After continually promising to pay us in full we still have 3 invoices which amount to almost 13,000 in unpaid balances after 1 1/2 years. I would be wary of using a contractor who does not pay his subs. Very poor business practices

We picked this company because, in the Angie's List, reviews of the contractor who worked with the mold remediator were excellent, and this is the company that the mold guy said he worked with. Well, it turns out he has switched the contractor that he works with to this company and we didn't find this out until it was too late. Initially, thing went well, but quickly started going downhill. The lead contractor argued with everything my husband asked for and told me "we weren't grateful," for what they did do, but were vocal when we were unhappy. Every time they asked for check, we paid immediately. Many things were done poorly, and when we pointed them out, we were argued with. Minor issues: Our light switches were installed upside down, we installed three fans and have already had to reinstall the one in the back bedroom, as it was never properly secured, all three of the fans were installed on the same signal, so we couldn't turn on one fan and light without turning on or off the others. The tiles in the lining the tub are chipped and uneven in places. Three separate times we came to the house to find water leaking on our subflooring from buckets being allowed to overflow, etc. After we were already dealing with water damage, this was unacceptable. We were made to feel like we were making a big deal out of nothing, but it wasn't nothing to us. I picked a tub I wanted, they said I couldn't get it in time in order to stay on their timeline. So, I picked a tub that could be next-day delivered (which was much less satisfactory to me--only 9" deep on the shallow side), and they left it sitting in the kitchen until after the day when I could have had the tub I wanted delivered. We never received an apology for these errors. Major things: They placed one of the new kitchen cabinets (which are lovely) in a place that makes it impossible for us to actually open our dishwasher fully. It bangs against the handle of the warming drawer of the stove--this was pointed out to the contractor, who suggested a new dishwasher! We were urged to buy engineered wood floors and we refused. We wanted to replace our floors with similar oak hard wood flooring, so we went and priced that out at their subcontractors. We had a very specific timeline and found out three WEEKS after placing the order that the subcontractor just never ordered the flooring we wanted (although I never spoke to them and this is the story from the contractor). So, we had lost three weeks. And we were never notified that the floors were never ordered. Then, they told us we no longer had the time to acclimate new hard woods to our home (because of the lost time), so we needed to get prestained and pretreated hardwoods because it would save time. So we did that, even though, again, not what we wanted. Then, they discovered (after ordering and bringing to our home) that the pretreated hardwoods couldn't deal with the humidity that they were exposed to in our house because the treatment would be affected by the change in humidity in the woods as they equilibrated with our subfloor. So then, they tried to get me to sign a contract saying that they would not be held responsible for any buckling, cracking, lifting of the wood, etc. due to water. These are regarding the floors THEY recommended we get, after failing to get the floors we wanted! Finally, they decided that they would place a second subfloor in order to avoid voiding the warrantee. When they did that, it created a slight gap between the baseboards and the floor and they had to place grading lips at all the room transitions. Both showers required resealing after the tiling. The lead contractor did to honor his contract, which was good. However at this point, we were desperate to be done with our dealings with this company . In the end, the relationship was very antagonistic, and we would never hire nor recommend this company. We ended up fixing the switches and fans ourselves. I am sure they would have come back to fix them (not showing up was not a problem), but we didn't want to deal with them anymore.
