Description of Work: I have two very old, large trees that I wanted to be looked at in case they needed anything. I am especially concerned about a boring insect invading and killing trees in my area. | |Some people might be put off by the up front $150 fee, but for that you get a good long time with Nick, the owner, who is extremely informative and you can ask him anything that concerns you. He is a real arborist who knows his stuff. He cares about trees and I felt totally confident that he would steer me in the right direction. | |You can get a $100 certificate on Yelp to save $50. | |Nick gave me advice on what to do about the drought, what to look for if disease strikes, and an estimate on a treatment to help against the borer insect should I become alarmed. | |He recommended that we leave well enough alone. No pruning or other treatment necessary. I think that is good, prudent advice. I am totally happy as a result, and so are my trees!

Prompt, professional, efficient, tidy, informative. I will hire them next time I need work on my trees and shrubbery.
Description of Work: Removed a dying tree and cut canopies of vines out of two fruit trees. Cut back a portion of a dense wall of hedges between our house and the neighbors.

It went smooth as can be. Nick Araya first came by and gave me a quote for the job. We were able to get me scheduled a week or so later and Nick and Oscar showed up and did a great job. They were fast and friendly. Did a great job cleaning up and had little trouble taking down the 20' tree that was very close to my house. I couldn't have asked for a better transaction.
Description of Work: I had a few trees including 1- 20' queen palm to remove from my front yard.

We were very excited to work with Nick Araya and TreeCare LA because he was both very knowledgable and personable during our initial consult (when we went over all our fruit trees and discussed new plantings in our yard). I took notes for myself during the consult because he had great information to impart; at the end of the appointment, he took photos of my notes and promised to email an estimate of the work. After two weeks of not hearing back, I called him; he was apologetic and a few days later he emailed the estimate. I responded immediately with details and possible dates to start work. Two more weeks passed without hearing back from him and I called him again (at which time he found my responses buried in his emails) and said he would get back to me. At least another two weeks passed and when I still had not heard from him, I tried calling again, but his phone was not working, so I texted him. He responded by text explaining that there was a problem with his phone which he was in the middle of having corrected. Later, I received a voicemail from him saying that he was on his way to the nursery some distance away and asked exactly what trees I wanted. This confused me immensely as we had not even spoken yet about the estimate or my responses or dates to begin, and all of a sudden I was on the spot to tell him what trees to buy before any work had even begun (and why didn't he have any of my notes with him when he decided to drive all the way to the nursery?). I called back saying I was perplexed and wanted to figure this out with him (plus, I was at work and didn't have my list with me). Many more weeks passed without any response. Our excitement about working with TreeCare LA turned into confused disappointment, and three months after we first began, I gave up on them. I sent a disheartened email explaining that since it was not me who decided not to continue with their estimate, a portion of the initial consult fee (which would have been subsumed into the total cost of the work if it were to be done by them) should be returned to me. I also asked that if they still wanted to do the work, I would be more than happy to proceed with them if we could just clear up what happened. Within a few days, I received a call from Melinda who told me that TreeCare LA had grown quickly and Nick could not keep up with all the work by himself, but now he had hired her to help him out; she said he had her call me and ask me to email him some dates again. I was thrilled and told her it made perfect sense and we could just move ahead without any further issue; I let her know that I was on my way out of town and couldn't email right away but I would very soon. Two days later I made efforts to get to a computer and I emailed several dates as well as going over the old estimate again and updating my responses (since the condition of some of the trees had changed in the intervening months). Again to my dismay, I never heard back from anyone at TreeCare LA. That was a month ago. I'm done.

I am very happy and satisfied with the work done. From the first telephone call, Nick was very responsive and friendly. He worked with my schedule. When I was late to our first meeting at my house, he was not upset, waited patiently and greeted me warmly when I got there. At the consultation, he gave me options, and told me how I could accomplish the work myself if I wanted to. Some of the things I decided to do myself, some I wanted him to do. He was able to schedule the work for a few days later. The job was completed while I was at work. When I came home I could see what was done, but otherwise the yard was completely cleaned up. He followed up by contacting me to see if i was satisfied. Time will tell if we were able to save my old and beautiful tangello tree, but I know that I gave it the best shot possible. It is obvious that Nick really loves trees.
Description of Work: The main part of the job involved care for a very old tangello tree that looked sick. They removed some dead branches, applied protective "paint" to areas of sun damage on the large branches, and gave it a deep liquid fertilization. On a different tree, they removed a steel stake that had grown into the tree. A third tree had been planted too deep. They removed the dirt from around the trunk area. In addition, I got a lot of expert advice on how to best care for my trees.

I highly recommend certified arborist Nick Araya, owner of Tree Care L.A. I found Tree Care L.A. listed on the ISA website (International Society of Arboriculture), which verified that Nick is a certified arborist. My tree is a giant eucalyptus that I'm concerned about keeping trimmed and safe. Nick thoroughly evaluated it and advised me not to prune for at least a year. He could see that it had been somewhat over-pruned, which can weaken the tree and make it vulnerable to disease and decay, which of course makes it unsafe. Trimming a tree of this size is very expensive, so my unnecessary trimmings have cost me thousands over the years. I was impressed that Nick was willing to do what's best for the tree, even though I'm sure he would have been glad to have the work. In addition to proper cutting Nick advised me on other tree health issues. The estimate he gave me for pruning the tree in the future is fair and competitive, which is especially great considering that he's a certified arborist. I look forward to calling him next year for the pruning.
Description of Work: Nick Araya (owner of Tree Care L.A.) and his skilled assistant Victor cut some dead branches of my giant eucalyptus tree and replaced a very old cable that holds together the double trunk. He gave me an estimate for a thorough pruning of the tree in the future. Both Nick and Victor are certified arborists.
