I got a call saying the workers were at my house. I hurried home. I showed them where the roots were. I let them know the sprinklers could be broken - I had no problem with that. They brought in a machine that digs. Well it ended up the machine tore through drainage pipes as well as the sprinklers and twisted the copper piping for my pool lighting. These pipes will not be easily reparied as most lead under the decking for the pool. After a couple hours I checked what the progress was. I was shocked and said that's it. done. I was in tears. They left behind some root barrier stuff. I thought they inadvertantly left it behind and would come back for it. No, I rec'd an email asking ot pay for it. Had they were able to install the root barrier, I would have paid. But they couldn't so what am I going to do with it? Anyway. this little fiasco will set me financially. Not to mention the time. David knows this and advised me things like this are to be expected. My take is someone should have actually taken the time to come out to the house, look at the area and advise me what was involved instead of coming in swinging and using heavy machinary. I trusted the company because my father has used them for many, many years and I had used them one other time. So much for that.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate for removal of a queen palm and root removal/excavation. The first request was "lost" I had to remind them. They lost it and so I submitted another via email. The day of the estimate, I got a call asking which palm. I know I tol them it was a queen palm in the front yard. There is only one queen palm in the from yard. I had to direct them to it. I told the lady on the line that I would like an esimate on roots, if she could have them look at that too. I told them where and all that. I got an estimate for the palm removal. Nothing about the roots. I emailed again. I was given an hourly rate and we set up a day and time. David said he would call me when the workers were on their way.

I had several quotes on the project. They were by far the best quote and most efficient to work with. I work mostly during the day and asked for a quote without me home. The tree was easily visible and it really wasn't necessary for me to be there... some companies wanted me there. I loved that they gave me a fair quote and fast and worked with my schedule without giving me a hassle. One company after meeting with me quoted me for $1,000 more without the extra stump grinding. That company also called me 'honey' 'sweetie'. Yuck. This company was great. My son watched as they climbed the tree and said they were like Jack and the Beanstalk. They worked fast, efficiently and were careful to avoid my neighbors house (I live in a townhouse like community and my neighbor is literally 10 feet from me). They told me why firewood would be better than mulch and even cut the pieces a little smaller for my liking. It was seamless. I'd recommend them over many other companies.

There were two workmen. One climbed the tree and cut small sections and the other leaned up below. It was a big job but our tenant was very pleased as we were concerned that the tree might fall on someone.

This company is a joke. I had the unfortunate experience in dealing with them and still waiting after weeks to have David call me back and still waiting. The service I requested from them was to have a tree trimmed and another one cut down with a stump grind. The only quick thing from them was the estimate. Once I indicated that I wanted to proceed it took a few phone calls and emails in order to get an appt. I should have cut my losses there but from the good reviews I though I'd give them a chance. On the day of the appt they showed up and trimmed the tree and cut the other one down. But they did not grind the stump and broke a water pipe to the sprinkler system. They told my wife that another team would have to come back and would repair the pipe. After this I called numerous times to have him give me a ring back to no avail. He did however have his son call me back over a week later to schedule to have the pipe fixed. About a week after the pipe was fixed his staff entered my property without an appt & without permission to grind down the tree stump. During the time his unscheduled staff was on my property it caused a few issues in my household which could have been avoided. Also there was a water line next to stump that his team should have been informed of and could have ruptured the entire line to the house. His team did not cleanup the debris from the stump grinding which my dog promptly ate and later vomited inside the house. I've received nothing but excuses from him via email and a single voicemail that he left me after numerous, and I mean a lot, phone calls. Excuses range from scheduling issues due to another customer having the same last name to being on lock down from the fire dept with no access to email or phone. Mind you this has been going on for weeks.

Dear [member name removed], Thank you so much for the feedback. I appreciate the input and will review what happened. The office staff apoplogized to you for the inconvenience and stated we were in an emergency situation. I have been a firefighter for 22 years and was sent away for weeks during the biggest fire season in decades. Everyone really tried their best during this time and I too tried to catch you on the phone when possible. I am the main coordinator here and it was very difficult for everyone considering we get approximately 100 emails a day. It was mandatory staffing at the FD and unfortunately I was out of touch even with family members. I will look into this and we will get you taken care of asap. Fotunately there were only a couple situations that came up like this while I was gone. Thanks, David

I wish Angie's list had a "not sure" selection for 'would you use this vendor again'. I selected Crown Point because of the high recommendations on Angie's List. I contacted them at the beginning of April. It took 3 days to get back to me to schedule someone to visit the house and make an estimate. From the scheduling call to the estimate was about a week. The estimate is in line with what I've paid in the past (one tree, $200) so i accepted the estimate. I spoke to the scheduler on the phone who told me to email the estimator with "lots of symbols and exclamation points so it is at the top of his queue". No response That was April 15th. I let it ride for a couple weeks (no response from Crown Point) until i received a notice from my Condo Association that I have 30 days to get this tree trimmed or I'll be fined. I called on May 6th, heared back on the 7th and it's been two days of no response where I don't know if this will be scheduled in time. Really disappointed in the scheduling. I know these companies don't like to do single tree jobs and they should just say they don't want this business. At least Bishop's Tree Service just said "no" . Update on May 14th: I heard back from Crown Point (FINALLY!) on May 11th (Friday) that they would be able to come to my house sometime on the 13th (Monday) if I could confirm quickly. Luckily I was able to view my personal email on my phone and responded almost immediately to please come and cut the tree. They came out to the houseon the 13th as they said and when I came home from work all the work was finished. The tree looks great, they did a terrific job of cleaning & shaping the tree as well as removing all tree debris. Aside from the absolute scheduling pain, the work is excellent. I still wish Angie's List had a not sure button as a choice becuase while the work is excellent, the scheduling was insanity and I might try another vendor next time just to compare.

Description of Work: This was my third time to use this company. I have been consistently impressed with their performance from the time of the estimate to their completion of the job. When I called about getting trees trimmed, a man and woman from Crown Point Clippers Inc Tree Service came out to assess the work to be performed and take the information back to the office to get an estimate created by the manager, David. They were punctual showing up for this first appointment and the women was polite. I expected to receive the estimate in the following day or two, but I didn't. I called their "office" and got the answering service. I asked when the estimate would be delivered, and I was told that they would need to give a message to the owner, David, and he would get back to me with the answer. The answering service asked me to provide my name, phone number, etc, etc address, zip code and email address. I would need to provide all this information to the answering service every time I called. A couple of days later, I called again and received the answering service again. Again I needed to provide my name, phone number, address, etc, etc. and was told that David would get back to me. The next day I received a voice mail from a woman saying that they must have had my email incorrect. I called back and corrected my email address and then received an email with the estimate later in the week. I had a question on the pricing on the estimate and called the office, and received the answering service. I provided the answering service my name, phone number, etc, etc. I asked to be called back so that I could get a better understanding of the pricing. After a couple of days of no reply, I called again, and again received an answering service and gave all my personal information. I received a call from a woman saying that David was out of town on vacation, and he?d get back to me when he returned. A couple of days later David contacted me and explained the pricing, and I said that I would like for them to perform the work. David asked if I would be there to make sure that the trees are cut to my liking. I told him I would be, but I would need to take time off of work to do so. We set a date and time (7:45am) for the work to occur. Given the communication difficulties we had already I called a couple of days in advance to confirm the agreed upon date and time that Crown Point Clippers would be at my house to perform the service. It took two calls on separate days to the answering service to have someone give me a call back to confirm the date and time the service would occur. I was told again that at 7:45 am they would be at my house. I took the morning off of work to meet them at my house. At 7:45, no one arrived. At 8:00 I called the office, and received the answering service. They said that they would contact David to find out what was happening. At 8:30 I called the office, and received the answering service. The answering service said that David was not returning their calls. After no return calls I decided at 9:00 that I would go to work. A little later I was walking to my car, a work truck pulled up. I walked over to the truck, and told the men in the truck that they were an hour and a half late, and we would need to reschedule. I went back in the house to tell my wife that they showed up, and we would reschedule. One of the workers came up to my front door and handed me his mobile phone saying ?David wants to talk to you?. David explained to me that he was a fireman and had an emergency the night before. He didn?t have a chance to gather the guys together and tell them where they needed to work. He told me that I should take that into consideration, I started to explain to him that I needed to go to work, and he gruffly said to me ?Don?t interrupt!?. With that admonishment I handed the phone back to the workman and told him that he should tell David that I do not want the service performed. At this point, given the poor communication, and that it was clear that Crown Point Clippers was not David?s primary focus I no longer wanted to do business with Crown Point Clippers. Later that day I received a voice mail later from David telling me that I was unreasonable, that ?we should be adults?, and he would lower the price and he would have the guys back later in the day if I said it was ok. I also received an email with the same message, adding the price would be lowered by $100 (his profit, he noted). I had no desire to continue this business transaction and I simply replied to David?s email saying ?No thanks?. I received another email from David saying he was trying hard to make it up to me, that he would lower the price further and he would not make a dime on the job, and that I was being ?extreme?. I did not respond and that ended the business transaction. I found the interaction with Crown Point Clippers Inc Tree Service unpleasant. The lack of communication (e.g. a call to say they would be over an hour late to the job) was unacceptable. The absence of any pre-planning to have a crew identified and set to go to a job in advance of the morning of a 7:45am appointment brings to question whether the crew works for the company or are labors rounded up when a job is landed. The business owner?s attitude (David) was gruff and condescending. To David?s credit, he tried to mend the relationship, by offering to lower the price, and by calling and emailing me several times. I didn?t want to take a chance with the business, or how well my trees might be clipped. Besides, the follow-up offers also came with a snarky attitude. Others may find this level of professionalism acceptable and overlook it in favor of the price, I did not. Good luck!

Dear Client, Crown Point Clippers has over 7,000 clients and 32 years of service. We have a zero employee turn over rate and the senior employees have been with us for almost 25 years. We provide excellant work at a reasonable price. Our history supports that and this is why we have been in business longer than 95% of all tree companies. We are sorry we couldnt serve your needs and your job was delayed due to an emergency beyond our control. We really tried to make you happy, but unfortunately you were not receptive, unwavering and your communication was not respectful as it should be. Once again, we are sorry we could not help with your tree trimming needs. We really tried.

Scheduling the estimate was very easy and went exactly as planned. The team showed up, was courteous, professional, and prompt and I received the bid just a few days afterwards. I requested two separate bids since I would be sharing the bid for the work on my neighbor's yard with my neighbor and was disappointed that I received both bids on the same invoice. Scheduling the work was a little tricky since I had to prove my neighbor's agreement for the work to be completed, which is completely understandable. It was unclear how Crown Point Clippers normally handles this since my neighbor mailed the invoice with his signature and approval back but it seemed to get lost. Once we were on the books for the actual work to be completed, the team was late in arriving to the site. I contacted Crown Point Clippers by email (that was their preferred method of contact) and as advertised, I received an immediate reply and the team arrived shortly thereafter. I just would have appreciated a call to let me know what to expect. Once the crew arrived, they asked me to verify they project and they got down to business. They checked in with me intermittently to ensure that I was satisfied with how the project was looking and talked through options with me as they worked. They swept up the perimeter of each project and they were on their way. The job was done to my satisfaction and I was extremely happy with how the crew worked. They were professional, polite, and did a thorough job without wasting time. I have already called again to schedule another project.
Description of Work: I contacted Crown Point Clippers to get two bids -- (1) trim a tree on a neighbor's lawn that was obstructing our view and (2) evaluate a tree on our property that is on a hillside and had some diseased leaves.

This was our tree third service with Crown Point Clippers. David found a way to work us into their crowded schedule to meet our timing needs. As before, we are impressed with his knowledge, the professionalism of his team and the overall service. We had a crew here for a full day ranging from 5 to 8 people, with chains saws, axes, grinders, rakes, blowers. They did a complete job cleaning up. He also suggested we dig a trench to keep our other trees from lifting and damaging our driveway and advised on what kind of fruit trees we might add for our location. Submit Review
Description of Work: Two very large trees removed, eight small trees removed, stumps ground on all as well as stumps for a dozen small trees and two larger trees removed on prior service. All unwanted debris was removed and they left the mulch they created for me to use in the future.

With the high winds of last week breaking numerous branches around our property, and having used Crown Point Clippers services 3 other times, we never even consider another tree trimming service when this type of need arises. This company never disappoints and continues to meet my husband's and my high expectations ...from the inital phone call to set the appointment, then having the work get done, is always seamless! They arrive when they say they will, do the work quickly and professionally, then they are gone. Thank you again for another outstanding job.

EVERYTHING went perfectly and the work the crews did was EXCELLENT!! When I returned to my home from the hospital after surgery I was so happy to know the backyard would be ready for the holidays with family. I cannot thank Crown Point Clippers or David enough for the work they provided for me when I needed this service the most. I had used Crown Point several years ago for my front yard palm tree and I called them again to get a bid on more work that I needed done. I received 3 bids and David's estimate was by far the best and the most competitive bid and the service was great the last time so I hired them again!! I had two trees with the stumps and more removed from my backyard and general cleanup of those areas. The crews were efficient, quick, and did the work that I requested and MORE!!! I can say that I am more than a little happy with the work they provided me I am so very grateful!! Thank you David and Thank you to your crews too!! My experience was great and the crews work was safe when they operated the chain saws and other powered equipment. I really appreciated the way they cleaned up after themselves and made the yard look so great for the holidays! Thank You David and Thanks to the crew that day too!! I will be calling again!

See above. That says it all. It went badly.
Description of Work: I hate to do it, but I must give them an F. After a lot of back and forth about some large trees which need to be removed, a firm and clear appointment was set for an estimate. Now they are asking me to believe they screwed up both my home address and cell number, even though both were correct and clear on my email to them when the estimator appointment was set. The estimator was not there, even though I opened my garage early and stood in the street looking for him. I must say they were prompt on the email replies, and there were several of them apologizing for this morning. Meanwhile, I was late getting to work. I will use a different company. The trees must go. The amount spent is the approzimate amount of work I lost at my business while being late waiting for an estimator who never showed up.

Response from Crown Point Clippers Inc Tree Service
First and foremost, all the employees at Crown Point Clippers, Inc. Tree Service, would like to apologize for the inconvenience we may have caused the member. Secondly, David Hingeley, the owner of Crown Point Clippers did have an appointment to meet with the member however, several occurrences happened which has made the member feel that our company deserved this rating. Currently, our office is undergoing a growth spurt and we recently hired several new office staffers who are still in training. One of which transposed both the cell # and the address of the client. On his way, David called him multiple times (not only on the wrong cell # but also on the correct alternate # he gave our office) to let him know he was on his way and was running a little late due to a traffic closure but was unable to reach the client on his emergency #. David arrived at the location approximately 5 minutes late but was unable to meet with the client and give him an estimate for the work he wanted. Later, we offered to give the client a $300.00 discount towards his service (which the client had assumed would be around $500.00), this discount would have been well under the cost of doing business and was felt more than adequate for the misunderstanding. Our goal is to always do our best to keep our clients happy and as you can see by the other reviews posted, even a previous one by the member who gave us a A rating, we have been very successful in our business. We have even won the Super Service Award the past two consecutive years! We will continue to improve our training so that mistakes like this don't happen again. Once again, we appologize for this misunderstanding.

This was a great experience and I would certainly use them again. I phoned them, gave my information, and they set up an appointment to visit the property that needed tree trimming. This visit happened within a day. An estimate was then emailed to me right away. We scheduled a date for the job and they competed the work in one visit. The trees look amazing. They really did a great job and I would certainly use them again!

Overall we are very satisfied with our experience with Crown Point Clippers. We have seven large Mexican Palms on the side of our house and a very large ficus tree in our front yard----none of which had been trimmed or cared for by the previous owners in at least 5 years. David was very responsive when I initially called and provided an estimate quickly. He was also professional and understanding when we decided to reschedule by 3 months due to owls nesting in one of the Palms. We finally had the service performed last week and are thrilled with the results. Although the Ivy couldn't be removed, the palms are cleaned up and all the dead branches gone. They also did a fantastic job with the ficus in our front yard. When we returned from work they were done and everything had been cleaned. We will definitely use them again.

I had an excellent experience using Crown Point Clippers, and plan to use them again in the future. We are relatively new homeowners, and we solicited three quotes for our tree service. Two, including Crown Point, were close to each other in price, while the third was nearly double. We chose Crown Point based on initial customer service. They provided an estimate on the first day I asked for one, then followed up a few days later to ask if we wanted to schedule the tree service. The workers were very punctual and professional, and the yard looks wonderful - I can't believe the difference. They removed one additional bush without charging us for it, and left us the mulch from our trees upon request. I would recommend Crown Point Clippers to anyone.

EXCELLENT work. Really. It makes all the difference in how our house appears now, and the work was very well done, timely and professional Quote was VERY fair, and the company stuck to it. I would use/recommend them again in a minute. TOP quality. The only thing I would improve, is communication. MANY phone calls back and forth, many messages left for "Dave", which was disconcerting. I have to take part of the blame, yet I think the admin/service area of this concern could be improved. That would make it top-notch all around.

I was very pleased with the job they did. First off, it was clear that they sent enough people with the know-how and right equipment to do the job safely and efficiently. The five people sent to do the job were obviously used to working with each other and went the extra mile to get some of the stumps ground. Some of the trees were on an incline, and another company had told me they wouldn't be able to grind those stumps. Even Crown Point Clippers wasn't sure whether they would be able to grind some of the stumps at the beginning of the job, but they tried and were successful. (One tree was far up a hill, so there was no way to grind that stump.) They hauled everything away and left everything clean.
Description of Work: Five palm trees were removed, and four of the stumps were ground. One of the trees was much larger than the others. One of the trees was entangled with electric wires.
