Person appears to be unlicensed based on looking at the contractors board.
Description of Work: I was researching companies and saw that this person was no longer licensed. It appears they are out of business...Not sure if Angie's List updates the list to show expired licenses etc.

Ed did an excellent job. He was prompt, courteous and more than reasonably priced. Compared to our former contractor, he is far more professional and conscientious. He shows obvious pride in his work and cares about his clients. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
Description of Work: We originally hired Ed to replace a leaking in-slab hot water line from the water heater to the second bathroom. We were so happy with his work that we hired him to install a new vent and roof shield from bathroom exhaust fan through roof, repair the sagging gate for a fence, install a gable fan in attic, install an outside vent for our built-in microwave, patch a hole in a stucco wall and repair the gas line to stove. He will also be coming back to repair holes in our walls after we have insulation blown in.

Ed at Bernardo Construction is great. Returns phone calls promptly and shows up on time. Ed is great at listening to your needs and ideas and turning them into a profesional looking product. I called Ed up a couple days before the job and pulled the famous "since your here" line basically doubleing the job. He made me aware of all additional costs. The cacth was the next contractors were due the following day. Ed cheerfully took on the challenge and spent a 12 hour day making sure everything was done and ready for the next group of contractors(drywall repairs). My house is 50 years old so there is always a few suprises in the walls. This project was no exception. None of them kept Ed from finishing the job. He provided tarps to keep everything clean and removed all trash from the site.
Description of Work: Removed track lighting in dining room, two bathrooms and old style flush mount hall lights, added new wall switches and plug on a pot shelf. Installed 14 recessed halogen lights. Removed old heater/fans in two bathrooms and installed new ones. I purchased the fan/heaters and the recessed lights.

Ed was flexible to schedule the job on very short notice. Showed up & performed as promised.
Description of Work: Removed two ceiling lights & installed new can lights in preparation for acoustical ceiling removal. Also removed a ceiling mounted, hard wired smoke alarm. The work was difficult as Ed had to work in a very hot attice crawl space.

Everything went well. Ed is a good problem solver and when he needs them, he has great resources to assist. However, there isn't much he can't handle himself. My kitchen looks great, thanks to him.
Description of Work: At this time, the biggest job we wanted Ed for was picking up, delivering and installing a new double oven. He also replaced our SubZero refrigerator door. We also had a series of little jobs that he completed in a timely manner: door hooks, shelving, sticking doors, lighting in the basement, garage door adjustments, etc. One project, replacing an old small refrigerator door with a new stainless steel one, required some precision drilling to make it fit. We had just about given up on it when he found a place to complete the tricky drilling and handled everything carefully. The door works and looks like new.

I was happy with the contractor but I wasn't happy with the subcontractors that he hired to do some of the work. I did grade this strictly by the contractor and not the subcontractors in which he used. They messed up a lot of things that I had to get repaired again. I think it was kind of a waste of money to keep hiring people over and over again.
Description of Work: They put in new ceiling and molding. They also painted and put in new cabinet and tool racks. They got rid of popcorn ceilings for me too.

Punctual with est. and checked everything out then set up appt. Then was punctual on the day we set and started right in cutting the cabinet after putting down cloth and moving out frig from under cabinet!! He was such a pleasure to do business with!! I shall definitely have him back!! Thanks to Angie's for finding him for me!!
Description of Work: Cabinet shortened to make room for new refrigerator! Had to take off doors and spot paint! Put down paint cloth and cleaned up after the job!! Was punctual and gave good estimate and was very pleasant! Excellent job on the cabinet! Looks like it had never been touched!

Ed Bernardo had done some electrical and plumbing work for me previously. In a conversation, I discovered Kitchen remodels were his expertise. As an absentee owner, I was very skeptical of taking on a project of this nature from a distance. With the help of my designer from Phoenix, Jane Phillips, and Ed's knowledge of what needed to be done, the planning process took about 6 months. Throughout that time Ed referred us to very knowledgeable & professional people who made the entire process enjoyable and rewarding. From Dominic @ Christian Brothers Flooring to Ron @ ESAU Cabinetry to Jim @ BAS Appliances and to all the subs that Ed used on my job, all I can say is YOU WERE ALL FANTASTIC to work with and your work was superb! The real credit goes to Ed Bernardo for the fantastic job he did, and to Keith, Ed's Foreman. They were incredible from start to finish. The entire job was completed in two months, with Ed communicating weekly on the progress. It is absolutely stunning!
Description of Work: They completely gutted the lower level of my townhome, which consisted of a kitchen, bathroom, guest bedroom, and living area. They removed a wall, renovated the fireplace, all new electrical and plumbing kitchen and bath, new cabinetry, appliances, flooring, exterior doors and decks resurfaced and painting throughout.

Maybe our job was too small for him. Sorry to waste your time. You certainly wasted ours!
Description of Work: Came to my house to give me a quote on remodeling my bathroom. He did come on time and talked with us for about 30 minutes about our project. Then I never heard from again. I didn't call to ask where the quote was. I took it as an indicator of his disinterest in doing our job.

I chose Bernardo Construction to remodel my kitchen. Although the configuration of the kitchen was preserved, my job involved removal of a ceiling soffit, drywall, an updated lighting system in the kitchen and adjacent family room, creation of an eating bar, installation of all new appliances, painting, and a little bit of flooring. I was pleased to find Ed, the owner, and Keith to be absolutely dedicated to the project at hand. The guys were always considerate and respectful of my space, and there was an easy flow of communication. In retrospect, I can say the price Ed quoted me was very reasonable. He is sincere in trying to anticipate the job in total, possible glitches, and dislikes piling on additional costs as many others do. As a matter of fact, Ed saved me thousands of dollars and serious delays in work by suggesting alternate solutions to problems. I wouldnt hesitate to hire Ed and company again.

I think I spoke with MELODY ON 9/8/06. When I didn't understand her comment "we stop at the wall" she became rude and inconsiderate. First of all, I don't understand why people have to behave that way. And, secondly, when I mentioned Angie's List, she seemed indifferent. An employee who doesn't understand how she is hurting her company.

Mr Bernardo did one small job for us quite well ... in fact, we wanted him and his company to do a larger project for us (closets, living room/dining room remodel, garage storage) ... After his bid was received and we had his initial agreement to do the work. Mr. Bernardo has never been in touch again. We called repeatedly AND have seen him in the neighborhood ... yet he has never said anything ... not even that he didn't want to (or couldn't) do the work. As we had already ordered some of the components ourselves, we were left scrambling for another contractor. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!

Ed, who is owner/manager of the company, and Keith, foreman, are honest and professional. Keith is an amazingly hard worker, never taking a break, and made sure everything was tidy when he was done for the day. We had a few misunderstandings about our project due to our lack of experience in the building trades. I didn't know I was supposed to order cabinets before the room was opened, and then did not know I was to prepay Ed's associate when I picked them out, learning later that he never placed the order. This pushed our completion date back into the busy summer season when Ed and Keith were already booked with other jobs. We also did not know that it was difficult to get one window, and the order was lost a couple times. But the room itself is great, and we can take care of the window and Silestone countertops through Home Depot so as not to hold Ed and Keith up any longer. It was great working with them, and we learned a great deal about the construction business.
Description of Work: Opened a closed 5x 8 ft second story framed area to create a sewing room. Placed a pocket door, installed electrical wiring, light fixture, fan, tile flooring, and cabinets. We supplied the light fixture, fan, tile, and purchased cabinets. Drywall and mud were subcontracted. We did the painting, and are having the window replaced and Silestone countertops done through Home Depot. Total cost for the completed room will be about 14-15K.

No work was performed due to the $90/hr quote over the phone of which I thought was a bit steep. Particularly since the person on the phone (nor I) had any idea how long the job would take, 2 hrs or 10 hrs? I was uncomfortable with not knowing approximately how much it was going to cost. I would also be paying them $90/hr.to shop for and stand in line to purchase the necessary materials at the local hardware store-yeaks!!!

The crews work was good and efficient. Perhaps rushed sometimes because of other job schedules, requiring reminders to finish some tasks. Plus there were a few final touches not even completed (nail holes filled, touch up paint, hole caulking & wrong t.v. cable hook up.) The primary reason I wouldn't use him again is because he wouldn't provide a price breakdown for his bid (even upon request). Never use a contractor that refuses to give reasonable task cost breakdown! All changes later were priced at his discretion because of the lack of a base line breakdown. At final payment time, there was disagreement because of the number of tasks that weren't performed, and I requested credit for them. He became angry, accepted my assessment (he had no rational argument against it) and accepted the final check, but did not provide final closeout documents as promised and required.
