 + 3 moreIt turned out perfectly. We passed all inspections and the chimney is now built more safely and more securely attached to the house than before.
Description of Work: Our chimney had earthquake damage. Eddie demoed it down to the shoulder but left the firebox intact since it was ok and this would preserve our wood-burning capability in LA county. He rebuilt it higher to fit code and followed a new custom design I provided. He also took down the inside facade and rebuilt it in tile and brick to our specifications.

 + 13 moreEddie and his crew (especially Reggie and Alfonso) are the best. We've used them before and will use them again. If we have to leave, we let them lock up. They are completely responsible and are fun to work with. They clean up every day and keep things safe. Eddie easily works with changes as they come up. If you have to have work done, you want them to do it.
Description of Work: A massive eucalyptus tree smashed our roof and destroyed our heater. Eddie demoed everything down to the wall plates, including the surprise not-to-code roof found under the first roof, and re-built everything to code. He waited very patiently while the insurance company and mortgage holder slowly doled out money. The insurance company wouldn't buy all new tiles for the roof, so Eddie painstakingly salvaged the old ones that weren't damaged to put on the front of the house so that from the street you couldn't tell the roof had been repaired.

But their estimate was a very brief email received after most of the others had already given detailed written estimates, and their price was substantially higher than any of the others.

 + 3 moreBourke Construction's team was efficient, clean, respectful and very accommodating.Whenever I needed to speak with Eddie he would promltly return my emails or phone calls. At the end of each work day, his team always cleaned up and hauled away all of the trash and any demo materials. The workmanship was excellent from the tile work, p[lumbing, and installation of cabinets, morriors and light fixtures. I would certainly hire this company again nad recommend them highly.
Description of Work: This was my first time remodeling and I have a small condo. Bourke Construction was fantastic and did a superb job onthe remodel. It inlcued the gutting the bathroom, andvanity and installing all new fixtures, cabinets, etc. I also had floors thorughout the condo replaced with a beautiful wood grain tile and it looks fantastic.

 + 6 moreI sent an email to Eddie and we made an appointment for him to come out to our home and look at the projects we had in mind. He showed up on time and went over all the work I wanted and asked him for his opinion on various options. Before we moved forward with our job I wanted my husband to meet Eddie as well. We made another appointment and discussed in depth our project and how we would proceed. We usually communicate via email, sometimes by phone; Any questions I have I email Eddie and he gets back to me in a timely manner.
Description of Work: We had the "cottage cheese" ceilings removed from all the rooms. We upgraded and installed canned lights in all the rooms. Replaced our 1960's windows with new windows that make a world of difference from noise and the elements. We replaced our front window and turned it into a window seat. Our guest bathroom was completely redone. Removal of old cabinets, tub, toilet, linoleum flooring. Installed new tub, added shower (we did not have a shower in this bathroom just a tub) vanity and cabinets. Tiled the walls and floor, installed shower door. At one point our cabinets (towers that rest on the vanity) stuck out a bit and Reggie (one of the main employee of Bourke) was able to cut it back a bit and now it looks great. They are currently working on our masterbath and getting ready to install our patio cover, new gate and some lattice work on our existing block wall; so far so good. We have a post in the front of the house that was riddled with termite damage and that was replaced. The room dimensions required extremely specific measurement, both to maximize the available space, and to keep the shelving proportional to the rest of the room. We made changes to the designs, and the shelving was completed in less than a week. As a professional librarian for 36 years I knew what I wanted, and I got it. I will definitely be using the services of this company again
Description of Work: I recently contracted with Bourke Construction to design and construct custom library shelves for my husbands office. This is the third phase of shelving they have designed and constructed for my home and I could not be happier with the job. Custom shelves were constructed, starting with raw wood and ending up with beautiful and useful cabinetry.

He has also given us an estimate and plans for a kitchen remodel, which we will get around to doing one of these days (and definitely hire him when we do). We had an electrical problem as well as a mold problem recently, however, and we have a newborn. We called Eddie, even though he doesn't really do those things... he gave us great advice on what to do and who to call, and for the electrical problem, he sent the electrician he uses out who didn't charge us and said he was doing a favor for Ed. So awesome, and such a great relief in the middle of the chaos of bringing home a new baby.

During the estimate process, he was able to provide suggestions and did so without the "high pressure" sales pitch one usually experiences with contractors. His estimate was provided in a timely manner and having received one other estimate, we found him to be competitive and elected to go with him. Work began when expected and his workers always arrived when anticipated, worked all day, and cleaned up after themselves. Eddie was either periodically onsight or in communication constantly throughout the process. The work was completed several days before the expected date and on budget. I have lived in my home for over ten years and had four different contractors perform remodels during that time. I have never been happy with their performance or the quality of their work. I am so happy to have found my "contractor for life" in Eddie Bourke and Bourke Construction.
Description of Work: Bourke Construction removed living room and dining area carpet, tiled both rooms, removed wainscotting, patched and repainted both rooms, removed old baseboards and applied new, and repaired and repainted the fireplace mantle. They also tiled the front porch.

 + 13 moreI am very satisfied with the remodeling work on my house carried out by Ed's company. I have an over 50 year old house and I had learned to live with many problems. A leaking roof made me look for a contractor on Angie's list and I chose Ed's company. After listening to my ideas, he and his designer and carpenter presented a plan for correcting the roof problem and improving the overall appearance of the house and front porch. I was so satisfied with that job I asked Ed to replace the windows and patio doors. The old house was starting to look good. I received compliments from neighbors. I added one job after another: repair cracked ceilings, a real forced air furnace to replace a convection floor heater, new water heater, remove a structural wall to enlarge the kitchen, granite kitchen counter. In the end it turned out to be a bigger, longer and more expensive job than I originally planned, but I am very happy with the work and the house is set for another 50 years.

 + 3 moreThe work was done promptly and, overall, the quality was good. We had problems with a couple of bad tile installed in the middle of the floor. When we requested they be replaced, there was an immediate agreement to do so, and the work was performed as quickly as possible within the conflicts of our construction schedule. With other contractors with similar problems, we had problems with them insisting the problem was our fault (?), but we experienced none of this with Bourke Construction. We are already using them for a major project and another minor project, and our satisfaction with the results to date is the basis for our use of them on these other projects.
Description of Work: The job involved laying 18 inch marble tile in the master bathroom, 12 inch travertine in another bathroom, and 13 inch ceramic tile in the laundry room.

Eddie worked well with us and our designer to develop the right design for our home. His craftsmanship was excellent across the board. He was very flexible with our schedule and completed his work on time and on budget. As his work progressed, he would check with us to make sure we liked his work. His pricing is on par with others that we brought in to bid, but his customer service gives him a definite edge over other contractors. We now have some exterior work to do and we are definitely bringing Eddie back.
Description of Work: We hired Eddie to frame (box in) 18 interior windows in living room, family room, kitchen and bonus room; install crown molding in the master bedroom and master bath; and install recessed lighting in the family room.

 + -1 moreAll work was performed efficiently, cleanly, on cost and without delay - with the exception of the initial delivery of a wrongly sized new window (one week delay - the sub's fault, not Eddie's). Eddie is very easy to work with and his work is of high quality. Now that we have taken care of the outside we are planning more extensive remodeling on the inside and Bourke Construction is at the top of our list for this future work.
Description of Work: The heavy winter and spring rains revealed multiple leaks in our 43 year old home. Eddie did a thorough water test and identified the probable entry points. The tasks we agreed on were to remove old caulk from one large fixed window and then reseal it; remove the trim around 5 very high windows, apply the proper sealing (not done by the original window installers 8 years ago), and re-flash, trim (including painting the trim) the windows; remove a 40 year old 3rd story window (very high up) and replace it with a custom vinyl window; and finally test again for leaks. For Eddie and his crew (Reggie et al) the project was not to just do these tasks but make sure the leaks were fixed. So when the repeat water test found a small leak in the re-trimmed windows, Reggie was able to identify a small unfilled nail hole and seal it, retest and show the windows to be water tight. Also, Reggie needed to redo a section of the re-caulked first large window.
