Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment to have someone come out and provide me with a quote. Keith came out to my house, looked at the proposed job and told me that he would email me a quote in a couple of days. One week later, I had not received a quote. I figured something unexpected happened, or maybe, he just made a mistake and simply forgot to send the quote. I gave Keith the benefit of the doubt and called him. He didn't answer, so I left a message on his voice mail letting him know who I was and asking him when I could expect his quote. Another week has passed and I have heard nothing from Keith. Bear Flag Construction has a great rating and great feedback from their customers, which is why I was so surprised by Keith's actions. There may still be a reasonable explanation to why he hasn't contacted me and if that's the case, I will happy to update this review. However, without any communication, I can only assume that Keith did not want to quote or take the job.

 + 0 moreOur hot water heater failed and water leaked through the platform that held the unit. We were very concerned and wanted to fix the problem asap. The job was not large but needed immediate attention and I was worried that no one would give us a quick response. Keith sensed our urgency and made time in his very busy schedule to deal with the repair. He removed drywall and set up a fan to dry the area. He then returned and treated the area with bleach, replaced and repaired the drywall. We are so grateful for his service! We have our peace of mind back, the job was completed promptly and professionally. And it looks so much better than the original structure!
Description of Work: Remove, replace and repair drywall from a platform structure beneath the hot water heater.

 + 3 moreThis is the second time I have had Keith of Bear Flag do work for me on my home, as I was very pleased with the work he did previously. Keith re-framed and rebuilt a small second story balcony off of my master bedroom. The balcony needed to be rebuilt due to some dry rot and termite damage. I showed Keith a neighbor's balcony that I liked, as it was designed a bit differently then most in the neighborhood. Keith gave me a very attractive looking balcony, much nicer in appearance than my original. The Azek decking is also a superior material and gives the deck area a nice color contrast, free from painting or future maintenance. Keith also used lag bolts instead of nails for the posts and beams, which adds to the strength and sturdiness of the deck. It looks great. Keith did the work in two days. He is conscientious, neat, and cleaned up the area after the end of each day. I would definitely contact him again for any other work I might need done on my home.
Description of Work: Re-framed and rebuilt a wood deck/balcony with railing off my second story bedroom. Approximate size of deck is 7' x 4'; Azek deck materials used for decking. Price excluded demo of the existing deck and painting.

replacement windows
 + -1 moreKeith (owner) came out on time to our home. He spent apprx 1hr. He informed me he had vast experience and that he and his worker would be working on installing a large, apprx 8ft x 4.5ft window (new construction) in our living room. I liked this part - that he would be working on the project. However, when he emailed me his bid, I was shocked. His bid was for for over $3,000, plus the cost of the window, which was apprx $1,050. His bid was 100% more than the three other bids I had received. No exageration, 100% more. I called him and spoke with him as I wanted to know if I misunderstood something, or there was an error. He was appreciative for the feedback. I think that since he's new (on his own) apprx 1yr owning his business, he is not fully in tune with bidding.
Description of Work: Did not use Keith/Bear Flag for our new window construction project. Read below for more details.

 + 1 moreAll was a very good experience from start to finish. Keith was very prompt when arriving to look at the job and prepare his estimate. He was very also very helpful in assessing what needed to be done, and explained to me the options I had in terms of repair versus replacement. The estimate was emailed to me as Keith said it would be and we scheduled a date for Keith to do the work. Keith arrived right on time and worked diligently. While this was a relatively small job, Keith's attention to detail and care to "get it done right" was clearly apparent. All new wood was primed on all sides before installing to help protect it from water damage and dry rot. Galvanized nails were used to prevent rust and staining, and screws were used where needed to ensure a tight fit. Keith also took the time to explain to me his construction methods which gave me a good sense of confidence in his work. When working on the roof, Keith also noticed a number of broken concrete shingles and glued them back in place for me. When finished, Keith cleaned up the area by sweeping up and removing all debris. Keith will be coming back in a couple of weeks to rebuild a second story exterior balcony. No need to get other bids, his price is competitive and I'm very comfortable with his work.
Description of Work: Replace exterior wood trim and siding due to dry rot and termite damage. Included fascia, trim and vertical wood batten. Also rebuilt wooden cupola on roof.

 + 0 moreThe results are very satisfying. Keith Misumi, owner of the company, took total responsibility for the job, overseeing it from start to finish. His workers were courteous and professional. Other bids had wanted to replace the siding at a considerable increase in price, stating the wood had dry-rot. Upon examination, Keith said the wood was in adequate shape and only needed repainting. Keith insisted that tiles on the garage roof, in the immediate area where the painters would be working, be removed and stacked safely away from any foot traffic. This concern for the tiles was not shared by other bidders and is an indicator of his care for the homeowner's property. Further, we had unseasonable rains which caused some water leakage in those areas where the tiles had been removed. Keith showed up in the midst of the rainstorm, saw the leakage on the garage floor, went to Home Depot and bought tar paper material which he then laid over the exposed area on the roof, using some of the removed tiles for weights. It did the job to stop leakage and all this in the midst of a rainstorm. Keith replaced any tiles broken in the process at no cost to the homeowner. Skills are important in any craftsman you hire. Of greater importance is the integrity of the person. I can't say enough about Keith's courtesy, patience and dedication to detail. His portfolio shows jobs far bigger than ours. Yet his handling of everything made you feel that you had all his attention to the job at hand. The work was finished on schedule, considering the days you cannot paint in the rain, and I would hire this man again in a heartbeat. The next jobs will start in the spring, see you then, Bear Flag.
Description of Work: We had severe blistering of paint on a broad area of siding above our garage on the second story of our house. The balcony off our master bedroom suffered from aging paint also. Bear Flag removed the old paint blisters, filled any cracks, sanded where needed, primed and repainted with matching colors.

The estimate seemed in line with others but more importantly was the feedback and the constant communication about the project. The work was done promptly and expertly. The work area was kept clean and left spotless upon completion. This company deserves to be considered when quality and completion times are important.
Description of Work: Removed existing sliding door to balcony, Install owner supplied Pella sliding door, supplied and installed new interior moldings, repaired cracked stucco with polyeurothane caulking, disposed of existing door and packaging from new door, and did remedial work to deck above with improved flashing, caulking and wood replacement.

The best part was Keith made sure I took my time to weigh all options (price, details, time frames, etc.) The previous patio door was leaking and this one has had NO PROBLEMS. The detail work around the inside frame is wonderful and I receive many compliments. The work site was cleaned up everyday and with a toddler around that is very important. The work was finished on time even with weather delays. Keith was in constant communication regarding the progress of each project and I will use him again for my long list of additional projects.

Description of Work: Our experience with previous contractors prompted my wife and I to take a more "pesimistic" position on whom we would hire. We had several contractors come to our home and give us a quote. What immediately stood out with Bear Flag was his suggestions during the proposal phase. Although we THOUGHT we knew what we wanted, he understood our goal and respectfully provided options. When we were done, we were farily confident that Keith would do the work. We saw some of the references rather than taking his word for it. The feedback was positive. I made it clear to Keith that the plants throughout the yard as well as the yard itself were of a concern to us and he assured me that he and his people will take steps to minimize effects. The day he stated he would be here, he was here and on time. He proceeded with staging the house and I could see right away his respecting our home. His people worked throughout the day and when they were done for that day, they thoroughly cleaned up the site and swept up. It was as though no one had been there that day. Over the course of the next few weeks, nothing changed regardng his approach to the job. Throughout, he would ask if we might be available for discussion on progress and new idea's. What a great experience. When the job was done (stuccoing, windows, painting, carpentry work), it all came together and we literally had several neighbors inquire about the contractor as they really liked the total results. They also commented on how clean the house looked throughout the phase. If I have anything come up in the future relative to home improvement, we will offer Keith first look to see what he can do. We went from the zero of contractors to the hero of contractors and recommend Bear Flag and Keith Misumi to all.
