I prepaid on Angies list for a $39 A/C tune-up. When booking they told me it may be too cold to do the A/C tune-up so we agreed depending on the weather do an AC or a Furnace tuneup. When they turned up they planned and did a furnace tuneup. The guys were on time, polite, clean enough and went about their work. I dont really know what the tuneup involves and they did not really say other than the furnace is in good condition and all is ok. Then they got out an invoice and told me as per what the office said I needed to pay them $80 which was $89 - 10%. To me, it seemed like they were uneasy asking for this but its not a lot of money and I just paid it. They had sent me emails saying furnace tuneup for Anglies list members for $49, and also an AC and Furnace tuneup for $89. So why are they charging me $89 for just a furnace tuneup after I already paif $39 for an AC tuneup. It all feels a bit like a bait and switch on the billing. Also my coupon for the AC tuneup expires next month but they said they will honor it later and not to worry about the expiry date. It just seems a little bit strange and I wont be surprised in the least if come April they say the coupon is expired. Apart from the billing (and to be fair I had read prior reviews warning me about this) and not really knowing what they did, I am happy they seemed to do something. As for the $80 its more a question of integrity so I will wait to see what happens next (maybe the will refund the $31 difference between what they emailed me the price was and what they charged me. This company has everything right except the billing and general professionalism re what they actually do. Update 3/5/2013 - The contacted me, apologized over the price mix-up, explained the need to use Angies List to get the coupon price and refunded $41. Therefore I changed my price review from F to A and overall from C to B. i have also asked them to give me an estimate for more work and got to meet the owner and another technician and so far I am much more impressed. Credit is due to a company that follows up to change an unhappy customer to a happy customer!! i have changed my overall rating to a B which only really reflects the fact they don't explain too well exactly what is done during the service or tune-up. I feel a simple printout/leaflet showing what is checked/fixed for each type of service would fix this problem.

Technician was very professional and polite, thoroughly checked out my heating and airconditioning unit. Suggested a boost start for airconditioner to relieve stress on motor. I agreed and the work was done with a minimal fuss.

The gentleman from Kalka was very personable but I know there was something wrong when he immediately started making comments about how old my heater was and how it looked like it needed to be replaced even before he started inspecting it! He said the heater looked like it was leaking and if he found a leak the entire heater would need to be replaced. He spent an hour or more looking but never showed me any leak but called his office and they told him there had to be one anyway so he turned off the heater and said it could not be turned back on and needed to be replaced. He then moved on to the A/C unit (which is fairly new) and told me that it needed to be charged with coolant and that I had a unit that required the most expensive coolant and said it would be around $400 to fill it up. I asked him to send me his findings and a quote to fix or replace what he said needed to be done and never got any quote from them at all. I had to chase him down weeks later just to get him to send his "findings" but never got any quote for all the work he said needed to be done. After my ordeal with Kalka I asked SoCal Gas to come inspect everything and they checked the heater, turned it on, and it has been running daily with no issues ever since. What a scam! The $49 tune-up offer is just a way for them to get in the door and try to upsell you on things you don't really need. I am quite sure they will deny it but the truth is plain to see. My guess is there are others who have fallen for this trick also. What a waste of money and a shamefull way to do business.

Went really well. I would recommend them.

Furnace would run then stop after a couple of minutes. Kalka sent a man out who thought it was a pressure sensor that was malfunctioning. They ordered the part and two days later came to install. The guys did some more testing and thought it was a heat sensor that was not functioning. They said that usually if the pressure sensor was not working the furnace wold not run at all. They had a heat sensor with them, installed it and tested it out. The sensor, officially known as the "high limit switch" was quite a bit cheaper than the pressure switch. I thought they did a thorough job and stayed for quite a while to make sure everything was running correctly. Cost was $59 for the first visit and $169 for installation and testing. Compared to some of the other companies I have used I thought their price was very reasonable.

I ordered the service for a regular maintanence service. The technician arrived on time and did a thorough check up and recommended several items. I have some urgent ones done and also signed on an annual service contract covering both A/C and furnace. At the end of 2012, I called and have the furnace service done. I declined the technician's recommendation of a UV light installation and the technician performed the routine work regardless.

The service was fine. The appointment was confirmed the night prior. The furnace inspection led to a recommendation for a new furnace, but the serviceman was not pushy or rude. The results were great. We a getting much better flow of hot air.

The maintenance was completed in a timely manner and I received complete answers to all of my questions.

They were able to come out the next day and to accommodate my schedule. Installed the new thermostat and did some trouble shooting when the heat didn't come on right away. Friendly and professional.

It turned out excellent. They were very timely, and explained everything. They installed a start up kit and I noticed a difference in my bill right away.

The two men showed up on time-revieed my Heating/A/C system and discussed possible future improvements. Very professional.

2 service technicians arrived to do the inspection and tune up. They reported that the furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and said the furnace had be replaced. They also reported that all the ducting had to be replaced due to asbestos insulation used to insulate the ducting. I asked for a quote for all their recommendations. The 2 technicians were very courteous and polite, but I thought the recommendations for the work required was excessive.

My girlfriend was here so I can't really say other than she was very pleased with how professional the service tech was.

everything went according to plan. they were helpful in getting us a NOS furnace, which helped with the price.

It went very smoothly

The technician noted that my ducting was in poor condition and recommended replacement (original to the house and about 30 years old). I agreed to do this in a future visit. They also discovered a slowly leaking copper pipe in the attic and they recommended repair as soon as possible. As Kalka is a plumbing company, I arranged to have them perform this repair as well. The technician that performed the inspection did not have one of the air filters that he needed on his truck and he agreed to come by on the next day and drop it off on my front doorstep. He forgot about it and it took several phone calls to finally get the air filter delivered to me.

I was very pleased with the whole experience.

The technician arrived promptly, was very professional and was very thoughtful about caring for our property while performing his tasks. He performed the service well. He worked well with us as we coordinated the services on all three properties. One of the units required some further maintenance so he had his management contact us for an estimate to repair or replace the unit. We eventually replaced the unit but used a different company (from Angie's List).

I responded to an Angie's List special on checking my air conditioning before the summer commenced. I set up my appointment as per Angie's List and waited for the service person to arrive between a usual 4 hour time period. He never showed up during the 4 hour period of time and I never received a call saying he would be late, was stuck in traffic etc. Instead, I had to call this company to find out where the service man was. Not a good customer service experience. Finally arrived, late, which messed up the afternoon for me, and proceeded to check my air conditioner. I guess he did a good job. I couldn't tell. He wasn't at my home that long but he said the air conditioner was fine and I shouldn't have a problem. He was right since I had no trouble over the hot summer. I just feel, even if I was getting a "special" Angie's List price on the service, that punctuality is very important. Or at least a phone call saying the service man would be late. I understand there can be extenuating circumstances that would hold a service person up and cause the late arrival, but what I don't understand is that lack of some kind of notice about it. I shouldn't have to call to find out why the service person hasn't arrived. I would have totally understood the late arrival or even having to set up another appointment if I had been notified. Apologies were given but it doesn't take away the fact that no one seemed to care about how my day was disrupted. Customer Service should be the Number 1 concern of all companies, because that how you keep customers who will return for further business.

Estimate was good. Show up on time. Some part attention to detail could be better - but overall would use again.

Contractor did not seem to sell more 'stuff' than was needed. Entire removal & replacement was approx 6 hours. There were sheet metal screws left on the garage floor which posed a potential tire hazard.

Waited all day for them to show up. They called me at 3 saying they would not be showing up. Wasted my time-never doing business with them.

We have insurance that we would use to cover the work so would not use them for work for that reason.
