I called Pete on Monday, Sept. 12th. He came out on Tuesday the 13th and gave me the quote of $800.00. He said that he could start the next day, and that he wanted half of the amount at the beginning and the balance on the completion of the work. He said that it would take two days. He was here on time Wednesday morning, and started work right away. The section was completed on time Thursday. He was doing such a great job, that I talked to him about raising the wall higher. He said that he could raise the back wall up two rows and the side wall up one row, so it would be straight all the way around. He gave me the quote of $4100.00 for supplies and labor. it included rebar as the wall never had it when it was built in 1952. He said that he could keep going and it would be completed on Saturday. On friday he said that he had another job, and would it be okay if he completed the job on Monday. I told him that was fine with me. Saturday he called me and said that he would continue working on my job, after he got his crew working on the new job. We reached an agreement and he continued working on my job on saturday and it was completed today, Sept. 19th. I have two big dogs. Pete always made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of the work day. Without being asked, he always made sure all holes in the wall were blocked so no critters, or dogs would be to interested. I know who I will call for any future job.
Description of Work: A Pete's Concrete & Masonry repaired a section of the block wall that is around my back yard.

We contracted "A Pete's Concrete" to terrace our backyard. We asked them to build three retaining walls as specified in plans designed by an architect and approved by our Home Owner's Association. The area is approximately 12 by 16 feet with a four-foot drop. The terraces were designed to step down the hill in even measures and give us flat areas for seating, planters and a raised garden bed. Pita of "A Pete's" came to the house on a Friday to give us an estimate. He showed us photos of previous jobs and recommended block walls over concrete and assured us that they would be plastered smooth after construction. After looking at our drawings, he suggested that he build three terraces instead of two. His was a practical solution that avoided the cost of earth removal. Pita estimated that the job would take three days, and we agreed on a price. The written estimate came in later at $3000 -- $100 higher than we had agreed. Pita and his brother arrived and the job went faster than he thought. They returned the next day with his son and were ready to leave in the afternoon of the second day. They left before I had a chance to review the job. I noticed when I got home that the lower wall is not exactly parallel with the deck line. It is 2-3 degrees off center. I can live with this (and the comments from the neighbors) because the problem is not noticeable unless you stand between the deck and the retaining wall below. More critically, the blocks on the top terrace were not laid all the way to the house. See the gap beneath the trash pile in the attached image. Perhaps I did not communicate that I wanted the wall to be in line with the deck and that I did not want the wall to reach all the way to the house. I think this unlikely as we provided architectural drawings and agreed to changes that Pita suggested before work began. The men were gone before I had a chance to review the job. A misunderstanding about PayPal also caused bad feelings. I sent the first half of the payment by PayPal. He insisted that he had not received the money though PayPal customer service insisted otherwise. A Pete's may have expanded his payment options since, but I cannot recommend paying him with anything but cash. The job was not finished as we wished. We asked that the walls be plastered to cover the blocks, and plastering was specified explicitly in the quote. The site was messy after the crew left. They piled extra blocks and trash against the house, and my 6-year-old daughter found cigarette butts, food wrappers, and bottles around the yard. We have since installed wooden planters over the unplastered blocks, and the site is looking much better than it did before. The construction of the walls appears to be of high quality though they were not plastered as promised. To summarize, we paid a premium price for unfinished work.
Description of Work: Retaining walls to contain three small terraces. tl;dr: We paid a premium price for incomplete work.

Pete did a superb job! He figured out all the measurements, showed up on time, and completed the work quickly. He also noticed a brick that had come loose and fixed it without even asking me. I would highly recommend him. Terrific!

Pita was wonderful. He and his crew did a beautiful job. They removed a section of the concrete patio that had been broken by tree roots. They removed a very large tree stump and its roots. The tree had grown into a chain link fence so the task was complicated. They then poured a new section of concrete for the patio area. Pita came right away when I first called to look at the project and to give me an estimate. He was always punctual and he completed each phase of the work in the stated time frame. He called a week later to ask if we were satisfied. I would definitely use his services again.

We had a dangerous (and very common) situation with a sidewalk that had been pushed up by nearby tree roots. Pita came out to take a look and we agreed that to do the job correctly it would require replacing not one but two sections of slab -- and even then I could see that lining up the new slab would be a little tricky given what the tree roots had done. But Pita did an excellent job with that. Also, when digging up the old sidewalk, Pita and his worker discovered that the gas and water pipes were far closer to the surface than they should be. If he had not been careful it would have been very easy to damage the pipes and create a small crisis. But Pita spotted the pipes right away and carefully worked around them as he chopped the roots to ensure a flat bed for the new sidewalk. Overall he did a great, very professional job and we are very pleased with the work.

Pita showed up on time and did a decent job. He was done in half a day and called later to see if everything was done to our satisfaction. There was some finish work left off the small wall and he has said he will come back and do that later this week. Decent job at a decent price. I would recommend Pita for other jobs.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Pete was quick to respond to my initial request for an estimate. He came out and gave me a price that was at the low end of what I was expecting to pay. I hired him and he told me that he could start the work as soon as he finished another job which would be a couple of days. He initially told me that he would clear the area on Thursday and pour the concrete after the weekend. That was acceptable to me. He showed up right on time and told me that he had some extra people and would be able to complete the job the same day. Those in his crew were polite and hard workers. It was only about 6 hours for them to get the entire area cleared and concrete poured. It was about another hour that they had to wait until it was dry enough to run a broom across it to make it non-slip. When they were finished, they taped off the area to prevent anyone from walking or driving across it. Pete followed up the next day with a phone call asking what I thought of his service, and came by a couple of days later to hose down the area. I would definitely use his services again. My neighbors have approached me telling me how wonderful the area looks. Good job! Thanks!
Description of Work: They removed plants, grass, and soil from side of house, and demolished a block wall. Filled area with 4" thick concrete widening the driveway and extending a pathway to back of house.

Pete did a fine job. His goal is to make the customer to happy. Pete is responsive to requests and did, and still does, what it takes to make me happy with his work. He called when he was running late and returned my calls and texts within a reasonable time. All of the A Pete's Concrete personnel were polite and friendly. My experience with A Pete's Concrete was very good.
Description of Work: Pete removed an existing concrete patio and replaced it with a new concrete slab. It was a fairly large job with certain difficulties, primarily a stairway that meant the work had to be done by hand. There is not access for a bobcat or some other type of machinery. Also, the area around the patio has obstacles that makes it hard for the workers to do the smoothing process from outside the patio surface.

Description of Work: NO SHOW, after confirming his appointment and making me wait around for him. He decides to call me after he is already 10 minutes late... Just to tell me he is waiting for something or someone . My response was "your are already 10 minutes late and now you decide to call me and reschedule the appointment so I can wait around again. I called A Petes Concrete in April 2015 to bid on my job to replace my driveway and sidewalk. I was told that they were not able to take on the job. A few days later, I received a call from a contractor who got my number from A Petes. I hired that contractor. That contractor, who goes by the name Viliami "Bill" Mangisi with Aloha Affordable Development, is a con artist. The project took 4 months when it should have taken 2 weeks, and the cost was $10,325 instead of our contracted price of $6,500. He literally stole cash payments, lied to my face, abandoned his sub-contractors, abandoned the entire project, and botched whatever work they tried to complete. I eventually fired Mangisi and hired new contractors to complete the failed project. Mangisi's partner on this project, Joe, actually called me on multiple occasions to beg for forgiveness and even offered to finish my project for free, because he knew Mangisi had robbed me. Mangisi hid my payments from this partner, who was never paid for his efforts. I did not accept the free work because I no longer wanted to be in business with this group. I tried to enlist A Petes to resolve the situation but they refused to get involved. They did provide Mangisi's address, however I already had that information. I cannot comment on the actual work of A Pete's Concrete but I can say that they shared my information without consent, referred me to a con artist, and were not interested in making things right when I brought the situation to their attention. I called A Petes and got Viliami Mangisi. Therefore, I consider this an A Pete's issue.
Description of Work: I called A Pete's to quote my driveway/sidewalk replacement project. I received a call days later from Viliami Mangisi that got my number from A Pete's. Read below for full description of the con artist Viliami Mangisi.

He also came by after the project was done to check on the work and took it upon himself to make some touchups. He's our go-to guy for anything outdoors...concrete, wood, drainage, etc.

Overall it went great and was very easy and pleasant working with A Pete's/Pita! We didn't really know what kind of contractor to call for the concrete work once we ripped out the gazebo - a handyman, a general contractor, etc. But when I found A Pete's Concrete & Masonry on Angie's List, I thought it would be perfect to have a concrete specialist doing this work to ensure it was done right. Based on the previous reviews, I emailed Pita a few photos of the work that needed to be done first and he called me the next morning to set up an appointment to see the work in person. When we met, he was very friendly and I liked him right away. He seemed like a pro, completely understood what we needed done, and was even up for the task of an extra little thing we needed done - bolting our bbq grill into the patio and cutting out an area for the natural gas piping to properly attach to the grill. We accepted his quote and he was able to schedule to do the work the very next day. I was not able to be home when Pita was doing the work, but he was able to let himself into the yard and do what we agreed. The work was done perfectly and cleanly, I couldn't have asked for more. It actually rained lightly the night he poured the concrete, and he was nice enough to call the next morning to see what we thought of everything and to calm my fears about whether the concrete was affected by the rain. Now a few weeks later, everything still looks great and is solid as a rock. Again, it was great working with Pita and I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again whenever we decide to do additional repairs on the brickwork and concrete in front of our home.
Description of Work: After we ripped out wooden gazebo from our patio, there was an empty square outline in the patio (~12'x12') from where we removed the wood beams from the ground. Pita filled this with concrete to our specifications, bolted down/repaired a built-in bbq grill in the patio, and repaired/reinstalled a few broken bricks around our front steps and flower beds.

This job started out as a simple replacement of a brick walkway and blossomed out to much more work including installing several retaining walls and adding a cement staircase. Pita worked with us to provide the requested work. He has an excellent sense of how to lay out a new design making suggestions on what would work the best in the area. This was a major project taking 7 days to complete. The crew worked hard each day they were here. One criticism is that they did not pick up their personal drink items at the end of each day. I needed to go over the area and throw away things so that the dogs would not get into them. On the day of the cement pour they ran out of cement and had to come back another day to finish. There was a water leak under one part of the new cement and when I showed it to them they cut out a section to make the repair and replace the cement. Overall we are very happy with the quality of the work and the new look of the property.

When pita came I let him know we would have to organize with FRED FROM SQUARE CUT FENCING. Because Fred had installed a gate and the post never remained straight. So the plan was to have Fred come straighten the post and then Pita to pour the concrete to hold the post in place. Fred couldn't get the post to stand straight after pulling it out and putting it back in straight a bunch of times. It so happened it rained the day Fred was supposed to come and he called and said he wasn't coming. Pita, on the other hand hand had already started and didn't want to wait for Fred. He told me he could pull out the post reset it straight and pour the concrete. HE DID IT !!!!! Pita did his job of pouring the concrete and Fred's job better than Fred. He was always on time and communicative and did EXACTLY as he said. His crew are all nice guys, polite and left the area they worked in super clean

I was hesitant to write this in the first place but I thought I better in case there are others who want some common sense, decency, and carefulness form service people. The work was OK but they were not careful with my property. They left items that they said they will haul away (he came and took them after I told him about it), they damaged the sides and ceiling of the stucco arch on the driveway, and left their own trash such as empty drink cups and half finished fast food hamburgers!

As previous reviews stated it was a bit hard to understand Pita on the phone when I first called him for quote. However, when we meet in person there was no issue. I asked for a quote on some of the work for my backyard. At the time I did not have an exact idea of what I was going to do. I appreciated the fact that he did not call to ask if I was interested in his services. I hate the pushy sales tactics. After some more planning and getting more quotes, I called Pita back for an updated quote. He gave a very good price for the work. I accepted and he was able to begin the work the next week. I added some things to the list while they were working and he gave a good price for them as well. He had no problems changing the work even though they were last minute additions. I had ordered 5 cubic yards of stone and .75 cubic yard of play sand to use in the remodeled backyard. Pita had his guys move that in to the backyard. They spread the stones over the area I wanted and also dug in a 5' x 5' sandbox, that I built and filled it with the sand. There were a few other things that I needed done and Pita offered his guys to help out with it. I expected them to take 2 weeks, but they were able to finish the job in a little over a week. My advice is to make sure you have a design in mind and ensure it is properly communicated with them. Also, don't be put off by the initial phone conversation and meet with Pita to give them a fair shake. I had a very good experience working with them and would use them again for additional work

Pita was very responsive from my initial call and throughout the entire project. He and his crew were punctual, polite, professional and performed the work accurately and efficiently. I would hire him again and recommend his services to those seeking any concrete/masonry work.
