 + -1 moreIt was difficult for me because he was far away and wanted me to pick out a door at Lowe's which is also far away. He was nice and seemed to be helpful. He got back to me quickly. I just ended up using someone local right around the corner from me. He was quick to respond, we just chose someone else. He immediately gave me an estimate whereas other people say, well, let me think about it and get back to you. He was a nice guy. I probably won't use him only because I like the other company that we went with and they are closer.
Description of Work: I last used Greener Rhythms to get a quote for a door about a year ago. The quote was to take out the old door and put in a wider door.

 + 4 moreJamie was easy to work with, from start to finish. He was on-time or called if he was going to be even a few minutes late. He explained his approach to the work clearly. Overall, he was just the kind of skilled craftsman we were hoping to find. He showed understanding and flexibility in relationship to the somewhat quirky aspects of our project (putting a custom cabinet into a space that originally had been designed to contain a trash compactor; very detailed finish work on hardwood flooring trim that had been installed by someone else a few years ago; replacing a 40 year old door while keeping the existing door frame), and he kept us well informed every step of the way while also showing respect for the fact that we work at home and need quiet to take care of our business. We have experienced loud and non-stop talking handymen in the past and this is not what we wanted again. Jamie was just the right pick for us!
Description of Work: My wife and I had a kind of 'grab bag' of items related to the final stage of an interior redecorating and sprucing up project involving our kitchen, living room and family room. Jamie's work involved removing a trash compactor in the kitchen and replacing it with original cabinetry, replacing a back door from our kitchen to covered porch with a new door, painting the door to match the door frame, adding baseboard to our breakfast nook and painting it, and making repairs on our main entryway door.

 + -1 moreJamie arrived on time and was clear about the cost. He performed the work as discussed and left the job broom clean. The only reason I did not give him straight As is because it was not easy to get a response to my initial inquiry. I had to email him a few times and I almost gave up. Glad I didn't. I think he is just really busy. After the day of initial work I called him to come back and hang more garage wall slats and his responsiveness was great then. I hope to have him back soon to install moulding in my master bedroom. I would recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Jamie installed Gladiator garage wall slats so I could organize my garage, hung a few mirrors and installed two hose hangers on my exterior wall. . He did a beautiful job and is a really nice guy.

 + 2 moreJamie was pretty timely and finished the work at an acceptable rate. This was not time critical work but custom finish work, so time was not of the essence. The end product is perfect. It was not easy - the framed walls upon which he mounted the shelves and medicine cabinets were far from straight.
Description of Work: Jamie designed, built and installed 2 custom bathroom medicine cabinets, a living room shelving system, and bathroom shelves recessed in a closet. All were custom fitted and made of wood stained to match the surrounding decor. I am very observant and would notice if something was not right, whether it be fit, color, etc. It all came out perfect. He also fixed our front door binding issue - it had been installed incorrectly by the general contractor who built our custom home (my review of him shows up on Angie's list as a 1 star).

James was pleasant and professional. The job was much more labor intensive than I had thought. I paid the low side of the original estimate as well. I will use this company again for any other carpentry work.

Greener Rhythms provided the quote after reviewing the full mortise lock install instructions that I provided via email.

 + -1 moreJames explained the higher cost repairs and lower cost alternatives to fix the door frame and molding and we settled on the lower cost alternative and price. When I showed him the other project he said it was so minimal, and he could get the needed molding while at the store for the door project so he would just throw that in for the same price. He said he would obtain the supplies and then call me to set up a time for repairs. The next morning I called to ask about progress and he said that he had gotten all the supplies and could be at my place in 15 min to begin work. When he arrived, he had another man with him and they each grabbed one of the projects and began work. Within no time they had completed both jobs, very high quality, and stuck to the original quoted price for both jobs, and 2 men working!. This company has a funny name, but they will be on speed dial on my phone. Very satisfied!
Description of Work: I needed a busted door frame repaired along with replacement of interior molding around the door. There was also some molding that needed replacing elsewhere in the house.

He purchased all the material himself and installed a better quality mildew resistant floor. He fixed miscellaneous wood work inside the shed and did it all in one day and because his helper wasn't available he did that whole job himself. Outstanding!

Description of Work: Greener Rhythms repaired a door jamb and installed a surface mounted bolt in a heavy front gate. The bolt was slightly unusual, and James Kerns took time to study it before the installation. He was careful and methodical. There were no slip ups.

 + 0 moreI joined Angie's List to find the names of reliable handymen in our area. I chose James because of the eco friendly name and for being recommended on Angie's List. When I called James, he came to look at all the jobs needing to be done. He told me he was working on a job that required him to be outside - at that time it was raining and there was rain in the forecast. I contacted James by e-mail a couple weeks later. He replied after a short time, saying he would be able to do the work on Monday, 4/30. Then my husband and I started to discuss the type of door we wanted in the kitchen, which held up the work by a few days. I was surprised and pleased that James could complete all the work within a day.
Description of Work: James replaced a kitchen door, installed three outer door handles with three deadbolts, and a regular door knob on an inner door. In addition, James installed and replaced two vent cover, installed a new mailbox, and replaced wheels on a set of shower doors. James also came the next day to adjust the upper window in the kitchen door, install a smoke alarm, and change a part of one of the door handles.

 + 7 moreJamie came in, saw what needed to be done and methodically, thoughtfully and carefully completed the playhouse. He was always professional, friendly and patient. I am so grateful we found him and will call him first the next time I need a handyman.
Description of Work: We got rid of a bad contractor part way into a project to build an 8 x 8 foot clubhouse for our kids on the hillside behind our house. At that point we joined Angie's List and found Greener Rhythms. Jamie came right over, looked over all the materials we had, figured out what was needed and caught gross errors that the other contractor would have committed (i.e., he was going to set slider windows as hung windows which would not have drained water properly or stayed open without propping). Jamie checked over the work done, finished the foundation by digging and setting the post holes, corrected and completed the framing, set the windows, installed siding, installed roofing of tar paper covered with composition shingles on shed roof, framed and installed door, framed the windows, fabricated three non-functioning glass windows, trimed the building and openings, built three wooden steps up to door, installed weather vane and gutter along back of roof. Jamie returned the unneeded items left over from the other contractor to the store and purchased what we were lacking to complete the job. He also made several suggestions which we gratefully made use of.
