Sweep Company today who told us none of the work was performed correctly and gave us an estimate of $350. to complete all the work properly, including a cleaning! They also felt none of the additional $9,000 requested in repair was actually needed. They took pictures to show us the proof. The actions of Chimney Sweeps seems unethical and we are never going to use them again. I think they should be removed from your listing.

Chimney Sweeps Inc arrived on time and ready to go to work. They were very professional and expertise in their craft services. They recommended the repairs to include a quote.

They did a good job of cleaning the chimney. They recommended additional work and quoted what seemed to be a high price for that extra work. We didn't do the extra work. We did have another craftsman look at our chimney and roof and review the Chimney Sweeps recommended work. The 2nd craftsman didn't think the work was necessary. Chimney Sweeps has now become an unwanted nuisance in our life. They call regularly to ask to do more work on our chimney. We refuses to use them again. We have asked them on at least 3 phone calls to not call again. They agree to not call again, yet they continue to call. We consider this a nuisance and bordering on harassment. We are very unhappy with this post work tactics

They found two cracks in my set-in fireplace. One in the back wall and one in the floor. They repaired them immediately but I needed to keep the flames away from the rear for safety. And, they found the crown on my chimney was damaged. It is a custom crown so they ordered me a new one, along with a cast iron backplate. They installed the items as soon as they arrived ( less than a month at Christmas ) and set up regularnotices for having the chimney cleaned. I was/am extremely pleased with their work and work ethics.

He was great. Unfortunately he could not certify either one of our chimneys because of the way they built. It wasn't his fault but the construction itself. He did a wonderful job. He went ahead and looked at the other one. I would definitely recommend them. When he inspected it, he discovered a chimney cap. The chimney cap was missing. The type of construction was not a two-fireplace. It was just a metal flue that came straight up. We could have set the house of fire. I was very grateful.

All good except 1 hour delay in appointment.

They showed up on time and the owner is very knowledgable. The recommendation he made was based on safety concerns he had and blamed inadequate builders and parts that were not up to manufacture standards, although he couldn't tell me the specific manufacturer or the building codes that were not being met. This equated to a $1600 custom part he recommended based on the safety for my family. He says it's actually $1800 but we would get $200 off for being Angie's list member. He told me my chimney was fine and didn't need cleaning (even though it hasn't been checked for over 20 years) and said he wouldn't do a measurement of top part of the chimney unless I gave him a down payment for $800. I asked if I could check with others to verify that I am not being over charged and he said that is fine but he couldn't come back for 2 more months as they were all booked up till then. He informed me others aren't as knowledgeable as him, and to look at his Angie's list reviews. I fell for the hard sell, which I could tell he had done his pitch many times, and when he left I felt like something wasn't right. I called other vendors about the part and they informed me that should part should be no more than $500. They all knew one company who was overcharging customers, without saying the name. I called the company back and told them to immediately cancel my order for that part and to not cash my check. They said the manager would get back to me (Julian). Two weeks went by and I left a message for them as I never heard back. I waiting another 3 weeks and still nothing. I just got a call yesterday from Julian to discuss my issue- 5 weeks later. I had already put a stop on my check and have another vendor coming to do the work and install new logs and burner which was also half the price of what Jon had quoted me. I have no doubt they do nice work and they were professional up front (but not when I tried to cancel and needed someone to call me back). If you believe that they are the only chimney company that does quality work and because of that you should pay 2 to 3 times the normal cost them by all means use them. They use the somewhat inexpensive Angie's list deal to get to your house and tell each person they need a new part because their home is old and will scare you with it being a safety issue that they have zero proof to document it. I would check with other vendors first before paying them anything to make sure the work is necessary and if so how much others charge for similar parts. Check other sites for reviews on them too.

1/20/16- Update: I have a roaring fire going and everything is Perfect. Thank you Chimney Sweep! 1/6/16- I will say 5 weeks is a long time to wait but the price was less than half the other sweeper AND it s my fire place, I could have had it swept months ago (but did not). I'll update the review after the service.

Scheduled inspection/cleaning through Angie's List for mid-December 2015. Experienced hard, aggressive, scare tactics to give 50% that day of $3300 repair estimate for chase and shroud work. Checked form that fireplace firewall was "satisfactory". Got second opinion today by another company that is Chimney Safety Institute of America certified, (Chimney Sweeps, Inc. appears not to be!), and was shown photos of what he saw outside - nothing that needed replacement now (!) and addressed fireplace firewall cracks on floor and back panel - which I could see for myself - very obvious. Price for repair quoted under $500. BEWARE of Chimney Sweeps, Inc.!! Get other inspections!

Showed up on time and went to work. Upon inspection I was told the crown on the chimney was broken and wearing away. It needed to be repaired and he gave me a price. I will have the builder take a look and then compare the prices. Did good work, friendly. NOTE: Was a bit high on the repair to the crown that was needed. The extent to which they wanted to repair the crown was unnecessary according to the builder of the fireplace. We will still use them again for the chimney cleaning.

I found another company to make the repairs and at 10% of Chimney Sweeps recommended repairs and with all the anxiety.

Installer was very professional and personable. (The chimney sweep hat was a nice touch). He inspected our fireplace and roof and caught things that the previous owner didn't fix. He demonstrated the issues with pictures and I had him fix the problems. He worked well into the night to get the job done and was courteous the entire time. The company backs up their labor and materials for 10 years. Highly recommended.

I purchased the $79.00 Chimney Safety Inspection package from Angie's List. Michael, (son of owner) came out and inspected the chimney. He told me that it looked clean and did not need a cleaning but the chimney crown had some cracks and needed repair. I asked how much will that cost. He said it would be an additional "seven" along with the $79.00 Angie's package. When he was finished I handed him a check for seven dollars. He said, "No, it is seven hundred." I gasped and said how much? I wasn't prepared to spend this much money at Christmas time. Needless to say this put a real damper on my Christmas spending. When I told him that fact he said that he would lower the price for me and was sorry. I appreciate the apology but it is too late, damage done. Now I am not hard of hearing yet. I know how this went down. Perhaps he is use to abbreviating $$ amounts when he talks but in business that is not appropriate as you are talking about other people's money now. I told him for $700.00 I would get a few other bids from handymen. He said, "Oh no, they don't carry the special cement that we use for fireplace crowns." Just beware and make sure he repeats the estimate in a clear and concise way. Merry Christmas.
