During the month that he was my realtor, Casey emphasized numerous times that the most important thing he could do is to add my property to the Multiple Listing Service, and nothing else makes very much difference. Nevertheless, he did hire Christine Merchant, a realtor from another agency, to host two open houses. The first open house was canceled because Christine got, in her words, "a better offer"--an offer to host another open house that she found preferable. I expressed my unhappiness when I found out that Casey had arranged for her to host the second open house in spite of her previous unprofessional behavior. A friend of mine attended that open house. Before he had even had a chance to look at the condo, she said to him, "This condo is priced at $398,000, but it really shouldn't be priced any higher than $375,000, and you can probably get it for less." She then took out literature on other condos in the area and encouraged him to consider buying one of them instead. He said that she was obviously doing everything she could to discourage him from buying my condo since she wouldn't get a commission from that. I felt that none of this should come as a great surprise, given what both Casey and I already knew about Christine. Since I didn't think that this was an appropriate method of representing my property, I fired Casey two days later. From our final conversations I got the impression that he believes that the most inappropriate part of our interaction was that I fired him. He seems to believe that he did a fine job of representing me. After all, he did put the property on the Multiple Listing Service.
