Price seemed to go up based on the tile color, the contract had listed Timberline or GAF. I choose GAF charcoal and it cost $400 more. $50.00 of dry rot repair was also on the contract he wanted to charge me another $175. the dry rot repair 12 x 12 inches. He would get very mad if you questioned anything. I would hire him to repair if the roof leaks since it is in the contract up to 5 years.

He came out and said it was a clogged area near a valley in the roof and could be cleaned out. He told my husband that he would clean out both sides as it would most likely be happening on the other side as well. Said he would send an estimate. I had to call a number of times before getting the estimate. It was $850. I had to call a number of times to set up appt for the fix. He came and did the job in less than an hour. My husband happened to come home mid job and asked if he did both valleys and he said "No, the contract was just for one". When I sent an email saying the price seemed really high for less than an hour, as his hourly rate is $65, he rudely told me I should read my contract and I don't know how a California business works. When asked about him telling my husband he would do both sides, he just fell back on the "read your contract" statement. I told him it seemed a bit gouging on the price for the amount of time and he told me he would fix the other side as long as I didn't call him in the future if it did not work. THAT did not make me feel confident in his work at all! Really poor communication.

Freeman Roofing is an exceptional company with a highly skilled crew working for them. We had a fair amount of dry rot that needed replacing and it was replaced well with high quality and attention to detail. In addition, our new roof looks fantastic. We will not hesitate to refer our friends and neighbors to Freeman Roofing as needed. Great company to work with from start to finish. Will certainly use again should we have another roofing need.

First, when Joe Freeman inspected my old roof, he pointed out structural problems that other bidders did not even notice, and he suggested carpentry solutions that appeared clever and sensible to me. His quote was quite competitive, detailed, and straightforward, without any requirement for pre-payment or complicated forms to fill out. His crew did an outstanding job, and they were energetic, friendly, and professional. Also, they clearly took pride in their work, and they were careful and thorough from the start to the final cleanup. I am very pleased, not only with the look of my new roof but also with its perfect, leak-free performance during our heavy December and January rains (El Nino conditions). I highly recommend Freeman Roofing!

Joe contacted me right away after I purchased the deal to set up a day/time. I was a little worried about this, since I knew roofers in general are slammed right now because of the approaching storm season. After we talked, he sent a confirmation email. And he showed up right when he said he would. Very well organized. Fortunately, there was nothing major wrong with the roof. Joe did a little caulking but said overall, it's in good shape. He did mention some cracking of the tiles that might be covered under warranty, but said it would not cause problems during the storm season. I appreciated his honesty.

Roofer told me over the phone, before even inspecting the roof that the bundle rate that I selected is the wrong type of service paid in advance, that I should ask for a refund. He went to inspect the roof and took a lot of pictures. He sent me an estimate to replace the whole roof and not to fix or maintain the roof. The roof package I pre-paid for was $285 . His estimate was about $40,000 My husband went and fixed, repaired the roof. we spent $160 in materials. Leak is fixed. Luz Marina

Product is a know, failed product called Tamko Heritage shingles. Not even sold in this state anymore. Pictures showed that. I went out and sealed all exposed nails and flashings. Nails coming through shingles everywhere. Let them know a new roof would be in the $10,000 range. $40,000????? Wasn't me?? Being honest is always the best policy. During our home purchase process, our realtor recommended Freeman’s Roofing to do an inspection after we went into escrow. Joe did a very detailed inspection and identified that the roof needed a complete new replacement. (Most inspectors don’t make these kind of calls knowing that it may kill the deal and risk not being hired by the realtor again.) Joe also pointed out that the material on the roof had a class action suit about ten years ago and that company is now out of business. Based on this information, we were able to get $5K credit towards our new roof from the seller! After getting several quotes, I felt the most comfortable going with Joe as he was really knowledgeable and he did a very good job explaining the process. Joe’s crew did a fantastic job on the roof. They were fast and did a good job with the clean up. All permits and coordinating inspections were handled by Freeman’s Roofing. He also did some additional vent work for us for no extra cost. A month later, we purchased a rental property in Concord. We of course hired to Joe come out for an inspection. He found some shingles that were lose or were missing. When Joe was repairing the roof, I mentioned that the pest inspector had recommended that the roof eaves be repaired due to dry rot. Joe replaced it without charging us and without even mentioning the extra costs for repairs. He told me about it after the job was done. Freeman’s Roofing fees are very competitive. Freeman’s Roofing is an honest contractor, great customer service that does a great job. I HIGHLY recommend this company for anyone’s roofing needs.

We felt that Joe Freeman was very honest in evaluating the wok that needed to be done, and was very honest in letting us know what in addition might be revealed after the roof tear off. A previous estimator had blandly assumed we wouldn't need an additional layer of plywood over the 60+ year old roofing slats covering the older part of this home; as it happened, plywood sheeting was required. We were able to reuse the plywood covering the much newer (2002) addition. He also indicated he would attempt to remedy a noticeable bump in the roofline between the older part of the home and the addition, caused by haphazard construction techniques employed during a remodel. This could have resulted in pooling of water in this area and possible future leaks. We were very pleased with his work in reshaping this area and adding a new "valley" to enhance water flow to the gutters. He did this without having to alter the underlying framing. Everything went very smoothly. We were impressed by how well both the tear off crew (subcontracted by Freeman) and the Freeman staff cleaned up after their work. We were pleased that the tear off crew volunteered to sweep out our garage, since owing to the gaps in the roof underlayment, roofing materials fell on the garage floor. We were of course prepared for this and were very happy that that these folks offered to help us clean up. Two separate tear off crews speeded up the process, we might add, otherwise the tear off might have taken an additional day. Freeman's own crew worked swiftly and expertly, completing the job on time (4 working days) and as noted above cleaning up all nails and roofing materials near driveways, patio and behind plants. We were able to go about our business in the home both during the tear off and re-roofing. The owner, Joe Freeman did not charge for his time, only for that of his 2 employees We were very pleased with the work done by Joe Freeman and his staff, from the honest appraisal of the problem, to the successful completion. Again I would commend Mr. Freeman's honesty in communicating to us the roofing issues inherent in an older home joined to a much newer addition, and the successful completion of the work. We also felt that, given the above, the work was completed for a very fair price.
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of two layers of existing roofing, additional plywood added to apx 66% of roof area with original plywood deck on remainder used; dry rot repairs to rafters and other areas of roof deck; Certainteed Presidential shingles, along with roofline vents installed; new gutters and downspouts installed. Home is apx 1200 sq ft 60+ yr old stucco structure joined to a newer additon.

Joe had 100% great reviews on Angies list so we had him come out and do an estimate on our roof which was leaking around a chimney. He came across wonderfully during the estimate and even said "even if you don't go with us, feel free to call and ask me any questions about your roof or other estimates, or work done - that's what we are here for is to help." It is our mistake that we didn't get other estimates, but with all the great Angies list reviews and the seemingly great, helpful estimate, we asked Joe to go ahead and do the work. He was going to be out of town the following week, but the week after that he sent 2 of his guys over to do the work. They were here for a morning and then left with us assuming the work was done. We were thus quite surprised when, about a week later, the two workers show up again saying that they needed to go back up onto the roof to put on the piece that they hadn't had with them when they were here the week before. We had no idea that the roof wasn't completely finished or that they would be coming back again. The major issue we had though, was that the afternoon after the roofers had been there the 1st time, we found tons of 3 inch by .25 inch strips of shingle, little peices of shaved metal, and a couple tips for caulk cans all over in the grass, planting beds, and driveway of our front yard and side yard. There was also a splatter of tar on our walkway that had never been there before. We threw away a ton of the debris as we were doing gardening, but I saved some and told Joe we had been assuming clean up was part of the quote. Joe came by to take a look at the debris and claimed that the metal shavings and caulk tips were from his guys but that they didn't have anything to do with the shingle pieces all over the yard or the tar splatter. That is ridiculous, because we have been working out in the yard at least 4 times a week since mid January and there were absolutely no shingle pieces in the yard until the day the roofers came, so I don't know what else to say. Lastly, when giving the quote, Joe went up on the roof and took pictures of the items that needed work. We felt it was very unprofessional, however, that when the work was completed, he sent the invoice via email with this and only this exact wording: "forgot to take pics for you of finish, you'll have to see from ground". If we are spending $1000 on our roof and were told we would be able to see pics of the finished product, we would want to see them even if that means they need to come back to take pictures since they forgot. To his credit, Joe did come back to take pics once we told him we wanted to see pictures before sending payment. All in all, a pretty angering experience. We definitely wouldn't use Joe and his company for our roofing needs in the future. Bummer, because I was hoping we'd found that one really great roofer that we could have as our go-to for the next 40 years...

From the initial inspection to the entire project, Joe and his small crew were professional, punctual, and extremely competent. I felt they really knew their business and were easy to work with. The only blemish or concerns I will mention has less to do with Freeman and more to do with the initial tear down. Make sure you insist on tarping any areas of your home that may be affected by falling debris. We were left with a bit of a mess that required some clean up. Again, the tear down company was a different company (Contra Costa Tear Off I believe). Also, the coupon is a no go and I believe Joe will be removing this as an option. To his credit, Joe's quote was also lower than the other quotes I got. Overall, quality man and quality work.
Description of Work: They contracted with another company to tear down and throw away old roof. They then installed a completely new roof, gutters, downspouts, and installed two sun tunnels.

Joe Freeman and his crew were extremely professional with the installation of my roof. The whole process took less than three days to complete. It was fun to watch them work; we could tell that they knew what they were doing. They actually saved me some money by modifications made to part of my gutter system. They also fixed damaged/rotten wood areas of the roof that were caused by a previous roofers' inexperience. My next door neighbor recently had his roof done by a non-contractor. It looks bad! Sloppy work and a "good deal" will certainly come back to haunt him! When you compare my roof to my neighbors' roof it's like night and day. I'm happy that I chose a professional to do the work rather than having a buddie do the work!

Working with Joe Freeman was a very pleasant experience. He was very friendly and helpful in choosing the correct material and style of roofing. Communication was very easy and we were very happy with the overall experience. Pricing was competitive with other local roofing companies. Joe's crew was friendly and arrived at a reasonable time in the mornings, cleaned up and left at a reasonable time in the afternoons. The overall process of removing our old roof, repairing a leak, install new roof and down spout took much less time than I had anticipated. I highly recommend Freeman Roofing!

Joe totally rebuilt our roof. Where some other roofers wanted to simply tack on a new comp roof without really assessing the situation, Joe identified the problem as a lack of air flow which was causing the ridged insulation to warp and bow.. This is what caused the plywood to bend and seams to split allowing the roof to leak in 8 different places. Yes, the previous hippie owners didn't fix their roof, they simply put out buckets to catch the falling water Crazy!!!! So Joe Freeman, Freeman Roofing, tore off the roof all the way to the 2x6 tongue and groove decking, actually replaced many pieces that had water damage and woodpecker holes, built up the roof to allow for 4 inches of insulation and 1.5 inches of air flow, thus solving the problem from when the house was originally built. Some of the other roofers didn't even understand our roof and its complexities. His experience and honesty is what solved our roofing issues. I truly believe that without his eye for detail and understanding of our custom roof, we would be having issues later on. There was a snag along the way, but this is where the true honesty, integrity, and commitment of Joe shined through. It's easy for someone to seem great when all is perfect, but when something goes wrong you need your roofer, or contractor or plumber to be there to correct it and that's exactly what Joe did. We got hit by a freak storm and his workers were supposed to have laid down the roofing paper. Well they didn't anticipate the storm and water started leaking in one of the rooms. So at 8 pm my wife called him in a panic (I was still at work) about water in the study. He arrived 25 minutes later and proceeded to tar paper the ENTIRE roof, IN the dark, IN the rain, on our 3 story home. What COMMITMENT!!! I have to admit I was pretty upset at first, but Joe took complete responsibility for the problem, promised to fix any damages, of which there weren't any, and has an amazingly calming personality. I mean this guy is like Joe Cool, the kind of guy you want as your neighbor, and have summer BBQ's with. So anyway, everything dried out exactly how he said it would and our roof is great. That's called experience. He's seen and done it all. He's actually called us twice to make sure everything has been fine. I've never had a contractor call and make sure all is still great, without wanting more business. The difference is that Joe cares about his work, he cares about the people he works with, and that you are totally satisfied. Thanks Joe.
