Jim was my salesperson and was consistently hard to get a hold of and/or return your calls in a timely manner. However, when he was available, he was extremely polite, helpful and knowledgable! The actual crew that installed my floors & baseboards consisted of George, Jesse and Ricardo. They were FANTASTIC. They were polite, respectful, courteous, hard working and exceptionally clean!

Very pleased with transaction and love my new laminate flooring, it is beautiful. The workers that installed the flooring, Edwin and I don't remember the other gentleman's name were very friendly and professional. Did a great job with the install and cleanup. Frank was very helpful in assisting us in picking the right color to compliment the tile we have in the downstairs. We defininetly use Tompkins Flooring again.

They were very understanding with my special situation because when installer from Tompkins Flooring noted that my subfloor underneath the old linoleum had some repairs that needed to be done and it took me seven months to finally have the concrete subfloor repaired so that Tompkins could complete the new linoleum material installation. The sales associate kept in touch with me, but never pressured me or made me feel like I had to get it done now. Tompkins even accommodated a special request of coming out and doing a demo of the old linoleum only so that my HOA's contractor could see what needed to be done with concrete subfloor. When we were finally able to schedule the new linoleum installation the guys were on time. I found the installers to be very knowledgeable, professional and friendly, They did a great job and left the area clean. I think the product is good quality and I feel the price was reasonable. I had a very good experience working with this contractor.

I contracted with Tompkins to replace the tile in my dining room and entry hall with laminate matching that in the adjoining living room, and to replace some warped planks in the bedroom. For a cost of $3,000 I would then have the same flooring in all rooms except the bathrooms and kitchen. The existing laminate was a high quality, more expensive Armstrong product in a color that was difficult to find when the original living room flooring was installed. It was a very attractive color that took me several weeks to find. (Tompkins installed the original product in my living room, den and two bedrooms.) Armstrong had discontinued the product; however Tompkins located enough flooring at a local distributor to do the job. Reportedly, Armstrong did not inform my salesman (who said that he told Armstrong the flooring would be interlaced with existing flooring) that the product has been changed though the name and model number had not. The new flooring was ¼ inch wider and the clicking system was different from the original, making it impossible to interlace the new planks with the older ones. I never looked at the packaging to see if there was information in the fine print that would have notified the installer of the changes. No one verified that the new flooring could in fact be interlaced with the old flooring before tearing out all of the tile in the dining room and entry hall and some of the old flooring in the living room and bedroom where the new product would be interlaced. By the time this fact was discovered my home was dirty from the demolition and in total disarray. I went to the showroom to see if there was some flooring that could be installed in the living room and dining room that might be close enough that it would not be an obvious mismatch with the other three rooms. There were only two possibilities in any similar color but the best match of those two choices was not available for at least six weeks. I should have stopped right there and shut the project down, however, I did not know if I could find an available, better match and did not want to try to reload the hutch and buffet, shove the furniture back onto the dirty concrete and live with the mess while I looked for other flooring. Instead, I decided to install a much less attractive, cheaper product because it could be done the following day. After some negotiation Tompkins charged an additional $375 to remove the rest of the old living room flooring and install the new flooring in the living room, dining room and entry hall. Tompkins stated that they took a loss on the total job to include the living room in the installation at that price. Once the new flooring was installed it was obvious that the mismatch with the old flooring was extremely noticeable in the den which opened to the entry hall with double doors and a door open to the front door to the house. Upon entering the house the first thing that struck your eye was the fact that the flooring while similar did not match. This was much worse than the original situation with two entirely different types of flooring. I decided to redo the den in the new laminate and Tompkins agreed to do the work for $900 which they stated was their cost. I was told that they were unwilling to lose any more money on the project. So bottom line, for $4,275.00 I have matching flooring in the living room, dining room, den and entry hall. The flooring in the two bedrooms is a different color. It looks as if I am hoping no one will notice that they are the same. My goal of upgrading my home and increasing the resale value by coordinating the flooring throughout was not met. I could pay more to redo the two bedrooms which would meet my original goal of continuous flooring throughout, even if the product was less desirable, but decided to save the money. I would think that anyone trying to interlace existing flooring with new flooring of the same kind would verify that the two were compatible before beginning demolition as a matter of course. Tompkins stated that this is a very unusual occurrence where a product with the same name and model number was in fact not an identical product. Tompkins placed the entire blame on Armstrong for not identifying the change (however, did nothing to hold Armstrong responsible for the cost as far as I know). I do not know if the change was documented anywhere either on the phone or the packaging. Nevertheless, verification of compatibility seems to be an important first step when interlacing flooring.. Tompkins stated that they had gone out of their way to accommodate me, and was unsympathetic with my unhappiness with the outcome. It was clear from the onset that Tompkins would not willingly replace all the flooring throughout the affected rooms for the originally contracted $3,000 to achieve the goal of matching flooring. Tompkins did state that they performed some of the additional work at a loss and more of it at their cost. I would have given Tompkins a grade of F on this project except for the fact that I participated in a less than satisfactory solution. Over, the years I have had Tompkins install flooring for me several times and have been very happy with their work. I regret that was not the case this time.

When a product is discontinued we do not try to match it because of the potential problems it creates. Only because you were a past customer our salesperson tried very hard to locate your discontinued product so you could add on to you existing floor. Unfortunately, Armstrong neglected to notify us that the calibration and locking system changed in the new material. It is virtually impossible to know every detail of the thousands of flooring products we install. That is why we must rely on Armstrong when they advised us that it was the same material. Armstrong used the same style number and the same color name except they changed the locking system and recalibrated the material. They also did not identify the locking system changes on the box. We were unable to feather the new floor into the old discontinued floor due to the revisions that were made in the new flooring specifications. It is absolutely impossible to know the calibration and what type of locking system that was in the existing discontinued floor. We could only go by Armstrong’s word that the floor was the same product as the discontinued floor. Armstrong had no idea of the changes that were made between the new and the old floor. If Armstrong has no idea how could we possibly know the differences between the products? We don’t make the product we only install it. We saved you a lot of money by installing your floor below our cost. Tompkins Flooring was not the enemy here. We tried to help save you money. Maybe we should have just said sorry your floor is discontinued. That would have been the easy way for us. It would have saved us a lot of our time, energy, and money. However, that is not how we do business. Our family run business has strived to help our customers over the past 70 plus years. We go above and beyond, even sometimes at a loss, to provide the very best service for our customers. Our customers are very important to us, even when we save them money by installing flooring below our cost. You could not have purchased your floor from anyone anywhere for the price we sold it to you. Even though we had to write a check to complete this job, we will always have faith and respect for our customers. Thank you for choosing Tompkins Flooring a Family Run Business Since 1942

when we started this process (replace flooring) it took quite a while to figure out what we wanted to do Tompkins Flooring & Carisa, sales person did a great job in helping us to figure this out. Carisa showed us many samples to take home and help figure out what was best. We went with carpet in all the bedrooms, and hardwood throughout the rest of the house except the bathrooms. Once we decided Carisa scheduled George (their installer) to put it in. George and his crew did a Terrifif job !! It all looks Great ! could not be happier. Tompkins is professional, reliable & dependable.
Description of Work: install all new flooring throughout the house. Hardwood and carpet
George and crew arrived on time and removed all old carpet and laminate. They found that a crack in the slab needed repair before they could install hardwood. They recommended a co. EER to do the slab repair, who did a great job. After rescheduling the install of the hardwood and carpet everything went smoothly. They were very patient with my many questions and were always reachable. If you want flooring of any kind you definitely want to contact Tompkins Flooring first.

The installers, who were friendly but unobtrusive, did a very fine job. The floors look great.
Description of Work: Removed travertine and installed tile in livingroom, kitchen, and dining area.
Tompkins did a great job from beginning to end. Rick was the sales rep we worked with in the store. There was no pressure, no upsell. Just helped us find the look we were looking for at a fair price. We were trying to decide between two different wood options and one was almost twice as much as the other. He verified the warranty was the same for both and did not try to push the more expensive option in any way saying the quality would be similar. The installers for the wood and tile were led by Tom. They were quick and efficient. I was told Tom was one of the best wood installers they had and he proved so, making all the transitions from tile to wood flow without having to use any moulding despite some poor workmanship on the tile someone else had installed in our kitchen. It was extra work to get it to line up without needing moulding, but Tom took care of it and it looks great. Despite his expertise supposedly being wood, the tile that Tom installed looks better than any other tile installed in my home. The carpet guys came a couple days later and also did a great job. The install looks perfect, do not see any seems, no problems. As far as the install goes, the only thing I would do differently if it was my company would be to clean the wood and tile after install. It was somewhat disappointing to come home to these beautiful new floors not being cleaned at all on completion of the install. One other thing to note is this only pertains to my experience at the Irvine store. I went to the Laguna Hills store first and the sales guy was awkard and not very helpful and the selection was very poor. Definitely worth the little extra drive to go to the Irvine store!
Description of Work: Tompkins replaced nearly all flooring in our home. The master bathroom and kitchen had recently been remodeled, but other than that all flooring was replaced. Wood was installed in living room and hallway, carpet in bedrooms and up the stairs and in the loft and tile in the guest bathroom.
Tompkins' crews were prompt, efficient, personable, and professional. Tile was completed first. The old flooring was removed and disposed. The slab required more prep than expected and although the crew was surprised they dealt with it. They fixed the slab and got all the tile positioned the first day. On the second day they installed the grout and finished up the third day once the grout had set. Carpet crew came in the fourth day, completed the removal of existing flooring and installed the carpet. They finished in one day although scheduled for two. What a nice surprise. Shawna, the sales rep, was great at showing me tile and carpet within my budget that I really liked. When I realized before the project started that fireplace hearth needed tile, she made a quick contract modification and ordered another box of tile. So easy to work with! House looks beautiful, thank you Tompkins Flooring!

I decided to replace the tile in my house, found that Tompkins Flooring has great ratings on Angie's List. There was some miscommunication between me and Tompkins at the beginning, but my experience with Tompkins turned around when I met Jim Glenn, one of the floor and tile specialists with Tompkins in Irvine. He was so helpful, knowledgeable and patient with me. He helped me pick out my tile, measured my home and set up a time when the installers would be at my house. George Lopez and his 2 member crew arrived on time, very respectful, very hard workers. They cleaned up after themselves every day they were here. I gave an "A" rating for the price because I was so pleased with everything else. I didn't shop for tile anywhere else, so really can't attest to the cost. I highly recommend Tompkins flooring, as a matter of fact, I've already recommended them to one of my neighbors.

Two guys showed up Monday, November 11 at 9:00AM with the wood and asked me to make sure it was the correct wood. The floor was installed 2:00PM and it looks beautiful. They just finished and so far so good.
Description of Work: I called Tompkins Flooring in Laguna Niguel and talked to Carisa Ziegler and informed her what I wanted to have done. I wanted to install wood floor in my studio and I know exactly which wood I wanted to have. I had a sample at home so she asked me to bring it to them so we could check on the color etc. I went up the next day to their store and they had the wood sample in the store and it was a perfect match. Carisa came to my house Wednesday, November 6th and measured and checked things out. They called from Tompkins flooring the next day and they would get the wood by Monday, November 11.

I am very sorry you did not get a return call to schedule a measure. Please note that I checked with all my sales people at my three locations and no one remembers a call from you to set up a measure. I am a little perplexed because our policy is that our customers come into our showroom and select the type of flooring and color before we do any measuring. We generally do not measure without knowing the product choice from the customer in order to provide an accurate flooring estimate. Can you please tell me what store you called and the name of the person you spoke to regarding the measurement? I would greatly appreciate your help on this matter so I can locate the person and the store location. Jim Maniscalco

Karisa was my salesperson, very professional and polite. Arrived on time, and gave me a quote quickly. She even offered $700.00 off of my original quote, to arrive at the cost of service I entered. I decided to go with a polished concrete floor. Not sure that was such a good decision. Maybe 10 years from now I will go back to Thompkins Flooring to have the tile and wood floor installed as for now I have polished concrete. If I do that then, installation should be relatively simple as all I have are bare floors.
Description of Work: I did not use them because I decided to go with a polished concrete floor, only to think that this may have been the wrong choice and should have stuck with Thompkins flooring for hardwood floor and tile.

I was extremely happy with this company. I dealt with the Laguna Niguel office. So convenient for me! Carissa was the sales person at the store. She was well informed about all kinds of flooring. She was patient and kind. She was responsive and even called me several times on the phone during the process of installation. The other sales person at the office was also very helpful when I called to ask about preparing the floorboards. Alex, the installer, was a perfect craftsman. He and his crew move all of my furniture and didn't damage anything. He brought out three men to make sure the job got done early! My wood flooring is beautiful and perfect! I rave about this company to everyone. They even beat another bid I got by $900.

Rick helped us find a beautiful carpet and I've gotten so many compliments on the carpet. His crew was prompt and very professional. The price was very fair as well. We will use him again if there's any need in the future. Thanks Angie's List.
This is an excellent company to deal with. Their work is meticulous and the pricing is very fair. The people that I dealt with were courteous and helpful. All of the salespeople in the store were very nice. They educated me about different types of flooring and that was helpful also. The workers were very neat on the job and very professional. They added the same type of laminate flooring that was installed by the builder of our house and they were able to make it look as if the installation was seamless.
Description of Work: Tile, Laminate, carpet installation
It went very well. They did a great job. They were very professional. They were super clean and left everything impeccable. Paul was our main contact, and he was an amazing person. We will probably use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They did hardwood flooring downstairs and carpeting upstairs.
Great experience. Vicky was great to work with. Informative and not pushy. Products were great. Installation was great. They had to do some prep work because I had uneven concrete subfloors, but they were upfront about possible charges for that. No hidden agenda/fees. Not the cheapest quote we found, but I don't think I would want to go with the absolute cheapest. They had great people working on the floors and the final product is perfect. Fast installation too. Would definitely use for any future needs.
Description of Work: Removal of carpet, installation of engineered hardwood in 3 bedrooms and living room (approximately 900 square feet).
Went into Tompkins Flooring showroom in Irvine in mid Feb. Worked with Vicky Folkestad and relatively quickly selected a few possibilities - Vickly allowed us to take home samples and see how they looked in our home. Approx. a week later, we had made our final decision on hardwood and porcelin tile. Vicky then came out to our house with her installer, John Marine, who took detailed measurements. She then developed a detailed cost which seemed reasonable. In discussion with her, we got a very good feeling that they would do quality work. I was also very impressed with my discussion with the installer John, when he came out to the house. John had estimated that they could do the whole job of removal and new floor installation in 1 week. We had requested that floor be installed in early April to fit in with our schedules - they had no problem accomodating that. We have to put down a $1000 deposit - the rest would be paid at the end of the installation. A week before the scheduled start of the installation, I called and confirmed that everything was set to start on April 2 - they confirmed that all the material was in and they were ready to go. The Friday before, I also got a call confirming that they would show up to start the work on Monday, April 2. First crew showed up around 8:30 on Monday April 2 - there were 4 guys that immediately started work tearing out the ceramic tile. They moved furniture as needed and also wrapped it in plastic and also draped the walls with plastic to try and contain the dust that would be created. First day, they removed all of the existing tile and about 1/2 of the carpet. They also completed preps of the floors for the new tile which consisted of sanding of the concrete to make sure it was smooth. They also had to move the washer/dryer and pull a toilet. Second day, the same crew came back and laid all the tile. Observing them, they knew exactly what to do and worked very well together. They were very willing to do whatever I asked and also would ask what I wanted in some of the details. John Marine, the general contractor, would come by each day and check to make sure things were progressing well. In talking to him, he had been in the flooring installation business for some 25 years and seemed to very much know how to do the job. Late in the day another crew for the hardwood installation showed up to start prepping floors - they too had to sand the floors - this created a lot of dust - they tried their best to collect it with vaccums attached to their grinders but there was still alot of dust on everything at the end. On Wednesday, there were 2 teams of 2 that completed the floor prep and started laying the hardwood - they completed approx 80% by the end of the day. On Thursday, they finished off the hardwood installation and also completed installation of quarter round molding all around the perimeter of the hardwood. Also, on Thursday, the tile crew came back and grouted the tile and reinstalled the washer/dryer and toilet. They cleaned up everything, moved back the furniture per my request, packed up all their equipment and hauled away all of the trash (removed flooring). On Friday, 2 guys came back just to change out the carpet on the stairs - it took about 1/2 day to complete. Throughout this entire process, the crews were very nice, polite and very willing to do anything that I asked them to do. John Marine, the general contractor, had good confidence with all of his workers - the workers also seemed to have good respect for John and seemed to like working for him. Job was completed ontime and we are very pleased with the end result. This overall experience was very positive and I would highly recommend Tompkins Flooring (Vicky Folkestad) and the installer that she uses ( John Marine).
Description of Work: Completely replaced all flooring on first story of our house (approx. 1300 sq ft) - included removal of existing carpet and ceramic tile. New flooring was approx 1000 sq ft of engineered hardwood flooring and 300 sq ft of porcelin tile. Also had stairway carpet replaced with carpet we previously had.

A wonderful shopping experience. We called the Laguna Niguel store. Carisa came to our house to measure and show us samples based on my wife's description of what we wanted. None of the samples were quite right. We then went to the store to pick our actual carpet. She waited for us for more than half an hour after closing to accommodate our schedule. We found the carpet we wanted. The price was significantly less (between 10% and 20% less, if I remember correctly) than similar carpet from Home Depot, and I think the carpet we got was better quality. The carpet was available when she said it would be. The installers were on time and the installation went without a hitch. In and out and done in less than a day. They moved the heavy furniture out and back for us, and cleaned up after the work very well. A couple months later, we have not found any problems with either the carpet or the installation. Hopefully we won't need carpet again for a long time, but if we do, we'll go back.
Description of Work: Replaced the carpeting in most of our house: family room, living room, hall, and master bedroom. Total carpet purchased was slightly over 100 square yards.
