I got a bid from Jay on replacing the roof, he explained that he could see a few issues and warned that he could not be sure of the wood damage until the old roof was removed. I was impressed with Jay's honesty, and also the fact that they gave a 10 year warranty on their workmanship, all the other bids I received were only 5 years. Jay did everything from pulling the permit to final inspection with myself. After the job was completed I saw a few fascia boards that did not look very good, from previous termite company repairs. Jay stated he could have replaced while doing the roof but he new cost was an issue. I expressed my disappointment in the look of the fascia board and he gave me a very good price to replace the ugly boards. I am very happy with the look of my new roof and Jay took the time to help me and did what he said he would. Many companies just talk and then don't do the job correctly. I will recommend this company and will use again.

I did not go with Above It All Roofing, mainly because the estimate provided by Above It All Roofing could not beat one other competitor. Having said that, I must say that Above It All Roofing, and Scott in particular, was punctual, conscientious, courteous and professional through the entire process. It's not that AIAR was not competitive in pricing -- it was -- but it was a personal choice to sacrifice on some of the customer service that AIAR would provide for a little more savings. When I contacted AIAR for an estimate, I expected them to come to my home some time during the day and make the necessary measurements/assessments and email me a general estimate. Scott told me that they always want the home owner there for various reasons, but mainly because they want the homeowner to know exactly what they saw and make sure they understood the homeowners vision and expectations for the finished work. He also brought samples and other brochures to educate and inform me. I really appreciated that. When I had to break the bad news to Scott and AIAR that I wouldn't be going with them, they obviously were disappointed, but very professional. They asked some basics questions about the estimate we were going with so that everything was compared apples to apples (it was). He made one last call to his bosses to see if they could come close to the competitor's estimate, but unfortunately, they couldn't. Either way, I came away very impressed with AIAR and Scott. Thank you.

Jay Gioia was our Project Manager. We love our new roof and it was a stress-free experience. Jay took care of everything. Throughout the project, Jay was professional, patient and easily accessible. His crew arrived on time, kept the project on time, and left a clean work site at the end of each day. We have received so many compliments on our new roof from our neighbors. It has added tremendously to our curb appeal and peace of mind to know that we have a sound new roof over our heads. I would definitely recommend Jay if you are looking for a new roof.
Description of Work: Our old wood shake roof was removed, as well as the roof underneath it. The previous owners had installed a second roof over the existing one. We had extensive termite damage and dry rot. All dry rotted fascia, shiplap and rafter tails were replaced.. Radiant barrier plywood was installed. New roof installed with GAF Timberline High Definition Shingles in Hickory. Rain gutters and TV antenna were removed and hauled away.

This was my second estimate. The first roofer took forever to complete the estimate, which wasn't a very good sign. I called Above It All Roofing and my representative, Jay Gioia, was punctual and quite professional. It was obvious he knew what he was talking about. He told me a lot more than the previous company, explaining everything to me and answering all my questions. As it turned out, Jay was the Project Manager, and managed my project to completion. I found him very trustworthy and felt confident after our discussion of what was needed. He was honest about the entire project. This was good, because I was leaving town and hoped he could have it all completed by the time I got back a week later. He managed it all, including scheduling the city inspector to work in synch with his team. I left town, and he kept me informed every step of the way via email. When I returned --- it was all complete, not a speck of rubble or dust. Completely painless. The price was in line with what I expected, not overly expensive at all. And I received a quality job with quality materials and workmanship. I would highly recommend hiring Jay and Above It All Roofing.

Their Estimate came in at just under $7,600. The winning contractors bid came in at under $4,000. Two other Angie's listed contractors estimates also came in very close to the winning bid.
Description of Work: No work was performed because the estimate was extremely high and not in line with other estimates. The estimate was for re-roofing one side and replacing skylight & repairing roofing near the chimney, approx 2 days work. The Representative was professional and courteous.

Our price was higher because we gave a bid to replace the roof, not repair it. This was the only option for a roof in that condition.

This was a team from beginning to end. They have worked together for many years and it shows. They respect each other, and it shows in their work. Both speak English and both want to be sure that the customer is happy. Jay returned all phone calls promptly, or explained why he couldn't.. Over the years, we have worked with many contractors. Jay and Elias are professionals. We were delighted that Jay really listened when we explained what we wanted our roof to look like, a budget we wanted to work within, and he provided products that were spot on. We are delighted with the color, the texture of the tiles and and the way the dormers were placed. My neighbor came home after two days away and was shocked to see that the roof was done. We weren't. This is a great team and we highly recommend them. They are the REAL DEAL!!

Scott was professional and courteous from commencement to completion of project. If initially unavailable by cell phone, then he promptly returned calls. The total cost for the entire project was the mean cost, amongst the three estimates I had asked for. The face-to-face meetings, knowledge base of the job, promptness of returning calls and the projected time of completion were the primary selling points for me. On the day of the demolition, however, the demo crew showed up half a day late. They later sent more staff to complete the demolition (in near the time projected). It appears that in the demo crews haste, an ornamental plant was damaged. Scott readjusted the price to compensate for the plant. The roofing crew were fast and efficient. They did a good job cleaning up the debris left after each work day. In the end, the re-roofing was completed in a timely manner. The workmanship looks good. And I now have the piece of mind of a solid roof over my families heads.
Description of Work: Re-roofing of home and dettached garage (total 1300 sq. feet): Demolition and haul away. Install flashing and caps. Install drip edge metal. Install crown on hips and ridges. Install 30# ASTM. Install step flashings @ chimney and bulkheads. Replace dryrotted wood (including all facia board).

Everything was fine and the estimate went down a few hundred dollars since the damage was less than they expected. We will see when it rains if the problem was fixed. I am confident that it was and if not I feel they will come back if necessary. They returned my call quickly and Jay was very nice and professional.
Description of Work: Had a roof leak going down the side of the house. They came and repaired the area and will find out if all is well after it rains. They said they guarantee it to come out 2 more times if necessary. A nice way to do it instead of time since you have no idea how much and when it might rain.

We got quotes from several roofing companies, and Above It All Roofing was very competitive. The other providers we had contacted all had good reviews on Angie's List, so what made us choose Above It All was the amount of effort they put in to get our business, and to make sure we were happy. Before we had even signed the contract, Jay Giola stopped by our house more than once, to do the initial estimate, drop off samples, etc. He worked to negotiate the lowest price that he could on materials, and matched any extras offered by the other roofers that we had talked to. Jay was able to schedule us within several weeks of the contract signing. His crew showed up right on time and worked very hard. We were very impressed their pride in workmanship -- when my husband would go outside, the foreman would excitedly talk to him about what they were working on, and explain why the methods they were using were the best for our roof. We had one small mishap where a worker stepped on a wooden roof board and it broke, allowing him to step through our ceiling (he wasn't hurt, thankfully). Our house is 50 years old, so the wooden slats that support the roof were unexpectedly weaker in places. The workers temporarily covered the hole, and Jay had a drywall contractor come out and patch our ceiling. The contractor he brought in did an excellent job (we kept his contact info in case we need some drywall work done in the future!), and was able to seamlessly match our textured ceiling. Jay also offered to bring in a painter to repaint the section of ceiling, but it was such a small area that we said we would do it ourselves. Overall, we were extremely happy with the work that they did. They did a good job cleaning up, too - I found maybe 5 or 6 nails in the months afterward that had been missed. I wanted to wait a bit before posting this review so that we could live with the roof for awhile first -- we are just as happy with it now as the day that they finished. Thank you, Above It All Roofing (and Jay!)!

Description of Work: While other bids pushed for a new roof, Above it All indicated the roof could last another 5 years with a "tune up", which fit my situation very well. That provided a significant savings against others. They also came back to fix a portion that I did not communicated to them clearly, for free. Will use again.

Above it All was not the first roofer we contacted - nor were they the cheapest (although their quote was very competitive) - We called to request a qoute, and we made arrangements for a couple days later to meet with Scott. Scott took a look at the roof, and I showed him where my concern areas were (existing leaks etc). Unforuntately, due to the condition of the roof - the best course of action was getting a whole new roof ( same thing 3 other companies told us as well - we were ready for it!) Scott sat down with me, and discussed the different options available - He also had a selection of shingle samples in his car to review. After running all the measurments, Scott was able to give me a full quote before he even left the initial inspection (vs multiple days for other companies). We made our decision on the spot based on both the price, and the comfert level we felt with Scott and Above it All. We were able to secure a date about 2 weeks off - which gave us time to get everything situated. Our roof job started on a Thursday - Day 1 included tear off only - The crew arrived exactly (to the minute) when we were told they would arrive - and the did quick work of our roof (3 layers - 2 seperate structures) - They left the roof looking nice and clean - down to the bare wood. The also cleaned up the mess that was caused by removing the roof. Bravo! Friday - the Above It All roof guys came - again -right when they said they would! They started with wood repair - thankfully - most of the wood was solid. The next step was the only negative part of the project, and it has NOTHING to do with Above it All - but the City of Long Beach Inspector had a super busy day, so he didn't come out until 3:00pm - The good news is he said the wood was in great condition, and the roofers did a great job in prepping! Bravo again! (Note: Above it All arranged for all the permits/inspections! made life easy!) My fears were that this delay would push the completion back until next week - WE were pushing for finishing by Sat - Scott called and said his crew felt they could finish - I crossed my fingers. Some of the roofing was done on Friday -but the crew had to go home at some point! Saturday AM _ Again - right on time - The crew showed up (I think there was a few extra guys!) They got the entire roof done just after lunch time - Amazing! The roof looks awesome! 4 vents were installed - they look great, plus all the existing vents were properly installed and connected. Overall - I give Above It All Roofing, and their rep Scott an A+. I hope to never have to use them for 40 years at this house - but if i had a new house needing a roof - i'd go straight to them.
Description of Work: Tear off of old roof - 3 Layers - 1 Story house, with detached 2 car garage. New 40 year warrenty shingle roof installed. 4 addiotional low-profile vents installed as well.

We interviewed six contractors for this job. The estimates came in with an enormous spread. Some said only minimal repair was necessary and only wanted a few thousand. Sears walked in and wanted to give us a super high tech roof insured for 100 years for well over $40k, except that in the end they refused to work with our flat roof anyway. Jay Gioia from Above it All Roofing met us extremely quickly after the initial call. We were very educated about our roof, as he was the sixth contractor to speak to us about it. He spotted all the issues we were aware of, was aware of the current code specifications, and gave us an on-the-spot estimate with a nicely prepared form. Out of six contractors, he was the ONLY one who was capable of producing this level of estimate on the fly. He also informed us of a silicon-based super white product to roll onto our low slope roof that effectively has sealed it against future water intrusion and made it enormously reflective. Super high tech and wonderful, but not too expensive. We were very excited by these options. The entire time, Jay was just... easy to work with. We had to be sending constant paperwork to our insurance company to prove we were actually replacing the roof. Then Jay's estimates were too "quality" for the insurance, because they were beyond code. Jay told us the new codes actually required this level of quality. We spent weeks talking to the code office, Jay, and our insurance. Turns out, the current code specs are anything but clear. Depends on the permitter you ask. But in the end, Jay was correct, and he helped us get thousands of dollars more from our insurance by writing several different estimates to conform to their ever-more-strict requirements. He really put up with a lot from us, and I deeply appreciate that. He also made contact with the HVAC installers and worked out a coordinated time. The two sides worked together well and were very cordial the entire time. When the work crews came, they took off the old roof in record time. As seems usual for a situation like this, the home-owner does have to work a bit to make sure the work crew foreman, Jay, and the owner's ideas are coordinated during the job. Our roof held some surprises. We revealed more extensive water and termite damage in the wood than anticipated, and needed to coordinate our termite company to come out so they could spray into the walls and other places only opened up during construction like this. The entire time, Jay was just mellow, "Hey... do what you got to do and let me know when we can continue." We shifted work between the high and low slope roofs as necessary to accomodate the four contractors on the properly simultaneously (electrical, HVAC, termite, roofing). Our roof ended up also having almost double the rafters expected, for some reason they were positioned very close together in our odd construction. Jay just accepted the increased cost and time of extending all that timber out to the new roof edge. In the end, we had a brand new roof that dropped our internal temperature by 5 degrees from color and quality alone. But the new awnings had necessarily broken the old stucco around our house. Plus the old gutters had been pulled off to make space for the awnings, and they were still on the ground. This part is where I learned that the home-owner does really need to think through every little contingency for a contract, as I hadn't ever discussed stucco repair or gutter repair with Jay beforehand. Fortunately, Jay's a really good guy. He split the $3000 cost of stucco repair with me, and referred me to an AMAZING stucco fellow (Plastermaster), and he also sent his gutter guy out at no charge to fix the gutters. They installed brand new gutters at no additional cost. In the end, I feel like although Above It All Roofing's estimates might be higher than some others, the level of service and quality you get matched the price. Plus I felt the opposite of being nickeled and dimed to death... unforeseen events appeared that Jay either accepted into the original estimate without having to, or split the cost with me. This kind of responsible, professional behavior is absolutely worth rewarding with additional business. Plus, you really don't want to be dickering around with your roof year after year while it damages the rest of your house every rainstorm. I want it done right, and I don't want to think about it for a decade or more. Jay gave me that feeling. I stand by my very high recommendation of this company for your roofing work, and specifically Jay Gioia as an employee. He also had the perk of responding to his email, something few other contractors would do but something I consider pretty vital in today's workplace.
Description of Work: We had a seriously disintegrated low-slope roof on half of our house in terrible need of re-roofing. The other half of the roof was a high-slope shingled surface that had serious wind damage from the massive wind storms last year. We wanted to totally redo the roof, with the whitest products to reflect the terrible summer heat. We were also simultaneously installing HVAC, requiring coordination with those installers at the same time. Plus we were working with the insurance company to get reimbursed for the wind-damaged portion of the roof, requiring contractor estimates and code specs. We also elected to extend new awnings from our otherwise cube-like corners, to prevent future water intrusion, and added some dormer vents as well.

I did not use Above It All Roofing due their high price.
Description of Work: I called Above It All Roofing Inc. for and estimate and Michael Allen came to my home. I requested an estimate for repairing broken tiles and sealing any areas that may need re-sealing. Michael did not get on the roof but walked around the house and gave me an estimate of $1200 plus $20/tile. I was shocked since I had had the roof checked and replaced some broken tiles several years prior and the complete price was $400. I questioned him and he said he had a minimum price. I called one of his competitors (Weatherline Roofing and Repairs, Inc.) for another estimate. I did use Weatherline and they did a great job and their total price, including tiles, was $450. I would not recommend Above It All Roofing if you are looking for a fair price.

The Member called us last year (October 2011) and said he had a couple of broken tiles to be replaced. After setting an appointment I went out to meet him and inspect his roof. There was no need to go onto his roof and risk breaking more tiles as I was able to move my ladder around the home and get a complete view of the roof. There were many broken tiles, the felt paper was showing in some areas and most of the joints seals around the pipe and vent flashings were cracked or missing. There was a lot of work to do in order for us to leave this gentleman's roof completely uncompromised. I gave him a fair quote that included replacing all broken tiles, missing and damaged felt paper, sealing and painting all the flashings on all the roof penetrations with a warranty against any future leaks. This roof was 25 years old and appeared to be in very bad condition. I am not sure why the Member did not call the company that he had previously contracted with that replaced broken tiles and sealed his roof for $400 prior to calling us. I tell all my customers to call me if they "ever" have a problem with their roof, even if the warranty has expired. I have worked very hard to maintain the highest possible integrity of my company. We charge a fair price and give a warranty that actually means something. We will not take advantage of someone just to make a quick buck. I know that you can always get a cheaper price if you keep shopping, but it may come back to haunt you if you have a problem. It's been about a year since I quoted this job. It appears that the Member finally found a company willing to do the work for the price he wanted to pay. I truly hope his roof holds up this time and if he has a problem, this particular company that he hired will actually honor their warranty. Please remember that over 80% of the complaints the Better Business Bureau receives are from consumers who went with the cheapest bid. We only know one way to fix a roof, and that is the correct way. If you want excellent service at a fair price, then call us. If you want cheap, then I would suggest calling "the other guy".

Dave is great at returning calls and getting the job done. He fixed a leak for me last year and then put a new roof on in July. We had an issue with dust getting in to the skylights and he took care of it right away after I called. We are also getting solar cells and he has been more than willing to work with the solar company to make sure everything is done correctly.
Description of Work: Leak fixed last year and new roof in July.

I originally went out on my own and got 4-5 quotes from roofer contractors. At the last minute, I joined Angie’s List. Because of that, I was able to toss one contractor out immediately because of the poor rating. As I was poking around, I noticed Above it All Roofer with a very high rating. They received an A rating with over 120 reviews. With that, I hired them. Jay was very nice and professional. As the other contractors hounded me after giving me quotes, Jay just let the quote and the reviews speak for themselves. Right of f the bat I got a 5% discount for mentioning Angie’s List. Sounded good to me!! Jay and I haggled about the bottom line – you have to try and reduce the price, right !!? After agreeing on a price, I called Jay back a few days later to set up the start of the new roof. Originally, my date was a few weeks away, which didn’t really bother me, but somehow Jay was able to change the date to be in a couple of days. Fine. First day of demo and I got a call from Jay. That’s the last thing anyone wants to get. First thought is dollars signs. Turns out that the plywood that was quoted in my price wasn’t going to be needed and BAM another discount! YAY for my side!! In all my dealings with contractors, that has never happened! He could have easily screwed me on that one. I was very pleased that the roof was done in TWO days! Now, for the walk about. Oil drippings on the driveway along with what appeared to be tar – not a lot but some. An ashtray made out of a lemon, more tar spots on the back patio. Looking up you see that they used too long of nails so you see nails coming through the eaves - sporadically around the entire house. I must admit, my eaves had issues, a few wasp nests, spider webs, spider eggs, etc. Not pretty. Jay walked the house and took note of all my concerns. I was surprised that 2 days later a painter showed up at my door asking if he could take a look around to give Jay an estimate to fix the nails, patching and painting of my eaves. I have no idea when everything happened as I was at work, but one day someone came by to power spray my house (which removed all the oil spotting and tar as well). The next day the eaves were repaired and painted. I didn’t hear from Jay until a few days later. He never once asked for any sort of payment. He comes today. We haven’t discussed what the new price of the roof is – remember the plywood? Sometimes, stuff just happens. It all depends on how the contractor, Jay in this scenario, handles the situation. He was very calm (not sure I would be with some of the performance of my workers) and professional, always! He’s also a really nice person. I have recommended Above it All.
Description of Work: I had the entire roof reshingled. See below for blow by blow.

David from “All Above It All Roofing” was highly recommended and was one of the highest ranked roofers on Angie’s list in my area. I called for an estimate and David promptly came out the next day. He listened to my concerns and accommodated all my requirements and left samples for me to choose from. David was very attentive and available if I had any questions or concerns especially since we were simultaneously installing an air-conditioning unit. He consulted with the other contractor to coordinate the work. The crew was efficient, friendly and finished the job just in time before the rain came pouring down. They stuck to their original quote which was much lower than the other 4 estimates I had received. The results met my expectations. I would recommend All Above It All Roofing and will use their services again for my rental properties.

Very knowledgeable and courteous. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They came by to look at a leak from the patio roof and said that it was a minor separation of the seal tape from the roof and proceeded to caulk the area for free.
