We had originally purchased an Early-Bird Furnace Tune-Up from them through Angie's List. We were a little disappointed that, although we called on November 24, they were not going to be able to do the service until December 12. It was not a big deal because the weather had not been very cold and the furnace seemed to be working fine. Unfortunately, the weather turned cold and the furnace would not start. At first, we called American Home Shield, because we have a plan with them. When they could not find someone to come out and wanted me to wait 5 hours before I called them back, I called Kalka and told them the problem. They had someone there within a couple of hours. The man from Kalka found the problem quickly and was prepared to fix it on the spot, but we determined that a somewhat expensive fix would not really deal with the big problem; the furnace was the original and over 30 years old. It really needed to be replaced. Without heat and the weather getting even colder, we were faced with the decision to do the repairs or get a new furnace or both. Kalka was able to get us on their schedule to put in a new furnace at around 9:00 the next morning (today). The installers arrived on time, were very professional, and did a great job. They moved a lot of gardening equipment from around the furnace to do the work and then cleaned everything up when they were done. They went over the new equipment with us and explained how it all worked. The only reason I put "N/A" under price is because it all happened so fast that I did not have tip to price shop. I do know that it was a better decision in the long run than having them do the repairs to the old furnace. We now have heat and the peace of mind that we don't have a 30-year old furnace that could ultimately be dangerous. I was extremely happy with the service provided by Kalka and will be definitely be using them if we go ahead and have duct work done.
Description of Work: Inspected and re-lit furnace. After determining that the repairs needed would be relatively expensive and that the furnace was over 30 years old, we decided to have them install a new furnace, coil and thermostat.

I purchased the special coupon for the full air conditioner inspection. They found a problem with one of my air conditioners and fixed it for an additional cost of $300. I was going to go with him but then I looked again on Angie's list and there was another air conditioning company which was Command AC who had the exact same unit on a big deal also and I wounded up going with him. So I didn't actually use Kalka but they were very professional. It's just that their price was just almost double. It was too high and the other company was the best priced and so I wounded up going with them. But as far as everything else from the representative from Kalka they were very processional, they knew their stuff and explained things to me and all of that but I just didn't go with them because of the price. They quoted me 5500 for the unit and installation as well. They seemed like a good company, it's just that their price was high. They responded and called before they came. They were right on time, very professional and detailed.

When the customer made the appointment, she had already purchased the equipment to be installed and asked that we remove the old one and replace it with the new one. When we arrived to the job site, the customer told the technician that she had forgotten to order the power cord that accompanied the unit but it was ok to replace the current unit and she would order the cord to complete the install. We agreed to perform the work and return at a later date to install the power cord and not additional cost, although this is not part of our regular service. The install was completed without an issue once the new power cord arrived at the customer’s home. As for the power cord, since we did not order the unit, we are not familiar with the manufacture specifications. Therefore, we were unable to provide any information on what type/size of power cord she should order. We did, however, advise that she call the manufacture to obtain the appropriate power cord. We also set up a follow up appointment to meet with the customer and discuss the install; the customer cancelled the appointment and stated they would call back with to reschedule, we have yet to hear from them. He did what he said he was going to do. The only thing that was a little disappointing was, we did need a new air conditioning system but the prices they quoted were considerably higher than what I got from some place else. I had the other people install the air conditioner. But as far as the Big Deal goes, I was satisfied. The service that he provided himself was thorough and he checked everything completely. So I don't have any complains at all about the Big Deal.

The service went relatively smoothly. The serviceman (I have since forgotten his name, although I think it was Jerry) was very professional and answered my questions. He did the water heater flush and then recommended a new rod in order to prevent the tank from corroding. He also installed a new valve. After he left, the water pipe that is supposed to offer relief from the tank was leaking. It hadn't been leaking before. I had to tape a zip lock bag to the pipe (but I did NOT block the pipe as that could cause the tank to explode). After two weeks, I finally called them back (I'd been busy), and Jerry (if I'm remembering correctly), installed a new valve and thankfully, it stopped leaking. He also turned down the water temperature, as the higher water temperature was also causing a water hammer. Thankfully, they did not charge me for this rerepair. Overall, I'm very satisfied, and happy that he came back to fix what he had done before.

I purchased a big deal for a HVAC tune up. The tech came out in winter to tune up the furnace, and everything went fine. I had absolutely no complaints. In the spring, I scheduled the AC tune up and a new tech came out, along with the old one. After examining everything, he told me that my coil was "colonized with bacteria" and extremely dirty and it was restricted and affecting my indoor air quality, and that a part on my compressor needed to be replaced.. He suggested cleaning the coil, replacing the coil, or replacing the entire HVAC. I said I would talk to my husband and think about it. He kept pushing me to do something, and said that whatever I did that day would be deductible against a future job if I changed my mind, so I had nothing to lose. He even asked me to call my husband at work, even though this really wasn't urgent. I felt pressured, and given their reputation and prior interaction, I believed his assessment and had the one part replaced. He even gave me a quote ($10000) for replacing the whole unit, but when I asked for specs of what I would be getting, he told me it would it would be a maytag, probably a 13 SEER, which he said would be an upgrade for me. I was a little shocked that he had so few details, but expected that I would pay $10000 without knowing what I was getting. I told him I'd think about it, and he left and hour plus later (by this time, both kids were melting down, and I really could not think about this further). The next day I called two other HVAC companies for quotes, and when they came out they said that the coil was fine, and it did not need replacement. They also said my unit was a 13 SEER and was working fine - not optimal, but fine and I should wait till it has issues before spending the money to replace it. I called Kalka back, obviously a little upset at this point. The supervisor was responsive and he scheduled Kevin Kalka to come out. Kevin and another tech came out and verified everything and agreed that the coil was fine and that the system was functional, but not ideal. They were both very knowledgeable and brought up some good points about my system to consider when it is time for an upgrade. None of which were brought up by the first tech - he would have just sold me a $10000 system that had the same SEER rating as my current system and none of the real issues with my system would have been addressed - and that irks me to no end. Anyway, Kevin discounted the amount I paid on my part replacement (I asked for this given that I now had zero faith in the first tech's assessment). I would have given them an F based on my first AC tuneup experience, but I believe that Kevin is really genuinely honest and it is not the values of this company to swindle customers. If I had only interacted with him, I would give them an A. But I feel there is some inconsistency in their techs, and given that I could have been taken for a very expensive ride by one of their techs(purposefully or not), makes me uncomfortable using them in the future.

Description of Work: I originally had them out for an "end of the summer" A/C tune-up! FANTASTIC JOB. Then I signed up for their plumbing and water heater inspection. Zach was my technician and he was fabulous. He was very thorough, explaining anything I asked about, including chlorine levels in my water. He showed me where some of my connections under the sinks needed to be replaced - in fact - as he touched one - it broke off in his hand - and he fixed it on the spot! I scheduled him to come back out and complete the replacement of the rest - and again - he didn't disappoint! I would definitely recommend this company to all my friends. Appointment was rescheduled at the vendor's request. On the revised date, the technicians arrived on time. Two well-groomed young men in uniforms. I thought they were ambulance drivers or paramedics at the wrong address. I wasn't expecting anyone this clean or professional. They spent approximately two hours going through my HVAC system. My impression is that they were very thorough. I would use this vendor again. What I liked: Prompt Courteous Clean Professional Spoke perfect English Took time to educate the customer The only way this job could have been better is if they had the required filter on their truck. Now I must find and replace the filter on my own. From this service encounter, I have concluded that this firm has chosen quality as their basis of competition. They must invest in training (and the aforementioned uniforms) to have a staff this professional.

One of the few providers that was willing to schedule a service call for a Saturday. The provided updates during the schedule window and notified me when the tech was en route. The tech was friendly, didn't mind answering questions and completed the job in a professional manner. I didn't receive the big "upsell" that some had referenced in their reviews. PROS: The company responded quickly to the purchase and arranged an appointment at a convenient time The technician arrived within 5 minutes of the appointed time. The technician was courteous and professional, and deported himself in a manner that indicated experience and knowledge of A/C systems. The technician expeditiously tested Freon pressures to determine level and compressors function. The remainder of the visit was all visual inspection of the system. The technician did climb into the attic to view the ductwork. CONS: A major benefit of the "tune-up" was to introduce me to a company that had an A- rating which seems a candidate for replacing a lot of A/C and heating systems but the response issue noted below will direct me to others. Other than the basic measurements, there was no "tune-up" actions. The Freon levels were 'low but acceptable'. No Freon was added; the "tune-up" package did not include the older type Freon needed. The system did not perform any better afterward than before. The technician pointed out system problems without a hard sell, but, by the time we were done, I was asking for a quote on new furnace, new furnace plenum for the A/C system, new outdoor A/C unit, asbestos mitigation, duct work removal and replacement, and relocation of the main A/C return ducting. In truth, the system is old and all of this may be needed; the technician had good rationale for each item. The major problem is that I asked him to prepare a quotation for the work to be done in coming months. I heard nothing further by phone or mail or email. I called the office and found the technician no longer works there; I was referred to manager, who also has not contacted me, now 6 weeks since the appointment. The inspection that was done would have been part of a "sales call", so the tune-up provided little or no benefit.

.During the hot season could not get an appointment for 9 days. After 2 days called and said they could come that afternoon. Showed up in 30 minutes and was able to simply add a $390 starter motor to my 24 year old air conditioner and it has been working great for the last week. i was worried i needed a whole new unit which would have cost $4,000 - $5,000. They even wear booties when they enter your home

They were very professional and wanted to provide a contract for long-term care of A/C. Once our Home Warranty is up, we have full intention of purchasing. They changed my air filter at no additional cost.

I actually didn't go that well. They came out shortly after I purchased it and I didn't spend any more other than the cost of the deal. The main reason why I had purchased the deal was my AC fan wasn't turning off quickly and I wanted them to come put and do a tuneup. The person who came out identified that the problem was with the AC relay and they quoted $1000 to fix it. It wasn't guaranteed that it would work that well and he recommended that I replace my air conditioner for $9000. I felt like I went in for an oil change and I'm being told I need a new car. It was upsetting because my dad did some research and the air condition company and discovered the brand of air conditioner that I had was one of the top brands and it showed his lack of experience. I looked up a lit of top air conditioners and mine was number 3 and the one he was trying to sell me was number 20 on the list. We got another estimate and this guy said he could fix my relay for $300 but he also did some checking and found that my furnace had a crack in it and it would leak carbon monoxide and kill someone. He refused to fix it because it would kill him and he recommended that we get it replaced.

We prefer to install Maytag equipment because it has the best warranties in the industry; this is a fact and not an opinion. All Maytag equipment has a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger, 12 years on parts, and Maytag’s Dependability Promise. That promise is as follows: if any major component fails, Maytag will replace the entire unit, not just the faulty part. Furthermore, the price of $8796 was to replace your entire HVAC system with our Deluxe package, not just the air conditioner. We are concerned about the state of your Furnace and recommend you have it replaced as soon as possible.
