Terrible. They came out for a $79 "special offer" from Angie's List. They told me we needed a new stainless steel spark arrestor ($450) because our old one was rusty. OK. Then they called me and said that the chimney cap/crown needed to be sealed or our chimney structure would fail. That was $650. The spark arrestor might have been expensive, but not too far out. The "sealing" involved about three square feet of product - for $650??? I doubt if there was more than $50 of material. I am 70 years old and need to watch out for our money, but also want to keep our home safe. They took advantage of us and WAY overcharged. We want an adjustment and a refund of most of this outrageous rip-off. They should be ashamed of themselves and Angie's List should vet their vendors more carefully.

For as far as I can tell the chimney sweep went well.

They told me I didn't need a cleaning, but came back with a number of other items that needed repaired including the chimney crown, mortar cracking, and vent sealing. They gave me a long sales pitch and told me it would be $3,500 and said it would be an extensive amount of work. I hired them because I thought the work was needed based on what he was telling me. I went outside after 2 hours and both guys were sitting on my roof on their phones and when they saw me they came down to tell me they were done. I don't know if the work was needed or was done well, but either way that amount of money for 2 hours of work is a complete ripoff. I ended up reporting them to the BBB to get a refund. I would definitely not use them again and would find a more honest company to work with.

they did a lovely job, seemed like a much more thorough job than we have had done in the past. Neat and tidy while working. No mess left behind.

Scheduling and appointment setting were highly professional. Service agent arrived on time and inspected our chimney. He said it was sound, but he was unable to sweep it because of wire covering the top of the chimney. In any event, he said it was just dusty and not in need of a cleaning. All was fine up to that point. Then we asked about installing a natural gas fireplace. This is when the agent attempted to upsell us on a very overpriced system. His bid was "1300 - 1400", but he didn't put it in print. I had another company bid 650 for the same job with the same equipment. When an agent of the company did a follow up call, I told him about my issue. He insisted I must have gotten the equipment wrong. He wasn't listening and I ultimately hung up on him. Based on the overpriced upsell I would never do business with this company again.

It went fine. He said that due to a missing spark arrestor it didn't need a sweeping, but he did install a new spark arrestor.

They came and inspected everything. Wrote up an estimate and did the repair work all in 1 day. They did an excellent job.

Steven and his assistant came and completed the work in a timely manner. Was very pleased and will have them come out to my house to clean and inspect my chimney.

Had them come to do a cleaning and safety inspection. They said our home inspector was incorrect and we didn't need the cleaning he'd recommended. So they didn't clean anything (not even the fireplace). The saftey inspection didn't take long, but ended up with the recommendation of nearly $3,500 worth of repairs (only about $2,000 were "urgent"). The sweep offered 10% if we agreed to the repairs now and just happened to have all the materials needed on his truck. I'd made arrangements to be home during the day for the appointment - my husband wasn't around. I explained I was uncomfortable making a decision about spending a couple thousand dollars without talking to him. The sweep asked me to call him. I said I'd rather talk to him. He really, really wanted me to make a decision today - even offered 15% off if I did (after spending 15 minutes or so out in his truck talking to the boss after I told him I wasn't going to commit to spending that kind of money without talking to my spouse). The pressure was a red flag, so I declined to get anything at the time, then spent a few days talking to a few different companies to get their take on it. The consensus was that the repairs he was offering to do were going to be needed eventually - but not immediately - that the solutions he was offering were far more than what we needed - and that even if we had them done, they would cost less than the price we were quoted - even with the discounts. At the beginning of the appointment, the sweep said that the deal was for an inspection and cleaning - and that if nothing needed to be cleaned we could either apply the difference between what we'd paid and what an inspection typically cost towards any repairs we asked them to make or we'd get refunded. We still haven't been refunded. Upon reaching out to the owner to inquire, it was suggested that maybe I was supposed to ask Angie's List for the refund. (Angie'sList wasn't all that interested in helping out because we were a few days past the cut-off of their 30-day guarantee... So this is the first and last deal we'll be purchasing from them as well. We've definitely been better served with providers we've found on HomeAdvisor, through personal recommendations, and via conversations we've had on NextDoor.) So - essentially, we spent $80 to have someone come out and try to convince us to spend $2,500 on repairs to fix a problem that we eventually fixed for $100. We didn't even get a clean fireplace out of the deal (perhaps I was naive in assuming that was part of the cleaning package. If I'd known there would be no refund for not having a cleaning performed, I probably would have made a bigger point about asking about it at the time. Lesson learned.) As far as the review goes, they company was prompt, professional, and responsive right up until the appointment. At that time, it felt more like a sales call than an inspection - which is not what we ordered. I don't blame the poor sweep who showed up. It's not his company and he was just doing his job. I wish I'd at least had a dirty chimney so I could feel like I got something out of the deal. As it was, I spent $80 to learn not to work with this company again and that the 30-day guarantee offered by Angie's List is good in theory but not so much in practice. Just glad our first experience was with one of the cheaper "deals" they offer. The reviews for this company on Angie's List were very good. But looking on a few other sites, I found reviews that were more reflective of my experience. Not sure why there's such a difference, but again - lesson learned.

Everything was preformed as stated. The workers were always courteous and on time. Pleasant people to work with, very straightforward.

Leo Fitch was the service man that did the inspection. He reported that the chimney did not need cleaning at this time. He recommended that I replace the old obsolete spark arrestor with a new cover arrestor. He offered two options a galvanized steel one guaranteed for 10 years at $110.00 or a stainless steel one for $500.00 with a lifetime guarantee. I went with the stainless steel. At no time did Leo pressure me to buy or do anything that may need to be done in the future. He simply made recommendations. Leo was friendly, professional and respectful. With Angies List discount offer $79.00 for inspection and discount for the Cover Arrestor I was only charged $440.00.

Chimney Sweeps was a very easy company to work with. They were prompt with the scheduling and showed up right on time. They did an excellent job in a very short amount of time.

Note: Initially there was confusion on communication between company and me. Once that was cleared up they were great about updating me and working with my schedule.

Terri in the office is always a pleasure to work with. Scheduling is easy. Rick arrived right on time, inspected the fireplace and chimney and determined that a cleaning was not required next year. He also inspected my (fabricated) fireplace for wear and gave me great advice about its potential lifespan. He even patched the back wall free of charge. I have been using this company for 16+ years they are extremely reliable, reasonable, and professional. (And if you have them do the inspection/cleaning in the summer months--its cheaper!)
