Pete called me back promptly after I left a message and we set up an appt. for an estimate. After getting the estimate, Pete followed up with a call to seal the deal. Pete arrived on time with a helper and started right in on the job. He finished ahead of schedule and did a great job.

I made an appointment 2 days in advance. I emailed pictures in advance to make sure Pita was comfortable with the job. I called that morning to confirm appointment. He said he might be late. I told him since it was vacant home and many people had to be there to open the door, for him to please be on time. He said he would. I called 30 minutes before the appointment and I said he wanted to reschedule. We were all already on the freeway. If I didn't call, he would have just not shown up. He also does not speak much English. I had a difficult time on the phone with him.

I recieved a job bid from a couple companys one was twice what I paid. When I asked Petes masonry for an estimate he showed me pictures of work they had done and asked me to drive by a job they were just completeing. I liked there work and hired them. They work very efficiently, on time and prepaired, completed the work in less than three days. Cleaning up nicely and gone leaving me with a beautiful new wall. I had asked them to pour an area of cement slab which they did for a fair price. I'm positive I will call them next time I need some cement work, or a wall.. I hope there prices dont go up!David (home owner)
Description of Work: Pete is the concrete guy to call. I needed a 50 foot block wall and a small amount of slab poured.the job was completed in two and a half days.

t was a lucky chance that I chose Peter from the many others on the list. I think I was drawn by the fact that he seemed to be a small and perhaps more personable company. His estimate for the scope of work was very competitive. His workers were diligent, respectful, quiet and always showed. After the work was completed, they cleaned up the area. I was not disappointed. The quality of work for the price was more than I expected and quite surprising. Peter accepted installment payments (beginning, midway and at end). He always showed for appointments and called me often to give updates. I plan to use Peter for future work (block wall to replace a wood fence).
Description of Work: 1. Put cut stone tiles to cover the facade of a concrete foundation 2. Installed decorative iron registers to replace old ones along a concrete foundation 3. Put stone tiles on concrete steps of a front entryway and widened bottom steps 4. Put stucco to cover a stone facade of a chimney 5. Put a concrete patio in backyard (stamped and colored) 6. Installed a "trap door" access to an entryway to the underflooring of house 7. Removed and hauled off a concrete walkway from curb to front door 8. Laid down concrete pavers from curb to front door

Did not feel this contractor was ethical. Retracted job offer.
Description of Work: This contractor gave a $1000 bid for a one-day job to repair a sidewalk that was torn up by a fallen tree. He was my second choice, and I offered this job to another contractor. The first choice never showed for the job, so I called this contractor again and offered him the job at his $1000 bid. He stated he would do the job for $1100, because he would need to use rebar, which was part of the original bid. I told him I didn't want him to do the job, because he was changing his bid. He later called back and offered to do the job at $1000.

He did a good job. He showed up when he said he would and did what he said he would. He stepped up to my significant challenge. He did a great job of matching the pattern, color and style of concrete.
Description of Work: He tore out part of an old sidewalk and replace it matching a very old concrete and concrete pattern way different than today. He also patched a fairly large set up stairs with the same old concrete. He re-laid several bricks where the mortar had let go.

Received estimates from 2 companies for the pouring of 2 pads (total of about 200 sq. ft) and the constructin of a concrete block "sitwall" about 16" high and about 25' long. Both estimates were for about the same amount. Peter started work the next day and was finished in 3 days. Original work was for $3,200. Because of the quality of the work, I contracted with Peter to fix some problems with existing concrete pads, which he did for an additional $500. I am very satisfied with the finished product.
Description of Work: pouring of 2 new ground level concrete pads (total of about 200 sq. ft), stamped along edges; construction of a 16" high by 25' long concrete block "sitwall" - concrete block, stucco, double bullnose cap; ground level concrete repair in 2 areas of back yard

The guys were very nice at first and seemed to know what they were doing. However, as soon as we began to question the way they were doing things, they began to speak very disrespectfully to us. We questioned the quality of supplies that they used and the method that they used. They became more and more rude. By the end, we simply wanted them off of our property. We called them to come back twice because of mistakes that they made and they did come back and attempt to fix the problem but had attitudes with us for sure. Now, a year later, there are so many cracks in the concrete, it is ridiculous! It appears that our questions while they were completing the job were not dumb questions because the quality of work was VERY poor. I would guess that they were rude because we were women questioning them...they seemed to be disrespectful in that way. Perhaps if the homeowner is a male, making them not cut corners would be easier. While they appeared nice at first, I would DEFINITELY not recommend them! I do not even want to call them to come to fix the poor job that they performed! If anyone wants pictures to prove the bad job that they did, let me know. I wish they were stand-up guys because they should have to come back and fix the MANY problems...that would be the right thing to do. AND, we spent A LOT of money! :(

I contacted Pete via phone, he came out very quickly for an estimate. His estimate was the lowest of the three i got. Other where large contractors, who informed me that there would be a $4000 price just to get the out the door. I got two quotes for both the back and the front: Back Yard Estimate: $2900 Front-Side Estimate: $650 Once I selected Pete, he came back for a detailed job walk. I provided him very detailed CAD sketch, with dimensions of the work I wanted done. I'm very glad I did. At this time he provided the contract with his price. The back yard increase slightly, because I asked for some changes (adding an underground gas pipe, that I would provided, for a future fire pipe on the patio). His increase reflected in the labor and the cost of procuring some concrete square blocks which were installed at each end of the pipe to allow access to the pipe. At this point I gave Pete at his request $1500 for materials and he arranged to start work on a Thursday the same week. He showed up on time, with a crew of about 5 or 6 guys. By the time I got home early from work to check on the progress they where nearly done with the back yard patio. At Pete's request I him an additional $600 for the remaining materials cost. The next day, the finished with the back yard patio and the front-side driveway/parking spot. I paid him the balance of what was owed. INegatives: Pete's English is poor, so communication in person and over the phone can be tough. He did respond to email, which was nice. I was happy I had the drawings which made conveying my point much easier. The selection of pavers was a little limited, but I'm happy with what I ended up with. They clean up at the end of each day, but I did find some small things like cigarette butts and the like left behind. I did not run into any problems, but I should have been better with the documentation, such as contracts because that was left slightly open. I consider the negatives previously mentioned very small. I'm very happy with Pete's Concrete work. They knocked out the job unbelievably quick, (two actual days of work, less than a week between getting the estimate and job completion!) the workman ship was excellent. I've already recommended him to other people and I would absolutely use him again. One of the biggest things for me was his disposal of the excavated dirt, which allowed me to not have to get a dumpster if I was going to do this on my own. He is hard working, a nice guy, and an accurate estimator. Back Yard Final: $3050 Front-Side Yard Final: $650
Description of Work: Back-side yard Paver Patio Installation Previously dirt Approx 260 sq ft Dirt excavated Trench dug and 10ft gas pipe (supplied by me, owner) laid in trench. Overall it went fairly well, however, there were a few problems that still have not been rectified. (Although we paid Pita in full.) The guys showed up very early every morning and worked hard for over a week. Most of the guys were kind and respectful and appeared quite honest. It was a bit difficult to communicate with Pita due to a language barrier but all of the other guys helped out with this just fine. The quality of work was good but a few simple decisions were made without asking us and we believe that the owner should be a part of every decision, big or small. When we had to ask them to fix the few little things, they seemed a bit "put out." That happened a few times which made us feel uncomfortable. We asked Pita to come back after he was finished because the driveway had a puddles due to improper draining in two spots. He spent all day attempting to fix it. After a few days his fix completely cracked so we asked him back. He commented that we "complain a lot." We were concerned about this comment because our "complaints" were directly related to real issues. At this point, he stated that he will come back again the following week to attempt to fix it again. He blamed the improper drainage on the mistakes of his guys. We will see if he makes it right. If he does, I feel strongly that he does quality work and will recommend him to many others. If not, I will post pictures of the improper work and warn others. I do believe he will make it right because he and his family seem like stand up guys who really are capable of quality work.
Description of Work: Demo front yard, including old driveway and grass. Poured new circular driveway (approx. 2500sq ft.). Repaired and replaced old irrigation system. Layed new sod. Moved some rocks to new location in yard.
I called in for 5 quotes on this large job and Peter and Sione Tukutau came in about 8000 dollars cheaper than the next lower bid and in most cases about half the price of other bids. I took a little risk in that Peter confessed he had not previously finished concrete in the way I desired, but he immediately came back the next day with literature showing his research. We agreed that the technique would be practiced on a small area reserved for my trash cans. In the end it all worked out very well. Peter and Sione arrived around 8am every day. About the right time to start work and not bother the neighbors too much. A crew of about 5 brother and cousins and one other team member worked tirelessly. No job seemed to be a problem. Even though their specialty is concrete, various digging, grading, basic tree trimming, and simple carpentry jobs were simply done when required. The only subcontractor that was brought in was a heavy demolition crew for breaking up and hauling the existing concrete. In a few cases I brought in my regular electrician and plasterer. The worked well together with these groups. Almost all the work was done the old fashioned way with shovel and axes. This kept down the noise and dust for my neighbors and me. Two huge containers of trees and debris were hauled off in a matter of three days. I did all the design of the job using google sketch-up software and would meet with Peter every morning or send him powerpoint slides every night via e-mail. It was easy to communicate my ideas to him and where my intuition ran out he would generally have good ideas on what to do. After every day of demolition, the whole area was neatly cleaned and raked. Even if the next day had more destruction in store. It was a nice touch to keep the work site organized. Peter did not skimp on materials and installed a massive drain box and heavy duty sump pump for the drainage system. After all the destruction the concrete forms were laid out with good attention to detail. After about 10 working days the concrete trucks came. Peter brought in additional family members for this critical stage of the job. All three trucks were poured in one day and all the finishing substance was sprayed on. The next day the finishing paste was scrubbed off the and the results were excellent. I had braced myself for a very stressful two weeks and altogether things went quite well. I suppose that by spending twice as much I could have had a guy with a clipboard overseeing things a little more, but all in all my experience is that no matter how skilled the contractor, you always end up spending a lot of time conveying your requirements. I highly recommend the Tukutau brothers for concrete work. Friendly, skilled, punctual, versatile, hard working, honest, polite, and very very reasonably priced. They charged exactly what their estimate said. I paid in four installments during the job.
Description of Work: Overview: Complete demolition of about 4000 square feet of yard and pouring of concrete walks, patios, and driveway. Details: Tearing out of several hedges and removal of 3-4 ficus trees including digging out the stumps. Trimming of about 15 tall ficus trees. (Note, this is not their specialty and I would not recommend them for trimming trees other than the hardiest like ficus). Demolition of an old 1000 square foot deck. As instructed the many good redwood boards were reclaimed and neatly stacked beside my house. Demolition of a wooden pergola (awning). Demolition of about 1900 square feet of concrete driveway, walks, and patio. Hauling away of two huge containers of yard debris and multiple truckloads of concrete rubble. Digging of trenches to installation of root barriers. Regrading of most of the lot for better drainage. Installation of 2'X2'X2' drain box, network of underground drain pipes, sump pump with a long pipe to the curb. Laying forms for about 2300 square feet of concrete for a complex pattern of walks, patios, and a driveway. Installation of a combination of rebar and mesh. Laying of various drainage and irrigation pipes and pipe chases. Pouring of 2300 square feet of tinted concrete (about 3 truck loads). Finish treatment with acid for a particular texture by removing the very top layer of cement and exposing the underlying sand and aggregate for a look which matches the surrounding 80 year old sidewalks very well. A few days after the concrete was hard they came back with hand saws and cut a complex pattern of cuts/breaks into the concrete.

Installed a long beautiful planter box in front of our home with tan cinder blocks and bullnose red bricks. Replaced our old cracked driveway with a very nice concrete driveway. The three man crew arrived on Friday at 8 a.m. to install a new planter. The work entailed digging up roots from large plants that had partially pushed sections of the planter wall down, installing new tan cinder blocks and red bullnose bricks. Monday, they arrived at 7:30 am. with a 6 man crew to break up the driveway. They found a lot of big tree roots while breaking up the old driveway which explained why it had lifted up in a couple of sections. The crew arrived Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m., the concrete was poured at 7:30 a.m. and the crew finished at 11 a.m. Peter worked and supervised the entire job from beginning to end. He made sure additional soil was added to the new planter box, plus he added a pipe for better drainage. Peter and his crew were very polite and they cleaned up the work site everyday.
Description of Work: Installed 37 foot long planter box in front of house and replaced old driveway.
