For the most part, I was happy with Mario's work. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the oven was higher than the counter about a quarter inch while the back of the oven is flush with the counter. Before the kitchen floor was replaced with laminates, the entire oven was flush with the counter, and the reason was the laminate was installed under the front legs of the oven where the floor was bare before that caused the oven front to be elevated.

We received several bids on the work we needed done. Mario Diaz Flooring was not the cheapest bid and not the most expensive. We chose them because of their ratings and the confidence Mario had that we would love the end product. Our situation was not just refinishing original hardwood floors, putting adding a brand new 300 square foot oak floor with a 70-year-old existing oak floor that flow together. When we pulled up the carpet, we had a lot of stains in the wood, some fresh and wet from my daughter's dog when they visit us, which I was not aware existed. I was amazed that Mario’s crew got all the stains out and the new room they added matched the old oak floors so well. They did a beautiful job. They showed up everyday and completed the job in a timely manner. The crew worked very hard and were very polite. A few companies that quoted the project seemed to make a big deal about adding a brand new room with the original oak flooring we had. Mario assured us we would be happy with the end product and gave us confidence in his craftsmanship. He said our floors will look pretty much the same because he uses solid oak similar to what was used in the 1950s (newer but oak). He uses a process to age the wood to help it match the original. We were amazed how the floors matched up so perfectly. They laid it down piece-by-piece (no fake wood or prefab material). We absolutely love the look of our new floors. I will never cover up these beautiful wood floors with carpet ever again. I encourage people to get multiple bids and have conversations with the companies. It is time consuming but worth the effort or just skip them all and call Mario Diaz' company. If you get multiple bids, you will figure out fast who is taking advantage and highballing the project.

Mario's provided accurate estimate of project, ordered custom maple flooring to match existing floor. Mario's team was very professional with installation of new floor and refinishing existing floor. They went the extra mile to insure we were happy with results. 70 year old floor looks amazing and the new floor matches well. Neighbors were impressed and are interested in Mario's team for their own floor projects.

I don’t often leave reviews unless something about the company/job was quite remarkable, one way or the other. This company, and the team they brought to the job, was outstanding. The quality of the work is top notch. The team is made up of well-mannered professionals. And the price was very reasonable. The hardwood flooring throughout my property sustained significant damage from tenant’s cats. It was so disheartening. I scheduled Mario and his team for the initially planned work, but once the tenants were finally evicted, we discovered the scope of work needed was much larger. Mario’s company was flexible enough to enable me to still meet my deadline. This was during the last big heat wave of the summer, so conditions were tough. But this team was nothing but professional. They really went above and beyond in every way. The finished product looks beautiful. Thank you Mario and team!

Great. Mr. Diaz was responsive and flexible in scheduling and re-scheduling to meet our request. Workers showed up on time and were very professional. They protected the area to keep dust confined to the space, and cleaned up beautifully. We thought an additional coat of polyurethane was needed for appearance and Mr. Diaz did not hesitate to send his men back to do that. I rated his price a B because it was similar to a quote we got from another company--so Mr. Ruiz price was good but not a "bargain." That said, the quality of work was worth the price.

These guys are phenomenal! Originally had them come out to refinish the hardwood floors in the three bedrooms, and was so pleased with the quality of their work, that I had them come back for an encore performance in the living room, entry, dining room, and hallway. The house was built in 1951, so the floors are over a half-century old, but Mario and his crew brought them back to life beyond all expectations. They removed the Pergo flooring, repair a couple spots of termite damage (matching and replacing the wood), did an amazing job cleaning up where the original floor heater had been, which involved dismantling the previous repair attempt, bringing the sub floor up to the correct level and then interweaving the replacement red oak into the existing flooring (in both the hall and the living room). Great crew (Albert, Charlie, and Jordy, along with the owner, Mario Diaz), who were always punctual (actually, early), explained everything in detail, worked hard, and cleaned up nicely. They magically made the 65-year old floors look like new – and finished everything off with a matching molding that really set off an exceptional job. Could not be more pleased! Very knowledgeable, excellent work ethic, beautiful end product, and prices that are more than fair. Thank you! Gentlemen. Plan to have them do more floors in the not to distant future - incredible quality of work at a great price.

My floors (three bedrooms) look incredible, Mario, Albert, and Charly were a pleasure throughout, and their finished product defines professionalism, attention to detail, and pride in their work. An excellent work ethic was continuously displayed by these three gentlemen, as they infused unexpected new life into 65-year old oak flooring, that before their arrival, displayed a multitude of scars from children, pets, and an abundance of foot traffic. Everyone was always on time (or early), they cleaned up daily, they were respectful of the house (some tradesmen crash through your home like stampeding herds of buffalo - not so for these gentlemen - they treated it like it was their own). Threw them a curveball by asking for matching new moulding at the last minute and it magically appeared. Would definitely hire Mario Diaz Flooring again (in a second) and in fact, plan on having them remove Pergo from the hallway, living room, and dining room so that they can refinish those floors as well, and, additionally have another project in mind for next year. These guys are just incredible. Thanks! Mario, Albert, and Charly - you've transformed the house!

Mario and his crew were top notch. I called him based on Angie's List reviews. From the beginning he always called me back promptly or texted. He would call if he was going to be late, which I really appreciated considering a lot of companies don't do this. With LA traffic I was amazed at how prompt he was most of the time. How he works is when you call to inquire about services he has you go to a flooring show room in LA. there you can see everything that is available. There are no prices but Mario will tell you what the price is per ft after you make your choice. I'm sure you could get a price on different floors and then make a decision, I just found what I wanted and left it at that. You can bring large samples home for 60$ a sample, which will be refunded when you return them. Mario's crew was fantastic. They paid excellent attention to detail and I feel like they were almost like artists in the attention they gave to their work. They are family run and trustworthy. I felt like they worked tirelessly in order to do a quality job. Mario works with you throughout the process, ensuring all of my needs were met, asking question along the way to make sure I was happy. The result is some beautiful floors in my new house. The original quote for the job was for about 600 sq ft of flooring and the underlay. I hadn't measured correctly and ended up having to buy more flooring and the trim was extra as well as the moulding. This makes sense, but as a new home owner I'm not used to knowing there will be added incidentals. I also ripped out the carpet and carpet tacking and opted to install the moulding myself hoping to save some money but I'm not sure if that was taken into account. Organization with communication for up front costs was really my only gripe with these guys. The floors are really stunning.

Mario called back within minutes of my leaving him a message. I explained that I had a condo that I wanted to redo all the floors with laminate and tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. He was quick to say he didn't do tiles anymore. Once I told him the price I was getting from Lowe's flooring people he pointed out that the price was very good but to do my due diligence on the subcontractors that they use. All in all he was straightforward, honest and gave good advice. I don't know him well enough but I get a sense he's a man with integrity.

We bought a mid-century home with carpet and soon after closing escrow we discovered beautiful Red Oak Wood floors but they were in need of TLC. The master bedroom was in bad shape and in need of much attention. The rest of the house, 2 additional bedrooms, 2 hallways and a living room were in decent shape but still needed work. Initial contact: I emailed Mario Diaz via Angie's List, requesting an appointment. Mario responded within 48 hours, asked me to call him at my convenience to set a meeting date. Estimate day: Mario arrived on-time, no kidding our appointment was at 11am and he was at our front door at 11am! He walked in and said, “these floors are beautiful” (which I couldn’t see it at the time). He walked around and looked at every detail, we shared our interest in staining the floors to a dark stain. My reason for staining was because I didn’t think the stains and discolorations would all come out. Mario discouraged us from staining them, which by the way I am thrilled we took his advice. We also had termite damage in one bedroom which Mario assured me I wouldn't be able to tell where the damage was after the job was done. Mario provided us with a detail estimate of the work one-day after the walk-through. The estimate was very fair and we hired him. We had a few other things going on at the house so we asked to push the work back a few weeks. Project day: Mario and crew arrived on time and started the work immediately. All floors were completely sanded at the end of day 1, and on day 2 they were cleaned and the first of two top coats was added. I was then able to see Mario’s vision, my floors looked amazing! We are very happy with Mario and crew, they were all very professional, respectful, punctual and clean! They cleaned at the end of the work day which is very important considering the amount of dust this job produces. I also want to mention that one room and one hallway have parquet floors, and those were sanded by hand in order to maintain the integrity and style of the floor. We are very happy with the outcome, our floors look amazing, brand new and yes I cannot tell where the original stains and termite damage was!!! Thank you Mario and crew for a job well done!!!

.Mario and his crew refinished the oak floors of my father's 1950s home. About 950 SF, total of two bedrooms, hallway, dining room and living room We pulled up the carpet and found some beat up hardwoods that I wasn't sure could be saved. Mario came and quickly determined that the floors were in great shape and might require minor repairs or replacement if their treatment techniques and sanding was unsuccessful. I was skeptical. I asked whether we should stain the floors as well, to which he strongly discouraged me. He recommended sanding the floors and refinishing with oil based polyurethane, and said that the floors would look great and last much longer without any staining. Even though staining would add considerable additional cost, Mario still discouraged it. I trusted his judgement and was rewarded for it. Only a few spots needed replacement boards with only minimal cost impact (a few hundred dollars). The total job came in at $2,450. Extremely pleased and have recommended Mario to several friends already.

Mario knows his wood flooring and won't settle for low quality work! Estimate was explained well. Was very clear up front about the scope of work included. Upon removing my carpet, he found some damage to my substrate that needed to be repaired - immediately told me there would be additional cost which I agreed with. When I asked for extra work, Mario was clear about what would be additional work and what could be done in his original estimate. I appreciate that he ordered extra long trim pieces when his supplier only had 8' lengths. The long pieces look much better than the 8' pieces would have. He also put extra coats of finish on my stair treads because he wasn't happy with the quality. Although the work took longer than he estimated, Mario did not ask for any unreasonable change orders. I would not hesitate to recommend Mario to a friend!

Mario and his crew worked diligently and professionally to install the new floors. The result looks fantastic. They maneuvered skillfully around several surprises that presented themselves upon removing the previous flooring (mold, bizarrely configured landing, etc.). From the beginning, their expertise with and knowledge of wood floors made the experience a huge success. For example, they recommended a type of floor that met our needs and taste, worked well with the sub-floor in our place, and was in stock at a reasonable price at a nearby flooring distributor. Finally, Mario and his team were funny and personable with our entire family.

It was a pleasure working with Mario, he is very knowledgeable and helpful. Mario?s team did a great job repairing my antique hardwood floor in my 110-year old house. There was water damage, dry rot and missing wood planks. They did a great job at blending in the new wood with the old wood. Professional, knowledgeable and friendly crew. The floors look beautiful! I highly recommend Mario Diaz Flooring. The job took 3 days total including two coats of oil-based polyeurthane. Once the work was completed I had to wait a total of 48 hours before I could move my furniture back in (24 hours for the oil-based polyeurthane to dry and another 24 hours for it to cure). The smell of the top coat is very strong for the first 2-3 days as expected due to it being oil-based and not water-based. I chose a semi-gloss finish, no staining necessary. The type of wood we had to purchase to match my old floors was very expensive, but blended in nicely.
Description of Work: Replaced about 27 square feet of antique damaged wood, then sanded and refinished two rooms that totaled to about 250-300 square feet.

As communicated with Mario, the price itself was not an issue -- an adequate explanation for a discrepancy in price per square foot was an issue, as was no response concerning the additional $200 on the bid with no additional labor or materials. Mario told me that my bamboo was installed by a handyman. I don't know who installed it. I had imagined that it had been installed by the previous owner. According to another licensed and highly reviewed floor refinisher, my floor has minimal wear. Mario's comment on Angie's list that most would not take the job is unsubstantiated by him, and is not true. I have not had a shortage of persons willing to do the job. Further, there were only two repairs that Mario was going to address that we spoke of. They were at a doorway where the hall met the bedroom. At the doorjab area there were two gaps. Mario was going to remove one existing 3' plank and replace it with a plank that I had, and was going to fill the other with filler. All other aspects of the job were usual for refinishing. Mario sent me a private email asking that I change my posted review and accusing me of trying to ruin his reputation. I have thusly changed the former "B" grade for professionalism to an "F" and as a result have changed the overall rating to a "D" from a "C." My initial review of Mario's company was truthful, fair, and impartial. It was full of positive feedback. That it documented not being called when an appointment was going to be missed, was not an attack, it was a fair review of my experience. To document the discrepancy in bid amounts was not an attack, it was a concern I awaited to have addressed by Mario. As I previously documented, I am certain that Mario can do an excellent work. For me, before I turn over my keys, move out of my home and into a hotel, and entrust my home to someone else, I must have reason for trusting that MY home will be treated with respect, that the work will be done in a quality and timely manner as agreed, and that my key will not be duplicated. The visit to ones home by a service provider is an interview process. Each interaction and communication is part of that process. I did not choose to use Mario because he did not convey to me that he respected me, and valued me as a customer. He did not build trust that he would do a good job -- for me. Mario confirmed this impression in our communication and interaction, and in his response to my initial review. I wish him every success, and this should be a learning experience for him in what is hoped to be a continued striving for excellence as he continues to develop as a business owner and operator.
Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment for Mario to provide a bid for refinishing my bamboo floors. He was easy to get in touch with, was polite, and scheduled an appointment with a 1 hour window. On the day of the scheduled appointment (4 days out), 1/2 hour past the appointment window I hadn't heard anything from Mario. I sent a text to confirm our appointment. At that time he responded and said that he had experienced roadside trouble. He was able to arrive within 2 hours of our scheduled appointment. He itemized the cost of the job in-person and said that he would just need to price the 1/4 round if I wanted them to get it. Having purchased 1/4 round quite recently, I know the cost is minimal. So, when he left, the only missing factor was the price of the material of 1/4 round for the living room and small hallway. It should be noted that I live a couple of blocks away from a Home Depot, and minutes away from Ganahl Lumber and so it would be quick and easy to obtain as well. When he left on 7/9/15, the bid was $2600. The bid he emailed me today for the same job (as he stipulated "labor only" regarding the install of quarter round) was $2800. The price for the refinish of 505 square feet of bamboo: $2400. Charge for labor and material to repair one strip of bamboo in the hallway: $150 (he told me he would use the 3' piece of bamboo I have to replace the inappropriately sized piece and so I don't know what materials he is referring to on this line item). Price to install quarter round: $300 for "labor only." So, that's how it went. I chose to contact Mario Diaz Flooring after reading the great reviews on Angie's and Yelp. It also seemed that he would be able to do a great job. When he didn't call or text that he had roadside issues it caused me to question his professionalism and the level of respect he had for me. Based upon the detailed reviews and job costs provided by other Angie's list members, my job seems to be quoted very high. Further, the $200 price increase with no change in the job quoted in-person is concerning. It should be noted that the price included no staining -- just refinishing. From the information I've obtained about floor refinishing, it is customary to remove the base shoe (1/4 round) and reinstall it after. This is so that they can get close to the base and have the best finished job. I only had 1/4 round that would need to be removed in the bedroom. It's only 2 years old and is not caulked to the base -- just nailed. It just seems that the issue of the 1/4 round seemed to be a big consideration, and I don't understand this based upon the other reviews of other customers where it seems this provider did a detailed and thorough job and even went above and beyond and for $1000 or more less than what my job is quoted for, and for larger areas than what my job entails. I have emailed this provider in response to his emailed quote. I have rated a D for the price, as he quoted me high, and even higher 2 days later -- for the same job. We'll see what his response is, and update my review of the provider accordingly.

Response from Mario Diaz Flooring
I'm really sorry you feel that way. I responded all your questions as much as I can & respect your decision not to choosing us. My apologies for having a flat tire on the freeway I've should of call you at that moment & time to let you know I just couldn't make it. But I've just try my best & got to your house in 2 hours later with your approval of course. If that bother you, no problem you should've just cancel the appointment & I would of understand. About your natural bamboo repair & refinish floors it's not as simple as you may think or the same as sanding a solid oak floor. There's a big difference like I explained you but you seem to focus on the total not the workmanship that it requires. Every type of floor requires different procedures depending on the condition, finish, species, design & structure. So yes there are floors that are easer & cheaper to fix ,refinish & install. We are the specialist on all types of floors so we know what we have to do because our records depends on it. Your floors where install unprofessional & repairs where done wrongly. Most company's won't take a project like that. But I'm a problem solver & like challenges to show off my skills. To me it seems that you want a professional company to do the job but want to pay your price. Since I couldn't do it your way you took your time to write a whole paragraph to make me look bad. (Not so nice) No worries my work speaks for itself. Take care.
