I phoned 4 termite companies for estimates, 3 came to provide the inspection and estimate and 1 was a no show. The scope of the work was identical with respect to the fumigation; there were differences with the amount of replacement wood that was needed and the cost for that work. I only wanted the termite company to do the termite work and obtained separate bids on any necessary wood work. OCPC was the lowest bid by several hundred dollars that, along with the fact that I had a good working history with them made my decision easy. During the Pre-Fumigation meeting I was told that OCPC notifies that Gas Company to shut off the gas and the home owner is responsible for contacting the Gas Company to resume service. He told me I would be back in my home at 10:00 AM on the day the tents come off (he wrote that on the folder that he provided). I contacted the Gas Company to set the appointment and was told that it had already been scheduled (I later found out the fumigation company scheduled it). I thought there was a little bit of communication problem between OCPC and the Fumigation Company (FC) . On the day of the fumigation the FC showed up as scheduled and did a fine job in terms of respecting my landscaping and helping me with additional things that needed to be put into the special double bags. They recommended MORE things than the literature stipulated?. OK, I?d rather be safe than sorry, it was a little bit of extra work as we were getting ready to move out for a couple of days but ? NOT A BIG DEAL TO ME. The crew that put up the tent was very efficient and very pleasant to work with. NOW THE PROBLEMS? I came back in 2 days at around 9:30 AM and the tent was still on the house and there was no sign of the FC. I inspected the tenting and found that in the back of the house a VERY LARGE section of tent had fallen away from house. I called OCPC and was told it was OK as they were airing out the house anyway. OK, I couldn?t do anything anyway so I trusted that the tent fell off after the fumigation and not while they were pumping the poison in. At 10:05 and still no sign of anyone to take the tent off, the Gas Company showed up and couldn?t turn on the gas and left me a card indicating that I needed to reschedule. I immediately called the Gas Company and was told they couldn?t get there till Monday (this was Sat AM). There was no hot water for 2 days and my wife had to go to work on Monday without a shower. Also, the Gas Company gives you a service window of 8 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!! So now I had to sit here Monday and wait for them. (Q: WHAT KIND OF COMPANY CAN?T NARROW DOWN A SERVICE WINDOW TO LESS THAN 8 HOURS... A: ONE THAT DOESN'T FACE ANY COMPETITION IN THE MARKET PLACE). Also somebody in the FC left my brand new custom garden gate unlatched and blowing in the wind for 2+ days and a gust caught it and ripped it off the hinges. I was trying to decide what to do and on the phone with OCPC when the FC showed up to take the tent down. One of the employees grabbed the gate and while I was standing there repeating ?PLEASE DON?T TOUCH THE GATE? he proceeded to finish ripping the gate from the hinges. His response was ?Hey man, don?t yell at me.? OCPC and the FC said they would pay for the repair and I took it to a woodworking shop in HB and they performed a quick fix (plugged the holes so I could put in new screws) and I deducted the cost from the payment to OCPC. OK? it seems like a lot of problems and maybe it sounds like a nightmare to someone but ?all is well that ends well? the gate is fixed and the gas is on and I hope the fumigation went well. OCPC guarantees the work for 2 years and based upon my past history with them, I don?t think I?ll have any problems here. Their price was good and I have been satisfied with their work in the past so, all in all, I?d use them again. I think this was just one of those days?
