Description of Work: We just used them for the $39.00 tune up special. We knew our unit was old and were interested in what our options would be for replacement. They were prompt in calling us, showed up on time and provided us with an reasonable competitive estimate for a new unit. I rated them a "B" because I would have to have another company they use to come in to do the duct work and I was more interested in a company that does it all.

Description of Work: I had my air conditioner serviced by Kalka on 7/20 and the technician inspected my furnace, which was 55 years old. He stated it was in severe disrepair and neede to be replaced. Well, I'd heard that before and knew that at some point it would need to be replaced. We had a couple of other quotes and they ran $5,000 to $6,000. The guy from Kalka serviced my A/C unit and then gave me a quote on the furnace replacement. $2,776 installed complete. Well, I unfortunately jumped on that and so this morning the installers showed up promptly at 9 am as promised and began to remove my old furnace. After removing the furnace, burners and blower unit they had me up in the attic to look at the 'coil'. Now, I have no idea what a 'coil' is but apparently it is essential to the complete and correct functioning of a furnace. "This is rusted and needs to come out" Okay, I gave the go ahead to remove and replace the coil. Here's where "Buyer beware" comes into play. The "coil' is not a physical part of the furnace. They are separate. And as such, incurs a separate cost. To the tune of $2,100. To bring my bargain basement $2,776 to a total of $4,876. If the original quote had included the possibility of a 'coil' replacement, I would not had been so eager to jump on the deal. I did not have an extra $2,100 to spend today and had the installers leave the job. Which is all fine and good except for the fact that now I do not have a functioning air conditioner in the dead of summer. Had the original quote included the 2K for a possible 'coil' replacement I would not have agreed to the job. And apparently you can't tell if your 'coil' needs replacement until the old furnace is completely ripped out. So I now have and empty attic, a rusted 'coil" and a non functioning A/C unit. Now on the positve side, the installers from Kalka were extremely nice and professional and I do not hold any animosity towards them. I cannot say the same for Thomas Gillespie, who gave me the original quote on Friday. I understand that the quote is a good faith estimate and extras are always incurred. But a $2,100 surpise that nearly doubles the original quote is unacceptable.

Description of Work: A/C was not cooling properly. The tech, Adam, came and inspected the unit and explained in good detail what needed to be done. It was low on freon and needed the capacitor replaced. He also gave it a general tune-up and cleaned the filter.The girl from the office kept me appraised of his arrival time through out the morning and he called me 30 minutes before his arrival. The job was completed within 90 minutes. He was very conscious of walking through the house with shoe coverings.Adam had a very good, professional appearance.
