Bourke Construction Inc

I am writing this review so that others may avoid our costly and horrendous experience with this business. Admittedly Edmund Bourke makes a favorable impression. He is a good salesperson. But that is as far as it goes. Edmund collected our $2500 and after 5 months, gave us nothing. He still has our $2500. We hired Bourke Construction around January of this year to do the services I listed above. He assured us that he was capable of handling this project, told us about all the large projects he was doing and that he had engineers and other experts he worked with who could provide the engineering work needed for the plans. He collected our $2500 and promised plans for the project. He came out several times to the house to take measurements and had various people look at the project. We kept asking when we would receive the plans. He assured us numerous times that they were being drawn up but there was always some excuse as to why they were not yet completed. Months passed and nothing. Just a lot of talk. He always had some excuse why the plans were not yet finished. When it became clear the project was over his head, we scaled it back to simply expand the existing deck by moving the outer wall out a few feet. That did not help. We still received no plans. Finally, in May of this year, after 5 months of more excuses than we could count, I told him to deliver the plans by a specific date or refund our money. His response was to deliver a useless set of plans. The plans were actually drawn wrong. The plans did not properly depict the existing deck that he was hired to expand. All he had to do was look at the existing deck and the plans to see that the plans were wrong. That is what we did. It was obvious and we are not engineers. The plans were drawn by his contact, Joe Mark of Mark Design in Mission Viejo. We asked Joe to redo the plans we had paid for. Bottom line with Joe Mark is after two weeks, Joe old me that he had redrawn the plans and had actually submitted them to the city. I called the city today. No plans were ever delivered to them for our project. I cannot rate Bourke Construction or Joe Mark Design lower than an "F" or I would. A "Lousy" rating is more favorable than I believe Bourke Construction and Joe Mark Design each deserve. If you can't or don't want to do a project, at least be honest and professional with the client. Honesty and professionalism was utterly lacking from these two providers in our experience. Not only can I not recommend Bourke Construction or Joe Mark Design, I would urge anyone to stay as far away from these two as possible.

Eddie and his son Pat built a beautiful 2nd story deck off our house. Their workmanship is of the highest quality. We love our new deck.

They just came help us with the diagnosis and gave us some quote basically. I think the quote was one of the highest and we again have three constructors that come. The house work was with flooring, painting and we wanted to do an extra window or change the window basically. I think he was very professional. He was punctual when he came. He answers quickly. Send the quote quickly on time. It was very expensive for works we are looking for if we were remodeling a bigger house with more work and more complex stuff maybe we would go back to them.

I own a very old and very small house in Laguna Beach that is made with lathe and plaster and is an ongoing project. It had old, broken louvre windows that were being replaced with Pella windows. Ed started on time and finished in the time frame he indicated. He can handle my very direct, detail oriented, avoid surprises, keep me informed style of remodel management. Kept the job site clean, pointed out some product damage, cleaned the installed windows post install, waited for the inspector and overall did a wonderful job. Have included him in the bid process for the remaining imporvements to the rest of the house. Will keep you posted!

Very professional, started job on time and finished early. Complete kitchen remodel, excellent materials, design and craftsmanship.

I called them and left messages twice but they never called back.

I wanted to use a qualified general contractor to do both the bathroom remodel and the exterior painting. I have a demanding job and wanted a single point of contact and no hassles execution of the work. I got what I wanted. Ed was very professional from discussing the work, preparing the bid and writing the contract that included the scope of work and progress payment schedule. All the work was high quality and was completed in about three weeks which was the time Ed said it would take. The workmen were polite and professional and the disruption needed to do the work was minimal and they restored everything they moved after completing the work. I have recommended Bourke Construction to others and would use them again.

It went okay. He had lost his right hand man, so things were not as good as the first time. The patio wood is split and there are noticible saw cuts in the kitchen wall.

We are very happy with Bourke Contstruction. Eddie and his son are hard workers and they did a good job with our home improvement project. We like that Eddie is on top of things and if you need something to be looked at or tweaked after the major work is done, he will gladly come out ASAP to fix it. We will definitely use Bourke Construction again for future projects. Thanks Eddie!

Delivered a proposal for the job but it was at a high level. Did not provide enough detail in proposal package to be able to include in the final bidders for the job.

Eddie and his team were great to work with, very conscientious, and exhibited considerable attention to detail. Importantly, they were able to deal with the numerous unanticipated problems in this older house. Kitchen remodel was a complete tear-down and rebuild with new cabinets, countertops, and appliances. Eddie had to deal with out-of-code electrical and plumbing, skewed walls and flooring, and several other unexpected problems. The result exceeded our expectations. Interior painting was also handled professionally. The team exhibited tremendous flexibility as they had to completed the project in three phases in order to work around new flooring and the kitchen (and client changing colors three times).

They were really good and reasonable. I will use them again in the future.

They were courteous, polite and punctual. They came out and courteous in asking questions and gave me a nice quote. The quote is reasonable.

Eddie was great to work with. He was prompt in coming out to prepare an estimate and stayed outside doing the necessary measuring and photographing despite the fact that it was freezing and drizzling rain that morning. He was quick to get back to me with an estimate and came up with a solution that was better than what we originally had in mind. His subs who came out to perform the work were prepared and completely professional. The decks look great. It hasn't rained since the work was completed so I can't attest to the runoff problem being solved, but from what I can see, it looks like the solution will prove effective.

The project went as scheduled. The time frame given to me on the completion of the job was very accurate.

It took about three months. Overall I was pretty happy with them.

Ed Bourke did a great job on my mother's home. He did everything he promised and was very easy to work with. The job was done in a timely manner and the results are amazing. He removed old siding and then inspected insulation. He reported that her insulation was adequate and did not need to be replaced. The new Center Teed siding looks beautiful. His paint job was perfect! He even fixed the old doorbell that wasn't working anymore.

Very well. We started with an aggressive schedule and even with a few surprises, Ed Bourke got the major amount of work done on schedule. While the budget went up a bit (as it often does during a big job), every item was either a reasonable response to issues uncovered during the process or work added by us as we went along. We are very very happy with the final product and feel secure the craftsmanship will last us a long time.

Work was done in a professional manner, on budget, the result was an excellent looking hardwood and tile flooring, would use this contractor again .

Ed'd quote was good. We went with another contractor who was less expensive and came highly recommended from Direct Buy and friends.The only reason we gave Ed a "B" on Professionalism was we would have liked to have seen the quote itemized rather than generalized. We would have been comfortable using his services for the project.

Ed was very responsive in coming out to give the estimate, and was able to organize Reggie, Pat & crew coming out less than a week later to complete the work. The project was completed the same day and the results are great.

They came out and looked everything. I ended up not hiring them, but I wished I had. They were very professional and they were very thorough about giving the estimate.
