Upon initial phone contact I spoke with Tony Martin and requested a home visit to provide an estimate for extending an existing kitchen tile into the family room. He insisted that he didn't need to see the project and instead requested specific dimensions of the room, and provided a quote of 600. to 700. to install the tile and floor boards. He also agreed to attempt to locate the tile, as the kitchen tile was purchased in Anaheim by a contractor, but I wasn't sure which tile store it had been purchased from. He did not want to come to my home to pick up a sample tile , but repeatedly called me requesting that I drive to an exit on the 405 to meet him and hand deliver the tile. Due to a busy work schedule, I did not have time to meet him at the hours he requested, so we called another floor installer who promptly came to our house to retrieve a floor sample and agreed to search for it. A few days later, Tony Martin called again and said that he'd be in the area and could pick up a sample of the tile. Since we had not heard back from installer #2, we gave Tony a sample tile. The following day he called to say that he located the tile at an Anaheim tile store; however, they only had 200 square feet left because it was discontinued, and he would need to pay cash for it if I wanted it. He claimed that it cost $3. 95/ square foot. He offered to pay for it and deliver it to my home that day, so I agreed. He called back before the delivery and requested that I have $700.00 in cash upon his arrival. I did not have $700. in cash in my home, but offered a check. He declined and said that he needed cash and would wait for me to go to the bank to retrieve it. I did so, and when I asked for a receipt he got angry and informed me that he had no receipt; repeatedly stating that I agreed to pay him $700. He then looked at the family room and informed me that the installation would cost $1350. When I reminded him that the original quote was 600. - 700. he replied that he had not included thin-set or grout in the original quote; just labor. The following day, installer #2 called me to announce that he had located the tile and it cost $1.36/ square foot, at Pacific Tile in Anaheim. I mentioned this to Tony and he informed me that installer #2 was lying to me, just to upset me, because I was using a different installer. I contacted Pacific Tile directly and confirmed that the tile was $1.36/square foot and they had more than 2500 square feet in stock. As I am writing this review, installer #2 is in our family room installing the expensive tile.
Description of Work: We had planned to have him install tile floors in our family room.
